Send Kevin a Text MessageIn this episode of Don't Kill the Messenger, host Kevin Goetz welcomes Bob Cooper, the influential executive who helped transform HBO from a movie channel into a creative powerhouse, producing landmark films like The Josephine Baker Story and Barbarians at the Gate, and who later shaped the theatrical landscape as President of Tri-Star Pictures and head of development and production at Dreamworks, where he championed American Beauty. From prosecuting organized crime in Montreal to greenlighting American Beauty, Bob's career is a lesson in reinvention and risk-taking.Finding Your "And" (00:28): Bob traces his winding path from studying acting at the Pasadena Playhouse to law school to founding Canada's first storefront legal aid office to prosecuting organized crime to hosting a national investigative news program. The Birth of HBO Originals (14:47): When his early Canadian film production company collapsed, Bob flew to New York in desperation and pitched HBO on making original movies, starting with The Terry Fox Story. No Vanilla Allowed (19:34): Bob developed a strategy of bold, true-story-based films that couldn't be seen in theaters or on network TV. The Josephine Baker Story became the blueprint. The Projects Nobody Wanted (22:29): Bob consistently bet on the projects others passed on, championing films like And the Band Played On, Barbarians at the Gate, and The Positively True Adventures of the Alleged Texas Cheerleader-Murdering Mom.Tristar and Jerry Maguire (28:26): Bob shares how he helped crack the marketing code on Jerry Maguire by identifying its core theme as "a comedy about not selling out.”Dreamworks and American Beauty (37:22): At Dreamworks, Bob got Steven Spielberg to read a script that was almost impossible to pitch – American Beauty. Spielberg read it overnight, called a meeting the next morning, and immediately declared it "an Academy movie."Meet the Parents and the Spielberg Phone Call (41:25): Bob spotted an unmade script at Universal called Meet the Parents and brought it to Spielberg, who simply picked up the phone and called Edgar Bronfman on the spot to acquire it.What Makes Stories Universal (47:15): Bob shares his deepest creative philosophy: that pain is the engine of every great story, including comedy. He closes with a moving account of his current stage project about Bobby Kennedy.Bob Cooper's career is a reminder that unconventional paths often lead to the most enduring work. This week on the 50kg Drop, Bob celebrates 90 days sugar-free and a huge milestone: 33.1kg (≈73lb / 5.25 stone) down from 184.2kg to 151.1kg. With coach Mike Collins, we unpack why the inner “voices” often get louder right after a big win—and how to answer them without reaching for sugar or alcohol. We get practical about:Post-milestone wobble: why day 91 can feel trickier than day 9, and the difference between awareness and action.Birthday & Christmas boundaries: choosing one celebratory meal vs. a “blowout,” and why timing matters.Sober socialising: learning pubs, football, and nights out without the pint—leaving early, stating boundaries, and enjoying the next morning.Stress & triggers: train-station binges, “treat after sport,” childhood wiring, and swapping numbing for noticing.Exercise without obsession: using movement to support, not to mask, the emotional work.Dad energy & identity: aiming beyond a number—being a present, healthy father and reversing old self-talk.Accountability that works: becoming each other's “loving mirror” when the voices get loud.Mike explains how alcohol often reignites sugar cravings, why many people relapse right before big anniversaries, and how to rebuild daily control through simple, repeatable habits. Bob reframes the goal: 50kg was the headline—peace, control, and self-respect are the destination. If you're fresh off a win and suddenly tempted, this one's for you.Host: Ian Wellman, Bob Cooper, Mike Collinsweight loss, sugar free, sobriety, cravings, mindset, fatherhood, accountability, fitness, emotional eating, habit change, Mike Collins, 50kg Drop, day 91, 33kg downIf this helped, follow/subscribe, leave a review, and share with a mate who's on their own drop.Join the 50kg & Zero % Drop Podcast for Inspiring Weight Loss, Sugar Addiction Recovery, and Sobriety Stories!Discover powerful strategies and real-life success stories focused on losing 50kg without setbacks. In this raw and revealing episode of the 50kg Drop Podcast, hosts Ian Wellman, Bob Cooper, Mike Collins, and John T. Craven dive deep into their transformative weight loss journeys on the carnivore diet and sugar-free living. Kicking off with a hilarious original jingle about ditching curry cravings for running shoes, the crew celebrates a massive milestone: over 50kg (110lbs) dropped combined in under three months. Bob shares his 31.8kg (5 stone) triumph, revealing a game-changing mental shift—no more diet rebound fears, just sustained peace and optimism. "I'm not counting down to break; I'm locked in for longevity," he says.Mike breaks down his steady 32kg progress toward a 16-stone ideal, emphasizing pain-free gliding through the early weeks and the freedom from constant cravings. But the real talk heats up on relapse risks: Should you reintroduce greens, alcohol, or even a single pint? The