Brad Thompson from MediaGo, a Baidu Company, joins AdTechGod on the AdTechGod Podcast to break down how SMB advertisers are using performance DSPs as a bridge from walled gardens into open web programmatic. Brad shares his path from agency work to platforms like AOL and MediaMath, why simplifying programmatic is essential for growth, how he uses LinkedIn and X differently to build partnerships, and what 2026 may look like as AI reshapes ad ops and optimization. The episode closes with Brad's view that AdCP can steer the industry back toward strong messaging and smart media choices, not just data-driven outcomes. Takeaways SMB marketers know Amazon, Meta, and TikTok well, but many need a simpler on-ramp to open web programmatic, creating a clear role for performance DSPs. AI will most improve optimization and creative workflows, while ad ops shifts through fewer manual tasks and slower net new hiring. LinkedIn works best for personal marketing and steady industry updates, while X is better for real-time discussion and learning. Strong relationships are still the edge in sales and BD because people handle the messy moments that tech cannot. AdCP is a major 2026 opportunity that can refocus digital advertising on message and media quality. A thick wall separates the world of Torah from the world outside of it. Those who are outside have no concept of the wondrous nature of that world. Even people who are Torah observant - who are Orthodox - can be totally ignorant of this most magnificent world. Even someone who is privileged to be enumerated amongst students of a Yeshiva, may be ignorant of the true world of Torah. That is how the book Alei Shur, authored by my saintly grandfather Rabbi Shlomo Wolbe begins. There's a magnificent, majestic, marvelous world of Torah, but it is guarded by a thick wall. The words "Alei Shur" (עלי שור) mean "atop the rampart." In this book, the Magnum Opus a of my grandfather's extremely voluminous literary output, offers the readers a tour on top of the ramparts of that thick wall. With the first reading of the book, readers are only asked to tread upon the ramparts and examine every part of this wonderful world. With a second reading of the book, the reader is encouraged to head down from the ramparts and to find a portal to enter into this wonderful world themselves. In this podcast we study the introduction of this fantastic book. Learning this introduction will certainly whet our appetites to be included in this tour on top of the ramparts. As app marketers navigate rising costs and tightening privacy rules, one truth is becoming clear — relying solely on Meta, Google, and TikTok is no longer sustainable. Beyond those walled gardens lies a vast, often overlooked landscape — the open internet — where opportunities for user acquisition remain untapped. In this App Talks special of the Business of Apps Podcast, David Murphy sits down with Omri Argaman, Co-Founder and CMO of Zoomd, to unpack how brands can scale efficiently outside the major ad platforms. Omri shares lessons from running thousands of campaigns across more than 600 integrated channels — from SDK and OEM partnerships to mobile operators and in-game ads. You'll hear why advertisers need to rethink where their users are, how to combat fraud while operating in open markets, and what strategies help brands grow globally without overspending on the usual platforms. If your growth plan still starts and ends with Meta or Google — this episode will change how you think about your acquisition mix. Let's dive in: here's Omri Argaman, Co-Founder and CMO at Zoomd. Today's topics include: Expanding beyond walled gardens: Why advertisers should move past Meta, Google, and TikTok to access untapped audiences and reduce competition. Understanding the open internet: Overview of ad channels like SDK networks, OEMs, mobile operators, DSPs, affiliate, native, and in-game advertising. Key challenges: Need for experienced partners, patience in optimization, regional differences, and higher exposure to ad fraud. Success stories: Case studies showing 200% growth for a streaming app and 30% lower acquisition costs for an e-commerce brand. Practical advice: Start small with test budgets, focus on performance models, use anti-fraud tools, and find reliable partners for sustainable scale. Links and Resources: Omri Argaman on LinkedIn Zoomd website Business Of Apps - connecting the app industry Quotes from Omri Argaman “A lot of advertisers avoid the open internet because they don't have the knowledge or the right partner — but that doesn't mean their customers aren't there.” “Success outside the walled gardens takes patience. You need to test, measure, and adapt across regions — not just spend and hope for results.” “Don't be afraid to step beyond Meta and Google. Start small, work on performance models, and you'll find a whole new ocean of users to acquire.” Host Business Of Apps - connecting the app industry since 2012

