And that's usually what happens between spiritually, relatively conscious adults and their teenage kids who are busy getting into stuff and getting through their stuff world. And what you have to do is use that as an exercise to work on yourself to get to the point where your mind is such where you can do what needs to be done to keep that act together, to keep the kid from blowing themselves apart if you can, and at the same moment keep spacious.” – Ram DassSee Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

[originally published on Patreon Today I go through the life and times of Immanuel Velikovsky, one of the most interesting figures in recent times. I discuss the importance of Freud to Velikovsky's works, and the main themes of Worlds in Collision. I discuss Einstein's relationship to Velikovsky, and Velikovsky's network of followers. While this is probably not the final word on Velikovsky, I think I come to a pretty grounded explanation of how and why the Velikovsky affair got so out of hand, and why Catastrophists and New Chronologists all seem to be spooks and occultists. [originally published on Patreon Jan 3, 2022] Today's a fun one because I answer a Q&A question about how much of what we know about history is crafted into a false narrative. I go through a straightforward discussion of a few major gray areas including Stonehenge, and Heribert Illig's Phantom Time Hypothesis, and discuss the evidence for and against it. That opens up a very deep rabbit hole. We're talking New Catastrophism, New Chronology, Velikovsky, Christoph Marx, Alfred de Grazia, and a Soviet spy ring embedded within a New Chronology study group. Seriah is joined by Chris Ernst and Super Inframan AKA Saxon to discuss the book "God Star" by the late Dwardu Cardona and related complimentary and contradictory theories. Topics involve the hypothesis that Saturn was once more like a sun and Earth orbited it before being dragged into its current solar system, the accuracy of ancient astronomy, comparative mythology between Egyptian and Greek deities, Osirus vs Dionysus, classical-era comparative mythology, ancient Greek historians Herodotus and Plutarch, colonialism and racism, a universal collective of unconscious knowledge, ideas and inventions emerging from different sources, cross-cultural folklore, the precision of oral tradition, the procession of the zodiac, memory vs writing, the use of memory palaces, referencing vs understanding, emojis, context and idiom in language, mathematics as a language, "Lost Knowledge of the Imagination" by Gary Lachman, the god Ra, possible ancient appearance of the sun as green, Scott Creighton, the great pyramid, Saturnian cults, world-wide catastrophe, Robert Schoch, ancient plasma formations, solar outbursts, different appearances of the sky, recorded history of unusual astronomical events, David Levinson, different values and definitions of evidence in different fields of science, ancient Babylonian descriptions of Saturn as the Sun, Ambrosius Theodosius Macrobius, Immanuel Velikovsky, Helio vs Sol, ancient Roman cult of Sol Invictus, Roger Wescott, forming rates of gas giant planets, comet Shoemaker-Levy 9 in 1994, Dogan and other African traditional beliefs, "Electric Universe" by David Talbott and Wallace Thornhill, the myths of an ”immovable sun”, the phase-locked orbit of the Moon around Earth, Saturn as a fixed sun in various cultures, gods and planets, a possible polar alignment with Saturn, the 2007 film "The King of California" starring Evan Rachel Wood and Michael Douglas, a global bulge at the north pole, mytho-historical and mytho-religious records, mistranslations, tidal forces, Earth's crust and a gravitational pull from Saturn, satellite geographical evidence, the actual shape of the Earth, C. Leroy Ellenberger, huge amounts of silty “muck” in the arctic, the ubiquity of darkness and massive water in creation stories, “purple dawn”, Neanderthals as apex predators of humans, and much more! This is wide-ranging, fascinating discussion!
Collisions between planets, planetesimals, asteroids, and comets have produced the place where we live and breathe.Today scientists are replacing myths with solid evidence that violent impacts between planets, planetesimals, asteroids, and comets are very common in our galaxy. They play a vital role in the formation of solar systems which contain habitable planets.

