The release of Wicked: For Good has seen the return to the big screen of the stereotypical image we have of witches. They have green skin, a conical hat, a cauldron, and they fly on a broomstick. But where did that depiction come from?Laura Kounine is an Associate Professor of Early Modern History at the University of Sussex and joined Sean to discuss.

A Little Greek, A Little Sci-Fi 2025 kicked off my goal of reading the great books of Western Civilization. So in typical fashion I read a little Greek, a little sci-fi, and a smattering of everything else. Indiepub still factored into the list with some hits and misses, just like the tradpubs. As always, the goal we should all have isn’t quantity it’s quality. But quality doesn’t just mean classic great books, it means books you enjoy and changes you and allows you to experience escapism and learn more about God’s world as He is the ultimate storyteller. This is a Grave Talks CLASSIC EPISODE! For more than two hundred years, the Bell Witch legend has occupied a singular place in American folklore—an account so disturbing that it continues to unsettle even seasoned paranormal researchers. At the heart of the story lies Bell Witch Cave, a site many believe remains one of the most actively haunted locations in the country. In this classic episode of The Grave Talks, we begin part one of an in-depth conversation with Candy Wooten, Director of Operations at the Bell Witch Cave. Together, we explore the long history of the property, the origins of the Bell Witch legend, and why the stories surrounding the site have endured for generations. From unexplained sounds echoing through the cave to reports of apparitions and unsettling encounters, Candy shares what visitors, investigators, and staff have experienced firsthand. We also discuss how the line between folklore and lived experience continues to blur—and why the Bell Witch remains a uniquely American haunting. Let's Chat!!Boo, Bitches! This episode was recorded on vacation, which means all rules were suspended.I was surrounded by friends who are—tragically—muggles, and instead of relaxing like a normal person, I did the only reasonable thing: handed them a microphone and started asking questions about witchcraft, magick, superstition, and all the things they definitely don't believe in… except when they do.What followed was a hilarious, honest, and occasionally unhinged conversation full of accidental witch behavior, strong opinions about crystals and tarot, and several moments where people realized they might already be doing low-key magick without realizing it.No one was cursed.Several people were exposed.Science was not consulted - although there were scientists involved!Grab a drink (or pedialite if necessary) and enjoy A Witch, Some Muggles, and a Microphone—a vacation experiment that absolutely delivered. For our Season 16 finale, we saved the darkest artifact of them all.The Conjure Chest is said to contain ritual tools, curses, and spiritual attachments so powerful that even opening it may invite something into your life you can't get rid of. Those who've come into contact with the chest report illness, nightmares, sudden misfortune, and a lingering sense of being watched. Was it used in conjure magic and ritual practices? Is it a misunderstood spiritual object?Or is the fear surrounding it exactly what gives it power? In this finale, we examine the origins, the alleged victims, the skeptical explanations, and the belief-based theories behind one of the most controversial haunted objects ever discussed on Is This Real? This season explored cursed and haunted artifacts from around the world — and it all ends here.

If ever, oh ever a witch there was, then it was certainly not Margaret Hamilton, despite her image having gone down in history as perhaps the most recognisable and imitated vision of a witch in history... Her performance as The Wicked Witch Of The West in The Wizard Of Oz occupied just 12 minutes of the film's running time. But, if you thought that Dorothy Gale had a tough time escaping the clutches of the Wicked Witch Of The West, then be assured that Margaret Hamilton's task became all but impossible... Remembering Ana Walsh 4/12/1983-1/1/2023In this episode, we revisit the disappearance and murder of Ana Walshe, the 39‑year‑old mother of three who vanished from her home in Cohasset, Massachusetts on New Year's Day 2023. Her case captured national attention and became one of the most closely watched true crime investigations in New England.Cohasset -- a quiet coastal town south of Boston and the filming location for Thoroughbreds (2017), The Finest Hours (2016), and The Witches of Eastwick (1987) -- was shaken when Ana was reported missing. I first covered her story in February 2023 (Episode 39), shortly after her husband, Brian Walshe, was arrested and his long history of fraud and deception began to surface. When a mother disappears, leaving behind three young children, the fear is immediate. Investigators quickly painted a grim picture, and as the likelihood of finding Ana alive faded, I began researching "no body" cases in New