On this episode of Crazy Wisdom, Stewart Alsop talks with Agustin Ferreira, founder of Neurona, an AI community in Buenos Aires. Their conversation moves through Argentina's history with economic crises and the rise of crypto as an alternative to failing institutions, the importance of Ethereum and smart contracts, the UX challenges that still plague crypto adoption, and how AI and agents could transform the way people interact with decentralized systems. They also explore the tension between TradFi and DeFi, questions of data privacy and surveillance, the shifting role of social networks, and even the cultural and philosophical meaning of decentralization. You can learn more about Agustin's work through Neurona on Twitter at Neurona.Check out this GPT we trained on the conversationTimestamps00:05 Agustin shares how Argentina's economic crises and the Corralito shaped interest in Bitcoin and Ethereum, with smart contracts offering a way out of broken systems.00:10 They compare Bitcoin's simplicity with Ethereum's immutability and programmability, opening new use cases beyond money transfers.00:15 The discussion shifts to crypto's UX problem, from jargon and wallets to agents and AI smoothing the user experience, with projects like Gina Wallet and Gigabrain.00:20 Stewart's frustrations with NFTs and bridging tokens highlight why validators, restaking, and cross-chain complexity still matter for decentralization.00:25 Agustin reflects on TradFi merging with DeFi, the risk of losing core values, and how stablecoins and U.S. interest could spark a spike in crypto markets.00:30 They broaden into Web 2.0's walled gardens, the need for alternatives, and how AI, data privacy, and surveillance raise urgency for decentralized systems.00:35 Social networks, culture, and hypercapitalism come into focus, with Agustin questioning fantasy online lives and imagining more conscious connections.00:40 The conversation turns philosophical, exploring religion-like markets, self-knowledge, and the hope for technology that feels more human.00:45 Stewart and Agustin discuss off-grid living, AI as a tool for autonomy, and space exploration shaping future generations.00:50 Agustin brings in the metaverse, both its potential to connect people more deeply and the risk of centralization, closing with Neurona's mission in Buenos Aires.Key InsightsOne of the strongest themes Agustin brings forward is how Argentina's long history of economic crises and the Corralito in 2001 created a natural openness to crypto. For his generation, trust in the peso was destroyed early, and holding dollars became the norm. This made decentralized alternatives like Bitcoin and later Ethereum feel less like speculation and more like survival tools.Ethereum's introduction of smart contracts represented a decisive leap from Bitcoin's simple ledger into programmable, immutable agreements. For young Argentines, this opened a space to innovate and build projects that weren't dependent on fragile local institutions, and it felt like a path to opportunity in the midst of recurring instability.Agustin emphasizes that crypto still has a major UX problem. From confusing jargon to multiple wallets and bridges, it's far from intuitive. He sees AI agents playing a transformative role in making transactions and investments seamless, removing technical friction so people can use crypto without even realizing the complexity beneath it.Bridging across blockchains reveals both the promise and challenge of decentralization. Tokens must be locked, represented, and validated across chains, and while this creates resilience, it also adds layers of risk. Agustin hopes the future will feel “like magic,” where these processes disappear from the user's view. The rise of TradFi players in DeFi is double-edged. On one hand, it accelerates maturity and scale, but on the other, it risks eroding the original ethos of decentralization. Agustin worries about lost principles yet also anticipates a surge of new DeFi projects and stablecoin adoption driven by U.S. financial interests.Beyond finance, the conversation turns to the politics of data privacy and surveillance. Agustin argues that much of the motivation for decentralized systems is to resist manipulation, polarization, and weaponization of personal information—issues that AI will amplify unless paired with decentralized alternatives. Finally, both Stewart and Agustin reflect on culture, social networks, and even the metaverse. Agustin critiques hypercapitalism's fantasy-driven platforms and envisions technology that enables more authentic human connection. Whether through off-grid living, space exploration, or decentralized metaverse communities, he sees a need to balance innovation with deeper human and philosophical questions about freedom and meaning.