Epistemic status: Invincible Since Cavalry scouts are often in direct contact with the enemy, their job can be considered one of the most dangerous jobs the Army has to offer. something called "Operation Military Kids" There's some irony that Julia Galef's rationalist self-help book The Scout Mindset compares favorably the scout, who hunts for new and reliable evidence, to the soldier, who fights off threats. But scouts have one of the most dangerous military occupations. To quote a random website, "cavalry scouts and recon units tread uncharted ground when it comes to conflict zones. They are usually at the tip of any advance and, therefore, meet the brunt of whatever resistance is lying in wait for them." Uncharted epistemic territory is dangerous because it's awash with incorrect arguments which might convince you of their false conclusions. Many of these arguments are designed to be persuasive regardless of their accuracy. Scott Alexander describes succumbing to an "epistemic learned helplessness" after his failure to refute crackpots whose arguments are too carefully crafted to refute in any reasonable length of time: What finally broke me out wasn't so much the lucidity of the consensus view so much as starting to sample different crackpots. Some were almost as bright and rhetorically gifted as Velikovsky, all presented insurmountable evidence for their theories, and all had mutually exclusive ideas. After all, Noah's Flood couldn't have been a cultural memory both of the fall of Atlantis and of a change in the Earth's orbit, let alone of a lost Ice Age civilization or of megatsunamis from a meteor strike. So given that at least some of those arguments are wrong and all seemed practically proven, I am obviously just gullible in the field of ancient history. Given a total lack of independent intellectual steering power and no desire to spend thirty years building an independent knowledge base of Near Eastern history, I choose to just accept the ideas of the prestigious people with professorships in Archaeology, rather than those of the universally reviled crackpots who write books about Venus being a comet. You could consider this a form of epistemic learned helplessness, where I know any attempt to evaluate the arguments is just going to be a bad idea so I don't even try. If you have a good argument that the Early Bronze Age worked completely differently from the way mainstream historians believe, I just don't want to hear about it. If you insist on telling me anyway, I will nod, say that your argument makes complete sense, and then totally refuse to change my mind or admit even the slightest possibility that you might be right. (This is the correct Bayesian action: if I know that a false argument sounds just as convincing as a true argument, argument convincingness provides no evidence either way. I should ignore it and stick with my prior.) The solution is to ignore most evidence that would change your views. This strategy is well-supported by epistemology and psychology: Critical thinking is altogether on dubious footing. See Michael Huemer's "Is Critical Thinking Epistemically Responsible?" Abstract: Cilia protrude from the cell surface and play critical roles in intracellular signaling, environmental sensing and development. Actin-dependent contractility and intracellular trafficking are both required for ciliogenesis, but little is known about how these processes are coordinated. Here, we identified a Rac1- and Rab35-binding protein with a truncated BAR domain that we named MiniBAR (aka KIAA0355/GARRE) which plays a key role in ciliogenesis. MiniBAR colocalizes with Rac1 and Rab35 at the plasma membrane and on intracellular vesicles trafficking to the ciliary base and exhibits remarkable fast pulses at the ciliary membrane. MiniBAR depletion leads to short cilia resulting from abnormal Rac-GTP/Rho-GTP levels, increased acto-myosin-II-dependent contractility together with defective trafficking of IFT88 and ARL13B into cilia. MiniBAR-depleted zebrafish embryos display dysfunctional short cilia and hallmarks of ciliopathies including left-right asymmetry defects. Thus, MiniBAR is a unique dual Rac and Rab effector that controls both actin cytoskeleton and membrane trafficking for ciliogenesis. Copy rights belong to original authors. Lakatos in a nutshellScientists join research programmes. Research programmes are characterized by a small hard core of 2-5 postulates that guide development of theories and experiments. The hard core is not questioned from within the research programme. To be progressive, a research program must produce a series of dramatic ("novel") predictions that are confirmed by experiment. This is in contrast to the mainstream account of science, which emphasizes that it's rational to believe in a theory only if its predictions are not (yet) refuted. Lakatos's argument is that real scientists don't abandon beliefs because they're refuted. Indeed, "theories grow in a sea of anomalies, and counterexamples are merrily ignored."While anomalies or counterexamples are generally shelved to deal with later, some are too telling to ignore. Scientists react by producing an protective belt of auxiliary hypotheses. Those are of two sorts:The good kind are theories in their own right that also lead to novel predictions and confirmations."ad hoc" hypotheses are those purely created to defend the research programme, to explain away counterexamples. They don't lead to useful predictions.Note that you can't tell from the outside which category a protective theory falls into. That's discovered over time. Unlike the hard core, parts of the protective belt can be dropped or replaced.A research programme is degenerating if:it does not lead to stunning new predictions (at least occasionally...);all its bold predictions are falsified; andit does not grow in steps which "follow the spirit of the programme". That