Daily Meditation Our nation’s flag is more than a piece of fabric—it is a symbol of liberty, justice, and unity, echoing the values and sacrifices that built the United States. In this patriotic devotional, Lynette Kittle reflects on the historical and spiritual significance of the American flag, particularly as we commemorate Flag Day on June 14. Drawing from Isaiah 18:3 and the founding ideals of our country, this prayerful message reminds us that honoring the flag is also about honoring the godly principles of freedom, dignity, and truth that shaped the nation. Whether you come from a military family, a history-loving home, or are simply moved by the red, white, and blue, this devotional encourages you to pause and give thanks for what the flag represents—and for the God who grants true freedom.

While Andrew Jackson dismantled the Second Bank of the United States by withdrawing federal funds and vetoing its recharter, the Federal Reserve is a far more complex and entrenched institution, created by the Federal Reserve Act of 1913 with a perpetual charter.     Potential Steps Trump Could Take   Trump could work with Congressional allies to draft a bill transferring key Fed functions (e.g., monetary policy, bank supervision) to the Treasury. This might involve creating a new Treasury division or empowering the Treasury Secretary to oversee interest rates and money supply. Frame the Narrative: Like Jackson, Trump could rally public support by portraying the Fed as an elitist institution that prioritizes Wall Street over Main Street. He could argue that placing monetary policy under the Treasury ensures democratic accountability. Leverage Political Capital: With Republican control of Congress, Trump could prioritize this agenda, using budget negotiations or debt ceiling talks to pressure lawmakers. However, he'd need to overcome resistance from moderates and filibuster threats in the Senate. Historical Precedent: Before the Fed, the Treasury managed some banking functions (e.g., under the Independent Treasury System post-1836). Trump could cite this as a viable model, though it was abandoned due to inefficiencies. Executive Actions to Increase Treasury Influence:   Trump could nominate a Treasury Secretary and Fed governors who support closer alignment between the two entities. While the Fed chair cannot be fired mid-term without cause, Trump could appoint a like-minded chair when the current term ends (e.g., Jerome Powell's term as chair expires in 2026).  Trump could issue orders directing the Treasury to study or assume certain Fed roles (e.g., payment systems or debt management). While symbolic, such moves could signal intent and pressure Congress. Treasury-Fed Coordination: Trump could push for formal agreements (e.g., a revised Treasury-Fed Accord, like the 1951 agreement) to give the Treasury more say in monetary policy, short of full control.

Attorney General Pam Bondi and her Department of Justice lawyers said repeatedly that it was impossible to facilitate Abrego Garcia's return to the United States. Then, lo and behold, they arranged for Abrego Garcia's return to the US and waived around a two-count criminal indictment claiming that he's been involved in a criminal conspiracy from 2016 through 2025. In other words, if it's true, the first Trump DOJ let Garcia run a dangerous criminal conspiracy inside the United States with impunity during the entirety of Trump's first term. And, Garcia was in court in 2019 and the judge issued an immigration order that allowed him to reside in the United States to escape gang violence. During that hearing no conspiracy charges were brought. Merriam-Webster's Word of the Day

Merriam-Webster's Word of the Day for June 13, 2025 is: rambunctious • ram-BUNK-shuss • adjective Rambunctious describes someone or something showing uncontrolled exuberance. // On my first day of student teaching, I was tasked with managing a class of rambunctious youngsters. See the entry > Examples: "To juvenile loggerhead sea turtles, a tasty squid might as well be a disco ball. When they sense food—or even think some might be nearby—these reptiles break into an excited dance. ... Researchers recently used this distinctive behavior to test whether loggerheads could identify the specific magnetic field signatures of places where they had eaten in the past. The results, published in Nature, reveal that these rambunctious reptiles dance when they encounter magnetic conditions they associate with food." — Jack Tamisiea, Scientific American, 12 Feb. 2025 Did you know? Rambunctious first appeared in print in the early half of the 19th century, at a time when the fast-growing United States was forging its identity and indulging in a fashion for colorful new coinages suggestive of the young nation's optimism and exuberance. Rip-roaring, scalawag, scrumptious, hornswoggle, and skedaddle are other examples of the lively language of that era. Did Americans alter the largely British rumbustious because it sounded, well, British? That could be. Rumbustious, which first appeared in Britain in the late 1700s just after the signing of the Declaration of Independence, was probably based on robustious, a much older adjective meaning both "robust" and "boisterous."

