Thanks!Revelation 11 John is given a measuring rod and told to measure the temple of God, the altar, and those who worship there, but not the outer court, for it is given to the nations. God appoints two witnesses to prophesy for 1,260 days, clothed in sackcloth. They have power to bring plagues, shut the sky, and strike the earth. After their testimony ends, the beast from the abyss kills them, and their bodies lie in the great city for three and a half days. The world rejoices over their death, but God raises them to life, and they ascend to heaven. A great earthquake follows. The seventh trumpet sounds, and voices in heaven declare that the kingdom of the world has become the kingdom of Christ, and He shall reign forever.  God's care for His people is clear in the vision of the measured temple, showing that He knows and protects those who worship Him. The two witnesses could symbolize faithful believers who speak God's truth in a hostile world. Their message brings both warning and hope, and their power comes directly from God. Even when they are struck down, God raises them to life, proving that His purposes cannot be stopped. This encourages us to remain bold in our witness, even when it comes at a cost. The seventh trumpet reveals that Christ now reigns as King. His kingdom has triumphed. We are called to trust in His victory and remain faithful, knowing that our testimony is never in vain.  Glorious Father, we praise You for Your power, justice, and unfailing promises. You protect those who worship You, and You empower Your witnesses to speak truth in a dark world. Even when evil seems to win, You raise up Your people and display Your victory. Help us to be faithful, bold, and unafraid to share Your message, no matter the cost. Strengthen our hearts with the hope that Your kingdom reigns now and forever. Let our lives reflect Your glory, and our voices proclaim Your truth. And you will have joy and gladness, and many will rejoice at his birth, for he will be great in the sight of the Lord.” Luke 1:13–15Unlike Saint Joseph and the Blessed Virgin Mary, Zechariah doubted the angel of the Lord's revelation. Our Blessed Mother encountered the Archangel Gabriel at the Annunciation and responded, “Behold, I am the handmaid of the Lord. May it be done to me according to your word” (Luke 1:38). An angel of the Lord appeared to Joseph in a dream, and when Joseph awoke, “he did as the angel of the Lord had commanded him” (Matthew 1:24).Today, we are given a similar scene to ponder. Zechariah and Elizabeth are identified as being “righteous in the eyes of God, observing all the commandments and ordinances of the Lord blamelessly” (Luke 1:6). In other words, Zechariah was a holy man of God. While he was standing at the altar of incense located in the Holy Place, just outside the veil of the Holy of Holies, the Archangel Gabriel appeared to him to announce that his wife had conceived a child in her old age. Gabriel further reveals, “He will be filled with the Holy Spirit even from his mother's womb, and he will turn many of the children of Israel to the Lord their God” (Luke 1:15–16).Given Zechariah's personal holiness and the extraordinary revelation he received from Gabriel, he should have believed what Gabriel said without hesitation. When he failed to do so, Gabriel said to him, “I am Gabriel, who stand before God. I was sent to speak to you and to announce to you this good news. But now you will be speechless and unable to talk until the day these things take place, because you did not believe my words…” (Luke 1:19–20).This chastisement was clearly for Zechariah's benefit. Despite his lack of faith, God wanted him to participate in His divine plan of salvation. The chastisement was not a punishment in a punitive way. It was meant to instill greater faith in him, and it accomplished its purpose.Most of us are more like Zechariah than we are like our Blessed Mother and Saint Joseph. Despite our best intentions and attempts to remain faithful to God's will, we stumble. When that happens, we must see any consequences as a gift of love from God. Chastisements come in many forms. They are meant to wake us up to a greater obedience to God's will. Reflect today on any ways that your sins have resulted in consequences. It takes deep humility to admit our sins and take responsibility for their effects. Though it is easy to be angry, to point the finger elsewhere, and to justify our actions, doing so is a rejection of God's loving chastisement meant for our good. Strive to imitate Zecharaiah by humbly changing when your sin results in consequences so that God can bring good into your life, even from a lack of faith and obedience to His will.Most merciful Lord, You chastise those whom You love so as to redirect them to Your holy will. When I sin, please help me to accept the consequences with humility and as a motivation to turn back to You in fidelity and love. Please make me holy in imitation of Zechariah, Saint Joseph, and our Blessed Mother. He is the One who turns our ordinary water into extraordinary wine. He