This conversation is a vibrant and candid exploration of sexuality, gender, consent, and social activism, centered around Eve X and Sai's work with the Australian School of Sexuality (ASS Fest). The tone is playful, irreverent, and deeply intellectual, with the speakers using humor (particularly butt jokes) to disarm serious topics and create a sense of openness. They discuss complex themes including sacred sexuality, gender fluidity, disability, trauma-informed practices, and the challenges of running an educational platform about sexuality in a world of online censorship and conservative pushback. The discussion ranges widely from personal backgrounds and artistic projects to broader social and political issues, always underpinned by a core philosophy of love, consent, and breaking down barriers between different communities and approaches to sexuality. Eve X and Sai are passionate activists committed to creating inclusive, safe spaces for exploring human sexuality, challenging normative ideas, and promoting understanding across different modalities of sexual and embodied experience. Jane is joined by Tania Waring, a lawyer and advocate/care coordinator mum of three neurodiverse boys. Tania is very experienced in advocacy for her children to get what they need at school. Tania has also completed her honours in Psychology and is passionate about inclusive education and improving outcomes for children in the schooling system. Jane and Tania share personal experiences and highlight the need for more understanding and support from educators, as well as emphasising the importance of normalising these experiences and finding hope through the stories of others who have faced similar challenges. Tania also provides us with an insight into her passion of creating change within the school system to create a more inclusive environment and reduce the impact that schools have on children's self-esteem. *This episode specialises more in the externalising presentation of ADHD/ASD - which is seen more in boys than girls, but can occur in both genders. Where these kids are seen as 'disruptive' or 'problems.' * Episode Highlights:Þ Common challenges faced by families with children who have ADHD and autismÞ Pushing through the grief and adjustment required when realising that the school experience may be different from what was imaginedÞ The lack of accommodations and understanding within the Australian school systemÞ The detrimental effects of segregating children with learning differences and the perpetuation of negative attitudes towards differencesÞ Highlighting the issue of gatekeeping and suspensions in schools, especially for children with ADHD and autismÞ The pressure and lack of resources on teachers, which can lead to reactive responses and neglecting certain studentsÞ A discussion around schools being focused on managing students rather than providing adequate support, and gathering evidence to justify suspensions and expulsionsÞ Highlighting how change can occur when and where adults reflect on their actions and hold themselves accountable where appropriate within a child's meltdown If you found value in this episode, make sure to leave a review and reach out to Jane with a voice message here: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/jane-mcfadden/message--- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/jane-mcfadden/message

In this episode Jane and Jenny share their stories advocating for their daughters in the Australian school system. Both in public and private schools. What works, what doesn't and why the system fails our little girls. We cover everything from the over worked teachers under fire from parents, principals and the kids, the ratio of teachers aides in schools and how each school gets a different amount of funding. Is the Australian school system flawed at its core? Jenny talks about her 10 year old girl being given academic awards at school whilst having a complete mental health breakdown at home and how no one believed her it was happening. Thankfully this episode finishes on a positive note that Jenny's daughter has had a full recovery and how Jenny helped her overcome it. *Trigger warning, Jenny does briefly mention suicide ideation of her daughter* (However there is a happy ending)--- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/jane-mcfadden/message

In this episode I talk with Melbourne Rebels player Cameron Orr. We discuss his pathway to becoming an elite athlete and the importance of athlete journaling to help achieve those smaller goals or the 1%'s that add up to greater benefits over the long run. Cameron also talks about the importance of team journaling and how this can assist team performance by keeping teammates accountable to group goals.More recently Cameron started a business with Waratahs player Carlo Tizzano called ‘Elite Performance Journal' which provides both individual and team-based journals aimed at the young athlete wanting to forge a pathway to success and also the elite athletes wanting to add longevity onto their careers and stay at the top of their game. The key takeaways for me throughout this chat, were that Cameron has shown a growth mindset throughout his playing career. He made the Australian School boys after being selected in his (CAS) school association 2nd team and the NSW Schools 2nd team he never gave up or threw in the towel and let any disappointment drive him towards his next goal.He went wherever he would get an opportunity and made sure he learnt from those senior players around him for example a stint in Gloucester, England where he learnt of payers in the squad who had represented the British and Irish Lions as well as a great coach in Laurie Fisher. In a coach he looks for someone who is open to a chat and is honest about feedback and selections and gives each member of the team the same amount of respect no matter their role in the team be they a super star or a rookie. Sport is also meant to be fun and for that reason Cameron doesn't mind a bit of banter and being able to connect with his coaches away from the field. We also discuss what it meant to be presented with the “Spirit of Weary Dunlop” award in 2021 for being a great clubman and in Cameron's case an all-round good bloke. If you would like more information on the Elite performance journals you can visit the website listed below:https://eliteperformancejournal.com/Cameron is active on Linkedin under the name Cameron Orr and is also an administrator on the Facebook Group “Emerging Athlete Network”, which is a group designed to connect and educate Athletes and Coaches.

