A friend’s wife, a master seamstress, made a loving plan before she passed away from a long illness. She donated all her sewing equipment to our town’s sewing guild, providing sewing machines, cutting tables, and more for classes teaching newly arrived immigrants. “I counted 28 boxes of fabric alone,” her husband told us. “Six women came by to pick up everything. Their students are hard workers, eager to learn a skill.” Others describe such newcomers in less flattering ways. The plight of even legal immigrants has become a divisive issue. Moses, however, issued God’s view. “Do not oppress a foreigner; you yourselves know how it feels to be foreigners” (Exodus 23:9). He further shared God’s decree regarding strangers. “When you reap the harvest of your land . . . do not go over your vineyard a second time or pick up the grapes that have fallen. Leave them for the poor and the foreigner. I am the Lord your God” (Leviticus 19:9-10). God also declared, “‘When a foreigner resides among you in your land, do not mistreat them. The foreigner residing among you must be treated as your native-born. Love them as yourself, for you were foreigners in Egypt. I am the Lord your God’” (vv. 33-34). God set the standard. May He bless our hearts to show love to the strangers among us.

Read Online“If you keep my commandments, you will remain in my love, just as I have kept my Father's commandments and remain in his love.” John 15:10When Jesus spoke the line above, He followed it by saying, “I have told you this so that my joy might be in you and your joy might be complete.” These two lines, taken side by side, provide a helpful unity of Jesus' teaching regarding holy obedience to Him.First, Jesus speaks of the necessity of keeping His commandments. To some, such a statement, when taken by itself, can seem burdensome, dictatorial, oppressive and confining. But is it? The answer is found clearly as we read on.The next thing Jesus teaches is that the effect of keeping His commandments is that we “remain in His love.” He further explains that He is not asking us to do anything that He Himself was not willing to do. He was obedient to the will of the Father, keeping the commandments of the Father to perfection. Therefore, we should hear His command as a dictate flowing from His own freely lived choice to be obedient. As the Incarnate Son of God, He perfectly obeyed the Father in His human nature. The result was that He remained perfectly filled with the love of the Father. But that's not all. Joy is also experienced in a “complete” way when we imitate Jesus' perfect obedience.In light of the teaching from our Lord, how do you view holy obedience to the will of God? Take, for example, each of the Ten Commandments. Do you struggle with unwavering obedience to them? Do you experience them as oppressive and imposed limitations rather than what they truly are? When understood correctly, the Ten Commandments, and every other dictate of the will of God, are exactly what we need and, even more so, exactly what we deeply desire in life. We want interior order rather than chaos. We want integrity rather than fragility. We want joy rather than sadness. And we want unity with the love of God rather than the loss of God. The path to the life we so deeply desire is obedience to the commands of the will of God in all things. Reflect, today, upon your immediate interior reaction to holy obedience. If you do find yourself resistant in any way to this teaching of Jesus, then that is a good sign that you need this teaching more than you may know. Try to look at obedience in the light of truth. Try to see that, deep down, your soul yearns for obedience and the interior order it brings. Examine, especially, any areas of obedience you struggle with and firmly recommit yourself to unwavering obedience to each and every command of our Lord. My obedient Lord, You obeyed the will of Your Father in Heaven to perfection. Through this obedience, You not only experienced the full love and joy of the Father in Your human nature, You also set for us a perfect example and model for holiness. Help me to see the areas of my life in which I need to be more obedient, so that I, too, will share in Your holy life and that of the Father's. Is it by doing more, avoiding more, knowing more? All of the religions of the world will lead you down one or all of these paths. You must do. You must avoid. You must know. But none of these paths end up being any good at answering the question of how we're made right with God. In the end, they are not good news, and you know that from your own life. When we give ourselves to trying to do more and more in order to justify ourselves before God, we soon begin to ask, well, how much more and how good is good enough? And that question leads to all kinds of pride and rules. And the rules never satisfy, and they never end. In the end, they make us either liars or delusional. Either we're pretending to be rule keepers when we're not, or we're believing that we've kept all the rules, but we haven't. And those that are closest to us can clearly see the truth: we are not as loving and pure as we say we are. No, doing more is not the answer, but neither is avoiding, trying to avoid our obligations to God. Living for the self, our desires, appetites leads