    All Home Care Matters

Play Episode Listen Later Jun 12, 2025 39:08

All Home Care Matters and our host, Lance A. Slatton were honored to welcome Jill Couch as guest to the show.   About Jill Couch:   Jill's grandmother is her inspiration; her dad was her teacher. Both passed from this life with dementia. The DAWN Method taught Jill how to get it right with her dad. Jill is an Occupational Therapist who saw a different way to help in dementia when she began learning the DAWN Method.   About Better People Care LLC:   Jill founded Better People Care in 2018 when she began experiencing how the tools of the DAWN Method were helping her provide the right kind of care for folks experiencing dementia. Now, she and her team bring help and hope for many families in Northern Colorado. In addition, we specialize in training and coaching in the DAWN Method, care management, and healthcare advocacy for people living throughout the United States.   About the DAWN Method:   Here at the Dementia & Alzheimer's Wellbeing Network® (DAWN®), we've discovered something really special. We've found that although our clients lose some cognitive skills, they never lose all their skills. In fact, with dementia, we keep our primary thinking skills and continue to live in the present—fully able to enjoy beauty, positive emotions and companionship.   There are strengths in dementia, and both you and your loved one will benefit when you understand how to provide strength-based care. You will be able to keep your loved one home longer, with fewer conflicts, and your family will have less stress and expense. What they believe: We believe in preserving dignity and autonomy through aging in place for as long as possible. We do this by training families and caregivers to recognize and meet the emotional needs caused by dementia, how to support the cognitive skills their loved ones lose, and how to work with the skills they'll keep.   The seven tools of the DAWN Method® of dementia care:   The tools of the DAWN Method of dementia care: 1. Mood management, 2. Security in Confusion, 3. Security in Care, 4. Social Success, 5. Sense of Control, 6. Sense of Value, 7. Secure Future (in flower shape)   The first three DAWN tools are techniques for caregivers to help their loved ones regain a sense of security. Feeling secure is the most basic human need; we cannot relax if we don't feel safe. The last four tools help caregivers enhance their loved one's sense of contentment (“wellbeing”).   When caregivers use the first three DAWN tools, their loved ones learn that they can still be safe, and become more emotionally stable. With the last four DAWN tools, caregivers are equipped to restore and enhance their loved ones' sense of comfort in moments when discomfort looms.   The model or metaphor that best describes how the tools of the DAWN Method work together is the DAWN flower:   The DAWN flower shows the emotional needs created by dementia as a feedback loop—with the first DAWN tool, mood management, at its center. Mood management is central to being proactive and providing strength-based dementia care, because when someone loses their memory and thinking skills, they have lost the very skills we normally use to manage our own moods.   Their companions have become their mood managers, whether they realize it or not. Learning how to proactively create positive moods is the first tool of the DAWN Method, and one that enriches both care partners for the rest of their lives.   Once caregivers know how to create and maintain positive moods, they can help their loved ones learn an enduring sense of security in the two areas most vital to those undergoing cognitive impairment: learning that they can be safe even when confused, and learning that they can be safe accepting help from others.   The four components of wellbeing are much simpler. Someone can be given the gift of contentment (wellbeing) in moments and, if someone or something takes it away, their care partner can restore it in moments. With dementia, we have no need to learn contentment, because we never lose the skills we need to enjoy what others bring to us.   Once care partners are working with all seven of the DAWN tools, the relationship between them and their loved ones becomes marked by contentment and beauty rather than conflict and distress.

Timestamps - (10:45) Moms Who Murder A study by Brown University showed that from 1976 to 2007, on average, there were 500 cases of filicide a year in the United States. Filicide is the deliberate act of a parent killing their own child. Police were called to a home in Florida on May 30, 2025 for a welfare check on Ra'myl Pierre.   School officials were worried about his absence.  When authorities arrived at the home, they found Ra'Myl's mother, Rhonda Paulynice, acting ‘oddly'.   Ra'myl was found dead and wrapped in a blanket in the house.  It is alleged that Rhonda killed her son in an attempt to exorcise him of evil spirits. On May 26, 2025, neighbors in Bundaberg, Queensland in Australia called police after they allegedly witnessed Lauren Flanigan in the front yard with her deceased daughter, Sophia.  Lauren is alleged to have stabbed her daughter to death.   She was taken into custody.   Lauren suffered a ‘medical emergency' in her cell and was taken to hospital where she passed away on 1 June, 2025.   A full investigation into her death has commenced.
