What happens when we take ACTION to find joy, connection and inspiration? From taking a vacation to going to see live theatre to getting emotionally invested in the livelihood of a bald eagle family (May is obsessed!), these are just some of the ways we are finding light in the darkness. But that's not to say May, Kelly and Tamlyn are ignoring the reality of what's happening around us. The key is to find the humanity in our stories, in art, in history, in nature, in life. And when we come together to share these experiences it's called "Collective Effervescence", a concept coined by Sociologist Émile Durkheim, to describe the feeling of intense shared emotional activation and a sense of unison that emerges when people come together and engage in a shared activity or experience. So join MKT in this episode as we share Collective Effervescence together. Show Notes:"Here there are blueberries" tickets (runs until 3/30/25thewallis.org"Cambodian Rock Band" tickets (runs until 3/23/25)eastwestplayers.org Please subscribe, rate and review us!And follow us on IG @shoesoffinsidemkt

In this engaging episode of the Stuck In My Mind Podcast titled "Activate Your Potential: Rick Tamlyn on Living Your Best Life," host Wize El Jefe welcomes Dr. Rick Tamlyn, an internationally renowned speaker, coach, and creator of the Bigger Game. Tamlyn's mission revolves around helping people design and live meaningful and impactful lives, a theme that resonates throughout the conversation. The episode begins with an intriguing discussion about the origin of the Bigger Game, a philosophy, and framework that Tamlyn developed over his 38-year career in personal growth and coaching. He describes it as an evolving concept, manifesting in various forms such as a book, workshop, a talk, and possibly a movie in the future. Rooted in the idea that the happiest people are those who are up to something bigger than they know how to create, the Bigger Game encourages individuals to view life as a game filled with opportunities. Tamlyn opens up about a pivotal moment in his life, sharing his personal journey of coming out as a gay man in the 1970s, navigating the AIDS crisis in New York City, and overcoming societal judgment and challenges. This personal struggle propelled him into coaching, leading him to become an advocate for helping others live authentically. Tamlyn emphasizes the importance of living a life aligned with one's values and shares insights on how to define and pursue what constitutes a great life. The episode delves deep into the elements of the Bigger Game, highlighting how people can push past fear and comfort zones to pursue their dreams and live out their potential. Tamlyn presents the nine-square Bigger Game board, which acts as a tool for assessing where individuals stand in their journey and what actions they need to take for growth. He articulates several foundational squares such as Hunger, Compelling Purpose, Gulp, Investment, Allies, and more, explaining how each plays a critical role in the game of life. Throughout the conversation, Wize El Jefe and Rick Tamlyn bond over shared philosophies and experiences. Wize reflects on his personal journey, opening up about his fears, losses, and eventually finding purpose and joy through podcasting. His story exemplifies the principles of the Bigger Game—embracing discomfort, confronting fear, and taking bold actions to make a meaningful impact. As the episode continues, Wize and Rick explore the concepts of living boldly, the importance of self-reflection, and ways to maintain motivation and inspiration when helping others achieve their dreams. Rick, drawing from his extensive experience, offers valuable insights into how people can uncover their life's compelling purpose through experimentation and reflection, advocating for trying different things to discover what truly resonates. The episode concludes with Rick emphasizing the importance of not worrying too much about what others think and embracing one's unique journey. His parting advice encourages listeners to play their own bigger games, live authentically, and continually strive for a more meaningful existence. Throughout the discussion, both Rick and Wize convey a shared commitment to impacting the lives of others, offering encouragement to anyone seeking to unlock their potential. Listeners of this episode are treated to an inspiring and heartfelt dialogue filled with practical wisdom from Rick Tamlyn's personal experiences and professional expertise. The conversation serves not only as a guide to living a fuller life but also as a testament to the power of personal transformation and intentional living.

This episode of "Shoes Off Inside" was originally supposed to be about how to mentally prepare for the new year ahead with the help of our guest psychologist Dr. Jenny Wang. But then, the cataclysmic LA wildfires hit and we knew we had to pivot. The destruction to homes, businesses and entire neighborhoods is so immense, it's difficult to truly understand the scale of loss. As of the date of this episode, more than 180,000 people have been displaced by the fires. More than 10,000 structures are damaged or destroyed. 11 human lives have been lost. Animals, both domestic and wild, have also been dramatically impacted. May, Kelly and Tamlyn speak with Dr. Wang about how we can all help each other through this unprecedented disaster and what each one of us can do to make a difference even in the smallest of ways. This was a way for us to share a space of comfort, compassion, sympathy and empathy. Thank to all the incredible first responders who are courageously putting themselves in harm's way to save others. At the end of the episode there is information about ways you can help. Here are links to organizations mentioned in the show:disasterassistance.govcalfund.org211la.orgsupportlafd.kindful.comcaninerescue.clubcoreresponse.orggofundme.com/c/act/wildfire-relief/californiahabitat.orgPlease subscribe, rate and review us!And follow us on IG @shoesoffinsidemkt

Ek is beslis 'n kansvatter so die liedjie pas goed by my persoonlikheid", vertel Tamlyn.