Abbasid History Podcast

Hakim Abul-Majd Majdūd ibn Ādam, better known as Sanai, was an influential poet of Sufism who was attached to the Ghaznavid court in modern day Afghanistan. His major work The Walled Garden of Truth has been an enduring classic. An adaption of his verses were quoted at the end of the 2017 Hollywood film The Shape of Water. Q1. Sanai was born 1080CE. During his life the Abbasid caliphs of Baghdad were clashing with internal enemies from their supposed Seljuk vassal, engaged in a Cold War with Fatimid Cairo, and reckoning with Crusaders in the Levant. And the Almohads would established themselves in North Africa. What more can we say about his socio-political and cultural context? Q2. Sanai was associated with the last Ghaznavid ruler Bahram Shah who reigned from 1117-1152. What do we know about the life of Sanai considering I found three different dates for his death? Q3. Sanai is considered the first poet to use the qasidah (ode), ghazal (lyric), and the masnavi (rhymed couplet) to express the philosophical, mystical and ethical ideas of Sufism. Describe for us his works.  Q4. What translations and secondary resources would you recommend on Sanai? Q5. S5E21 Volsung Poems: The Last Sons of Gudrun (Part 7)The conclusion of this meant to be short series, deep diving into the poems that underlie the Saga of the Volsungs. It has been quite a journey. If you have been following along, we have seen how the original sources are flawed. Some missing pages and stanzas. Some seem to be early poems, sometimes rearranged or reconstructed. Some are entirely new constructions at the time of their recording in the 13th century. It feels very fitting, this part of the poetic edda ends on what seems to be one of the oldest poems. The Lay of Hamdir. When I first read these poems, it was hard to see why this story has anything to do with Sigurd and the Norse Gods. It connects the Volsung clan to another historical legendary king, Ermanaric (Iormurekk), the 6th Century Gothic King in Scythia, before the Hun invasion. It seems to be a simple tale, connecting kings and legendary heroes to the gods. It contains a story of gruesome torture. Reflects the pain inflicted on the victims of marriages for political alliances. The fateful families formed by these agreements of men.Metaphorically it reflects why the hero has to die. Why does the hero have to die? Why can't he just have a nice retirement for once? I connect the meaning to the totality of Carl Jung's theory of the hero, the heroic ego. Overcoming the unconscious, separating the great mother from the anima. Learning to accept fate and connecting to The Self.It is the meaning of this entire journey from the origin of the gods. The destiny and fate of the hero.If you want to read more about the meaning I find in this poem and saga, this episode inspired me to write a new cryptic blog post: https://tworavenpodcast.wordpress.com/2025/08/15/the-death-of-the-hero/Ways to support us:If you have been enjoying our show, please write a 5 star review on itunes to help spread our podcast to a wider audience:https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/between-two-ravens-a-norse-mythology-podcast/id1604263830Buy Shawn and David a Beer or Coffee: https://ko-fi.com/tworavenpodcastFollow us for updates or send us a message on Instagram:Instagram: (@TwoRavensPodcast): https://www.instagram.com/tworavenspodcast/Check out David's writing: Walled Garden (https://thewalledgarden.com/davidalexander)Our podcast is part of The Walled Garden Podcast Network. S5E20 Volsung Poems: Two Poems of Atli (Part 5)David continues his series of not so short solo episodes, deep diving into the Poems of the Poetic Edda which inspired the Saga of the Volsungs. In this episode:The Lay of AtliThe Greenlandic Lay of AtliThese poems connect the legends of Atli the Hun, to his wife Gudrun and the poems of Sigurd and his decent from the Norse Gods. Atli kills Gudrun's brothers. Some would say to avenge Sigurd and Brunhilde. Others would say to obtain Fafnir's Hoard of Gold. Either way, it is the curse of Andvari's gold, leading to the deaths of generations of fathers and sons.We see in these poems the author favors the Giukung family, Gudrun, Hogni and Gunnar. Where previous poems placed them as the betrayers of Sigurd, Sigurd has been mostly forgotten here. Gudrun does grieve the loss of her great love, but she also hangs on to the love of her brothers and the bonds of kinship. The Giukung family are Goths, a Germanic Tribe. Sigurd joined their clan. But he betrayed the love of Brunhilde, of the family of Atli and the Huns. Gunnar is too smart to allow the hoard of Fafnir to fall into the hands of the Huns. It is returned to the bottom of the Rhine River. But the curse lives through Gudrun and she sees to the death of her two sons by Atli. The Net Promoter System Podcast – Customer Experience Insights from Loyalty Leaders
Ep. 254: Gurdeep Pall | The Internet Side of the AI Battle: Why Walled Gardens Fail

The Net Promoter System Podcast – Customer Experience Insights from Loyalty Leaders

Play Episode Listen Later Aug 14, 2025 14:34