is the One who responds to the deep cries of our hearts. In Him, our longings meet their answer. The Gospel of John reveals Him, over and over again, in powerful signs and wonders—but those signs are not the point. They are arrows directing us to the One who gives life. During Advent, may our eyes and hearts be open to recognize Him afresh. Emmanuel—God with us—has come. He has not only identified with us by taking on our humanity but has also embraced us so that we might share in the very life and joy He has with the Father, through the Spirit. This is the depth of His love, and in that love, we find our true value—how deeply we are loved and cherished by God. Let us pray for eyes to see the signs and hearts to believe what they show us: that all is pointing to Jesus, to His love, His sacrifice, His inclusion of us into God's very life. That is my prayer for my own soul, for my family, and for you. May we see all the signs, and may they always lead us to Him. May it be so. Happiness in Marriage by Autumn Dickson This week is all about The Family Proclamation. Here is the topic I want to cover. Happiness in family life is most likely to be achieved when founded upon the teachings of the Lord Jesus Christ. I want to talk about happiness in marriage specifically, but the principles I speak about can be applied more broadly to any relationship you're going to be a part of. Marriages are falling apart in our day. Satan is coming after the family in a multi-pronged attack, but destroying marriages is just one part of how he chooses to do this. Social media loves showing off images of bright and shiny couples, individuals who seem so much happier alone, and advice about how your spouse should be acting towards you. We're taught that we deserve to be happy and if we're not happy, we should leave. We're taught that if a spouse can't meet our needs, we can't be happy. We're taught that it's better for the kids if we're happy. And yet, despite all of this teaching, the world can't seem to get it together and be happy. Oh the irony. I love my marriage. I'm so grateful to have Conner, and there are a lot of reasons for that. One of those reasons is not because Conner or I have been perfect. It's not because we agree on everything, or even agree on everything that's really important. It's not because we've never been mean to each other or because we've never had to navigate days at a time where we can't really figure out how to get past something. It's not because Conner is so intuitive at reading me or because I never complain. We are two different people with different baggage, different perspectives, different personalities, different ways of handling things. We are two people who experience times of drowning stress, resentment, uncertainty, and traumas. It can be easy to look at happy couples and assume that they have it easy, but that's not true. It's not true for anyone. There are relationships that hold more difficulty than others which is why I encourage everyone to seek the help of the Lord in knowing what to do. However, if you've married a generally decent person who doesn't scream at you, belittle you, act violently towards you, financially abuse you, then there is hope for happiness. And your best chance for happiness lies in following the teachings of Jesus Christ. Christ didn't focus on communication styles or on making sure you have everything in common ahead of entering a relationship. He didn't focus on love languages or living together ahead of time to see if you're compatible or any of the other stuff that the world tries pushing so hard. He doesn't even focus on making sure the other person knows how to take care of you in a relationship. He didn't focus on changing the other person so that you could be happy. The foremost characteristic of Christ's life was love, love for God and then love for others. Everything He did, the miracles and leading and teaching and forgiving and gratitude and serving all boiled down to that great love. If we want to be happy, we have to love the other person more fully. In order to find this happiness, you have to have a correct understanding of what that love looks like. Otherwise, you run the risk of building up more resentment rather than finding happiness. Love does not mean you're a doormat. It doesn't mean you never say anything or complain. It doesn't mean that you smile and stay silent when you're hurting. Love is not an outward action. It is an inward feeling that inspires different kinds of outward actions. Sometimes love does mean looking at the back of a person and choosing to smile even when they're doing something annoying again. Sometimes it does mean mercy and forgiveness and letting go when none of it was your fault. Sometimes it means accepting them exactly as they are and finding it within yourself to feel affectionate anyway. Other times, the most loving thing you can do is speak up. Sometimes the most loving thing you can do is tell someone they're wrong. The beautiful thing about it coming from a place of love is that the Spirit can