At the heart of this episode is the hotly debated issue of the "coddled" generation. These are Gen Z'ers and, now, Gen Alpha who have been overprotected by parents from the real world with all of it's challenges, pain, and dangers. But ironcially, these same kids have been severely underprotected from social media. According to psychologist and NYU professor, Jonathan Haidt, this combination has led to a multitude of problems including depression and self-harm as well as a complete lack of accountibility. Social media has created an entire generation of addicted "keyboard warriors", who hide behind their devices and say whatever they want without reprecussions. This behaviour manifests in other areas. May shares her firsthand experience as a university professor who has battled this lack of accountability among students. Recently, she was the target of unfounded incidenary remarks and when she asked for university support, it was rejected. May, Kelly and Tamlyn talk about the reasons behind this kind of hostile and evasive behavior, and what we can do to slow and, perhaps, even avert the further breakdown of civility. And on the lighter side, May has a very fun sneak peek of the first "Shoes Off Inside" swag! Our Kelly Hu just bought a home with plans for her parents moving in when the time comes so this hits close to home! Also, with more seniors, that means more senior scams! For many of you who have been watching and listening to this show, you've gotten to know May's Golden Retriever, Eggy, pretty well. She would often make cameo appearances during the show knowing exactly where the camera was. Eggy's story, like many rescue dogs, is amazingly touching and inspiring. On October 14 2023, Eggy crossed the rainbow bridge after nearly 16 years. May wanted to take a few minutes at the start of this episode to honor her fur baby and share Eggy's story. Tamlyn and Kelly join May after the memoriam to talk about Tamlyn's theatrical escapades with a run in East West Players production of  "Spring Awakening", which opens Oct. 29 in Los Angeles. Kelly gives us an update on her big move to Las Vegas and how her high school calvary came to the rescue! And May shares details about her recent engagement party and how she almost fell for the pressure of throwing a fancy, expensive, formal affair and, instead, chose a more personal route. The ladies of "Shoes Off Inside" took an unintentional break for part of the summer, but that's not a bad thing, especially for Kelly Hu, who traversed Europe, then felt the "burn" and mud at "Burning Man". Meanwhile, Tamlyn was busy attending and emceeing various events elevating the API and Japanese American communities. And May was gearing up for her new position as full-time professor at Chapman University's Dodge College of Film and Media Arts. The thing about taking a break is that SO MUCH HAPPENS during that time! So, there was A LOT to catch up on including the continuing Hollywood strike and the Maui Fires. But this episode also celebrates the boldness and courage of one API female entrepreneur, Janel Luu, Founder and CEO of Le Mieux. "Shoes Off Inside" LOVES spotlighting Asian women who don't let traditional stereotypes get in the way of going what we want the way we want to! Janel is living proof of that. We were proud to welcome Hugh Tamlyn, Director – Treasury & Prudential Risk at Beacon Search, onto the EMEA Recruitment podcast.  This episode focuses on our partnership with Operation Smile, the international medical charity delivering free surgery to children with cleft lip and palate. Hugh and Beacon Search are on a mission to fund 100 surgeries by raising £15,000 during 2023. To donate, please visit https://www.justgiving.com/campaign/beaconsearch100smiles2023. You can also follow Hugh on TikTok or Instagram to follow his journey - @hughtamlyn To start the episode, Paul Toms asks Hugh about the last thing that made him smile. Hugh smiles daily, but most recently visited India where he went on a safari and managed to see some tigers in the wild. He adds that his dog, Cooper, also makes him smile and reveals the humorous reason behind Cooper's name.  Uncovering the reasons why Hugh began a partnership with Operation Smile, he shares that he was born with a cleft lip and palate and, as he aged, he felt like he should contribute to the community and help others.  