It was while working as an acting teacher and scouring scripts for relevant content her students could relate to, that Talia Rowley realised that maybe if you want something done you have to do it yourself. Meet Talia Rowley, Founder and Chief Writer of Script & Scribe Creations delivering Australian scripts for Australian kids with themes and language we can all relate to.Talia had tried it all when it came to extra-curricular activities but her mum was adamant that she just needed to find that one thing, that spark that would ignite the amazing fire she had inside her. What was that one thing? Acting of course.Taking classes at the Australian School of Performing Arts, Film and Television (ASPAFTV) Talia instantly found that fire. Graduating with a Bachelor of Film and Screen from Griffith University and a Diploma in Screen Acting from Screenwise Talia's journey then came full circle, returning to her first acting school as a teacher.Writing hundreds of scripts for her students to utilise in the classroom Talia unknowingly setting her off on her future path and what would lead to Script and Scribe Creations which launched October 2020.“For young people here in Australia doing courses and acting there was no material that was relevant for what they were facing here and the kind of challenges they were experiencing even in terms of the rhythm in which we speak. The challenge was finding stuff that was challenging and age appropriate and relevant to different age groups and being able to provide all of that in a one stop shop that teachers, parents and students knew would be exactly what they needed. It took a while but that's where it started, from just wanting to provide that resource."Talia also has a team or young writers helping her build the Script & Scribe catalogue. A school in Australia has banned trash cans on its premises to encourage students and staff to reduce waste. In Melbourne Girls' College (MGC), trash cans have been removed from classrooms and offices. They have been replaced with containers for paper, recyclable materials, and leftover food for compost. However, there will be sanitary waste containers in the school's restrooms. According to MGC Principal Karen Money, the school plans to reuse, recycle, or turn all the waste it produces into fertilizer by the end of 2020. Money mentioned that the school's sustainability team, which is composed of parents, staff, students, and community members, is responsible for creating the initiative. She believes that MGC is the first among high schools in Australia to try removing trash cans on campus. The principal hopes that the act will encourage parents to use more sustainable packaging for their children's school lunches. The school plans to give tokens to students who will bring reusable food containers, which can be redeemed for prizes and rewards. In addition to the goal of reducing waste on campus, the initiative also aims to cut the school's waste disposal costs.  In 2018, MGC spent almost $13,000 just for taking out trash from its premises. The school's plan garnered various reactions. Some people commented that the plan to remove campus trash cans will not really make a difference in the amount of trash because students will simply bring their trash home. However, most parents are supportive of the new initiative, with one even saying that she is proud that the school has a strong environmental policy.