help you know how to handle the situation in the best way available. Chastisement also hits differently when you can feel that the other person is actually more worried about you rather than worried about how you're making their life harder. Think of it in this way. When Conner comes to correct me sometimes (which we do often enough for each other), I get up in arms sometimes. My gut reaction is to insist that he doesn't understand what I'm going through, and criticism isn't helpful. Luckily, I have a husband who gets this, and he often continues the conversation calmly. He also dives in and tells how it would be better for me if I chose to make different decisions. It's extremely effective. He once told me that I needed to be more consistent in my discipline with one of our kids. I was so mad. It is so difficult to keep up sometimes, and it's hard to figure out the balance between disciplining your kids and letting it go because you're desperate or because you don't want them to feel like terrible kids. But he continued on calmly. He told me that I was actually making my own life harder by letting things go, that it would only take a couple of days of consistency and my kids would know I was serious. He was totally right but beyond that, he also did it with sincere love for me, and that made all the difference. Correcting me was a form of love; it was Christlike. Not to mention, it landed differently because it was about love for me. He wasn't correcting me because I was making his life more difficult. He was correcting me because he really wanted me to live better. I'm not going to pretend this isn't a hard point to reach. It is hard to love someone when you don't feel loved. It's hard to love someone when you feel like you're the only one who has been stepping up. It's hard to love someone when you're drowning in your own stress. It calls upon some of your deepest willpower and self-observation. I'm not talking about reaching down and hollowing yourself out and giving the last pieces of yourself. I'm not talking about resigning yourself to misery because you have to love them rather than begging them to change. I'm talking about letting go of your need to change them in order for you to find happiness. I'm talking about actively working on yourself, not to stop complaining or to stop nitpicking, but to actively and consciously choose to love them in the hardest moments. If you want to be happy in family life, you have to follow the teachings of Christ. One of the foremost characteristics of Christ, the characteristic that motivated everything else, was a sincere and deep love of everyone. Including those who wouldn't change or didn't deserve it. If you want to be happy, love freely. Happiness doesn't come from being loved perfectly; it comes from loving more perfectly. That is the truth. You have to change yourself to love the other person more freely. This goes for any kind of relationship. This doesn't mean you need to stay in every relationship, but loving the other person will help you heal faster even if that person was awful. It's counterintuitive but true. Truly loving someone frees you and heals you and brings happiness. Perhaps it seems too simple for your problem. Maybe you're insisting that I don't know your spouse and how hard it is. You're right. I don't. But I do know the power of changing to be like Christ. I do know that He was the most brilliant Man to ever walk the earth. I know that He knows what He was talking about. In any situation in your marriage (or any other relationship), trying to adopt love into your heart in the way that Christ loved will make the difference. I testify that happiness in any kind of relationship comes when we act like Christ. We find happiness. I testify that even if you can't find happiness directly in your relationship, there is a powerful happiness available in drawing closer to Christ. There is a powerful happiness that comes when you find it within yourself to love the other person and lean on Christ and His deep love when you need it. Welcome to Day 2756 of Wisdom-Trek, and thank you for joining me. This is Guthrie Chamberlain, Your Guide to Wisdom – Theology Thursday – 10 Times Jesus Declared His Divinity in the Gospels. Wisdom-Trek Podcast Script - Day 2756 Welcome to Wisdom-Trek with Gramps!   I am Guthrie Chamberlain, and we are on Day 2756 of our Trek.   The Purpose of Wisdom-Trek is to create a legacy of wisdom, to seek out discernment and insights, and to boldly grow where few have chosen to grow before. Our current series of Theology Thursday lessons is written by theologian and teacher John Daniels. I have found that his lessons are short, easy to understand, doctrinally sound, and applicable to all who desire to learn more of God's Word. John's lessons can be found on his website   theologyinfive.com.   