Love is one of the most familiar words in Scripture—and one of the most challenging to live out. Jesus summed up God’s greatest commandments with a simple directive: love God fully, and love your neighbor as yourself. It sounds straightforward, but the devotional reminds us that biblical love isn’t driven by convenience, comfort, or emotion. It’s a choice rooted in humble obedience, and it often runs directly against the way the world defines love. Loving your neighbor feels easier when your neighbor is kind, friendly, and considerate. But what about the difficult ones—the person who seems cold, critical, loud, inconsiderate, or perpetually unpleasant? This devotional gently confronts that reality and turns the mirror back toward us: sometimes we are difficult to love too. And sometimes our struggle to love others is connected to an even deeper struggle—forgetting what God says about us, and failing to receive His love and truth in a way that shapes how we see ourselves. The devotional emphasizes that loving our neighbor flows from loving God first. When we seek Him with our whole heart, He steadies our identity and reminds us of what is true: we are made with intention, set apart, loved, forgiven, and made new in Christ. That truth reshapes our internal posture—reducing insecurity, comparison, harsh judgment, and self-protection. And from that renewed place, we’re better equipped to treat others with patience, kindness, humility, and compassion. Loving a difficult neighbor doesn’t mean excusing harmful behavior or ignoring real boundaries. It means choosing to see them through the lens of mercy and grace, asking God to revive love in us, and responding in a way that honors Him. When we stay tuned to God’s voice and anchored in His love, we can love others—not because they deserve it, but because we’re reflecting the love we’ve received. Healing and miracles are part of God's redemption story for us. Kristin’s son had died from cancer when he was just seven. Now, three years later, her older son was being diagnosed with a terminal illness. Friends who were not believers in Jesus grieved with her, but they couldn’t understand why she continued to trust Christ. “How could your God allow this? Why keep believing in Him?” they asked. For Kristin, however, it was an even stronger reason to keep believing. “I don’t understand why this is happening,” she said, “but I know God will help us through this. Only God can give me hope to keep going.” Such a hope and trust kept King David going when he found himself in overwhelming circumstances. Surrounded by enemies seeking his destruction, he probably couldn’t understand why all this was happening to him. Yet he knew he was following a God he could trust to deliver and bless him in His time (Psalm 31:14-16). This certain hope enabled him to keep submitting to God and to say, “My times are in your hands” (v. 15). And it uplifted him, such that he could also say: “Be strong and take heart, all you who hope in the Lord” (v. 24). In times when we feel overwhelmed and there seems little to look forward to, we know we can hang on even more tightly to God and the life-giving hope He alone provides.

Read Online“And some seed fell on rich soil and produced fruit. It came up and grew and yielded thirty, sixty, and a hundredfold.” He added, “Whoever has ears to hear ought to hear.” And when he was alone, those present along with the Twelve questioned him about the parables. Mark 4:8–10The Parable of the Sower is one of Jesus' foundational teachings. When preaching from a boat to a large crowd, Jesus used parables to reveal the mystery of the Kingdom of God. Afterward, His disciples questioned why He spoke in veiled language rather than directly. Jesus responded, “The mystery of the kingdom of God has been granted to you. But to those outside everything comes in parables, so that ‘they may look and see but not perceive, and hear and listen but not understand, in order that they may not be converted and be forgiven'” (Mark 4:11–12).At first, this response might seem perplexing. Why would Jesus teach in a way that some would not understand, potentially hardening their hearts further? To understand this, we turn to the Prophet Isaiah, whom Jesus quoted (cf. Isaiah 6:8–13). God commissioned Isaiah to preach to a people who were stubborn and unrepentant, saying they would “look and see but not perceive” and “hear and listen but not understand.” Despite Isaiah's zeal, God permitted their hardness of heart so they could face the consequences of their refusal to repent. This prophetic action sheds light on Jesus' use of parables.God “wills everyone to be saved and to come to knowledge of the truth” (1 Timothy 2:4). However, for those who refuse His Word, God sometimes permits their obstinacy as an act of mercy. Parables serve a dual purpose. For those open, they invite reflection and reveal deeper truths that lead to greater faith. For those closed, parables expose their resistance, deepening their awareness of spiritual emptiness. This process, though painful, is a merciful act, meant to confront individuals with the consequences of their sin and lead them to repentance.The Parable of the Sower, in particular, invites