group unpacks the dangers of flavored liquids sparking sugar urges, drawing from Mike's expertise on fructose in veggies and the "conga line" of temptations that follow one slip. Ian opens up about self-sabotage amid stress—from music festivals to impending fatherhood—admitting how booze snowballs into chaos, costing a full week to reset. "That noise in your head? It's gone on carnivore—don't let it back in."John drops a curveball: After four months sugar-free, he's pivoted to calorie-counted veggies and lean proteins, accelerating his loss toward an 85kg goal by Christmas. But his bold plan to "drink responsibly" with single vodkas sparks fierce debate on sober curiosity, peer pressure, and the delusion of controlled drinking. Mike challenges the mental gymnastics: "This isn't about food or booze—it's emotional worthiness and healing the why behind the weight."Packed with actionable advice on mental freedom, carnivore longevity, and dodging holiday pitfalls, this episode is essential for anyone tackling obesity, addiction recovery, or sustainable fat loss. Thanks to our Partners, NAPA TRACS, Today's Class, KUKUI, and Pit Crew Loyalty Watch Full Video Episode The Karen Cooper Foundation, founded by Bob Cooper and his daughter Michele, honors the legacy of Bob's late wife, Karen, by bringing Christmas joy to shelter dogs through toys and treats. What began as a family tradition in San Diego has grown into a nationwide nonprofit, gifting thousands of dogs each year while raising awareness for adoption and responsible pet ownership. As a 501(c)(3) charity, every donation goes directly to the animals, providing enrichment, comfort, and hope until they find their forever homes. The foundation's roots trace back to an annual tradition Karen and Bob started years ago. Inspired by Karen's question, “What happens with all these dogs on Christmas morning?” she suggested, “Why don't we bring Christmas to them?”—sparking a mission that continues today. In 2023, after life-changing events including Bob's sale of Elite Worldwide and the heartbreaking loss of Karen in a Memorial Day weekend car accident, Bob and Michele formalized the foundation to honor and celebrate Karen's legacy. The Karen Cooper Foundation operates with three key goals: Bring Christmas joy to shelter dogs, ensuring they experience the magic of the holiday.Raise awareness about adoption, helping dogs and puppies find their forever homes.Honor Karen's legacy, keeping her spirit alive through every act of giving. Welcome back to the Proper True Yarn Podcast, where the yarns are big, the laughs are louder, and the true stories? Well, they're as wild as they come. This week, we're joined by the legend himself, Jeff Perot, who's got a stack of tales from the outback—and this one is full of snakes, scares, and a bloody hilarious cockatoo caper.First up, Jeff tells us the story of Fred Waterson and a run-in with a ten-foot black-headed python. Fred's fear of snakes is no match for Jeff's sense of humor, as he tricks Fred into getting up close and personal with the snake in an old mailbag. But things take a wild turn when Fred gets the shock of his life, sending the truck swerving through a tight corner and stripping both side mirrors off. Fred's terror and Jeff's storytelling? Unforgettable. Then, we move on to a yarn from Jeff's boxing days, where he was thrown into the ring with McGill the Gorilla—a fight that might have been rigged, but not in the way Jeff had planned. With help from his mate Doughy, a former light heavyweight champion, Jeff takes us through a series of wild moves and codes in the ring, teaching us all that boxing (and life) isn't always what it seems. And to top it all off, there's a story about Bob Cooper and his lost cockatoo. When the bird escapes, Jeff and his mate Peter find themselves with an unexpected guest... until Bob comes back from holiday and wants to reward them for their "rescue" efforts. But what Jeff didn't count on was the cockatoo's true fate. It's a yarn with a twist and some classic outback humor. It's another cracker of an episode from Jeff, filled with unexpected turns, laughs, and a whole lot of adventure. How Do We Move Forward Deploying AI for New Product Development with Bob Cooper

Today, Paul and guest Bob Cooper look deeply into the deployment of artificial intelligence in new product development. The discussion revolves around the challenges of successfully implementing AI projects, the high failure rates, and the potential solutions to overcome these hurdles. They also discuss how AI transforms product innovation and process improvements across various industries, with insights drawn from Bob Cooper's extensive research and practical experiences. Bob Cooper, the founder of the Stage-Gate® methodology, is a renowned expert in new product development and innovation management. With decades of experience, he has been instrumental in refining processes businesses use to navigate the complexities of bringing new products to market. As a prolific author and a thought leader, his work continues to influence how organizations harness technological advancements like artificial intelligence to stay competitive. Cooper's blend of theoretical knowledge and hands-on expertise makes him a valuable resource for understanding the intricacies of AI in product development. "Imagine AI not as a replacement, but as an augmentation of human capabilities. With the right balance, AI can drive unprecedented innovation in product development." ~ Bob Cooper Today on Innovation Talks: ·     AI project failures often mimic traditional product development failures, with up to 80% of projects floundering due to poor technical understanding and misjudgment of user needs.