Today's lesson is titled 10 Times Jesus Declared His Divinity in the Gospels. Throughout the Gospels, Jesus repeatedly stated and demonstrated that He was God. His declarations and actions are not isolated from the broader context of Scripture but are deeply rooted in the Old Testament, which serves as the foundation for understanding His divine identity. In this article, we will examine the key moments in the Gospels where Jesus claimed divinity, using the OT to provide context and clarity. Let's look at the ten times Jesus declared his divinity. 1. Jesus as the “I AM” One of the clearest statements of Jesus' divinity comes in John eight verse fifty-eight when He declares, “Truly, truly, I say to you, before Abraham was, I AM.” This is an unmistakable reference to Exodus three verse fourteen, where God revealed Himself to Moses as “I AM WHO I AM.” By using this title, Jesus identifies Himself with the God of Israel, YHWH (Yahweh), who spoke to Moses from the burning bush. The Jewish audience understood the weight of this statement, as they immediately sought to stone Him for blasphemy (John eight verse fifty-nine). 2. Jesus Forgives Sins In Mark two, verses five through seven, Jesus forgives the sins of a paralytic man, which prompts the scribes to question, “Why does this man speak like that? He is blaspheming! Who can forgive sins but God alone?” Here, Jesus performs an act that, according to Jewish belief, only God could do. His authority to forgive sins demonstrates that He is not merely a prophet or teacher but possesses divine authority. In Isaiah forty-three verse twenty-five, God states, “I, even I, am He who blots out your transgressions for My own sake.” Jesus' actions directly connect Him with this divine function. 3. Jesus Receives Worship In multiple instances, Jesus accepts worship, which in Jewish monotheism is reserved exclusively for God. For example, after walking on water and calming the storm, His disciples worship Him, saying, “Truly, You are the Son of God” (Matthew fourteen, verse thirty-three). In Deuteronomy six, verse thirty-three, it is commanded, “You shall worship the Lord your God and Him only shall you serve.” Yet, Jesus receives worship without rebuke, implying His divine status. In contrast, angels and apostles in the Bible refuse worship, redirecting it to God (Revelation twenty-two, verses eight and nine, Acts fourteen, verse fifteen. 4. Jesus' Claim to be the Son of Man Jesus frequently refers to Himself as the “Son of Man,” a title from Daniel seven, verses thirteen and fourteen, where the Son of Man comes “with the clouds of heaven” and is given “dominion, glory, and a kingdom” that will never pass away. This figure is distinct from ordinary human beings, as He is...

The Prison Pulpit As I’ve stated all year, the goal of the Prison Pulpit series is to remind people to pray for persecuted believers as Hebrews 13:3 teaches us to do: “Remember those who are in prison, as bound with them.” As I am recording this podcast, we have just passed the 7th anniversary of the attack and forced closure of Early Rain Church in Chengdu, China, and the arrest of Pastor Wang Yi, on December 9th, 2018. A couple weeks ago I read the Wang Yi family newsletter that was published just 12 days before his arrest on Dec 9, 2018. Last week I shared a few updates that were put out by unnamed Early Rain Church members in the aftermath of the attack and arrest of the pastor and most of the leadership. As one of last week's updates reminded us, there was no guarantee that the next update would ever come. Arrests were ongoing and, for lack of a better phrase, church leaders were falling like flies. However, in spite of all this, more updates did follow, and I want to share some of them with you now: Early Rain Urgent Prayer Update #10 (12/12/18) May the Lord give us love for souls. These law enforcement officers greatly need the gospel of Christ. They have greatly sinned against God. We need to pray for them, for we were once like them. May the Lord himself speak words of comfort to us, for he has given his life for us. We suffer with those brothers and sisters who suffer as though imprisoned with them. May God make peace like a river flow through our hearts… Please strengthen your resolve, brothers and sisters. Experience in the midst of every kind of tribulation and danger the filling of the Holy Spirit and the renewal of your lives. Early Rain Urgent Prayer Update (12/15/18) According to some testimonies of brothers and sisters that have emerged, they have been sharing the gospel while under guard. They have been using their suffering as a beautiful testimony for the Lord. Some police officers and workers have been very interested in the gospel, even giving their addresses and asking for Bibles. May the Lord choose for himself children from among these law enforcement officers persecuting the church. Another encouraging testimony from a church member who was just released from 10 days of detention... “It is like a monastery in there. I cultivated myself for ten days there. Thank God for his protection. I often shared the gospel in there. There was a Tibetan named Z who really wanted to hear preaching, to join a small group, and to become a Christian. There was also a master’s student who has been quite miserable since