us to examine the “soil” of our own hearts. God, in His generosity, spreads the seed of His Word widely, offering grace and Truth to everyone. What kind of soil are you? Are you like the path, where the Word is quickly devoured by distractions, pride, or indifference, leaving no room for growth? Are you like the rocky ground, receiving the Word with enthusiasm but lacking the roots to endure trials and tribulations? Or are you like the thorny ground, where worldly anxieties, the lure of riches, and divided priorities choke the Word before it can bear fruit?Ideally, we are none of the above. Jesus calls us to cultivate rich soil—a heart receptive to His Word, where His grace takes root and bears abundant fruit. Only when we are receptive to grace and nurture the truths we have received through fidelity can we see God's Word flourish in our lives.This parable also teaches us how to respond to those who appear closed and obstinate. It is tempting to grow discouraged or angry and give up. But that is not what Jesus did, nor is it what Isaiah did. Isaiah fulfilled his mission to preach, even to those who rejected him. Similarly, Jesus continued to preach, using parables to reach all people, knowing that rejection would come. Reflect today on the soil of your heart and the hearts of those whom you are called to evangelize. Through prayer, nourish the Word of God within you so it can bear fruit. Persevere in sharing God's Word with others. When Isaiah asked how long he should continue preaching, God responded, “Until the cities are desolate, without inhabitants, Houses, without people, and the land is a desolate waste.” In other words, do not stop, even in the face of rejection. Even when all hope seems gone. Sow the seed of God's Word faithfully, trusting that even the hardened soil of obstinate hearts can one day bear good fruit. My relentless Lord, You sow Your Word with superabundant generosity, showering Your Truth upon all in the hope of their repentance. Grant that I may be among those who listen attentively, cherish Your Word, and nourish it within my heart. As my faith takes root and grows, use me as an instrument of Your grace to reach out to others, tirelessly sowing Your Truth in those You have entrusted to me. Strengthen me to persevere in this mission until the end of my days on earth. They looked at him intently—not with eyes of pity or indifference, but with the same eyes Jesus had for those who were hurting and in need. They saw him, really saw him. In that moment, Peter didn't offer silver or gold. Instead, he offered something far greater: the life and power of Jesus. "In the name of Jesus Christ the Nazarene, get up and walk." This was no transaction. This was not about what the man could earn, believe, or accomplish on his own. It was a declaration—a gift rooted entirely in Christ: who he is and what he has done. So often, we can see ourselves in that beggar at the gate—waiting and hoping, feeling unseen and unworthy, longing for scraps when Jesus is offering wholeness. The good news is, the Gospel is not a sales pitch or an exchange. It doesn't depend on what we put forth, but on what Christ has done. He reaches down, takes us by the hand, and invites us to stand—fully loved, fully included in God's covenant promises. You are not a beggar at God's table. You are his beloved child, meant to walk upright, embraced by the love of the Father. Let Jesus look into your heart today. Let him lift you up. Walk confidently in the reality of who you are in Christ. This is not just for a select few—it is for you, for your family, for all who would receive him. The life that is being given to you, in Jesus, is not about merit but about his finished work and his love that calls you by name. That is my prayer for my own soul. That is my prayer for my family, for my wife, my daughters, and my son. And that is my prayer for you. May it be so. During Sunday school, my patience with three-year-old Peter was wearing thin. He was unhappy, unkind to the other kids, and absolutely refused to be content, even when we offered him the most coveted toys. My pity turned to annoyance. If he stubbornly persisted in being difficult, then fine, I’d send him back to his parents and he would miss out on all the fun. Too often I find my compassion has conditions. If someone ignores my advice or refuses my help, then they don’t deserve it anymore. Fortunately, God doesn’t act that way toward us. The prophet Jonah experienced His great mercy after a time of stubborn disobedience when God commanded him to travel and preach to Nineveh. Defiantly choosing the opposite direction, Jonah was caught in a terrible storm, set adrift at sea, and then swallowed by a great fish—a self-made disaster. When Jonah finally “prayed to the Lord his God” (Jonah 2:1), God was still listening to him, ready to forgive His reluctant prophet. Jonah was delivered from the fish and graciously given a second chance to go to Nineveh (3:1). In little Peter’s case, a special trip to the playground consoled him—a brilliant and kind idea by a helper with more patience than I had shown. How beautiful is mercy that continually seeks us out, even in the middle of our own mess.

