NISSAN MARKS 10 YEARS OF LEAF Nissan today celebrated the 10th anniversary of the Nissan LEAF and the delivery of 500,000 LEAF vehicles since the model was first introduced. More than 148,000 have been sold in the United States.. the LEAF, which first went on sale in Japan and U.S. in December 2010. Back then the EPA range was 73 miles from a 24kWh pack. Until the first quarter of 2020 it was the worlds biggest selling EV, and around February/March the Tesla Model 3 took that crown. LEAF = Leading, Environmentally-friendly, Affordable Family car. In July this year, Nissan unveiled the Nissan Ariya all-electric crossover. Nissan plans to sell 1 million electrified vehicles annually by 2023, including EVs and vehicles with e-POWER electrified powertrains. Japan considers banning sale of new gasoline-powered vehicles in mid-2030s "Japan may ban sales of new gasoline-engine cars by the mid-2030s in favor of hybrid or electric vehicles, public broadcaster NHK reported on Thursday, aligning it with other countries and regions that are imposing curbs on fossil fuel vehicles." says Autoblog: "Japan's industry ministry is considering requiring all new vehicles to be electric or hybrid, NHK reported earlier, adding the ministry would finalize a formal target following expert-panel debates as early as the year-end." https://www.autoblog.com/2020/12/03/japan-considers-ban-on-internal-combustion-cars/ BP BRINGS CHARGEMASTER AND POLAR TOGETHER "BP has launched BP Pulse, the new name for both BP Chargemaster and the Polar network. As part of this rebrand, the websites for the two have been merged into a single BP Pulse website, as has the mobile apps." says Current NEws: "Its subscription scheme will continue to operate, enabling access to BP Pulse public chargepoints for £7.85 per month, and throughout November, all 50kW Ultracharge units were upgraded with a contactless payment terminal and improved software. BP acquired the EV charging company in 2018 in a £130 million deal." https://www.current-news.co.uk/news/bp-brings-chargemaster-and-polar-together-under-new-bp-pulse-umbrella VOLVO CEO SAYS BANNING ICE CARS IS MORE EFFECTIVE THAN CREDITS FOR EVS "ICE car banning is way more effective than giving people money to buy electric cars. This is what Håkan Samuelsson at the “FT Live: Future of the Car Digital Conference.” For Volvo’s CEO, if electric cars are the future of personal transportation, putting a deadline for combustion-engined vehicle sales helps companies plan for EVs accordingly – and promote EV adoption." reports InsideEVs: "Samuelsson said incentives do not help in building sustainable and profitable businesses. When carbon credits and subsidies end, what is left is what will keep these enterprises going." https://insideevs.com/news/458358/volvo-ceo-banning-ice-more-effective-subsidies/ VW ID.3 THE BEST-SELLING CAR IN NORWAY IN NOVEMBER "In Norway, 7,035 new electric cars were registered in November. Electric vehicles accounted for 56.1 per cent of new passenger car registrations. With 986 units, the VW ID.3 was the most popular model across all drive types." says Chris at electrive: " With 63,071 electric cars since the beginning of the year, the Norwegian electric car market is higher than in the same period last year (56,196). most new registrations were for Volkswagen ID.3, whose deliveries only started in September. This means that 5,451 ID.3 have been delivered in Norway since September, bringing the model to second place in overall statistics in just three months." https://www.electrive.com/2020/12/03/norway-counts-7035-new-bevs-in-november/ TESLA MODEL 3’S WITH LFP BATTERIES NO LONGER HAVE DAILY/TRIP BATTERY CHARGE RECOMMENDATIONS IN THE APP "A few months ago Tesla Customer Support in China revealed customers with the new LFP (lithium iron phosphate) batteries could charge their batteries to 100% without adversely impacting the health of the battery pack. Now the first customers in Europe are taking delivery of the first batch of imported Model 3’s from Giga Shanghai with the new batteries, and Tesla has made a change to the mobile app." according to Drive Tesla Canada: "Previously the charging screen in the app would have recommended charge levels for both daily use, with a bracketed range of between 50% and 80%. For 90% to 100% charges, the app classified that range as being only for a ‘trip’. With the new LFP batteries, the only recommended charge limits are between 50% and 100%." https://driveteslacanada.ca/model-3/new-tesla-model-3s-with-lfp-batteries-no-longer-have-daily-trip-battery-charge-recommendations-in-the-app/ MATE RIMAC SAYS SPAC FUNDING COULD DAMAGE INDUSTRY "A surge in the use of special purpose acquisition companies (SPAC) for raising money for electric vehicle startups could harm the long-term prospects of the industry, Mate Rimac, founder of electric hypercar maker Rimac, said on Thursday." repotrs Autoblog: "Managers of SPAC companies are not held to the same level of liability about potential growth prospects as managers who raise cash via an initial public offering (IPO) on equity markets, spurring concerns about an investor bubble. SPACs, also known as "blank-check companies," are small companies with an established track record of filings at the United States Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) which are then used to buy up promising companies in high-growth sectors. Companies including Faraday Future, Canoo, Nikola, Fisker and Lordstown Motors have used the tactic to obtain funding." With the ever closer relationship between Rimac and VW Group we could see them buying Bugatti, or being given a large stake in return for VW access to Rimac