entering [the detention center]. He wanted to buy a Bible, and I told him I would give him one. He also wanted to attend a small group Bible study. There was also another person who used to belong to a traditional house church but who stumbled because of marriage problems. I am preparing to give him one of our church’s thumb drives so he can listen to preaching. Please keep praying for the nearly 20 brothers and sisters at the detention center and for Yingxu and Shuqi, about whom we still have no information. And pray for the others, as well, because we don’t know how they are doing now. It is a high-level detention center, and it is quite strict; but from another perspective, the despair of the prisoners inside is also quite high, making evangelizing more fruitful. Thank the Lord!” Lord, the greatest freedom in the world is the freedom of becoming your children. You say that we will know the truth, and the truth will set us free. May your Spirit fill us and make us to worship freely, to enter prison freely, to spread the gospel freely. Give us free and noble hearts. Turn us into liberated criminals willing to be detained by the world. For a servant is not greater than his master. If they persecuted you, they will persecute us. We also ask you to forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing. Open their eyes to see your glory and turn them into free children! About the truth that not everything that feels uncomfortable is bad and that being fully present may be the greatest gift available to us right now. I share reflections on living seasonally not just in the garden or the kitchen, but in the soul. I  call it combing out the tangles of the heart and trusting God's steady presence in the midst of it all. Read OnlineWhen Joseph awoke, he did as the angel of the Lord had commanded him and took his wife into his home. Matthew 1:24The human person is a fascinating subject of study. Throughout the ages, countless philosophers, theologians, and social scientists have sought to understand the complexities of human nature. Within the Catholic philosophical tradition, Saint Thomas Aquinas stands out as an influential and trustworthy teacher on this topic.Aquinas teaches that while a person sleeps, the external senses are inactive. However, sense images within the imagination can still be active to varying degrees, depending on the depth of sleep, leading to the formation of dreams. Human reason is not entirely inactive during sleep, but it operates in a diminished capacity, which often results in dreams being nonsensical. Because the intellect's judgment is not fully engaged, the content of dreams is generally neither moral nor immoral.There is, however, another form of dream that transcends the normal and natural type. This is exemplified in Joseph's dream. In such divinely inspired dreams, like Joseph's, human reason is fully active—not because of the natural workings of the imagination—but because the dream is a direct result of divine intervention. In Joseph's case, his reason and intellect were fully engaged, allowing him to comprehend the divine message delivered by the angel. He was presented with a choice, and with his reason fully operative, he freely chose to say “Yes” to God's communication, thus embracing his role in the divine plan.This “Yes” to the divine plan is clearly illustrated in the passage quoted above. Upon awakening, Joseph “did as the angel of the Lord had commanded him.” His choice was made during his divinely inspired dream, and his will fully acted upon this decision when he awoke.Though divinely inspired dreams like Joseph's are uncommon, they do happen. We, however, do not need to wait for such a dream to imitate Joseph's obedience to God's will. Like Joseph, we have been given divine Truth. For us, that Truth comes primarily through Sacred Scripture and the teachings of the Church. The writings of the saints also help clarify all that God speaks to us.At times, our imaginations can lead us astray, much like in a dream. When we allow irrational thoughts to dictate our actions, we might find ourselves filled with anxiety, worry, and confusion. Imitating Joseph does not mean waiting for a divine dream; rather, it means actively engaging our minds with divine Truth as revealed through the Church and Sacred Scripture. We must then listen to that truth, dismiss irrational thoughts, and use our reason to command our will to act in obedience to God's will. Reflect, today, on whether you tend to dwell on irrational ideas or whether you turn your intellect to divine Truth as the basis for what you believe and how you act. Just as Joseph trusted in the Truth revealed to him by the angel and acted upon it, we too must place our trust in the Truth and act accordingly.My trustworthy Lord, You have revealed to us all Truth as is given to us through the Sacred Scripture and the teachings of the Church. When my imagination leads me astray into obsessive thinking and worrying, please speak to me and help me to hear Your voice. May every decision I make and action I take be in accord