Today on the Cloud Stories podcast I’m talking with Bernadette Schwerdt. Bernadette is the author of Secrets of Online Entrepreneurs: How Australia's Online Mavericks, Innovators and Disruptors Built Their Businesses ... And How You Can Too. Bernadette and I are both authors with Wiley Publishing. We publish books with real pages! Every month Wiley sends authors a newsletter about what other authors are doing and I when I read Bernadette had written a book on the topic of successful entrepreneurs – I thought it would be of interest to listeners of this podcast. So I approached her and she kindly agreed. We then played calendar games for a few months and finally I’m excited to share with you that she’s on the show! What I learnt from my conversation with Bernadette is that you don’t need a team of expert in what your business does e.g. if you sell wine you don’t need a sommelier, what you need is a hacker and a hustler.  I’ve been thinking about this quite a lot. In episode 11 of Cloud Stories I spoke with Tejaswi Raghurama at Pipemonk and his job title was Growth Hacker. I need to speak with someone and explore the growth hacker phenomena. Bernadette also shared that she learnt through her interviews that businesses needed to operate quickly and on a bootstring. If they were to fail they needed to fail forward.  Failing forward essentially means you turn your mistakes into stepping stones that move you forward. I hope that hearing about how other successful entrepreneurs have succeeded may help you in your own business. Bernadette is the director of The Australian School of Copywriting, an online training company specialising in the science and art of content marketing. She is the author of the best-selling manual “Writing for Profit” and of the new book “Secrets of Online Entrepreneurs” by Wiley Publishing. She is a columnist with the magazine Inside Small Business, an Ambassador Blogger for Australia Post, a lecturer in marketing and communications at leading universities around Australia and is in demand as a speaker on leadership, entrepreneurship and marketing. When she’s not working in marketing, she moonlights as an actor and appears regularly on TV in iconic shows such as Neighbours, Winners and Losers, Jack Irish and others. In fact I was watching Jack Irish the other night and a lawyer appeared who sounded exactly like Bernadette and I checked the credits and it was her! Jack Irish is a great Australian drama on the ABC at the moment – if you have the chance to watch it. Bernadette’s business The Australian School of Copywriting was formed in 2001, and has trained thousands of students in the art of copywriting. Specialising in providing real-world, practical techniques, students learn how copywriting can not only benefit their small business, but how it can become a main source of income. Here’s an extract from Secrets of Online Entrepreneurs – that I read during the podcast: Morris’s top 10 trends to watch: Lawyers/accountants/service industry Statutory paperwork and routine regulatory forms will all be completed digitally by 2025, leaving service providers to earn their fees, by selling their wisdom, intuition and feelings. As the sea of data rises and possibilities exponentially grow, we will be crying out for wise people to make sense and purpose out of all of it for us. We’ll be searching for experts who can let us know – in advance of use even knowing we need to know it – what to do about it or with it. That’s tomorrow’s service industry’s goldmine. That’s all about understanding and accessing accurate timely big data interpret it, analyse it and communicate it. That’s one of the reasons I invited Geni Whitehouse to be a guest on the show – episode 36 of Cloud Stories – to speak about the importance of communicating in everyday language that small business people understand. Today’s episode is kindly sponsored by Spotlight Reporting. I wanted to share with you a conversation I had during the week. I was speaking with a bookkeeper who had many freelance professionals from the same industry all on Xero. I explained to her that she could use the Spotlight Multi product and she could suck in all of the Xero organisations, and doing that she could rank them, visualise them, benchmark and consolidate them. Breaking that down, she could see the comparisons between revenue earned against cost of sales whether they were in line with the other business and potentially whether there were exceptions that needed further investigation. Using a tool like Spotlight Multi can help you sell your wisdom, your intuition and your feelings. You can graphically look at something and quickly see exceptions that can lead you to understand and react to trends in the business. This in turns improves your ability to manage the business.   Laugh like a drain   In this episode I talk to Bernadette about: Mad Men television series What is copywriting E-books vs books with real pages Importance of all employees to have an online presence which incorporates what they want to be known for How to develop high quality content and re-purpose it across platforms When an online business needs a copywriter How should a business engage a copywriter 7 steps to create a successful online business: purpose, people, planning, profit, positioning, profile, promotion Critical to understand the actual business you are in How Malcolm Turnbull made his millions – it may surprise you! The two people every online business needs is a hacker and a hustler Don’t be obsessed with perfection Fast and quick, think fast and fail forward  Resources mentioned in this interview https://www.shoesofprey.com/ http://au.whogivesacrap.org/  Connect with Bernadette Schwerdt Info@copyschool.com copyschool.com bernadetteschwerdt.com.au     Connect with Heather Smith Click here to sign up to my newsletter http://bit.ly/SignUp4Newsletter Listen to my podcast : http://cloud-stories.com/  Read my latest blog post : http://www.heathersmithsmallbusiness.com/blog/ Visit my website : www.heathersmithsmallbusiness.com  Book time with me heathersmithau.gettimely.com/book   Subscribe to my YouTube channel : https://www.YouTube.com/ANISEConsulting Follow me on Twitter: https://www.twitter.com/HeatherSmithAU Join my FaceBook page : https://www.facebook.com/HeatherSmithAU  Connect with me on LinkedIn : http://www.linkedin.com/in/HeatherSmithAU Add me to your circle on Google + https://plus.google.com/+HeatherSmithAU/posts

How to Create Copy That Sells with Bernadette Schwerdt Copywriting is not as easy as you may think. And it is vitally important to your business – from email messages to your website. Bernadette Schwerdt is a copywriting coach and expert. She is the managing director of the Australian School of Copywriting and teaches people the art of writing. Schwerdt defines copywriting as the art of selling through words - both written and spoken. Copywriting is the process of coming up with a message and making it as compelling as possible. Copywriting is important in all formats: pitches, phone calls, newsletters, brochures, website content, press releases, sales letters, email messages, etc. If the copywriting is not done well, then deals fall through and you lose clients/customers. When writing copy, ask the following questions: What do you sell? At what price point? How can people buy it? Also, there are many steps to take when copywriting. For example, make sure your headline drags people into your story and grabs their attention. Write copy that speaks to people and solves their problems. It is important to understand your target audience and their vernacular/conversational tone - write in the way they speak. Use all the tips offered by Bernadette Schwerdt to write the best copy possible to take your business to the next level and position yourself as a leader! In this episode of Business Brain Food you will learn: ** Definition of copywriting ** Benefits of learning how to write copy ** Cost to hire copywriters ** What constitutes as copywriting items ** Copywriting process and rules ** Importance of headlines, offers, call to action, testimonials, etc. ** Copywriting mistakes Resources mentioned in this episode: ** Bernadette Schwerdt: bernadetteschwerdt.com.au ** Secrets of Online Entrepreneurs: bernadetteschwerdt.com.au/buy-the-book ** Australian School of Copywriting: copyschool.com ** ActionCOACH Session: businessassessment.com.au ** DiSC: discprofile.com ** Voice Memos: itunes.apple.com/us/app/voice-memos-for-ipad ** The Diamond Cutter: amazon.com/The-Diamond-Cutter-Managing-Business Take a look at copy writting for your business Does it grab your attention?