He began fundraising via a charity bike ride, which has adapted in length over the years and eventually cultivated in a corporate partnership.  Delving deeper, Hugh reveals that he didn't talk about his condition for several years up until his late 20s. Speaking about his differences more regularly helped him become confident in himself. He now provides a pathway for children and is happy to have conversations with parents, answer questions, and provide a level of support. Fundraising efforts ramped up after Hugh started his own company, allowing him to dedicate more time to training for events. For Hugh, partnering with Operation Smile made sense for several reasons – taking ownership of his condition, social responsibility, and a passion to give back. Both Paul and Hugh open up further about their experiences, the benefits of being open to people, touching on a more accepting world, and the importance of helping others, especially in the developing world.  Next, we find out Hugh's impressive agenda for future fundraising efforts:  Ford Ride London An indoor 100-mile challenge on a static bike in London Everesting Challenge - 8,849 meters of uphill cycling in South Wales Irish Ride Challenge - 100 miles a day for 15 days ending on 6th October (World Smile Day) at the Operation Smile office in Dublin London to Brighton - 60-mile bike ride  Hugh began cycling and racing between the age of 12-16 and later swapped cycling for rugby. It was only when he moved to Amsterdam four to five years ago that he integrated himself into the Dutch culture and took up cycling again.  The next bucket list challenge for Hugh may involve mountaineering - although he doesn't want to complete all seven summits and refuses to do Everest. Kilimanjaro has been on his list for a while.  Paul later shares EMEA Recruitment's fundraising activities and mentions our London Marathon fundraiser, which was completed by Associate Director, Neil Cope. Paul also gives a synopsis of the children's picture book he is creating and writing for Operation Smile.  Moving away from his charity efforts, Hugh discusses his career journey. He has always enjoyed working and helping people. Originally, he planned to do a football-related career in Wales, but he ultimately took a risk and moved to London, eventually joining a recruitment company. As the business grew, he helped set up an office in New York and, later, Amsterdam.  During COVID, Hugh felt confident in setting up on his own and has always been competitive, self-motivated and willing to take risks. So far, it has been a rollercoaster experience, but he is enjoying the process with a new challenge every day.  Paul shares EMEA Recruitment's backstory, which involved building the business alongside his wife using their personal networks and reputation, without having a business plan in place. Ultimately, EMEA grew, built on trust and an aligned mindset. Towards the end of the episode, Hugh shares his greatest achievements. He emphasises that there have been many small wins throughout his life. The opportunity to live and work in different places with different cultures was one of his greatest achievements, and completing the Irish Ride Challenge and raising funds for Operation Smile will be another.  You can follow Hugh's journey on social media @hughtamlyn  The episode ends with Hugh attempting to persuade Paul to get involved in the London to Brighton 60-mile cycle!    To find a particular part of the episode, please use the timestamps: 00:40 - Last thing that made Hugh smile 01:30 - The reason Hugh's dog is named Cooper 02:10 – Partnership with Operation Smile 04:20 - The turning point: Hugh accepting himself 07:25 - Confidence and bringing change 10:25 - The benefits of talking about experiences 13:05 - Hugh's fundraising activities 16:25 - When Hugh began cycling 19:20 - The next activity on Hugh's bucket list 20:40 - EMEA Recruitment's partnership with Operation Smile 23:20 - Becoming the owner of an international recruitment company 28:20 - Taking risks and Hugh's approach to opportunities 32:50 - EMEA Recruitment's backstory 35:15 - Hugh's greatest achievement 36:55 - Following Hugh's fundraising journey   We're proud to work with Operation Smile in bringing you the EMEA Recruitment podcast. EP 9 - "Vaginal Rejuvenation": Fact vs. Fiction with Dr. Cheryl Iglesia