most likely means that it's no longer building by finding implications of its hard core. Instead, the researchers spend their time constructing ad hoc protective theories.A research programme can recover from degenerating and become progressive again. The wikipedia article has more detail. It's pretty good as of this episode's publication date.ReferencesThe standard reference is Lakatos's Philosophical Papers, Volume 1: The Methodology of Scientific Research Programmes, 1978, Currie & Worrell (editors). I personally found a series of Lakatos's transcribed lectures more useful for this episode. They're in For and Against Method: Including Lakatos's Lectures on Scientific Method and the Lakatos-Feyerabend Correspondence, 1995, Motterlini (editor). Lakatos and Feyerabend were both friends and sparring partners with very different views about science. Unfortunately, Feyerabend didn't save most of Lakatos's letters, and Feyerabend's letters tend more toward gossip than debate about issues. It's quite a loss, given that Lakatos died young (age 51).I don't mention it in the podcast, but Lakatos's Proofs and Refutations: The Logic of Mathematical Discovery, 1976, Worrall and Zaher (editors) is a wonderful book. It's a series of fictional conversations between a teacher and his students that recapitulates the history of Euler's polyhedron formula, V-E+F=2. As with his later Methodology did for science, Lakatos demonstrates that mathematics isn't just a steady accumulation of knowledge. Mathematicians don't just play the definition-theorem-proof game; they also use techniques like "monster barring". You'll be surprised by how entertaining it is.Immanuel Velikovsky, Worlds in Collision, (first edition, 1950). How do we distinguish real science from hogwash? How does real science evolve over time into pseudoscience? Why will science always be plagued with sister movements on the fringe that make us cringe? With us to explore these topics and their relationship to the demarcation problem is Michael Gordin. Michael is the Rosengarten Professor of Modern and Contemporary History and the director of the Society of Fellows in the Liberal Arts at Princeton University. He specializes in the history of modern science in Russia, Europe, and North America, especially issues related to the history of fringe science, the early years of the nuclear arms race, Russian and Soviet science, language and science, and Albert Einstein. He is the author of On the Fringe, which we discuss today, as well as The Pseudoscience Wars: Immanuel Velikovsky and the Birth of the Modern Fringe, Scientific Babel: How Science Was Done Before and After Global English, and Red Cloud at Dawn: Truman, Stalin, and the End of the Atomic Monopoly. Today we discuss diverse topics in fringe science, including Bigfoot, extra sensory perception, UFOs, astrology, alchemy, the ether, Aryan physics, Lysenkoism, phrenology, cryptozoology, Velikovsky, Mesmerism, Uri Geller, cold fusion, and where all of this leaves us as we navigate the waters between science and pseudoscience.
Science and Pseudoscience is based on an in-depth filmed conversation between Howard Burton and Michael Gordin, Rosengarten Professor of Modern and Contemporary History at Princeton University. This thought-provoking, extensive conversation examines the strange case of Immanuel Velikovsky, author of the bestselling book “Worlds in Collision” that managed to provocatively combine unbridled scientific speculation with ancient myth, as a way of probing the often-problematic boundary between science and pseudoscience. By all accounts, Velikovsky was a decidedly curious character. The notorious Russian-born doctor-turned psychoanalyst-turned astronomer-historian-autodidact not only had a flair for writing and boatloads of charisma and energy, he also was on record for making a couple of concrete predictions of his radical new theory of the solar system that turned out, much to the dismay of the authorities of the day, to actually be correct. We live within the ruins of an ancient civilization whose vast size has rendered it invisible. Remembered in myth as Atlantis, Lemuria, or other lost world archetypes, the remains of this advanced civilization have lain buried for millennia beneath the deserts and oceans of the world, leaving us many mysterious and inexplicable clues. Investigating the perennial myth of a forgotten fountainhead of civilization, Douglas presents extensive physical and spiritual evidence of a lost great culture, the collective amnesia that wiped it from planetary memory, and the countless ways ancient catastrophes still haunt modern civilization. He explores evidence of advanced ancient technology, anomalous ancient maps, extraterrestrial influence, time travel, crystal science, and the true age of the Sphinx. He examines evidence of Atlantis in the Bible and ancient Armageddon, the Stone Age high-tech found at Gobekli Tepe, the truth of Rapa Nui (Easter Island), the Zep Tepi monuments of Egypt, the mysteries of the Gulf of Cambay, and what lies beneath the ice of Antarctica. He looks at extinction events, Earth's connection with Mars, and how our DNA reveals that humanity has had enough time to evolve civilization and lose it more than once. Exploring the advanced esoteric and spiritual knowledge of the ancients, Doug shows that the search for Atlantis and other lost worlds reflects the search for the lost soul of humanity. Drawing upon Velikovsky's notion of species-wide amnesia caused by the trauma of losing an entire civilization, he reveals how the virtual ruins of a lost history are buried deep in our collective unconscious, constantly tugging at our awareness. By overcoming “the Great Forgetting,” humanity can find its way out of the haunted labyrinth in which we find ourselves lost today and rediscover the heights of spiritual and technological advancement of our ancient ancestors.