Episode 254: What if the future of AI in customer experience is built not by giant platforms but by small, reusable, open source AI agents? Gurdeep Pall, President of AI Strategy at Qualtrics, believes open, modular AI agents will outmaneuver big tech's locked-down systems. In this conversation from the X4 Summit, Gurdeep argues that “experience agents”—task-specific bots that can plug into any stack—will give companies more control, better performance, and real freedom. Closed AI platforms promise convenience, but they trap businesses in rigid walled gardens. Gurdeep argues that modular architectures unlock something better: flexibility, reuse, and evolution. “Break down the agents to very specific functionality,” he says. “And those agents can be invoked by many different agents for different types of tasks.” This isn't just a tech choice. It's a business and philosophical stance. Qualtrics is partnering with LangChain and releasing open connectors to build an ecosystem of interoperable agents. The goal? Let companies mix, match, and scale customer-facing systems without depending on any one vendor. “This is one semantic level up,” he says, comparing today's agentic architectures to the launch of the web and mobile eras. “What agents are going to do for user experience—taking our digital game to the next level—is very exciting.” Guest: Gurdeep Pall, President of AI Strategy, Qualtrics Host: Rob Markey, Partner, Bain & Company Give Us Feedback: https://bit.ly/CCPodcastFeedback Time-Stamped Topics: (00:01) Why Qualtrics is going all-in on open agentic AI (00:04) An overview of the Qualtrics and LangChain partnership (00:06) The modular architecture of “experience agents” (00:08) Why one task might require seven agents (00:09) How specialization allows reuse and scale (00:10) Rejecting the walled garden model (00:11) Making open systems friction-free (00:12) A real-time use case from the X4 stage (00:14) Plug and play simplicity for complex integrations (00:15) Why this is a new digital paradigm Time-Stamped Quotes: [7:00]  “It's about how you break up the task. Like, when you call the human, the human didn't sit there and not do anything and the password got reset. The human went to a piece of software and they went and worked on it. So, what we are talking about here is the combination of software and the human, now organized most efficiently.” [8:00] “ If you're able to break down the agents to very specific functionality, then those agents can be invoked by many different agents for different types of tasks.”  [10:00] “ There is one example of a very small, open system called the Internet, which somehow, through open standards, became one of the most incredible innovations of human beings ever. So what we are trying to do is to take a stand and say, 'We believe in open systems and we want to let our customers know that this is a choice.'”

The Walled Garden Stack: Why No New Mediation Platform Has Survived Since 2017 by Felix Braberg

Play Episode Listen Later Aug 6, 2025 17:31

In this solo episode, Felix Braberg cuts through the hype and breaks down what's actually happening in mobile ad monetization networks in 2025. The real mediation market is cornered by AppLovin MAX, Unity LevelPlay, and Google AdMob—with upstarts like Amazon Publisher Services and Moloco making surprise moves. But even the biggest ad-revenue studios (Rollic, Habi) are running from ads to IAP-first strategies. ECPMs are down 20 percent from pandemic peaks, networks are harder to work with, and the “walled garden” is stronger than ever. What's inside:Mediation Monopoly: AppLovin MAX now dominates mediation market share, with exclusive features like AdROAS and BlendedROAS campaigns locking in publishers. Unity and Google still matter, but the stack is closed and hostile to new entrants.Amazon's Banner Play: Amazon Publisher Services quietly became the top banner revenue source in the US and Europe, beating Google—but getting on the platform is a lottery. Last month, Amazon kicked 100 publishers off with no warning. TAM (Transparent Ad Marketplace) deals are lucrative, but rare.Moloco's Rise: Moloco, a DSP, is exploding with rumored $2.2B in 2025 spend, going direct to top publishers with its SDK. Publishers see 8–15 percent ARPDAU boosts on video and 20 percent or more on banners after adding Moloco. The secret? Once DSPs get big enough, they need direct supply, not just reselling.Ad Monetization Shift: The biggest ad studios are pivoting hard—Habby's Whittle Defender and Rollic's latest puzzle hits (Whole People, KnitOut) now get as little as 11–20 percent of revenue from ads, compared to 50–50 splits just two years ago. IAPs are the future, and “remove ads forever” packages are everywhere. Why ECPMs Are Down: ECPMs are 20 percent below 2021. Reasons include: post-pandemic demand crash, privacy updates (especially iOS), the loss of waterfall calls in mediation (bidding is the default), and “walled garden” platform control. It's harder than ever to keep prices up or diversify your stack.Key Takeaway:If you're not building your stack around AppLovin, Amazon, and Moloco, you're missing where the real money flows. But even the best ad ops can't beat macro headwinds—hybrid monetization is dying, and you need more IAP or you'll be left behind.Get our MERCH NOW: 25gamers.com/shop---------------------------------------This is no BS gaming podcast 2.5 gamers session. Nvidia scored a potential win today, after announcing that it expected to be able to sell its AI chips in China again after the Trump administration seemed ready to reverse course on its ban in April. Though Nvidia's less-performant chips give fast-growing rivals in China a chance to catch up, Nvidia also has an edge they don't: its software ecosystem. Plus, CEO Jensen Huang is in China today, marking his third visit to the country this year. It could signal a new era for the chipmaker chief, one that involves a more diplomatic role.