The May Lee Show

Play Episode Listen Later May 5, 2023 62:24

“Vaginal Rejuvenation” is a term tossed around in movies, TV shows and social media, but how many of us actually know what it is? Some think it's all about nipping and tucking for better sex. Others think it's a procedure to beautify the outer and inner parts of female genitals for that “Barbie-effect”. But A LOT of us have no clue what vaginal rejuvenation entails. In general, it's a broad term that encompasses anything that alters the vulva (the external portions of the genitals) or the vagina (the internal portions of the genitals). But the truth is, any kind of vaginal treatment, both elective and non-elective, shouldn't be taken lightly and should be thoroughly understood from a medical perspective before diving in. There are a lot of false claims being made out there, especially since the business of vaginal rejuvenation is now a multi-billion dollar industry. May, Kelly and Tamlyn try and separate fact from fiction with the help of a leading expert in Urogynecology who specializes in female pelvic medicine and reconstructive surgery. Dr. Cheryl Iglesia knows what's going on “below the belly” and she has A LOT to say about how women need to rethink their perspective on their bodies and their sexual health. This episode is bursting with incredible information and, at times, some blush-worthy and squirm inducing moments, but it's all worth it! And many thanks to our very first show sponsor Le Mieux! We have a special segment how we care for and rejuvenate our skin so you'll want to stay tuned for those tips! TRIGGER WARNING: This episode contains sexual references that some might find disturbing. Netflix series "BEEF" came out of the gates in early April with such explosiveness that everyone who watched it was breathless, especially the API community who has been championing media representation that doesn't feed into stereotypes and tropes. But then, a story so disturbing and horrific resurfaced about cast member David Choe who plays Issac Cho in the series. His descriptive admission on his own podcast back in 2014 that he raped a massage therapist has sent shock waves every which way. But strangely, back in 2014 when his show aired, this graphic account of what Choe did didn't really go anywhere and clearly didn't impact his career. Will it be different this time? Will more people in Hollywood and beyond finally grow a spine and take a public stand against this kind of grotesque behavior or will the story just get swept under the rug again? There is so much suffering in silence by women...night sweats, insomnia, fatigue, brain fog, bloating, low libido. Did you know there are nearly 40 menopausal symptoms and yet, the treatments that are available are either unregulated or have been vilified by flawed medical studies. Well it's time to break free from the fear and shame, and get properly informed so women AND men will be more prepared for what's to come. Who better to guide us through the maze of menopause than Dr. Sherry Ross, celebrated Ob/Gyn, author and health expert. We live in sunny Noosa, Queensland and together as a partnership built to the level of National Vice President with Arbonne International. We hit a wall with Social Media, it became something we knew we had to do, but didn't enjoy doing. We were pretty lost to be honest… and were fed up trying to keep up with the high-flyers. So we made a decision that enough was enough and we became totally invested in learning everything we needed to know to grow our knowledge on Social Media. What happened in the process, is that we started to enjoy ourselves again, we started having fun, it was no longer a chore because we were connecting with our ideal audience. We stopped chasing the followers and realised that what mattered most was connection, the numbers do not determine your success, but instead the relationship does. We have learnt so much of what to do and what not to do and this is where “Tamdrewsocial” was born. In today's episode of Aromatic Chat, I get to have a conversation with Cynthia Tamlyn of Oilistic Aromatherapy. Born in Missouri, raised in Texas, and now living in Washington state, Cynthia specializes in working with children who have experienced trauma, and also in training allopathic providers in essential oil safety. Cynthia has always loved naturopathy, but did not get into aromatherapy until after adopting and bringing home a son from China. A survivor of childhood trauma herself, Cynthia recognized signs of undiagnosed pediatric PTSD in her son. She embarked on the journey of helping her son heal from the trauma, attempting several different types of treatment. Eventually, under the guidance of a naturopath, they started using aromatherapy with out realizing it, and finally found the kind of effect that they were looking for. Seeing these results, Cynthia decided to try using EOs to assist in her own trauma recovery, but, due to a lack of solid education, ended up inadvertently causing a seizure by using EOs that are unsafe for epileptics. She realized that there had to be reliable education surrounding essential oils, and embarked on her own journey to find it.Cynthia's personal story has lead to a deep passion for assisting trauma recovery, as well as providing EO safety training. In her own words, "A rattlesnake bite is natural, but no one wants to get bit!" - pointing out that just because it's natural does NOT mean it's safe to use without proper education.Tune in to this episode to hear us discuss the safety and legality of EOs, psychedelic psychotherapy, the interactions of EOs in everyday life, and the importance of learning self-advocacy!Links:https://lemonbalmcoaching.comhttps://oilisticaromatherapy.comhttps://facebook.com/oilisticaromatherapyhttps://instagram.com/cynthiatamlyn_ccaMusic by Adipsiahttps://bancamp.adipsia.comShow Notes by Verdant Heart Virtual Assistinghttps://verdantheartva.comRecorded 9/7/2020Support the show

All she wants from her mother is a friendship and for her to actually show her that she loves her. That reassurance is so important yet Tamlyn feels like her mother has never given her any of these. How Tamlyn and Woodtone Partnered to Produce Showstopping Materials with Tom Feret and Cale Kids

There is something about a design that can draw the eye. We often can't explain it, but we're drawn to an aesthetic or a certain item's look. For Tom Feret of Tamlyn and Cale Kids of Woodtone, the companies' partnership has done just that, with a Woodtone panel perfectly trimmed by a Tamlyn product at a recent trade show in Las Vegas turning plenty of heads. “(The panel) really pops in color. We wanted to promote that. We didn't want our trim in this case to overtake and be dominant. So, we chose a shadow effect using black anodized, which is very robust as far as longevity,” said Feret, the Sales Director at Tamlyn. “So, it actually created a shadow around that panel to let that panel really pop and sizzle. “It drew everybody's attention really well. It came off looking fantastic.” Of course, most trade shows currently are on hold because of the coronavirus pandemic, and both Feret and Kids say they've had to make some modifications to how they do business. Some of those effects, however, have had surprising positive benefits, such as taking the number of architects they can meet with from one or two at a time to 60 or 70 with online meetings. “It's that we're still able and have not felt the COVID effect like lots of industries,” said Kids, the sales manager for the state of Texas for Woodtone. “We believe the market is changing. Who would've thought a guy my age would've ever been able to get on a Zoom call?” But that's exactly what he and many others are doing, with the partnership creating showstopping materials continuing strong despite a pandemic.