The Electric Universe model holds that there is a relationship between the Sun, planets, and perhaps the “lesser sun” we now know as Saturn. The relationship between these planets is electric vs. gravity-based in nature. Anciently, Earth would have been a very different place to live this period of time is referred to as the “Golden Age”. Understanding the origins of mythologies and man's relationship with the ancient sky has much more meaning when understood through the lens of an Electric Universe model. There would have been different shapes of plasma discharges emanating from heavenly these bodies and these heavenly bodies became deities, marks of the season or even a harbingers of destruction. We here at Lost River Legends, we have reached out and developed a good relationship with Michael Armstrong. He is a key member of the Thunderbolts Project. In the project's infancy he was at the crossroads and rubbed shoulders with Anthony Parrat, David Talbot, Wal Thornhill and others. He is a major proponent of the Saturnian Reconstruction movement which acknowledges an alternative cosmology of a “polar configuration” of Saturn, Venus and Mars. Some of the theories held by Velikovsky in “Worlds in Collision” have been supported by additional research from Wal Thornhill and others; there has been some very strong evidence to suggest we live in an Electric Universe. Michael Armstrong is an original member of the thunderbolts.info editorial staff and has a formal science background in chemistry. He has studied the catastrophism reconstruction model for over 40 years and has lectured on catastrophism material at an international conference sponsored by the province of Milano, Italy and hosted by the University of Milano/Bergamo. Michael is the producer of various related video material and publisher of the books Thunderbolts of the Gods, The Electric Sky, and The Electric Universe. Michael Currently spends his time pondering the bigger questions about who we are in the universe and how do we find peace and understanding in this chaotic world. His passion is philosophical and spiritual in nature. You can find his work on the subject at IfISeeU.com. He also runs Mikimar Publishing which can be found at: mikamar.biz Other helpful links: https://www.thunderbolts.info/wp/2016/05/11/michael-armstrong-the-culture-shock-of-planetary-catastrophe-eu2015-talk/ https://www.thunderbolts.info/wp/
Wal Thornhill is the co-founder of the Thunderbolts Project, co-author of both The Electric Universe and Thunderbolts of the Gods, & advisor to the SAFIRE project. Wal Thornhill got his degree in physics from Melbourne University. He says that much of his inspiration came from Immanuel Velikovsky’s book, Worlds in Collision. Wal was invited to attend one of Velikovsky’s conferences in Ontario in 1974, and he began to question the nature of gravity. His ideas have sparked the interest of scientists, engineers, and astronomers, and I expect that they will pique the interest of our listeners, as well. Enjoy!

During a summary review of the recent Sacred Geometry workshop in Sedona, Arizona, Randall gets charged and keeps on rolling into some of the hidden meanings and wonders of the esoteric studies. Why Sacred? What does it all mean? Is there an Archetypal Realm? Understanding that Geometry at its core means “measure of the Earth”, we get into the many curious ratios between humans, the planet, the solar system and beyond. Are we suffering from amnesia as Velikovsky wrote about in the 1950’s? Immersing ourselves in the study and practice of Sacred Geometry can accelerate our connections to the Natural World and Cosmos, so you better listen more than once! A continued discussion of Tesla's wireless transmission project and to answer questions that episode generated from listeners (and us). This leads to a discussion of one of Tesla's other projects, "Telegeodynamics", or, the transmission of mechanical energy through the body of the earth....also sometimes referred to as "the earthquake machine". They also talk about long-term geological signatures might be left on a planet by an advanced civilization, and how we might look for these kinds of signatures in earth's geological history, and how this could help us find signatures of advanced civilizations on distant exoplanets. They also talk about the concept of an astronomical "standard candle", also known as a Type 1a Supernova, the standard model theoretical process by which these events happen, and how modern astrophysicists and cosmologists used them to measure the expansion rate of the universe, which lead to the concept of "dark energy". BONUS: A special bonus segment where we talk about large resonant systems, and how they tend to want to synchronize the component parts, and how this possibly applies to Velikovsky's ideas - and might explain pyramids.

One of Johnny's all time favorites: Laird Scranton! The Snake Brothers talk to Laird about The Velikovsky Heresies, as a follow up to their deep dive on that book. Many of the questions they developed during the course of the deep dive series, such as the problem of calendar changes and how some cultures made changes to their calendars long after the 7th century BC. The ancient Chinese and Korean records of astronomical observations that don't seem to match up with current solar system models. We talk about the Dogon and their traditions that correspond to ancient Egypt and their calendars. They also hit Laird with some questions that listeners posted in the Discord, about a wide range of subjects that leads in many interesting directions. Don't miss this one! Epic podcasting!

This is the final part of our deep dive into Laird Scranton's The Velikovsky Heresies. For this final part we look at more evidence of ancient astronomers apparently seeing Venus in strange places or in ways that do not match current models. We read about Venus' apparently young surface, thin lithosphere that consists of one single "tectonic plate", its active vulcanism, and evidence of upper atmospheric lightning. We read about Venus having a very rare chemical in its atmosphere that is usually only found associated with cometary bodies. The book wraps up with a concise list of interesting points that seem to indicate that modern scientific discoveries do sometimes support some of Velikovsky's predictions, and whether this means all of his ideas were right or not is still a matter up for debate.