only to an empty life. We become owned by the very appetites that we thought would set us free. And if doing and avoiding are not the answer, neither is knowing. God is not a subject to be mastered. He is the master, and we will not really know him unless we let him master us. The good news that we're looking for, to be made right with God, is found from start to finish by faith, we're told here. And that faith is a gift. That faith was lived out in him—in the life of Jesus. His faith, his obedience, his compassion, his love is what ultimately saves us. He saves us from start to finish. Galatians 2:20 says, I am crucified with Christ. Nevertheless, I live, yet not I, but Christ liveth in me. And the life which I now live in the flesh, I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me. And that is the good news, my friend. That is how we are made right with God. Our real life is hid with God in Christ from start to finish. Now we live by the faith of the Son of God who loved us and gave himself for us. Amen. May this be so for me, for my family, and for you. TODAY'S PRAYERS: Jesus is my shepherd. You have called me by my name into the life of the beloved. Here in the stillness, I remember that I am not alone. I belong to you and to the great communion of saints and sinners held together in your love. Remind me, Lord, that every breath is grace. Every encounter is a chance to give what I have received, mercy without measure. When I forget who I am, when I lose my way, Lead me again to still waters. Restore my soul. Renew my hope. I am Guthrie Chamberlain, and we are on Day 2635 of our Trek. The Purpose of Wisdom-Trek is to create a legacy of wisdom, to seek out discernment and insights, and to boldly grow where few have chosen to grow before. In today's Wisdom Nugget, continue our journey through the dynamic and multifaceted Psalm 68 in the New Living Translation. We've already seen God revealed as the powerful Divine Warrior, the compassionate Defender of the vulnerable, and the faithful Leader who guided Israel through the wilderness to His dwelling place in Zion. Now, as we move into verses 21 through 27, the psalm focuses on God's decisive judgment against His enemies and the glorious, triumphant procession of His people entering His sanctuary. This section contains vivid and powerful language, reflecting the ancient Israelite understanding of divine justice and the consequences of opposing the Almighty. It's a stark reminder that while God is merciful and compassionate, He is also just and will deal with wickedness. Yet, amidst the pronouncements of judgment, there is also the promise of restoration and a beautiful picture of the unity of God's people in worship. Let's delve into Psalm 68, starting with verses 21 through 23: (Reads Psalm 68:21-23 NLT) Surely God will shatter the heads of his enemies, the hairy crowns of those who go on in their guilty deeds. The Lord said, “I will bring them back from Bashan. I will bring them back from the depths of the sea, that your foot may crush them in blood, and the tongues of your dogs may have their portion from your enemies.”   Guthrie Chamberlain: The psalmist opens this section with a strong declaration of God's impending judgment: “Surely God will shatter the heads of his enemies, the hairy crowns of those who go on in their guilty deeds.” This is powerful, even confronting, language. In ancient warfare, striking the head symbolized a decisive and often fatal blow. The phrase “hairy crowns” might refer to the long, perhaps unkempt, hair of warriors from some enemy nations, or it could be a metaphor for their proud and untamed rebellion. Regardless of the specific imagery, the message is clear: God will utterly defeat those who are His adversaries, particularly those who “go on in their guilty deeds” – those who persistently and unrepentantly choose a path of wickedness and rebellion against Him. In the ancient Israelite worldview, God was seen as the ultimate source of justice. While they were called to seek justice in their own society, they also understood that there would be a time when God Himself would deal definitively with evil and those who actively opposed His righteous rule and harmed His people. This language, while strong, reflects that conviction – God will not allow wickedness to triumph indefinitely. Then, in verse 22, we hear a direct word from the Lord: “The Lord said, ‘I will bring them back from Bashan. I will bring them back from the depths of the sea.'” This verse is rich with symbolic meaning. “Pray in the Spirit at all times and on every occasion. Stay alert and be persistent in your prayers for all believers everywhere.” (Ephesians 6:18 NLT) All Christians experience times when we come face to face with overwhelming hardship. For Peter, it was witnessing the betrayal and arrest of Jesus in the Garden of Gethsemane. You can find the story in John 18. Peter simply could not stomach the thought of the Lord’s enemies taking Him away. Frustrated and in despair, Peter drew his sword in defense of his Lord and cut off the ear of one of the men who arrested Jesus (see verse 10). Of course, that’s not what Jesus wanted. The sword was not the answer to salvation. Poor Peter. He was always doing the wrong thing at the wrong time. He was sleeping