He dives into frameworks and strategies, outlining the five methods of consumption and aiming for high quality that makes virality possible. He also dives into the difference between feeds, shows, and networks, giving case studies and examples and highlights the shift towards platform-specific content and the role of marketers as 'gardeners' in navigating walled gardens like YouTube and LinkedIn.Key Takeaways:There are five methods of consumption that marketers need to be thinking about: shorts, shows, medium form video, live entertainment and fiction.  The format matches consumption. Shorts for scrollers, shows for subscribers, limited series for binges, live events for live learners, fiction for edutainment. A feed and a show and a network are three different things. Creating a network allows audiences to self-select into the content that they like.  The optimal strategy for creating content to deliver it to your audiences, is for creators to create it and put it on the platform. Individuals, not brands.Quote: “ That's what we have to figure out - how do we maximize coverage for our target audience? And if you ignore methods of consumption or you ignore format, or you ignore hosts, you're inherently ignoring a subset of your population."  Episode Timestamps: *(00:06) The future of B2B content in 2025*(01:42) Five methods of consumption*(07:52) Framework: feeds, shows, and networks*(16:38) We're all gardeners: accessing walled gardens*(17:38) The shift to creator-first content*(24:41) The importance of distribution and creativitySponsor:Pipeline Visionaries is brought to you by Qualified.com. There is also an interesting passing of the torch where in 1066 William the Conqueror supposedly dug up the grave of Ivar the Boneless (deciding to burn his body), which may represent the end of Anglo-Saxon England and the Viking Age.Ways to support us:If you have been enjoying our show, please write a 5 star review on itunes to help spread our podcast to a wider audience:https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/between-two-ravens-a-norse-mythology-podcast/id1604263830Buy Shawn a Beer or Coffee: https://ko-fi.com/tworavenpodcastFollow us for updates or send us a message on Instagram:Instagram: (@TwoRavensPodcast): https://www.instagram.com/tworavenspodcast/Check out David's writing: Walled Garden (https://thewalledgarden.com/davidalexander)Our podcast is part of The Walled Garden Podcast Network. S5E17 Volsung Poems: The Children of Giuki and Budli (Part 5)David continues his series of not so short solo episodes, deep diving into the Poems of the Poetic Edda which inspired the Saga of the Volsungs. In this episode:The Second Poem of Gudrun. The Death of the Niflungs.Oddrun's Lament. These relatively late poems bridge The First Poem of Gudrun to the poems about Atli and the early poem Lay of Hamdir (coming soon). The children of Giuki are Gunnar, Hogni, and Gudrun. And as we saw previously, Gudrun has sworn vengance against her brothers for killing her beloved Sigurd. The children of Budli are Brynhild, Atli, and Oddrun. These late poems explain that Budli wanted Brynhild to be a single shield maiden. Running her own kingdom and free from a husband. Oddrun was to be married to Gunnar to establish a peace between the clans. But Budli is dead, and Atli had other plans (perhaps the wealth of Sigurd threw off the initial plans). He married off Brynhild (likely so his sister would not have a neighboring kingdom to rival his own) and forbid the lovebirds, Gunnar and Oddrun, from marrying. We see in this episode how Gudrun wanted to grieve in peace, but the patriarchy, the brothers and parents, want her to reestablish the alliance formed by the marriage of Gunnar and Brynhild. My conclusion is that these particular poems are fan fiction. As the Poetic Edda scholar Carolyn Larrington says, these late contructions: "give more justification than seems necessary" for why the families go to war and why Atli kills Gunnar and Hogni. There are some very amusing verbal dueling between Oddrun and another lady of the court, the unwed and pregnant Borgny. A poetic battle conducted while Oddrun begrudgingly serves as her midwife. It finally answers Shawn's question from Season 1 on Havamal. In this episode, Shawn and David discuss chapter 15 of "The Saga of Ragnar Lodbrok". Despite his absence in the previous episode, Ragnar knows full well about the successful military campaigns of his sons. Despite his past