After returning from our trip through Arizona and Utah with Randall and Brad, we come back to the Tangent Cube at the end of the week for the next installment of our deep dive into The Velikovsky Heresies by Laird Scranton. This episode we talk a lot about magnetism, remnant magnetism in lunar rocks, and calendar changes made by multiple ancient civilizations all around the same time. We talk about immense climate changes that accompanied the sudden change from a 360 day calendar year to a 365 day calendar year. We also read about problems with various types of radioactive decay dating techniques, and how without knowing the exact amount of certain materials that existed in rock at the time of its formation, these techniques cannot give accurate dates, even assuming that the radioactive decay rate is a constant. For part two of our deep dive into The Velikovsky Heresies by Laird Scranton, we talk about the mechanics of the solar system, of circular orbits, of retrograde motion. We talk about the "n-body problem" of physics and how the motions of all the bodies in the solar system is, over the long term, an exercise in chaos mathematics. We read about how Velikovsky was in communication with Einstein before his death, and that Einstein was skeptical at first but was impressed when one of Velikovsky's predictions proved to be accurate. Parched from their trip to Arabia in the last episode, Sean and Cody exchange sand for surf in a rare double-header episode examining two different films on the same subject. In 1947, six buff Nordic adventurers set out on the Pacific on a tiny raft to prove a questionable theory about where the original settlers of Polynesia might have come from. The tale of their voyage was chronicled in the classic 1950 documentary and a 2012 Norwegian-made dramatic film, both titled Kon-Tiki. Environmental issues discussed include how the Pacific was vegetated and peopled in ancient times, the mysterious legacies of Easter Island, environmental history vs. pseudohistory, and European revisionism of indigenous origins and history. What was Thor Heyerdahl trying to prove with the voyage of the Kon-Tiki, and did he really succeed? Why does Easter Island attract so many crackpot theories? What's “Pacific island chic”? Who's Velikovsky and what does his infamous book about bad astronomy have to do with the subject of these films? Why did the Nazis want people to believe in ancient aliens? Did J. Velikovsky worlds in collision a book review
We finish our long deep dive into Velikovsky's Earth in Upheaval with this 6th installment of the series. In this episode we look at fossil plants and insects preserved in coal seams, seemingly shredded into small pieces yet preserved so well that the color of the insects is intact and leaves still contain chlorophyll. We also look into the mystery of the formation of coal itself, and how there are often dozens or even hundreds of layers of coal separated by layers of marine sediment. Near the end of the book, Velikovsky again takes a look at the works of Charles Darwin and the problems of speciation in evolution by the mechanism of natural selection, and the assumptions about "missing evidence in the geological record" that must be made in order to make the uniformitarian view work. We also open some great 1-Up boxes and read some emails, and Kyle reads a couple of very interesting space related articles. Diving deeper into Velikovsky's book, Earth in Upheaval, we look at submerged caves and rising seas, stranded shorelines and ancient lakes, old water levels now tilted many degrees off the horizontal, strange glacier flow evidence and always unexpectedly young dates for artifacts, fossils, and geological features. We talk about the magnetic field of the earth and the evidence for field reversals in recent times, and what a field reversal might cause in the biosphere, and what could possibly be the mechanism for such an event, deep within the planet. We talk about enormous lava flows, more erratics, sea caves that are now dry, and dry caves that are now submerged. All of which seem to have happened very quickly, and catastrophically. Also, what is the Fine Structure Constant? Brothers of the Serpent Episode 137 Your browser does not support the audio element.

