It's that slow summer time for gaming news, and the bad news rings loud and clear. The Microsoft layoffs have rocked the industry, stopping some games while they were deep in production. The company claims everything in the 2025 Showcase is safe, but what about the games we didn't see? In good news, Stop Killing Games finds its footing after a rocky start. Plagued with misunderstood goals and dismissive assumptions, it seems the EU based initiative has finally taken off after finding its villain. FF14 pulled a weird thing in there cash shop. We spent the weekend playing MTG. All this and more. Supportourbromance.com or you'll be thinking about cheesecake.

From DOOM to StarCraft, Halo to Gears of War, developers across the industry have borrowed themes, visuals, and even entire factions from the Warhammer universe. We break it all down: the history, the aesthetics, and the undeniable influence of 40K on your favorite franchises. Did DOOM really copy Warhammer? Was StarCraft just a remix of the 40K factions? And why does everything in sci-fi feel just a little bit grimdark these days? Tap in—we're talking facts, history, and gaming culture with zero filters. AP Table Talk: Rock-Paper-ScissorsIn this episode of AP Table Talk, Brian and Dave dive deep into the timeless “rock-paper-scissors” (RPS) game mechanic. They explore its origins, its non-transitive nature, and how it shows up in everything from Magic: The Gathering to StarCraft and Skull King. From nostalgic toys like Battle Beasts to modern strategy in X-Wing Miniatures, the duo reflects on how RPS mechanics fuel tension, balance, and bluffing. Wrapping things up with a spirited pro/con debate, they explore whether RPS is genius design or just a flashy mini-game. Bonus round? Think predator-prey games and wasabi metaphors. The Fork In Your Ear Ep#195: Should You Choose To Accept.... Frankenstein Audio Version *Note Episode Recorded 5-31-25* In this episode of "The Fork In Your Ear," Tim and Nate dive deep into the world of gaming, kicking off with a humorous discussion about technical glitches and browser compatibility before moving onto their personal top 10 most-played games. Tim shares his meticulously tracked list, revealing surprising entries like Final Fantasy XV (a divisive choice he ardently defends, particularly praising its infamous secret dungeon) and Metal Gear Solid V (highlighting its open-world gameplay). He also breaks down his gaming hours across PvE, PvPvE, and PvP genres, revealing a significant lean towards PvE, despite his "Halo guy" persona. Nate, on the other hand, anticipates Destiny 1 as his likely top contender. The hosts lament the lack of comprehensive historical data from older consoles, particularly for classic titles like Halo and StarCraft. The conversation then shifts to recent video game news: Apple Arcade's First Studio Acquisition: Apple Arcade has acquired the two-person team behind Sneaky Sasquatch, marking their first game studio purchase. Tim expresses skepticism about Apple's claim that this isn't the start of a trend, speculating on a potential rebranding or platform launcher for Apple Arcade. Fortnite Returns to iOS: Fortnite is back on Apple devices, with impressive performance and optimization for older iPhones. The hosts praise Epic Games' granular installation options, which allow players to selectively download game components and even other players' skins. Randy Pitchford's $80 Game Comment: Gearbox Studios CEO Randy Pitchford's controversial remarks about game pricing ignite debate. While acknowledging the tone-deafness, Tim and Nate discuss the context of his statements and the evolving pricing models in the gaming industry, with Nate offering his ideal pricing structure for different game types (standalone, with monetization, MMO, PvP). Anti-Cheat in PvP Games: The hosts delve into the persistent problem of cheating in PvP games. As a Rainbow Six Siege player, Tim commends Ubisoft's innovative "Mouse Trap" and "Shield Guard" anti-cheat systems, which actively penalize cheaters with increasingly severe input lag and segregated matchmaking. Nate expresses his desire for other developers to adopt similar robust anti-cheat measures. Palworld's Legal Setback: Palworld lost a US lawsuit against Nintendo regarding specific gameplay mechanics. While the "ball-throwing" mechanic was deemed too similar to Pokémon, the ruling against "gliding with an animal" baffled the hosts, who pointed out its prevalence in other games. They ponder the implications of such legal battles for smaller studios against industry giants. How can AI help us understand and master deeply complex systems—from the game Go, which has 10 to the power 170 possible positions a player could pursue, or proteins, which, on average, can fold in 10 to the power 300 possible ways? This week, Reid and Aria are joined by Demis Hassabis. Demis is a British artificial intelligence researcher, co-founder, and CEO of the AI company, DeepMind. Under his leadership, DeepMind developed Alpha Go, the first AI to defeat a human world champion in Go and later created AlphaFold, which solved the 50-year-old protein folding problem. He's considered one of the most influential figures in AI. Demis, Reid, and Aria discuss game theory, medicine, multimodality, and the nature of innovation and creativity. Tune in for grounded and speculative takes on how technology—and, in particular, AI—is inspiring change and transforming the future. Hosted by Reid Hoffman and Aria Finger, each episode features an interview with an ambitious builder or deep thinker on a topic, from art to geopolitics and from healthcare to education. These conversations also showcase another kind of guest: AI. Each episode seeks to enhance and advance our discussion about what humanity could possibly get right if we leverage technology—and our collective effort—effectively.

BlizzCon 2026 could be the launchpad for a new StarCraft and major Game Pass integrations. The Punisher will be darker and more intense, addressing real-world themes of vigilante justice. Superhero movies are shifting from gritty realism to hope and inspiration, influenced by projects like Fantastic Four and Superman. Streaming's role in the superhero genre is growing, allowing more room for experimentation. Invincible Season 3 continues to deliver brutal action and deep storytelling, keeping fans hooked. Quotes from the Episode: "We're seeing superhero movies move away from the dark and gritty era—Superman and Fantastic Four are bringing back optimism." "BlizzCon skipping a year tells me something big is coming. New StarCraft? Maybe. But Game Pass integration seems like a no-brainer." "The Punisher has always been a controversial figure, but this time Marvel is taking a stance and tackling real-world issues head-on." "Invincible Season 3 just proves that adult animation can be just as impactful, if not more, than live-action superhero stories." Call to Action: Enjoy the episode? When Chinese AI company DeepSeek announced they had built a model that could compete with OpenAI at a fraction of the cost, it sent shockwaves through the industry and roiled global markets. But amid all the noise around DeepSeek, there was a clear signal: machine reasoning is here and it's transforming AI.In this episode, Aza sits down with CHT co-founder Randy Fernando to explore what happens when AI moves beyond pattern matching to actual reasoning. They unpack how these new models can not only learn from human knowledge but discover entirely new strategies we've never seen before – bringing unprecedented problem-solving potential but also unpredictable risks. These capabilities are a step toward a critical threshold - when AI can accelerate its own development. With major labs racing to build self-improving systems, the crucial question isn't how fast we can go, but where we're trying to get to.