of slaying a dragon/serpent and being a great king among men, Ragnar sees his son's exploits beginning to exceed his own.In what seems to be a dark age mid life crisis, Ragnar decides to go to England with only 2 ships in an effort to take the land (with the justified lack of support of his wife, Aslaug). However, seeing she cannot change his mind, Aslaug give Ragnar a hair shirt that would prevent him from taking harm on the battlefieldArmed with the hair shirt and the spear he used to slay the dragon and win over his first wife, Thora, Ragnar embarks on his journey. However, his voyage quickly takes a disastrous turn when he wrecks on the eastern shores of Northumbria. The hosts dive into the aftermath of Ragnar's ill-fated invasion. Did Ragnar truly believe he had a chance to conquer England, or was he already aware that his actions would set the stage for an even greater destiny—one that would elevate the legacy of his sons?Ways to support us:If you have been enjoying our show, please write a 5 star review on itunes to help spread our podcast to a wider audience:https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/between-two-ravens-a-norse-mythology-podcast/id1604263830Buy Shawn a Beer or Coffee: https://ko-fi.com/tworavenpodcastFollow us for updates or send us a message on Instagram:Instagram: (@TwoRavensPodcast): https://www.instagram.com/tworavenspodcast/Check out David's writing: Walled Garden (https://thewalledgarden.com/davidalexander)Our podcast is part of The Walled Garden Podcast Network. In this episode, the sons of Ragnar— Ivar, Bjorn, Hvitserk, and Sigurd—along with Ragnar's wife Aslaug, invade King Eystein's land to avenge their fallen brothers, Eirik and Agnar. Facing yet another magical cow on the battlefield, Ivar the Boneless (if his ability to live without bones didn't make it obvious) reveals his own magical abilities in taking on the cow. After the invasion, the sons (this time without their mother) turn their ambitions south, raiding every land in their path with dreams of reaching Rome. However, their plans are interrupted by a familiar deity, one we've absolutely not discussed 535 times, who redirects them northward, knowing that their true destiny lies in England, not Rome.Shawn also goes on a rant about the limitations of dark age footwear, because apparently shoe durability is the real villain in this saga.Ways to support us:If you have been enjoying our show, please write a 5 star review on itunes to help spread our podcast to a wider audience:https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/between-two-ravens-a-norse-mythology-podcast/id1604263830Buy Shawn a Beer or Coffee: https://ko-fi.com/tworavenpodcastFollow us for updates or send us a message on Instagram:Instagram: (@TwoRavensPodcast): https://www.instagram.com/tworavenspodcast/Check out David's writing: Walled Garden (https://thewalledgarden.com/davidalexander)Our podcast is part of The Walled Garden Podcast Network. S5E13 Volsung Poems: The Poems of Brynhild and Gudrun (Part 4) David continues his series of not so short solo episodes, deep diving into the Poems of the Poetic Edda which inspired the Saga of the Volsungs. This is the story of the meeting of the hero with the beloved. The Valkyrie. I had to analyze the tragedy of Tristan and Iseult to find the archetypes which may be at play with the meeting of the hero with the beloved, and the meaning of the love triangle where the hero betrays his first love, in order to attempt to make an earthly love work. Is Sigurd "heartless" in his betrayal? Powerless to the dark agreements of others? Or does he have an acceptance of fate that is difficult for us to fathom? This episode explores the poems focusing on the meeting of Sigurd with his beloved and the tragedy when he finds himself with both Brynhild and Gudrun in love with him.Gripir's prophecyThe "short" poem of SigurdA fragment about Sigurd The First Poem of GudrunBrynhild's Ride to HellThe Saga of Volsung gives a convoluted meeting of Sigurd with Brynhild. Gripir's Prophecy gives what I find to be an oversimplified version. The other poems give multiple possible meetings as we attempt to sort out what was the most likely meeting and what did the earliest authors intend to be the meeting.I also contrast the Norse Version of the archetypal meeting of the hero and the beloved, which is filled with Shadow, Cursed Fate, and Insecurities, with the ideal meeting from Shahname, the Persian Book