technology. https://www.autoblog.com/2020/12/03/mate-rimac-electric-car-startups-spac-funding/ ELON MUSK PLANS TO MOVE CLOSE TO GIGAAUSTIN "Several of his close friends and associates say that Musk has told them he’s planning to move to the Lone Star State." says CNBC: "He spends most of his time between Austin, where Tesla and his tunnel start-up Boring Company have operations, and a coastal village called Boca Chica, home to a SpaceX facility. Getting out of California, with the highest income tax in the country, and into Texas, which has no state income tax, could save Musk billions of dollars based on his compensation package awarded in 2018. The state’s top lawmaker, Gov. Abbott, certainly seems to think Musk is making the move. In July, Abbott said on CNBC’s “Squawk Box” that Musk told him he’d gotten a Texas driver’s license and is a “bona fide Texan now.” https://www.cnbc.com/2020/12/02/tesla-ceo-elon-musk-plans-to-move-to-texas-friends-and-associates-say.html OPEL ‘SURPRISED’ AS MOKKA-E SELLS OUT BEFORE LAUNCH "Another EV sold out before it launched. This time, it’s the upcoming Opel Mokka-e that is sold out in Europe, even though the car won’t hit the road until next March. Opel says they were “totally surprised” by the demand and were expecting a “high-four-digit” number of sales next year." says electrek: "Not only did Opel sell out the initial “Edition” model, but even the base model’s next year production has already been sold out. Attractive pricing, particularly due to strong government incentives which reduce the price of the car by nearly a third, were responsible for high sales in Germany – but out-of-Germany sales were also much stronger than expected." https://electrek.co/2020/12/03/opel-mokka-e-sells-out/ NEW-GENERATION APP FOR BMW CUSTOMERS A new-generation app is now available to customers in 30 European markets, China and Korea: the My BMW App features a new-look design, intuitive and simplified user experience, and new services to support individual electromobility. It displays information on the status of the vehicle and, depending on the equipment, allows functions to be activated remotely (e.g. to locate the vehicle, lock and unlock the doors, or monitor the vehicle surroundings (Remote 3D View)) Customers are informed of available Remote Software Upgrades via the My BMW App and can easily download these upgrades at home before transferring them to and installing them in the vehicle. With Remote Software Upgrades, the BMW Group offers customers with BMW Operating System 7 new and improved digital features on a regular basis and the ability to ensure that their vehicle software is always up to date. The BMW Digital Key, which turns an iPhone into a vehicle key, offers convenient set-up via the My BMW App in just a few steps. Amazon Alexa can be used in vehicles with BMW Operating System 7. Once the customer has linked their Amazon account in the app, they can use the voice assistant in the vehicle by saying the activation word “Alexa” or at the touch of a button The app offers additional features for electrified BMW vehicles, including an improved overview of the electric range, charging status and charging history. Customers can use the charge and climate timer to optimise the charging process by defining specific time slots for charging and set departure times. Pre-conditioning is also available (to heat the vehicle in winter or cool it in summer, for example) for enhanced comfort. https://www.press.bmwgroup.com/global/article/detail/T0321612EN/your-world-my-bmw-the-new-generation-app-for-bmw-customers-now-available-in-30-european-markets-china-and-korea TOYOTA PRICES MIRAI FUEL CELL SEDAN TO WIN EV BUYERS "Toyota aims to increase acceptance of fuel cell cars by pricing its latest Mirai hydrogen-powered sedan below that of a long-range full-electric car." says Automotive NEws Europe: "The second-generation Mirai will cost from 64,000 euros ($77,800) when it goes on sale in Europe next year, below the 82,900 euros Tesla charges in Germany for its similar-sized Model S Long Range Plus with 100 kilowatt-hour battery. Toyota is targeting a 10-fold increase in global sales of the Mirai. The automaker limited European sales of the current model to about 800 over its five-year lifespan." Toyota Europe's powertrain boss, Thiebault Paquet, told Automotive News Europe: "It plays a similar role to what Prius was doing for hybrid technology". Are Toyota too wedded to the idea of their hydrogen technology being a pioneer like the Prius was? Do they want lightning to strike twice and repeat the trick? Will it be a one-hit wonder? https://europe.autonews.com/latest-launches/toyota-mirai-fuel-cell-sedan-priced-win-ev-buyers You can listen to all 942 previous episodes of this this for free, where you get your podcasts from, plus the blog https://www.evnewsdaily.com/ – remember to subscribe, which means you don’t have to think about downloading the show each day, plus you get it first and free and automatically. An episode about an Elkwood election, an orange velour jumpsuit, and a man named Declan. PODCAST UPDATE: I’m going to take a break from uploading podcast episodes until 2021 (I’m thinking February/March). I’ve been working on another project for the past year and I want to give it my full attention for the next two months, and in doing so let the podcast recalibrate for a little bit - that’s the word I’m using recalibrate. And yes this means it may not come back in the same format, nothing is set in stone just yet, still brainstorming. I’ll be updating via https://www.instagram.com/heresmything_/ and my personal account https://www.instagram.com/johnroussosss/ I so appreciate your support!!!!