when he should have been praying. He was talking when he should have been listening. He was boasting when he should have been fearing. And he was fighting when he should have been surrendering. His instincts were 180 degrees off. Peter failed to see that he was fighting the wrong enemy. As the apostle Paul points out in Ephesians 6:12, our enemies are not of flesh and blood. They are principalities and powers, and they cannot be defeated by ordinary measures. Too often we, like Peter, forget that ours is a spiritual battle that requires spiritual weaponry. And we neglect the most powerful weapon in our arsenal—prayer. We are too quick to protest or picket and not quick enough to pray. In his description of the armor of God available to believers to withstand and counter the attacks of our enemy, Paul concludes with this: “Pray in the Spirit at all times and on every occasion. Stay alert and be persistent in your prayers for all believers everywhere” (Ephesians 6:18 NLT). Pray at all times. Be persistent. Prayer isn’t just an emergency button we push when we can’t think of anything else to do. It’s an essential communication channel that links us to God, our source of strength, courage, wisdom, comfort, and peace. God supplies us with everything we need for our spiritual battles. But we don’t have to wait until we’re in the thick of the fight to call on Him. Jesus faced opposition throughout His ministry. Passages such as Luke 5:16 give us a glimpse into how He prepared for battle. “But Jesus often withdrew to the wilderness for prayer” (NLT). And when that opposition came to a head, Jesus headed for Gethsemane, a favorite prayer spot. The reality is that we all will face Gethsemanes in life. For Jesus, Gethsemane was a time of suffering and hardship, a time when He chose to surrender to the will of His Father. You, too, may face similar experiences in life that you don’t understand. You don’t know what lies ahead. But you can trust your unknown future into the hands of a known God. Reflection Question: How can you make your prayers more effective in your spiritual battles? (Adam@TheWorldview.com) By Jonathan Clark and Adam McManus British national Muslim fighters committed war crimes A recent report from the U.K. parliament found that hundreds of Islamic fighters have returned to England without facing prosecution. British nationals joined the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria between 2014 and 2019. The group targeted religious minorities and committed many war crimes. Since then, over 400 Islamic State fighters have returned to the U.K. However, the country's government has not prosecuted any of them for international crimes. Christians have faced high levels of persecution from Islamic fighters in Iraq and Syria. Both countries are ranked on the Open Doors' World Watch List of nations where it is most dangerous to be a Christian.  Ecclesiastes 8:11-12 says, “Because the sentence against an evil work is not executed speedily, therefore the heart of the sons of men is fully set in them to do evil. Though a sinner does evil a hundred times, and his days are prolonged, yet I surely know that it will be well with those who fear God, who fear before Him.” Trump to Putin: “When are we going to end this bloodbath?” U.S. President Donald Trump spoke with Russian President Vladimir Putin about the war in Ukraine on Monday. Trump said Russia and Ukraine would immediately start negotiations toward a ceasefire. He noted that the new Roman Catholic pope, Leo XIV, has offered to host the talks at the Vatican. President Trump warned that the United States would back out of the situation if both sides can't reach an agreement. Listen. TRUMP: “I said, ‘When are we going to end this Vladimir?' I've known him for a long time now. I said, ‘When are we going to end this blood bath?' It's a blood bath. I think it'd be great to have it at the Vatican. There's tremendous bitterness, anger, and I think maybe that could help some of that anger.” Trump dropped $37 million fine against Christian University The Trump administration dropped a $37 million fine against the largest Christian university in America Initially, Biden's Department of Education leveled the fine against Grand Canyon University. Brian Mueller, the president of the university, said, “The facts clearly support our contention that we were wrongly accused of misleading our Doctoral students and we appreciate the recognition that those accusations were without merit.” Ellen Keast, an Education Department spokeswoman, noted, “Unlike the previous administration, we will not persecute and prosecute colleges and universities based on their religious affiliation.” FDA discouraging young, healthy Americans from getting COVID shot On Tuesday, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration announced new rules for its approval of COVID-19 shots. The FDA said it will require more research before approving yearly COVID-19 boosters for young, healthy Americans.  The shots will still be approved for adults over 65 and for people with health problems that put them at higher risk. FDA officials noted, “The FDA will approve vaccines for high-risk persons and, at the same time, demand robust, gold-standard data on persons at low risk.” Man kills self, injured 4 outside in vitro clinic On Saturday, a car bomb was detonated outside an in vitro fertilization clinic called the American Reproductive Center in Los Angeles.  