Furthering our deep dive into Velikovsky's book, Earth in Upheaval, we read and discuss about the evidence of sea-bottom sediments not matching up with expectations of uniformitarian theory, with deep sea clays showing evidence of cosmic dust from meteorites being over a thousand times more abundant than was expected, with sands from what was once seashore beaches being found miles underwater. We also read about the enormous African Rift, which spans one third of the distance from pole to pole, and shows evidence of having been formed recently, by the sharpness of its features. We also dive into the problems if past ice ages seemingly having taken place in what are now equatorial regions, and what that might mean for possible pole shifts, or crustal shifts, and how that process might work in terms of physics and geophysics. We also discuss some things going on in our work lives with the olive orchard and leaf cutter ants, as well as give a brief overview of our thoughts on the Coronavirus. During a loose review of topics from the previous episode with Cosmic Tusk George Howard, RC talks about discovering the mysterious Carolina Bays controversy, searching for Georgia tektites along the “fall line” south of Macon, the “Complex Theory” for the Bays’ formation and its downfall, and the location of the Hiawatha Crater in relation to the many documented flood features at the Ice Sheets’ margins. The geomorphic evidence is inconsistent with typical marginal recession, so we are considering melting epicenters hundreds of miles from the margins. Randall also talks about melting epicenters and sub-glacial drumlin formation, being obsessed with the sudden shift of the Younger Dryas since he learned about it in the mid-80's, the seminal paper introducing the carbon-rich layer - the "black mat", and looking to find an integrating theory. He also broaches Velikovsky, asking for some extraordinary proofs from the EU crowd, and then gives an extraordinary introduction to our upcoming series of episodes on the YDB. [This is a slightly edited repost of an essay from my old LiveJournal] A friend recently complained about how many people lack the basic skill of believing arguments. That is, if you have a valid argument for something, then you should accept the conclusion. Even if the conclusion is unpopular, or inconvenient, or you don’t like it. He envisioned an art of rationality that would make people believe something after it had been proven to them. And I nodded my head, because it sounded reasonable enough, and it wasn’t until a few hours later that I thought about it again and went “Wait, no, that would be a terrible idea.” I don’t think I’m overselling myself too much to expect that I could argue circles around the average uneducated person. Like I mean that on most topics, I could demolish their position and make them look like an idiot. Reduce them to some form of “Look, everything you say fits together and I can’t explain why you’re wrong, I just know you are!” Or, more plausibly, “Shut up I don’t want to talk about this!” And there are people who can argue circles around me. Maybe not on every topic, but on topics where they are experts and have spent their whole lives honing their arguments. When I was young I used to read pseudohistory books; Immanuel Velikovsky’s Ages in Chaos is a good example of the best this genre has to offer. I read it and it seemed so obviously correct, so perfect, that I could barely bring myself to bother to search out rebuttals. And then I read the rebuttals, and they were so obviously correct, so devastating, that I couldn’t believe I had ever been so dumb as to believe Velikovsky. And then I read the rebuttals to the rebuttals, and they were so obviously correct that I felt silly for ever doubting.
The professor returns & takes us back to distant times of yore, accounting for the Cosmic War theory. In part 1 we discuss the Titius-Bode Law, codes in ancient myths, Dr. Campbells influence on the Star Wars movies, Dr. Brandenburg, Dr. Van Flandern, Dr. Velikovsky, Graham Hancock, Alan Alford, Christopher Knight, & ask such questions as: What's the exploded planet hypothesis? What people would live on original Ceres? Did Tesla try to monetize ZP energy? What's the anomalies of Mars, Luna & other solar system bodies? Is our Solar System a ruin? What tech can bust a planet? + we muse on the recent release of classified files on JFK & Hess. :: :: :: :: All programs are gratis & listener funded. Kyle has been "reading" Velikovsky's "Worlds in Collision" so we spend most of the show discussing the alternate view of history Velikovsky proposes in that book, and in the fourth segment, Russ reads some excerpts from William Brambley's "Gods of Eden" regarding the medieval plagues and how those epidemics seemed to be a result of objects being seen in the sky and strange black clad figures moving through crop fields at night.
We start out with the latest news on the ScanPyramids project, which is that there is no news. Then we discuss some crazy geology and paleontology factology because Russ is reading Velikovsky's Earth in Upheaval and it's blowing his mind. We're talking islands made entirely of mammoth bones and hippo teeth and glacial erratics so big people accidentally built villages on them. In the second half of the show we discuss a topic that has become a permanent SnakeBro favorite: weird giant triangles. In this case the giant triangle is the Bermuda Triangle, so we discuss the nature of the disappearances and outline a few specific cases, then go into the many theories about the possible causes, and Kyle demonstrates his skerptard skills by skerpderping them all(after which he announces he might be "going profesh"). One of the theories involves pyramids from Atlantis, still activating on occaision from the ocean depths and disappearing everything in sight. So basically a giant weird triangle caused by giant weird triangles. Plus there's fossil Kracken Plesiosaur Selfies in Australia and a bunch of bad dad jokes.