Niladri Mukherjee of Merrill Lynch Bank of America Private Bank says that investors are more bearish now -- with the Standard and Poor's 500 Index at 3,300 -- than they were when the benchmark stood 1,000 points lower at the bottom of the market's February-March blood-letting. That sentiment is helping to create a pent-up demand that turns most declines into buying opportunities, and is why the market, according to Mukherjee, is entering a new bull cycle, rekindling the secular bull market that started about seven years ago. Brian Kraus of the Hartford Funds talks about a recent survey in which investors discussed how the outcome of the presidential election will impact their investment decisions, Andrew Hsu of the DoubleLine Funds discusses the impact that the election will have on infrastructure spending and project bonds, and David Trainer of New Constructs puts Dropbox stock in the 'Danger Zone' saying it is significantly overpriced now.
Abhay Deshpande, chief investment officer at Centerstone Investors, says that the market's February-March swoon created the best situation that value investors had seen since the financial crisis of 2008, and that the recent rebound back to record-high ranges hasn't diminished the value prospects for a lot of businesses. Deshpande says that 2020 by the numbers -- rather than the events that have caused them and hijacked the headlines -- is reasonably close to what he might have expected at the start of the year. Also on the show, Tom Lydon of ETFTrends.com picks a brand new fund with ties to the Nasdaq Compiste Index as his 'ETF of the Week,' Matt Schulz of CompareCards.com discusses the impact that a $500 debt repayment will have on the average credit score, and Eric Heyman of the Olstein Strategic Opportunities fund makes his debut talking stocks in the Market Call.

Currently, she serves as the principal deputy director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). She served as acting CDC director from January-July 2017 and February-March 2018. In the past 15 years, Dr. Schuchat worked on CDC emergency responses for the 2009 H1N1 pandemic influenza response, the 2003 SARS outbreak in Beijing, and the 2001 bioterrorist anthrax response. She’s worked at the CDC since 1988 on immunization, respiratory and infectious disease. Kate Winslet’s character in the 2011 film ‘Contagion’ was even modeled after Schuchat. She sat down with ASTHO for a 1-on-1 to discuss her reaction to the COVID-19 response, what policymakers should be thinking about next, and what keeps her up at night. “The virus hasn’t gone through the entire population. We don’t know whether the months ahead will bring a much worse illness, but I think we need to be ready for that. We need to have our systems even stronger than they’ve been in the past few months,” Schuchat says. You can find her online at https://stephaniehughesjournalism.com/ (all social media links are available there). Stephanie & I recorded this episode earlier in the year prior to the year with the intention of releasing it in late February/March, but I feared that it would get lost in the media attention that covid-19 was getting. As a result, we released a sister-episode of the new coronavirus themed series "Covid-eo Chats", which will be posted shortly. The two episodes really give a great context on the state of retail prior to coronavirus and the risks and potential scenarios that could arise as a result of it.

