When I Survey The Wondrous Cross).

The song Climb Every Mountain is sung at the close of the first act of The Sound of Music by Mother Abbess. It is an inspirational piece used in many situations to encourage people to take every step in pursuing their dreams. The musical is based on the 1949 memoir of Maria von Trapp and many of the songs have become standards. Jenny Lynn Stewart, known as a Heart-Stirring Songstress, toured the U.S. as Mother Abbess opposite stars as Marie Osmond, John Davidson and Patrick Cassidy. The past couple years has brought words like pivot and reinvention more into the everyday language to most people around the world. However those words are already very familiar to a working artist. As a former opera singer, Jenny's life has been filled with change and pivots. She has used preparation techniques, the discipline of showing up and attitudes of reinvention to keep working in a very competitive field. We cover some of those principles that apply across the board to most every area of life and business: Preparation, Mindset and Change. Composer from 'Hannibal' Film Releases ‘The Mass': Patrick Cassidy and Glorious Pathos

Patrick Cassidy joins us on the Classical Post podcast today. You will certainly know his music from the Ridley Scott film, Hannibal, starring Anthony Hopkins. Patrick wrote the famous aria, "Vide cor Meum", that was written as a “mini” opera for this film. The aria has been presented at both the Oscars and Emmy Awards ceremonies, and it has appeared in multiple top 10 lists and essential collections throughout the world including Warner Classics album, 40 Most Beautiful Arias. Patrick's newest work The Mass, recorded with the London Symphony Orchestra and London Voices, was released in November 2019. Now in 2022, he's released the same work, but this time for choir and organ. Keep listening to hear where this composer finds inspiration to create some of the most glorious music. I know when I listened to his Mass, it has such a pathos and controlled grandeur to it, giving me goosebumps! Also, stick around to hear how he views his accomplishments. He cites the truism, which I know I've tried to pursue in my own life, and that is: “Do what you love and you will never work another day in your life.” — Classical Post explores the intersection of classical music, style, and wellness, diving into meaningful conversations with leading artists in the world today. Based in New York City, Classical Post is a touchpoint for tastemakers. Visit our website for exclusive editorial and subscribe to our monthly newsletter to be notified of new content. Edith's guest this week is fast establishing a reputation as a filmmaker of wit, originality and imaginative flair. In his short career as a writer / director, John Michael McDonagh has brought us 3 features, all of which have been characterised by taut narrative, black comedy and whip-crack dialogue. First up was The Guard, starring Brendan Gleeson and Don Cheadle, which is officially the most financially successful Irish independent movie of all time. Then came Calvary, a darkly humorous drama about a priest tormented by his community. Now he’s crossed the Atlantic with War On Everyone, another twisted comedy in which Alexander Skarsgård and Michael Peña play a pair of tearaway New Mexico cops. John’s heartfelt passion for music is reflected in the wide variety of artists he’s used in his work. During the course of our conversation, you’ll hear tunes from The Clash, The Fun Loving Criminals, REM, M.O.P and John Denver, among many, many others. We’ll also discuss his collaborations on score with Calexico, Patrick Cassidy and Lorne Balfe.

Let's Talk With Heather Dubrow

The Partridge Family's David Cassidy joins Heather today to talk about growing up in a musical family, becoming a full-time music sensation, and his upcoming Christmas album.

Covering a list of issues far too long to list off here, the epilogue is where we examine where our story goes next. WB Yeats, all the usual martyrs and retrospective ingredients make this a must listen. Ideally it should explain why I hold the views I do, because of the journey Irish history went on and the contradictions such a journey provides for the current narrative, which states that 1916 was the birth of independent Ireland as we know it today. In our final episode (and also our longest!) we examine the complex series of events which led Ireland to exterminate its Irish Parliamentary Party in the 1918 General Election, to replace it with the Sinn Fein Party - the political arm of the 1916 Rising, and the vehicle through which revolutionary violence would dominate Ireland for the next few decades. It is a winding listen, tying together a number of issues as well as posing a series of controversial, challenging questions to you guys, so I hope you all enjoy it, and let me know what you think! In this episode we bid farewell to our protagonists, many of whom we've followed from their early days. The British act of executing the 15 rebels, who varied from leaders to random captains, would ingrain a sense of injustice in the Irish people at the whole proceedings, and would also fulfill the prophecy of men like Pearse, who had believed in the power and necessity of sacrifice to awaken Ireland. Within this episode we'll also see the Irish MPs in Westminster like John Redmond, John Dillon and even Edward Carson weigh in on the debate, as how to best proceed and what not to do is debated, and the British administration appear helpless to penetrate the control of Sir John Maxwell, the military governor they had appointed to rule Ireland under a system of martial law. The results would be profound. MUSIC: 'Poblacht na hEireann' by Patrick Cassidy from the album '1916'. I DO NOT OWN THE RIGHTS TO THIS SONG. The world was a strange place in 1916. In this episode, we'll do some more contextualising (don't sigh at me like that) by examining an unlikely mirror image of Patrick Pearse in the thoroughly nationalist France of 1914. Additionally, we'll examine in closer detail the beliefs of the rebels on their deathbeds, and what they expected to come after their sacrifice. We also take a look at how the reporting of events during the war changed after the rising, something which adds to the idea that the rising was an avenue of the First World War which went on to have such dramatic consequences for Ireland and the wider world. Others saw the surrender as merely the beginning of their plan to awaken Ireland from its slumber and continue on the fight as a whole. In ep 12 we continue our coverage of the rising's military events, as the city of Dublin and the island of Ireland take our attentions. The 'price of defiance' was paid not just by the rebels, but by average civilians such as those living in North King Street during the rising, or by the relatives of the Kent family in Cork, or by average citizens all across Ireland, in Dublin or elsewhere. The price was high, but to the rebel leadership their finest hour was dawning. MUSIC: '1916 Theme' by Patrick Cassidy from the album '1916'. I DO NOT OWN THE RIGHTS TO THIS SONG. We also tell you the story of Francis Sheehy-Skeffington (whose name is really hard to say at times). Between these anecdotes, the beginning of shelling of the rebel positions by a thoroughly brutalised British response and the spreading of fires, a strong figure was needed on the British side to wrap the whole thing up, and delicately deal with what had just occurred.