Is it as big as the Red Sea? Or maybe it's just a small pond, but the waters in that pond are bitter. What is standing in your way? What keeps you from moving forward? Where are you stuck? In today's story, the people of Israel were stuck. When they stared out over the impossibility of that giant Red Sea, they were stuck. And when they stared into that small little pond called Marah, they were stuck. In both cases, they faced seemingly insurmountable obstacles, and in both cases, God found a way to move them through what was standing in their way. And when God delivered them, there was dancing, worship, and song. They sang and danced because God delivered them by taking them across the Red Sea, saving them from Pharaoh's army. But only three days later, it wasn't the Red Sea anymore—it was a small, bitter pond. There, their song turned into complaint. Rather than looking to God, they looked for someone to blame. That's a picture of our own hearts. Our singing can so quickly turn to blaming. Yet God has nothing to apologize for. He promises to bring us out of bondage and into the land of promise. The real obstacle is not the sea or the bitter water—it's our own hearts. It's about whether we will see God for who he really is: a God who sees us, fights for us, delivers us, and makes good on his promises. Will we see ourselves as ransomed, delivered, no longer slaves but God's very own possession? At Marah, God showed Moses a tree—a healing tree. God told him to throw the tree into the bitter waters, and the poison was absorbed. Healing was released. The picture is clear: God, in his great love, knowing our tendency to despair, provided a healing tree—a foreshadowing of the cross, where Jesus absorbed our poison and released his life into us. God's answer for our heart is himself, offered for us on the tree. He makes a way through the impassable, so humanity can be released into true life. This life is meant to be lived in faith, trusting the God who is good, believing that he has truly transformed us through his great act of deliverance and love. We are no longer slaves, but his. The healing life of that tree is for you, right now, today. My prayer is that I'll see this by faith, that I'll hold on to this gift as I read and reflect on my life. That I will possess the one who has possessed me. That I'll adore him, worship, sing, and even dance. And that's a prayer that I have for my own soul, for my family—for my wife, my daughters, and my son—and that's a prayer that I have for you. May it be so. TODAY'S PRAYERS: Lord God Almighty and everlasting father you have brought us in safety to this new day preserve us with your Mighty power that we might not fall into sin or be overcome by adversity. Revelation, Submission, Sacrifice by Autumn Dickson For this week, we get to read more about Adam and Eve and their posterity. While reading about this posterity, we find a really beautiful summary of how to live. It is so simple and yet so profound. Moses 6:3 And God revealed himself unto Seth, and he rebelled not, but offered an acceptable sacrifice, like unto his brother Abel. And to him also was born a son, and he called his name Enos. I want to take it one phrase at a time. God revealed Himself to Seth. Seth didn't rebel. Seth offered an acceptable sacrifice like his brother did. Though this is about the personal life of Seth, there is a pattern that all of us can follow. First, God revealed Himself. It is not enough to try and interpret the bible perfectly. You can't. It's not possible for man to interpret it correctly even if it had been translated perfectly. God has to reveal Himself and the truth concerning why we are here and how we get back. You can't go to school and have other people teach you about God because they have studied a ton. No matter how hard you think or how long you ponder, it is insufficient unless God chooses to reveal Himself. He does this through a variety of ways. He reveals Himself through His prophets. He teaches us as we're reading the bible. He teaches us as we listen to other people, but we have to remember that He is the one who gives us the information. Then comes the next part. We decide what to do with it. Seth rebelled not. Honestly, it reminds me of something that I read about the Tower of Babel. One of the reasons that God was so frustrated with the people in relation to the Tower of Babel was because He had told them how to reach Him. These people were descendants of Noah's sons after the flood. Noah walked with God, and so it's easy to assume that these descendants had