The blast killed 25-year-old suspect Guy Edward Bartkus and injured four other people. The in vitro fertilization facility was damaged, but the embryos stored inside were saved. Bartkus reportedly left behind a manifesto on a website. In it, he said he wanted to start “a war against pro-lifers” and “begin the process of sterilizing this planet of the disease of life.” Urge 19 Republican Congressmen to DEFUND Planned Parenthood Today, the House Rules Committee will have a hearing and vote on President Trump's “big, beautiful bill” to determine what budget items go to the House floor. If even a single amendment is added, the momentum we've built to stop funding Planned Parenthood and Big Abortion could vanish, reports Liberty Counsel Action. This is the last vote before the bill is placed on the House floor. Two conservative Republicans who voted “present” on Sunday night are also on the Rules Committee. The full House could vote on this bill as early as later today. Remember, there are 220 Republicans and 213 Democrats. Because the GOP majority is so slim, we need every one of them. Three moderate House Republicans are carrying the water for Planned Parenthood and pushing House leaders to continue funding the Murder Giant. Those three pro-abortion Republican Representatives include Mike Lawler (R-NY), Jen Kiggans (R-VA), and Brian Fitzpatrick (R-PA). These members are exerting significant pressure on House leadership to give up defunding Planned Parenthood and Big Abortion. We are on the cusp of victory, and we cannot allow this effort to fail. There are 19 key Republicans in leadership who need to hear from us. She was 91. In an announcement on the Precept website, her ministry said,  Kay “will be remembered for her love for the Lord, His Word, and His people.” A prolific author, Arthur wrote more than 100 books and Bible studies over her lifetime including her bestseller, Lord, Teach Me to Study the Bible in 28 Days.  ARTHUR: “People need to discover truth for themselves because God promises in His word that He has given us everything that pertains, not only to life, but also to godliness, so that we might be fitted for every good work, so that nothing can come our way and throw us. “God is doing a work in their lives because the only text that they are looking at is the Bible, which is alive and powerful and sharper than any two-edged sword. It's a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart. It is a light unto our path. It's the very Word by which we live. It's the Sword by which we stand against the enemy." She often said, “When you know what God says, what He means, and how to put His truths into practice, you will be equipped for every circumstance of life.” Through Precept's inductive Bible study method—teaching believers to observe, interpret, and apply Scripture—Arthur equipped millions around the world to study the Bible for themselves.  Indeed, the ministry was heard in 150 countries in 70 different languages. Saint Constantine was born in 272, the son of Constantius Chlorus, ruler of the western part of the Roman Empire, and St Helen. When his father died in 306 he was proclaimed successor to the throne. The empire was ruled at that time by several Caesars, each with his own territory. When Constantine learned that the Caesars Maxentius and Maximinus had joined against him, he marched on Italy. It was there that, on the eve of a decisive battle outside Rome, he saw in the sky a radiant Cross with the words "In this sign conquer." He ordered that a battle-standard be made bearing the image of a cross and inscribed with the Name of Jesus Christ. The following day he and his forces attacked and won a spectacular victory. He entered Rome in triumph and in 312 was proclaimed "Emperor of the West" by the Senate. (His brother-in-law Licinius ruled in the East.) Soon thereafter he issued his "Edict of Milan," whereby Christianity was officially tolerated for the first time, and persecution of Christians ceased. (Many believe, mistakenly, that the Edict made Christianity the only legal religion; in fact, it proclaimed freedom of religion throughout the Empire).   Licinius, though he pretended to accept the Edict, soon began persecuting Christians in his domain. In response, Constantine fought and defeated him in 324, becoming sole Emperor of the entire Roman Empire. In 324 he laid the foundations of a new capital in the town of Byzantium; in 330 he inaugurated the new capital city, naming it "New Rome" and "Constantinople." In 325 he called the First Ecumenical Council at Nicea, attending its sessions himself. Shortly before his repose in 337, he received Holy Baptism; he died on Holy Pentecost, at the age of sixty-five, and was interred in the Church of the Holy Apostles in Constantinople.   St Constantine's holy mother Helen, in her role as "Augusta" of the Empire, founded countless churches. She traveled to Jerusalem and found the True Cross on which the Lord was crucified. In the Holy Land she established churches at the sites of Christ's Nativity and burial, which still stand today in much-modified form. She died at about eighty years of age.