Join Greg Carlwood of The Higherside Chats as he talks about the advanced knowledge of the Dogon Tribe of Africa, the work of Immanuel Velikovsky, and comparative cosmology with guest, Laird Scranton. We've seen enough from mainstream academia to know their interest lies not in the pursuit of knowledge wherever it leads, but rather in the preservation of pre-approved paradigms with a variety of so-called experts in place to thoroughly shut down any wild theories, healthy speculation, or god forbid actual evidence that suggests these narrow views must be widened. Whether we're discussing the advanced cosmology of an African tribe that rivals modern science, or complex mythologies from the past about our solar system that defy everything NASA says it knows, we find, through the grace of alternative researchers, that the official answers are deeply and purposefully flawed. 4:30 Made popular by the work of Robert Temple and Carl Sagan, the Dogon Tribe of Africa is a modern-day primitive tribe that acts as a great entry point to the study of ancient African cultures and ancient creation mysteries. With ritual practices similar to Judaism, cultural civic practices like those in ancient Egypt, and a symbolic system of cosmology similar to ancient Buddhism, their culture serves as an umbrella, or a cross-roads for several different ancient traditions. 14:20 As an English major and a software engineer, Laird's linguistic and symbolic perspectives were critical tools in helping him unravel the Dogon systems. As a researcher in the field of comparative cosmology, his focus is comparing how different ancient cultures understand the same symbolic concept or myth. One advantage in the way the Dogon system has been established, is that words don't carry just one meaning, instead they carry multiple meanings. In the ancient mindset, when talking about processes of creation, they are essentially talking about three things simultaneously, which are how the universe formed, how matter forms, and how the reproduction process works. These three processes are seen to be so fundamentally similar to each other that they use a single progression of symbols to simultaneously describe all three. 22:30 Continuing on with the discussion about the change in the length of the calendar year, Greg and Laird discuss the possibility of a more sinister plot afoot. Laird contends there was a physical change on Earth that effected the length of the year around that time. He corroborates his stance with supporting evidence including the tracking of solar eclipses dating back to 709 b.c. that conflict with credible sources citing cosmic events with contradicting dates. Other interesting pieces of evidence to support the theory that a major event on Earth occurred are the sudden unexplained change at the rate in which plants absorb ions, major dramatic climate change the affected agriculture, and evidence of major volcanic eruptions. 32:30 Because of the huge gap in knowledge from when events occurred and when they were recorded, finding a line of continuity can be a bit tricky. As Laird points out, in his book "Point of Origin" the use of various facets of language, and symbols found throughout other ancient cultures played a key role in his research of the ancient Turkish site Gobekli Tepe. 41:45 Imparting relevant knowledge to the Dogon tribe about agriculture and the structure of reality is understandably justified. Greg and Laird peel back the onion of outer space and explore the incentive to educate the Dogon on the Sirius constellations. A parallelism between the three symbolic processes of creation includes the egg. Following this idea, Laird walk us through the macro and microcosm vortices that correlate to one another and serve as the Dogon's explanation for the creation of the universe. 56:10 After expressing such an interest in cosmologies and the mindset of ancient cultures, Greg and Laird discuss the possibility of going down the...
Interview Starts 47:20 Wal Thornhill joins us for this special episode, co-hosted by one of our listeners Nickie Benefield. Was Thornhill, is an author, one of the earlier Electric Universe proponents and founder of the website www.holoscience.com. The locals in Auzi call him The Boundary Rider of Science…. Wal contributes to the sister site www.thunderbolts.info, a wealth of scientific information and has been keynote speaker at the Electric Universe conferences since 2012. We have a great chat about all things electric and some of the EU theories and how they differ from the dogmatic mainstream narrative. Most of our chat is about cosmology, the solar system, electromagnetism, etc, but it also crosses over into consciousness, biology and inherited memories. Everything is electric and we are all connected. www.holoscience.com www.thunderbolts.info At the start of show we overview the holoscience and thunderbolts website and the genesis of the contemporary Electric Universe. How the 19th century had it right and the 20th century fucked it up, Velikovsky vs. Newton, and how Wal was inspired by learning the history of our solar system. 53:00- How Wal and David Talbot, and the first conference in recent history 59:00 - The end of ancient man, doomsday and the trauma left over from our roots. Who the 2nd Galileo will end up being and how the big bang will end up being a farce. 1:07:00 - The collision in our solar system, Mars, Venus and the possible new history of mankind. Could the new alignment be the missing link? 1:15:00 - Dark energy, dark matter, and fudging the numbers to keep the current paradigm afloat. 1:27:00 - More on recent history of the solar system, and the last capture. 1:47:00 - Outer planets as brown dwarfs and what the sun is for reals…. 2:02:00 - Life around saturn, the gas giants and the icy watery moons. 2:17:00 - The best evidence and the best argument for EU and what is the biggest issue the mainstream has with EU. From the smallest particle to the largest galactic formation, a web of electrical circuitry connects and unifies all of nature, organizing galaxies, energizing stars, giving birth to planets and, on our own world, controlling weather and animating biological organisms. There are no isolated islands in an electric universe. ~David Talbott and Wallace Thornhill, Thunderbolts of the Gods Intro: Nickie Benefield won the recent "Grimerica Upgrades” fundraiser program and he chose to have Wal Thornhill (been on the top of our wish list for a long time!) on the show, so Nickie joins us for this intro as well. Surrounded by controversy even before its publication in 1950, Immanuel Velikovsky’s Worlds in Collisionintroduced the provocative theory that Venus began as a brilliant comet ejected by Jupiter around 1600 BCE, wreaking chaos on Mars and Earth as it roamed through our solar system prior to settling into its current orbit. Immediately dismissed without any investigation and subject to vicious attacks, Velikovsky’s theory is now poised for reexamination in light of recent astronomical and archaeological findings. Exploring the key points of Velikovsky’s theories, Laird Scranton presents evidence from recent space probe missions to show that Venus still exhibits cometlike properties, such as its atmospheric composition, and could be a young planet. Reviewing the widespread cometlike descriptions of Venus from 1500 BCE to 750 BCE as well as Velikovsky’s observation that no records of Venus exist prior to 1600 BCE, Scranton reveals recently translated ancient texts from China, Korea, and Japan that further uphold Velikovsky’s theories. Examining evidence of major geomagnetic and climate-change events around 1500 BCE and 750 BCE, corresponding with close passes of the comet Venus and its impact with Mars, the author offers scientific explanations for many disputed aspects of Velikovsky’s theories, such as how Venus transformed from a comet into an orbiting planet. By updating this unresolved controversy with new scientific evidence, Scranton helps us to understand how it was that Worlds in Collision was the one book found open on Albert Einstein’s desk at the time of his death.Laird Scranton, an independent software designer, has studied ancient myth, language, and cosmology since 1997. The author of several books, including The Science of the Dogon, he has been a lecturer at Colgate University and lives in Albany, New York.