been given a knowledge of how to form a relationship with God. We do not know exactly what this looked like. We know that after Moses, there were more extensive ordinances contained in the Law of Moses that helped the people reach for God. In our day, we likewise make covenants and perform ordinances in order to reach Him and develop a relationship with Him. I'm not sure what it looked like in Noah's day, but these people had a prophet and it was likely that they had oral traditions to lead them along. Unfortunately, they rebelled. They didn't want to reach God in that way. They wanted to do it how they wanted to do it, and they ended up with chaos and confusion. Through modern-day prophets, God has revealed how we can draw closer to Him. These avenues are not exclusive; they're available to everyone who wants them. Some have had incredible experiences with the gospel but have chosen to only accept some avenues of closeness. Some believe they don't need these extra things in order to draw closer to Christ rather than gratefully receiving any options He gives us to think of Him and follow Him. I think of Cain and Abel. Cain was mad that God didn't accept his crops even though God had asked him for a lamb originally. Cain only wanted to give what Cain wanted to give. And when God didn't accept it, he was angry. Interestingly enough, God didn't ask for a lamb for fun. It was very specific and meant to help Cain understand Christ. Cain missed the memo. If you've had good experiences with the gospel, I can promise that accepting all of the gospel will only bring more goodness. Don't rebel against it. Give it a chance, soften your own heart and see if God doesn't bless you. Then there is the last portion of this pattern that we'll talk about today. Seth offered an acceptable sacrifice like his brother. I love this part. We can offer acceptable sacrifices like our Brother. There is much to be said of sacrifice, but I want to focus on one specific principle here. The Lord asks for specific sacrifices. There are general ways that we draw closer to Christ through ordinances and covenants, but there will also be very personalized sacrifices that the Lord asks us to make. Christ had a very tailored sacrifice to give. It was perfectly picked just for Him. There are very tailored sacrifices we will be asked to make. They are tailored in two ways: how we can give and how they can bless us. Some of them are because God gave us gifts and expects us to use them to bless others. In ancient times, the oldest brothers received an extra portion in order to take care of the mother and sisters. Each of us have received some kind of specific extra portion, spiritual gifts that are not given to everyone. We are expected to take care of those who don't have what we have. It is completely fair for Heavenly Father to ask us to give when He has given us more precisely for that purpose. We have also been given a responsibility to make specific sacrifices because of how they will bless us. They will mold us to be more like the Savior in the exact ways that we need. Just like the lamb wasn't random, our sacrifices don't need to feel random. They can refine us. I got pregnant 3 months after having a baby. My fifth child was born when my oldest was just six years old. I despise being pregnant. I'm grateful for it. My children are my greatest blessing, but I can't begin to describe just how much I lose myself when I'm pregnant. Conner was out on the east coast every other week for work. I was overwhelmed and sick. My body was destroyed, and I still had a tiny baby that needed me so much. I had three other kids who also needed me, and I still felt the Lord telling me that I needed to keep sharing my testimony of Christ. There were a million lessons learned through this specific trial given to me. The Lord needed me to change in specific ways in order to step into the life I wanted for myself and my family. I let go and let my kids step up in ways that were powerful for them, a beautiful blessing that I would have never voluntarily given over. I miraculously finished my work and still got a desperately needed nap almost every day. Both of these specific lessons have set me up in exactly what I want for my life. Most importantly, I learned that God really is on my side. When I first found out I was pregnant again, I felt utterly betrayed. Believe it or not, we had taken some pretty intense measures to prevent pregnancy. This wasn't a mistake on our part. It was a definitive choice for the Lord. I had told Him that I wanted to wait a