A big part is showing up - he explains how that can mean a lot of things. An entertainer at heart, he found part of that to be his gift that God will use. (40:28) Matthew also has some wisdom about being obedient (can be scary) and how that can make it clear we are on God's path. Fran has run into a neighbor who needs a friend, and although Fran had planned a quiet evening for herself, at Jesus' prodding, she gives Sue a call. "Hi, Sue, this is Fran. Listen, I don't have anything I have to do tonight. Why don't you come on over in a little while. The kids go to bed around 8:30 or 9:00. We'll have some time then to talk. I've got good ears, Sue, and I'm willing to listen," Fran invites Sue over. "Yeah, I'm sure; see you later,” Sue responds. As she hangs up the phone, Fran smiles. "You know, Lord, I didn't really plan to do that, but when I started thinking about Sue and how I'd feel if I were in her shoes, well..." Fran's voice trails off. "Yes, Fran, you just put on compassion. You have prayed that I would help you to be a compassionate person, so I just answered that prayer," Jesus tells her. "When you care about someone, when you feel compassion toward them, it's not so difficult to be a servant to them, is it?" "Oh, I didn't think of it as being a servant; I just wanted to help her. I hope I can," Fran replies. "True servanthood," he says, "is when you are a servant and don't even realize it. And that happened, Fran, as soon as you stopped thinking about how inconvenient it was and how you had a right to have a night all your own. Instead, you thought about Sue." "I get the picture, Lord," Fran replies. "Keep praying for compassion, keep putting myself in other's shoes, and day by day, you will answer my prayer and make me more like you—compassionate. It really is amazing to see how you can change me,” Fran says. She helps the kids with their homework, and as they're getting ready for bed, Sue knocks on the door. It turns out to be a late night for Fran, as Sue talks for several hours and pours out her hurt and pain from her broken relationship. Fran falls in bed about midnight, exhausted, praying for Sue as she goes to sleep. Jesus reminds her Sue is desperate for love. She doesn't know his love, so she's looking for it in a man. That happens a lot, doesn't it? She and Jesus talk a bit about Sue's dilemma, and before she knows it, Fran has reached for the phone and dialed Sue's number. Fran continues with Sue: "I'm sure this has been very hurtful for you, Sue. Sorry. I didn't know." "Well, maybe I could talk with you sometime when you have time. I know how busy you are..." Sue looks at Fran with hopeful eyes. "Of course, we'll get together soon, I promise," Fran replies, and with that they each head for the check-out stand.

During the Civil War, Southern states relied on salt perhaps even more than their Northern counterparts. The commodity preserved various foods—such as fish—and allowed more people to eat and even keep food supplied for a rainy day.As the Union troops began capturing Confederate saltworks, the food supplies there literally began drying up. It was one of the things that led to the end of the war, as food supplies literally not only lost their taste, but their preservative qualities. Things got so bad in the last 18 months of the war that some people were reduced to eating tree roots and other non-food vegetation. Not exactly an appetizing meal!Matthew 5:13 says, “You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled underfoot.”As ambassadors for Christ, we must make sure that our salt does not lose its effectiveness. We must stay alert, so the enemy doesn't steal the zest which makes our boldness in sharing Christ effective. Doing so requires vigilance and much prayer, consistently.Let's pray.Lord, we must be on guard against the enemy, who wants to keep us from sharing your Good News. Living Jesus: The Christian Journey Explained Today's Readings emphasizes the exclusivity and centrality of Jesus Christ in Christian faith. This means that while human nature longs for options and multiple paths, scripture is clear that there are only two ways: God's way and not God's way. The Homily underscores that Jesus is not merely a guide or teacher but the embodiment of the way, the truth, and the life. Faith in God is inseparable from faith in Jesus, who reveals God fully and is the fulfillment of all of God's work in history.