with Your Truth. By his divine power, God has given us everything we need for living a godly life. And because of his glory and excellence, he has given us great and precious promises. Because God fulfilled his promise to Abraham, that Abraham would become the father of many nations, the peoples of the world would recognize and understand the fatherhood of God. They would see that they have been included, adopted into a relationship with the Creator of all the world. Because of this promise and what Christ has done, we share in God's divine nature. That's something that will and should blow our minds. Peter says that we share in God's divine nature. And Peter wants us to participate in that. To participate in what is. To acknowledge and see and live in the joy of what is your inclusion into the life and love of God. Because God was true to his word. God did what he said he would do. He came and he rescued us and made us his own. So let's live in that, my friends. The triune God sent his Son to come and rescue us, to awaken us to who we really are, to who he is, what he has done and who we really are. We are those that share in his divine nature. We are children of God, made in the image of God. God has come to reveal this, to make this known, to let it become the thing that animates our lives, sets us free and gives us joy. So let's do that. It's as we live in the reality of this amazing truth and good news, we will indeed escape the corruptions of this world. We will not give in to the lusts of the world, the sinfulness of our flesh. No, we will be walking in the Spirit. That's the desire and the prayer that I have for my own soul. That's the prayer that I have for my family, for my wife and my daughters and my son. And that is the prayer that I have for you. May it be so. TODAY'S PRAYERS: Lord God Almighty and everlasting father you have brought us in safety to this new day preserve us with your Mighty power that we might not fall into sin or be overcome by adversity. This is Guthrie Chamberlain, Your Guide to Wisdom Day 2755 – Wisdom Nuggets – Psalm 102:1-17 – Daily Wisdom Wisdom-Trek Podcast Script - Day 2755 Welcome to Wisdom-Trek with Gramps! I am Guthrie Chamberlain, and we are on Day two thousand seven hundred fifty-five of our Trek. The Purpose of Wisdom-Trek is to create a legacy of wisdom, to seek out discernment and insights, and to boldly grow where few have chosen to grow before. The title for today's Wisdom-Trek is: The Prayer of the Destitute – Finding Hope Among the Ruins  Today, we step onto a path that is dusty, broken, and stained with tears. We are entering the landscape of Psalm One Hundred Two, and we will be trekking through the first half, verses one through seventeen, in the New Living Translation. In our previous trek through Psalm One Hundred One, we stood tall with King David. We looked into the "King's Mirror" and heard his bold manifesto of integrity. He vowed to walk blamelessly, to purge his house of liars, and to actively destroy the wicked from the City of the Lord. It was a psalm of strength, confidence, and royal authority. But life is not always lived on the mountaintop of royal confidence. Sometimes, the king loses his crown. Sometimes, the city we vowed to keep clean lies in ruins. Psalm One Hundred Two is the dark valley that often follows the mountain peak. This psalm stands out in the Psalter because of its unique superscription: "A prayer of one overwhelmed with trouble, pouring out problems before the LORD." It does not identify an author—no David, no Asaph, no Sons of Korah. It is anonymous, perhaps so that any of us, when we are "overwhelmed with trouble," can sign our own name to it. It is the fifth of the seven "Penitential Psalms," traditionally used by the church during Lent. It reflects a time—likely the Babylonian Exile—when the promises of Psalm One Hundred One seemed to have failed, and the glorious city of Zion was nothing but a heap of stones. Yet, in the midst of this devastation, we will find a pivot point of hope that is as sturdy as the throne of God itself. So, let us sit amidst the ashes and learn how to pray when we are falling apart. The first segment is: The Urgent Cry from the Void. Psalm One Hundred Two: verses one through two. Lord, hear my prayer! Listen to my plea!   Don't turn away from me in my time of distress.   Bend down to listen, and answer me quickly when I call. Guthrie Chamberlain: The psalm opens with panic. There is no preamble, no theological adoration, just a desperate, breathless clutch for connection: "Lord, hear my prayer! Listen to my plea!" When we are overwhelmed, our prayers often lose their polish. We stop trying to sound "spiritual" and just try to be heard. The psalmist is terrified of one thing: the silence of God. "Don't turn away from me in my time of distress." Literally, "Do not hide Your face." In the Ancient Israelite worldview, to see the face of the King was to have His favor and protection. For God to "hide His face" was the ultimate disaster. It meant the withdrawal of covenant protection,...
