He is given the key to the bottomless pit and opens it, releasing smoke that darkens the sky and a swarm of locusts with power like scorpions. These locusts do not harm plants but torment people who lack the seal of God on their foreheads. Their king is called Abaddon in Hebrew and Apollyon in Greek. The sixth angel then sounds his trumpet, and four angels bound at the Euphrates are released to kill a third of mankind. A vast army of horsemen appears, bringing death through fire, smoke, and sulfur. Despite these terrifying plagues, the rest of humanity does not repent of their sins, including idolatry, murder, sorcery, sexual immorality, and theft. Their hearts remain hardened.  We reflect on these scenes as fulfilled in the past, yet they still speak to our hearts today. The judgments were severe, and the suffering was great, yet people continued in rebellion. This shows the tragic reality of hardened hearts when pride resists repentance. We are reminded that judgment is not just about punishment but a call to turn back to God. Even now, we can learn from those who refused to repent. We must remain humble, quick to confess, and eager to walk in the light. God desires hearts that respond to His voice. These fulfilled events urge us to examine our own lives, reject sin, and faithfully follow the one who has sealed us with His name.  All-powerful Lord, we come before You with humility and reverence. You are just in all Your ways, and Your judgments are righteous and true. Though the scenes of Revelation 9 were fulfilled in the past, they remind us of the danger of hardened hearts and the cost of unrepented sin. Keep our hearts soft and open to Your truth. Help us turn from every form of evil and walk in obedience to Your will. Strengthen our faith and guard us with Your seal. May we never ignore Your voice but live each day with repentance, gratitude, and devotion to You.  Thought Questions: God's judgment on the enemy was extreme. What do God's actions teach you about His attitude toward sinfulness among the nations? What does the continued refusal to repent, even after suffering, reveal about how hard hearts can get? Peter admonishes the church to kiss one another, to offer each other a kiss of love. Christ offers us a kiss today, too. Even in the reading of this word, we can receive a kiss of love, his embrace. We can receive the kindness that he offers us. That's what we have in Christ. And our story will end just like this letter ends, with a kiss and an embrace from him. Judas offered Jesus a kiss, but it was a kiss of betrayal. All of us have offered God that same kiss of betrayal, in one way or another. We once were enemies of God, opposed to Him. But God was never opposed to us. And he was never our enemy. And he does not deal with us as our sins deserve. He does not betray us as we have betrayed Him. He does not even turn away from us in the wake of our betrayals. No. He does something absolutely scandalous. He offers us love in exchange for our betrayal. He doesn't pay back in kind. He gives us instead a kiss of love. And that love cost Him. The price was paid not in silver and gold, but with his precious blood shed for all of us—the sinless, spotless Lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world. Because Christ gave us a kiss of love for our betrayal, Peter says we must show sincere love for each other as brothers and sisters. You are cleansed from your sins when you obeyed the truth. So now he says you must show sincere love for each other. Love each other deeply with all your heart. That's verse 22. This letter ends with a kiss. So let's do that. I know that right now is kind of a strange time to be thinking about, let alone actually trying to do what the Scriptures are admonishing us to do here. It might be a real long time before we offer each other a kiss of love at our churches. But there are other ways that we can show kindness to each other. We can embrace each other regardless of our differences. We can do what Peter has said here. We can do what the Spirit implores us to do, even if for a while we have to hold back from actually physically kissing one another. But the point still stands, doesn't it? It does indeed. Christ offers us that kiss today. Go ahead and receive it. Allow yourself to receive that. You might cringe at first at the thought for a whole host of reasons, but just take a moment, will you, and receive God's kiss, God's embrace of you. May it be so. TODAY'S PRAYERS: Lord God Almighty and everlasting father you have brought us in safety to this new day preserve us with your Mighty power that we might not fall into sin or be overcome by adversity. And in all we do, direct us to the fulfilling of your purpose  through Jesus Christ Our Lord amen.   Oh God you have made of one blood all the peoples of the earth and sent your blessed son to preach peace to those who are far and those who are near. Grant that people everywhere may seek after you, and find you. Bring the nations into your fold, pour out your Spirit on all flesh, and hasten the coming of your kingdom through Jesus Christ our Lord, Amen.   And now Lord,  make me an instrument of your peace.  Where there is hatred let me sow love. Where there is injury, pardon.  Where there is doubt, faith. Where there is despair, hope.  Where there is darkness, light.  And where there is sadness,  Joy.  Oh Lord grant that I might not seek to be consoled as to console. To be understood as to understand, to be loved as to love.  For it is in the giving that we receive, in the pardoning that we are pardoned, it is in the dying that we are born unto eternal life.  