·     The misinformation from vendors and promotional blogs significantly contributes to the high failure rate of AI projects.·     Successful AI deployment frequently parallels the Stage-Gate® processes used in traditional product development, highlighting the need for structured project management.·     Data quality is as crucial to AI as material quality is to manufacturing physical products; insufficient or poor-quality data undermines AI performance.·     While AI's role in product innovation is substantial, its impact is even more significant in process improvements, facilitating everything from idea generation to market launches.·     Trust and readiness to adopt AI are major hurdles; many companies are reluctant to rely fully on AI for decision-making, preferring human oversight.·     The financial sector has adopted AI more rapidly than product development industries, indicating a sector-specific readiness and application of AI technologies.·     Personal and professional AI literacy is essential; proficiency with tools like ChatGPT can significantly boost productivity and innovation capabilities.   Guest Contact Information: Website: www.bobcooper.cahttp://www.bobcooper.ca/ Resources Mentioned: http://www.bobcooper.ca/articles/artificial-intelligence-in-npd Rapid model: Roadmap for AI Implementation and Deploymenthttps://www.linkedin.com/pulse/adopting-artificial-intelligence-new-product-rapid-model-cooper-wze4eStage-Gate® methodologyhttps://www.stage-gate.com/blog/the-stage-gate-model-an-overview/Siemens software for digital twin technologyhttps://www.siemens.com/global/en/company/stories/industry/the-digital-twin.htmlChatGPT for idea generation and campaign strategieshttps://chatgpt.com/Resources: Bob Cooper's published books on innovation and new product developmenthttps://www.amazon.com/stores/Robert-G.-Cooper/author/B001IGOJG6?ref=ap_rdr&isDramIntegrated=true&shoppingPortalEnabled=true  This Podcast is brought to you by Sopheon Thanks for tuning into this week's episode of Innovation Talks. Buy Mitch a Coffee account.venmo.com/u/Mitch-Hampton-1 Listeners, today we get to share our talk with music LEGEND, Pete Christlieb!  We are so very honored to have him on our show and hope you enjoy and share it with us! Inside this Episode with your host, Mitch Hampton Pete Christlieb has been among my favorite saxophonists and all around musicians for the past forty to fifty years at least. His biography reads like a who's who in jazz and popular music and he has excelled at having an original identity as a jazz improviser as well as one of the top flight performers in ensemble contexts, whether big back, symphony or rock group. Christlieb has been working as a musician since he left high school at age 16 and has so many great stories about his unique career. It was an honor to get to sit down with him and talk about his life and music and I hope you get as much joy from this episode as we did recording it. Pete Christlieb Biography Born into a home filled with classical music, there was littlequestion about Pete Christlieb's career path. Pete's father, Don Christlieb was a world renowned double reed player. His distinctive sound was heard on more than 750 productions over 50 years at 20th Century Fox. Pete started working professionally just out of High School. He did gigs at the Lighthouse as a sub for his teacher Bob Cooper. His father took Pete to The Carriage House in Burbank, (Later renamed to Chadnies) to sit in with pianist Jimmy Rowles. Jimmy liked his playing and became a big influence on Pete's conception. Jimmy trained Pete in his unique approach to jazz, inviting him to come by and sit in on Sundays. Sarah Vaughan came in to perform several times. They became friends for many years. He met Carmen McRae and was able to play and record with her too. It was a seven year sprint. “It was like swinging from one vine to the next. one band would end and the next would begin.” Pete was ready for a change. He had been playing with Louie Bellson “He was like a father and a best friend,” Pete said of his association with Bellson. In those days serial TV shows would vacation in other towns during the summer, mostly to get out of New York. Carson would take the Tonight Show to Los Angeles.” Carson productions was looking for musicians to fill out the band stand in Los Angles and asked Louie for some players to come in. He recommended Christlieb for the two week gig and again the next year. Pete is well known for his albums with other tenor sax greats Bob Cooper, Warne Marsh, Gene Ammons, Don Lamphere, Hadley Caliman, Ferdinand Polvel, Ernie Watts & Rickey Woodard. Pete produced records for other artists including Louie Bellson, Don't Stop Now which earned him one of three Grammy Nominations for best jazz soloist. He recorded an album with Freddy Hubbard. and has featured solos on Records and CDs like Natalie Cole's “ Unforgettable.” The TV show, Family Guy featuring the Ron Jones Orchestra was recently added to his long list of credits. Pete continues to record with well-known musicians and recording artists. Pete plays in his own quintet with wife Linda on trombone. “I need to create an audience for classical music.”   