Laird Scranton is the author of a trilogy of books about the Dogon tribe in Africa. Laird showcases their extensive scientific knowledge and goes far to show that their knowledge is ancient by connecting it to Egyptian and other civilizations symbolic structures. He shows complex ties to Egypt, as well as India. We discuss all of this in the first half of the show, including;Who were the original researchers of the Dogon? The Dogon Creation Story and it's connections to modern science. The role of Sirius in their mythology. The Nummo Fish.Egyptian connections. The dual meaning of symbols. How they retained the purity of their symbolism.Connections to Quantum, String, and Torsion Theory. After that, we moved on to Laird's latest book, The Velikovsky Heresies. In this work, Laird compares the theories of Immanual Velikovsky, as presented in Worlds in Collision, published back in 1950 with current science and attempts to find if there is anything we have learned in the last 60 years that definitely proves or disproves Velikovsky's theories. Among other things, we discuss;Velikovsky's theory. The scientific world's reaction. What may have happened to Mars. The change in the length of the year.Characteristics of Venus that still resemble that of comets. Why he was attacked and the lengths his attackers went to.Carl Sagan's role. “No one in the history of the world has ever self-identified as a pseudoscientist.” From the very first sentence, Michael D. Gordin’s new book introduces readers to the characters, plotlines, and crises that have shaped the narratives of fringe science since the early twentieth century. Focusing on Cold War America from the late 1940s to the late 1970s, The Pseudo-Science Wars: Immanuel Velikovsky and the Birth of the Modern Fringe (University of Chicago Press, 2012) traces the transformations of science at the margins that were stimulated by Immanuel Velikovsky, “the first grand wizard of the Universal Order of Mass Pseudo-Scholarship” and a Russian-born psychoanalyst whose Worlds in Collision triggered an epistemic avalanche among members of the American scientific community. Gordin tracks the surprising relationships of Velikovsky and his work, from Zionism to Creationism, and from Freud to Einstein. It becomes a story of competing attitudes toward historical evidence, as the scientific orthodoxy reacted to threats from the margins and those on the margins sought to preserve their own orthodoxy on the fringes. Gordin’s book is a multi-layered modern history of problem of scientific demarcation as well as a fascinating read. We talked about many aspects of the book, as well as Gordin’s approach to the craft of research and writing for a book-length project. Host: Chris Mooney Before the "complementary and alternative medicine" fad, and before UFO craze, lived a man whom you might call the first modern pseudoscientist. His name was Immanuel Velikovsky. He had a strange theory about a comet—that turned out to be Venus—shaping the course of human history. He tangled with Carl Sagan about it—and with the scientific community about it. And then, he was mostly forgotten. But no longer, because Princeton historian of science Michael Gordin has tracked down Velikovsky's personal papers. In his book The Pseudoscience Wars: Immanuel Velikovsky and the Birth of the Modern Fringe, Gordin uses Velikovsky's example to show how he laid the groundwork for other pseudosciences-it's kind of like they followed in his footsteps. Michael Gordin is professor of history at Princeton University and director of the program in Russian and Eurasian Studies. He has written widely in the history of science with a focus on the Soviet Union and the early nuclear age. The Pseudoscience Wars is his fourth book.
Immanuel Velikovsky's "Worlds in Collision" laid forth the idea that Venus was a comet ejected from Jupiter just a few thousand years ago, and much crises happened as a result. Many today still use his ideas. What they were and whether they stand up to scrutiny is the subject of this episode.