England. These cases are rare but not unprecedented. Massachusetts has secured convictions in the murders of Robin Benedict (1983) and Katherine Leonard Romano (1998). And the landmark Helle Crafts case in Connecticut (1986) set a national precedent for prosecuting murder cases where no body has been recovered.Ana was last seen in the early hours of January 1, 2023. The Walshes had hosted a friend, Gem Mutlu, for New Year's Eve. Gem later testified about his close relationship with the family and his affection for the children. He first met Brian through the Boston Breakthrough Academy, a leadership and personal‑development program focused on emotional intelligence, communication, and personal responsibility. Though the organization appears inactive today, its curriculum emphasized transformational growth and “vision‑driven leadership.” Gem had known the family since 2020, and Ana even served as director of operations for his team until 2022, when she accepted what she called her “dream job” in Washington, D.C.Ana was reported missing on January 4, 2023 -- not by her husband, but by her employer, Tishman Speyer, after she failed to show up for work after the holiday. Her husband attempted to stage a cover story by telling friends she had rushed to D.C. for a work emergency. While there had been issues in the past with a property, nothing justified an urgent holiday departure. Ana's professional rise was remarkable. After immigrating from Serbia in 2005, she worked seasonal hospitality jobs at The Inn at Little Washington in Virginia -- first as a housekeeper, then as a server. Through determination and talent, she built a career in luxury real estate and corporate operations, ultimately landing a leadership role in Washington, D.C. This episode examines the evidence presented in the Brian Walshe murder trial, the timeline of Ana's disappearance, and the pursuit of justice for a woman whose life was defined by resilience, ambition, and love for her children.More at crimeofthetruestkind.com/justice-for-ana-walsheOnline: CrimeoftheTruestKind.comCreated, written, hosted by Anngelle Wood#Massachusetts #massachusettstruecrime #NewEngland #TrueCrime #Advocacy #Podcast #Unsolved #Missing Hosted on Acast. Today, I'm joined by Kim and we explore the meeting point between breathwork and magick, and how simple, rhythmic practices can quietly transform the way we move through an increasingly noisy world. This is a conversation about pausing, trusting embodied knowing, questioning inherited structures, and rediscovering magick as something we remember how to live.In this episode, we explore:1. When breathwork meets magickKim shares how learning breathwork as a professional modality has blurred the boundaries between her pagan identity and her working life. What emerges is a recognition that breath, meditation, ritual, and spellwork all share the same root: intentional attention. 2. The sacred pause as a site of transformationBreath is framed as a liminal practice. Inhale, pause, exhale. We discuss the parallel between breathing and walking a labyrinth, where the pause at the centre becomes the place where integration and change occur. This pause, mirrored in seasons, lunar cycles, and ritual, is named as the place where magick quietly works.3. Rhythm over stillnessWe talk about the reality that stillness isn't always a safe space or even accessible for everyone. Breathwork, meditation, and ritual can be deeply powerful, but also confronting or overwhelming for those with trauma or sensory sensitivity.Walking, knitting, colouring, stitching, and repetitive handwork are offered as equally valid magickal practices. Rhythm, rather than silence, becomes the doorway. 4. Magick as relationship, not performanceWe reflect on how our magick has changed over time. Early practices often focused on structure, tools, and ritual. With experience, those patterns become embodied, held internally rather than performed externally.Magick is compared to cooking: first learned through recipes and rules, later practised through intuition, memory, and trust. 5. Questioning dogma, even in magickal spacesDiscernment runs through this episode. From directions and elemental associations to teachers, lineages, and Instagram wisdom, We explore the importance of questioning where teachings come from and whether they truly align with our values. We explore how easy it is to step out of religious dogma only to find yourself inside a shinier version of the same structure. 6. Land, lineage, and lived experienceI share stories of growing up in Cornwall, where tides, mist, weather, and seasonal flux shaped my understanding of the elements long before formal training. Witches, artists, herbs, and myth were woven into everyday life, not separated from it. Could Gods, goddesses, and archetypes be reframed as emergent from the landscape rather than imposed upon it?7. Community, ritual, and the loss of shared touchstonesThe conversation turns to the decline of communal ritual spaces and the tension between online and in-person gatherings. While digital spaces offer accessibility and safety, something essential is still held in physical presence, shared breath, and human touch. Both honour the value of each, without idealising either.8. Making as magickKnitting circles, tea-leaf reading, knot-tying, stitching, and making with the hands emerge as deeply magickal practices. Not because of what they produce, but because of the states they invite: focus, rhythm, connection, and story. Art, craft, and creation are named as spellwork in their own right.Join us for a conversation that offers permission to pause without stopping, to practise magick without labels, and to trust that presence itself is transformative.-- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- --All of the Magick:The A Pinch of Magick App:IPhone - download on the App StoreAndroid - download pn the Google PlayOur (free) magickal Community: Facebook GroupMagickal JournalsExplore on Amazon Rebecca's Author PageWebsiteRebeccaAnuwen.comMagickalHabits.comInstagramFor Magick: Click hereFor a Sacred Pause in Nature: Click hereFor CharmCasting: Click hereFor Merlin, my Dog: Click here

It's the end of 2025 and we've finally made it to our last episode about New Girl's "Cooler" — and this time we're talking solely about that iconic Nick/Jess first kiss.Jenn (@notajenny) and Jaime (@jaimepoland) obviously have a lot of thoughts about what makes this kiss so unanimously hot and beloved. So they dive into the specifics of the way the kiss is shot and choreographed, praising everyone who works behind the scenes to make romance look... well, incredibly romantic! They then talk about why it's so important that one of New Girl's most memorable moments is a romance-forward one and they watch the kiss in real-time to unpack all of their thoughts and feelings — as well as new things they notice still, 12 years later.Watch along with us! Enjoy, all!We will be back in 2026 with a lot more New Girl to discuss.Mentioned in this episode:Liz Meriwether's interview discussing the Nick/Jess kiss. Our recommended media:"A Witch's Guide to Magical Inkeeping" by Sangu Mandanna"Best Hex Ever" and "Love at First Fright" by Nadia El-FassiFollow us on Bluesky, Instagram, and Twitter for more fun content. Let's Chat!!Boo, Bitches!Today on our mini cauldron of chaos episode, we're attempting the most dangerous ritual of all: cleaning the house. That's right—banishing dust, hexing mold, negotiating with sentient laundry piles, and confronting the Underworld portal under the couch. This mini episode turns everyday cleaning into full-blown domestic witchcraft, complete with sweeping spells, glamour magick countertops, judgmental house spirits, and a vacuum that may or may not be choking on your life choices. From incense-fueled pre-clean rituals to bathroom banishing (abandon hope), ancestor-approved dusting, and sealing your work like the High Priestess (or Priest!) of Lemon Sorcery that you are—this episode proves that cleaning isn't just a chore. It's purification. It's protection. It's chaos management with a broom.Light a candle, crack a window, tell your house spirits to hush, and join us for witchy wisdom, unhinged truths, and the reminder that if a spirit wants to judge your mess… they can grab a mop.Happy cleansing, witches—and happy New Year. Join historian Greg Jenner for a fast-paced, funny and fascinating journey through the Witch Craze, a terrifying period in European history when thousands were accused of witchcraft, and many paid the ultimate price. This episode of Dead Funny History is packed with jokes, sketches and sound effects that bring the past to life for families and Key Stage 2 learners. From the infamous Malleus Maleficarum to King James I's witch-hunting book Daemonologie, Greg explores how fear, superstition and social upheaval led to over 45,000 executions across Europe.Discover how people were accused of witchcraft for talking to animals, having freckles, or simply being old and female. Learn about bizarre “tests” like swimming with thumbs tied to toes, and how pets named Satan could land you in trouble. There's even a spoof gameshow, a parody beauty vlog, and a goat who's tired of being scapegoated. The episode also highlights real historical figures like Agnes Waterhouse, England's first woman executed for witchcraft, and Matthew Hopkins, the self-appointed Witchfinder General who tortured victims during the English Civil War. As the year dies and the longest night creeps in (yes, we are past the solstice, but it took a bit to edit this one), we're turning our attention to one of folklore's most enduring, misunderstood, and deeply unbothered figures: the Hag. In this episode, we wade into swamps, crossroads, and liminal spaces to explore hags across myth, fairy tales, and witchcraft traditions. From crones and night hags to divine old women and winter spirits, we unpack how hags became symbols of fear, power, age, autonomy, and survival, and why they tend to show up when the light is fading. Are hags villains? Guardians? Witches who opted out of being palatable? Or something much older than all of that? Light a candle, lock your doors, and enjoy the solstice. The hags are watching.