bit. There have been numerous times in my life that the Lord has chosen different for me than I chose for myself. I grumbled and fought it just like anyone else. Getting pregnant again and losing myself for 18 months instead of 9 months felt like more than I could bear. For the first time, I felt truly betrayed by God. I felt like He had completely ignored everything I had wanted for myself. I felt like He had ignored what I needed, that He didn't care what I needed. He was going to choose what He was going to choose. I knew logically that wasn't the case. I had experiences with God and knew He loved me, and maybe that's why it had been so painful. I had trusted Him, and this felt too far. It took some time, but I learned the tailored lesson He sent me. I turned my heart around and accepted the sacrifice that had been asked of me and just like with any sacrifice, it was for me. He was trying to bless me, and He did. I thought I trusted Him before. It multiplied after this last baby. The Lord tailors our sacrifices for us, and in the end, we make them acceptable by putting our heart into it. I testify that the patterns of the Lord are simple. I testify that He can guide our individual details in the midst of those grand patterns. I testify of a Lord who made an ultimate sacrifice and set an example for how we can draw closer to God. I testify that the scriptures can teach us of these patterns, and if we choose to accept them, He blesses us more than we can imagine. Autumn Dickson was born and raised in a small town in Texas. Day 2783 – Wisdom Nuggets – Psalm 108:1-5 – Daily Wisdom Wisdom-Trek Podcast Script - Day 2783 Welcome to Wisdom-Trek with Gramps! I am Guthrie Chamberlain, and we are on Day two thousand seven hundred eighty-three of our Trek. The Purpose of Wisdom-Trek is to create a legacy of wisdom, to seek out discernment and insights, and to boldly grow where few have chosen to grow before. The Title for Today's Wisdom-Trek is: The Warrior Poet's Remix – A Song of Cosmic Confidence Today, we are lacing up our boots to begin a new adventure in Psalm One Hundred Eight. We will be trekking through the first movement of this anthem, verses one through five, in the New Living Translation. In our previous journey, we stood at the summit of Psalm One Hundred Seven. We listened to the testimonies of the redeemed—the wanderers, the prisoners, the fools, and the sailors—who cried out to God in their trouble and were rescued by His Unfailing Love (Hesed). That psalm ended with a challenge to the "Wise": "Those who are wise will take all this to heart; they will see in our history the faithful love of the Lord." Psalm One Hundred Eight is the response of the wise heart. It is the song of someone who has observed God's history and has decided to move forward with absolute, unshakable confidence. But there is something unique about this psalm that we must understand before we take a single step. Psalm One Hundred Eight is a Remix. If you were to look closely at your Bible, you might notice something familiar. Verses one through five are almost identical to Psalm Fifty-seven, verses seven through eleven. And verses six through thirteen are almost identical to Psalm Sixty, verses five through twelve. King David, the master songwriter, took two of his previous songs—songs written during times of intense crisis and lament—and spliced them together. He cut out the parts about fear and crying for mercy, and he kept the parts about confidence and victory. He fused them to create a new, high-energy anthem for a new generation. This teaches us a profound lesson about wisdom and legacy. Sometimes, to face a new battle, you don't need a new revelation; you need to rearrange the truths you already know. You need to take the lessons learned in the caves of your past (Psalm Fifty-seven) and the battlefields of your history (Psalm Sixty) and combine them into a fresh declaration of faith. So, let us open our hearts to this "Greatest Hits" album of King David and learn how to sing with cosmic confidence. The first segment is: The Fixed Heart: Preparation for the Dawn. Psalm One Hundred Eight: verses one through two. My heart is confident in you, O God; no wonder I can sing your praises with all my heart!  Wake up, lyre and harp! I will wake the dawn with my song. The psalm opens with a statement of internal stability: "My heart is confident in you, O God..." The Hebrew word for "confident" is nakon. It means "fixed," "steadfast," "firm," or "prepared." It is the same word used to describe a foundation that cannot be moved.