Amen And now as our Lord has taught us we are bold to pray... Mary and Joseph most likely found shelter with relatives who didn't have space in the guest room, so Jesus was born in the main family area, not in a crowded stable. Furthermore, Lee debunks the myth that Bethlehem was bustling with commercial inns; hospitality was so valued in that culture, it would be unthinkable to turn away a pregnant woman.Miracles, by definition, are acts of God that transcend natural laws; if we accept the existence of a Creator, then miracles like the virgin birth become logically possible. Prayer remains a powerful connection to God's supernatural work. Modern research, such as documented healing events in places like Mozambique and Brazil, shows that miracles often accompany breakthroughs of the gospel.The Holy Spirit continues to work beyond cultural and political barriers, using dreams, visions, and supernatural encounters to reveal Jesus. Lee's book "Seeing the Supernatural" and testimonies from the Middle East reveal how God uses dreams and visions to reach people, especially in closed countries. The problem with simple verses is they tend to go in one ear and out the other. That's where Christian meditation comes in. You focus your mind on envisioning that simple verse and then suddenly it becomes a powerful image for you. I think that's true of this verse. Jealousy has been defined as “resenting God's goodness in others' lives and ignoring God's goodness in my own life.  Jealousy is an enemy of our hearts because it causes a lack of contentment and gratitude toward God.Main Points:1. Jealousy can lead us to become angry, bitter, and unforgiving. It can lead us to gossip, lie, or be malicious. Jealousy can lead us to steal, commit adultery, and even murder. 2. The cure for a heart struggling with jealousy is to resist the temptation to compare yourself with others.3. This Sunday, Pastor Suzy Silk continued our Advent series, He Shall Be, with a teaching on the significance of Jesus as the Messiah, reminding us how Advent and Hanukkah point us back to God's faithfulness and His promise-keeping nature, even in fearful and anxious times. Jesus is the Messiah whom God had long promised, perfectly accomplishing what no earthly king could and fulfilling dozens of specific Old Testament prophecies. Because God is the Lord of history and has proven Himself faithful time and time again, we can trust Him with our futures. Pastor Suzy invited us to lift our eyes above the chaos into a long-term perspective focused on God's faithfulness and to remember that the antidote to anxiety is not answers but the person of Jesus—resting in the certainty that the Messiah has come and will come again.

Read Online“What is your opinion? A man had two sons. He came to the first and said, ‘Son, go out and work in the vineyard today.' The son said in reply, ‘I will not,' but afterwards he changed his mind and went. The man came to the other son and gave the same order. He said in reply, ‘Yes, sir,' but did not go. Which of the two did his father's will?” Matthew 21:28–31Jesus addressed this question to the chief priests and elders of the people. As the passage continues, Jesus humbles them by saying, “Amen, I say to you, tax collectors and prostitutes are entering the Kingdom of God before you.” He explains that the chief priests and elders of the people were like the second son. They gave lip service to God's commands but failed to humbly repent and obey.The fact that “tax collectors and prostitutes” were entering the Kingdom of God should give us great hope. No one is beyond God's mercy if they humbly listen to Him, repent, and begin to obey. Though neither son's response is ideal, hopefully we are more like the first son.When we hear God's Word and understand His continuously deepening call to holiness, we will find it challenging. Often, our first reaction to a deeper revelation of the Gospel is “No!” Our sinful habits are hard to break, and our fallen human nature is difficult to align with God's will. Don't be surprised if you find God's will initially challenging.As God's voice and His will become clearer, our first response must always be repentance. This should not surprise us. We must learn to build a habit of repentance if we want to grow closer to God and live His will. Initially, we often react to repentance in a negative way, but we shouldn't. Though we might be like the first son and say “no” when God calls us to obedience, if we build a habit of repentance, then we will eventually find great joy in that act. Over time, we will find that our response becomes “Yes, I will go,” and then we go, having discovered the value in obedience.Reflect today on whether you often pay lip service to God, pretending to do His will, or if you regularly experience God's call to repentance on a deepening level. Identify yourself with the repentant tax collectors and prostitutes, and imitate their humility when they were confronted with their sins. Know that repentance is the beginning of freedom and is the first step toward greater unity with God. My demanding Lord, every command You issue is a command of love. Though obedience to You is often initially challenging, help me to see the great value in it. Give me the courage and fidelity I need to hear Your voice, repent of my sin, and obey You in all things. The True Definition of “Preside” by Autumn Dickson The Family Proclamation turned 30 this year. It is a document that teaches about God's plan for families. Though many believe it to be outdated, I testify of its ongoing relevance. Its principles hold truth that can protect and