In the winter of 1931, a dramatic manhunt unfolded in northern Canada when a reclusive trapper shot a constable and fled across the frigid landscape. In the chase that followed the mysterious fugitive amazed his pursuers with his almost superhuman abilities. In this week's episode of the Futility Closet podcast we'll describe the hunt for the "Mad Trapper of Rat River." We'll also visit a forgotten windbreak and puzzle over a father's age. Intro: Korean soldier Yang Kyoungjong was conscripted successively by Japan, the Soviet Union, and Germany. In 1978, Arnold Rosenberg examined idioms to trace a path to the most incomprehensible natural language. Ferdinand Demara earned his reputation as the Great Impostor: For over 22 years he criss-crossed the country, posing as everything from an auditor to a zoologist and stealing a succession of identities to fool his employers. In this week's episode of the Futility Closet podcast we'll review Demara's motivation, morality, and techniques -- and the charismatic spell he seemed to cast over others. We'll also make Big Ben strike 13 and puzzle over a movie watcher's cat. Intro: In 1825, Thomas Steele proposed enclosing Isaac Newton's residence in a pyramid surmounted by a stone globe. Season 4 Episode 1 When Captain Briggs set sail in the Mary Celeste he had no idea that he and his family and the ship would become the Ghost Ship that people would still be talking about almost 150 years later. This story has all my favorites for the Halloween season. A ghost ship, history, mystery and maybe even pirates. What happened to the family and crew of the Mary Celeste? See Peter at the Las Vegas Freedom Fest – July 17-20 https://www.freedomfest.com/ Save $50 using promo code SCHIFF Markets Up on Low Volume A lot of people on Wall Street probably took today off; after all yesterday was the Fourth of July, the market was closed. On Wednesday they closed the markets early in preparation for the July Fourth holiday. So when you have a Friday where the markets are open, but you have a Thursday when they're closed… most people probably left for the Hamptons on Wednesday afternoon, and so were not in their offices or down at the stock market when we released the nonfarm payroll numbers today. ADP Disappointing Number Teed Up Low Expectations The June number, highly anticipated, as always, especially with a rate cut on deck now by the Fed. Most of the people who were probably handicapping the jobs number thought that it would probably come out weaker than expected. After all, most of the data we've been getting has been weaker than expected. In particular, the jobs numbers, including the ADP report that came out on Wednesday, on that holiday-shortened trading session. We got a disappointing number. The consensus for private-sector employment for ADP was 140,000, and we ended up with 102,000. So we had a significant miss in the ADP numbers. Back-to-Back Declines in Small Business Jobs But also, look at the employment components of some of the other numbers that also came out weak on Wednesday, like the ISM non-manufacturing index. It printed 55.1 versus an estimate of 55.8. The employment component of that index was notably weak, especially for small businesses which had major reduction in jobs, no only in this month but the previous month. In fact, I read a tweet by Dave Rosenberg who pointed out that he hasn't seen back-to-back monthly declines like this since February/March of 2008. That was the year of the Financial Crisis. He basically said that small business job growth is the weakest it's been in over 9 years. Bigger Decline in Factory Orders Now, small business job growth, that is the heart of the job market. That's where most of the jobs are created. So, if you look at a lot of the other data that has been coming out that might reflect on employment, you might have thought that there might have been a weak number. Look at the factory orders number that also came out on Wednesday. They were looking for a drop of .5% in factory orders, and instead, the orders dropped by .7%. So a bigger decline.
In 1830 Joseph Palmer created an odd controversy in Fitchburg, Massachusetts: He wore a beard when beards were out of fashion. For this social sin he was shunned, attacked, and ultimately jailed. In this week's episode of the Futility Closet podcast we'll tell the story of a bizarre battle against irrational prejudice. We'll also see whether a computer can understand knitting and puzzle over an unrewarded long jump. Intro: Prospector William Schmidt dug through California's Copper Mountain. Show Notes: Currently 38 weeks pregnant Have had quite a successful pregnancy-- this one has gone by much faster (probably because I've been chasing my toddler) Planning to have my daughter at the birth. We've prepared by having her watch birth videos and even listening to/watching the video of me pushing with her This pregnancy I: continued strength training throughout- I feel it made a huge difference for me I did start eating more poorly during February/March, so I did the Whole30 with my husband and daughter as a reset in April and felt much better I got sick with a stomach bug around 34 weeks- I don't wish that on anyone! So awful to be sick and that pregnant. I worried momentarily I'd accidentally push the baby out while puking. I had a blessingway ceremony this past weekend. Surrounded by amazing midwives and birth workers who love me. We: ate, had a bead ceremony, a fear-releasing ceremony, made an affirmation banner, and prayed over me If you had a Blessingway, what did you do? Please send me songs to add to my playlist- feel free to send them via your instagram stories, tagging @happyhomebirthpodcast