Don’t forget! RSVP for Adobe & Teardrops’ 9th Anniversary livestream bash here! I was supposed to be in New Orleans this week but I’m still taking vacation! It’s our very first podcast crossover with Country Down Under! Country Down Under is a charming podcast from -- you guessed it -- Australia hosted by Tamlyn Butwell and Amy Wescott.  Each episode is a deep dive into a specific artist and their discography. Since both hosts self-identify as queer, they play my favorite game where they read queer subtext into a lot of these songs. The series also features some out queer country artists, too! This week is a deep dive into Troy Cassar-Daley, one of my favorite artists whom I’ve discovered thanks to CDU. Cassar-Daley is of aboriginal descent and his first hit, “Dream Out Loud,” is definitely the first country song with a didgeridoo. I also included “Black Mountain” for the same reason; also, it’s interesting to hear someone from outside the US provide commentary on our history, given our similarities with Australia.  Tamlyn and Amy provide more detailed shownotes here -- and of course you can find their playlist on Spotify. #61 Confrontation

Bruce Lee Podcast

When Bruce talked about confrontation he was talking about it on two levels, physical confrontation and then confrontations between people in everyday life. As you become ore rooted and secure in yourself, the natural tendency is to feel that you can more easily avoid confrontation, that you don’t need to prove yourself. What Bruce has learned from being challenged is: What is your reaction to being challenged? How does it affect you? If you’re secure then you treat it lightly. Part of being able to handle confrontation is self-work. “Wisdom does not consist in trying to wrest the good from the evil, but in learning to ride them as a cork adapts itself to the crests and troughs of the waves.” “The great mistake is to anticipate the outcome of an engagement, you ought not to be thinking whether it ends in victory or defeat.” A lot of times confrontation has nothing to do with you and has to do with the other person being wrapped up in something that triggers them. “A struggle of any nature can never be settled satisfactorily until the absolute fact is touched.” “See that there is no one to fight, only an illusion to see through.” “Intelligence, intelligence, is sometimes defined as the capacity of the individual to adjust himself successfully to his environment or to adjust the environment to his needs.” If there is a confrontation presented to you, you want to wait a beat before reacting. “Who is there that can make muddy water clear? But if allowed to remain still, it will become clear of itself. Who is there that can secure a state of absolute repose, but keep calm and let time go on and the state of repose will gradually arrest.” It’s not about what happens, it’s about your reaction to what happens. It’s not a sign of weakness to stay calm and not respond to someone who is be aggressive towards you, it’s a sign of strength and patience. “It’s not a shame to be knocked down by other people, the important thing is to ask when being knocked down, why am I being knocked down? If a person can reflect in this way, there is hope for the person.” Most of the time when Bruce was talking about confrontation, he was talking about physical confrontation. When someone is actually attacking you, you can discover your emotional response to confrontation, it’s an amplified reaction of how you feel in other non-physical situations of confrontation. “If you want to see an opponent clearly, you must throw away prejudices, likes, and dislikes, and so forth. Then, your mind will cease all conflict and come to rest, in this silence, you will see totally and freshly.” Take Action: Start with noticing your response to confrontation and conflict. What is going on within you? What can you learn about yourself? #AAHA Tamlyn Tomita is a Japanese born American actress. She made her acting debut in The Karate Kid Part II and was also in The Joy Luck Club, Four Rooms, and Day After Tomorrow. Recently, Tamlyn was in the news for standing up against the white washing that’s been happening in Hollywood. Tamlyn was sent a script that she found extremely offensive, and she spoke out publicly about how terrible the script was and how it used offensive Asian stereotypes for the characters. We think it’s awesome that she stood up for herself and her heritage, much in the way Bruce Lee did, especially because it’s difficult to get roles as a minority in Hollywood. We think you’re awesome Tamlyn! #BruceLeeMoment From listener Karen M.: “I have been struggling with Add/ADHD and dyslexia may entire life 55 years.