save. If everyone went home and tried to follow the principles within this document, society would evolve overnight. As I approach some of these principles in this post, it's important to note that The Family Proclamation is the ideal. None of us are going to reach the ideal on this side of the veil, but we still teach the ideal. Sometimes teaching the ideal has the undesirable side effect of making us feel discouraged. We cannot afford to let that take hold in our lives. Satan would love to take the ideal and twist it so that it crushes us, and we get to decide whether we let those feelings into our lives or whether we hold on to the hope that is Jesus Christ. So, like the Family Proclamation, I want to try and teach the ideal. Your circumstances may not allow the ideal. How you grew up may not have even afforded you a glimpse of the ideal, but consciously choose how you're going to look at this ideal. You can look at it and wonder if God doesn't love you because you don't have that ideal, you can feel hopeless about ever reaching that ideal, OR you can tell Satan to back off. God teaches the ideal so you can strive for it, but God also teaches the ideal because He's trying to give you a glimpse of His promises to you. He is saying, “This is what I want for you because I love you. This is what you were always meant to have. This IS what you will have if you hold on.” So let's talk about one of these truths with that understanding. One of the truths that is often mocked and twisted is regarding fathers. By divine design, fathers are to preside over their families in love and righteousness and are responsible to provide the necessities of life and protection for their families. There is a lot that we could dissect in that one sentence, but I'm going to pull out one of the first phrases. Fathers are to preside over their families in love and righteousness. “Preside” is the troublesome word in the eyes of the world. According to the dictionary, the word “preside” means to be in a position of authority so when we use this word, we often picture a home where the father gets the final say on any decision. Even when a husband loves his wife and listens to her honest opinion, it doesn't feel good to think that the man still gets the final say, and that's it. Is that really the end of the story? Even when he loves and listens to his wife, there are still moments where her perspectives go unheard because apparently it's divinely appointed. Then, there's the pressure that gets placed on the man for this kind of responsibility. No longer does he have a true partner to share life with. He carries it all because it ultimately falls on him. There have been a lot of things in the gospel and church that haven't always felt perfect or right when I've originally learned about them. I've learned that if I trust God and keep going, I've been led to answers from Him. It has been no different with this particular principle. If you keep reading in The Family Proclamation, you come across this line as well. In these sacred responsibilities, fathers and mothers are obligated to help one another as equal partners. This is our first hint that maybe we don't fully understand what we're reading. How can two people be equal partners if one person always gets the final say unless it's specifically “given” to the other partner? So which part am I reading wrong? Which part don't I understand? Is it the “equal” part or the “presiding” part? As I've pondered this particular question, I had a thought come to my mind. If I truly want to have the family that the Lord wants me to have, I have to ignore the world's meaning of the word “preside” and embrace what the Lord means by the word “preside.” This isn't just me trying to skirt my way around a difficult issue. It's not me doing mental gymnastics to try and make sense of it. Look at the Lord. The Lord presides differently than the rest of the world. He is the ultimate presiding officer and yet, we didn't see Him going around and making demands. We didn't see Him silencing good people and ignoring the opinions of others. He certainly wasn't disregarding the women in His life in the name of presiding officer. One of the foremost characteristics of Christ's life was His desire to serve. He devoted His life to securing what was best for everyone around Him. He was the ultimate presiding officer, and He was also the ultimate servant. Perhaps in the eyes of the Lord, presiding means the first person to step up and serve everyone around them. Presiding meant making decisions sometimes, but it also meant encouraging others to step up and lead. Presiding meant washing feet; it meant laying down His life, not putting His life above all others. Presiding, according to the Lord's interpretation, also means lifting everyone. The ultimate purpose of our Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ are to bring about our immortality and eternal life. They want to lift us to where They are. It's not about controlling us and forcing us to do what they think is best. It's about meeting us where we're at and trying to lift us so that we can be as good and wise and loving and happy as They are. I hold no issue with this definition of my husband presiding in my home. I testify that the gospel holds up on closer inspection. Things that may seem troublesome or off can stand up to the light when we look at it with Christ. I testify that Heavenly Father has a plan for our families. I testify that His plan is based on serving each other and lifting each other, not ruling over each other. Autumn Dickson was born and raised in a small town in Texas.