of Kings.Writing this episode has helped me a great deal to understand a relatively coherent and tragic story of Sigurd following his fate and playing out the curse of Andvari and Fafnir's gold. And I have gained a great deal of respect and understanding for Gudrun. I hope you enjoy coming along on the journey and I will return to the poems of Gudrun and Atli in the near future.Ways to support us:If you have been enjoying our show, please write a 5 star review on itunes to help spread our podcast to a wider audience:https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/between-two-ravens-a-norse-mythology-podcast/id1604263830Buy Shawn and David a Beer or Coffee: https://ko-fi.com/tworavenpodcastFollow us for updates or send us a message on Instagram:Instagram: (@TwoRavensPodcast): https://www.instagram.com/tworavenspodcast/Check out David's writing: Walled Garden (https://thewalledgarden.com/davidalexander)Our podcast is part of The Walled Garden Podcast Network. Next in Media spoke with Michael Pollack Managing Director, Digital Media Solutions at Epsilon, about why marketers don't like spending all their dollars with a few digital giants, and how relying on a single cookie replacement won't cut it in a signal loss world.Takeaways:• Challenges of Walled Gardens:A logged-in world dominated by walled gardens (like Google and Facebook) limits marketers' ability to understand and engage customers fully. • Unified View of Customers: Epsilon's "One View, Vision, and Voice" strategy emphasizes creating a comprehensive customer understanding by resolving disparate identifiers into a single identity for more effective engagement.• Identity Resolution: Relying solely on email or singular identifiers is insufficient. A robust identity solution, like Epsilon's with nine forms of identification, ensures accuracy and adaptability despite industry changes.• AI Integration: AI, when combined with strong data foundations, enables personalized, predictive marketing across open web channels, addressing gaps left by static methods like retargeting with outdated ads.• Importance of Incremental Reach: Brands grow by reaching new audiences rather than over-targeting existing ones. • Balancing Privacy and Personalization: While privacy is critical, personalization strengthens customer relationships. • Adaptability to Signal Loss: Solutions must address the decline of third-party cookies, unreliable IP/device IDs, and other signal losses. Guest: Michael PollackHost: Mike ShieldsProducer: FEL Creative

Next in Media spoke with Joe Doran Chief Product Officer at Epsilon, about whether we're likely to see a slew of walled garden anti-trust battles, why brands need to prepare for a world with less data regardless of what happens with cookies, and whether AI is taking over media buying.Takeaways:Consumer Choice and PrivacyThe industry's focus is shifting toward respecting consumer choice and privacy, driven by regulatory scrutiny and evolving technology.Marketers must adapt strategies to align with a more privacy-conscious ecosystem.Post-Cookie StrategiesThe decline of third-party cookies necessitates investing in first-party data management.Marketers should leverage identity-based systems, data collaboration, and advanced technologies like AI to overcome tracking challenges.Adapting to Regulatory ChangesRegardless of political or regulatory changes, marketers must prepare for a consumer-centric privacy landscape.Businesses that hesitate to adapt risk falling behind in a rapidly evolving digital ecosystem.Retail Media GrowthRetail media networks are expanding rapidly, with major players like Amazon and Walmart leading the charge.Smaller retailers face challenges in aggregating and optimizing their media offerings, presenting opportunities for consolidation and innovation.AI in Media Planning and ExecutionAI is transforming media planning and buying by automating repetitive tasks and optimizing outcomes.Strategic decisions still rely on human input, but AI supports scalability and efficiency.Guest: Joe DoranHost: Mike ShieldsSponsor: VuePlannerProducer: FEL Creative

My hope is that this episode would be a good introduction for anyone who is not already following Shawn and I on our 2 year journey of exploring the myths of the Norse Gods and the hero Sagas of the Volsung family and Ragnar Lothbrook. My takeaway is that archetypes help us find meaning in life. Accept fate and things in life that are difficult to accept.