Cellist Jan Dixon has carved an incredible career out for herself as not only a member of the Reading Symphony Orchestra, assistant conductor of the Reading Youth Symphony Orchestra and director of the Orchestra Zone program but also as an inspirational music educator in the Berks County area.   Luckily for the musical youth of Berks County, Jan was able to overcome an ill-fated encounter with a soda a bottle she was made to play in her elementary general music class which eventually steered her away from wind instruments and led her to the cello.   Jan relays stories of Louis Vyner, Wes Fisher “the musical father of all of us in Berks County” as well as her inspirational co-workers at Governor Mifflin like Skip Norcott, Paul Cusano, Bob Cooper and Kathryn Fellman. Jan also credits Paul's wife, Ann Cusano with helping her find her first teaching job in Norristown.   This episode is chock full of other great stories harkening back to days of live music her grandfather played for silent movies, smoke-filled audition rooms and secrets revealed as to how her parents finally got her to practice.

Bill's previous episodes https://remarkableresults.biz/?s=greeno (HERE) Key Talking Points The consumer panel- you're ideal customers, 3 from the dealership, 3 from independent   No matter how well your customers love you, they could love you like a rainbow, but there are some things that they will never ever tell you. How do we get inside of their minds and how do we learn? What's really important to them? How much a technician mechanic makes per hour? We need to get the perception and reality that people need to know you can earn a really good income in this industry  Be aware that you're gonna have a lot of customers that come in and may never come back if they smell smoke on your advisor or on any of your people and in their car. It's all marketing- align your image. Use surveys and programs to tell you what is important to customers Would you say mechanic, or would you say a technician?  Both of those terms, mechanic and technician, have a role in our industry.  A technician is a person employed to look after technical equipment or do practical work in a laboratory, an expert in a practical application of science or a person skilled in the technique of an art or craft technician. Examples of technicians are theatrical technicians, school, laboratory technicians, engineering technicians, laboratory technicians, electronics technicians, x-ray technicians. Mechanic is defined as an artisan skilled tradesperson who uses tools to build, maintain, or repair machinery The more we could bring the, the communication and the understanding between the customers and the technicians and the industry closer together, the more successful we'll be, and when it comes to SEO, just imagine what's gonna happen to the shop owners that start embedding mechanic What are some of the things that you could do to really. Attract superstars and keep them.  Retention, recruiting (24/7), apprenticeship programs Looking at other successful industries and how to you mimic it? Money is not the best motivator- you'll never give your employees enough, think beyond dollars and cents Behavior that's rewarded will continue, random rewards bring consistent behavior Hiring the right people- hire for what they know (skill), fire for who they are as a person #1 Competitive Base Pay (base income, uniforms, training, vacations, paid holidays, etc.) #2 Opportunistic income (Productivity pay) #3 Exemplary Performance Rewards (Going above and beyond their job responsibilities both at work and in their personal life) #4 Security- when you hire Larry, you are also hiring Mary (Health Insurance,401K, business cards, etc.) #5 Reward for Tenure (not loyalty, loyalty is your spirituality, nationality etc. Calling your employees and customers loyal is being assumptive)- (Anniversary rewards, Retirement programs, vacation packages, becoming involved with the integration decision making of business  etc.) #6 Leadership (provided by the owner)- are you just default providing (I'm the boss)? Do you have a vision for the future and are focused on goals with growth opportunities? Growing on a lattice, not a ladder. Bob Cooper, Founder/President of Elite Worldwide Inc. A native Ohioan, Bob started his career as a technician in a struggling, Cleveland Ohio shop that he later purchased and build into one of the most successful shops in America. As a successful shop owner and experienced drag racer, in Cleveland, he started a second business and began doing performance driveline work for many of the nation's top fuel racers. It wasn't long after he and his family sold their Cleveland home and businesses, loaded up their race car, and moved to southern California where he developed shops that gained national recognition. Having a passion to help other shop owners, in 1990 he founded Elite; the industry leader in helping shop owners build more profitable, successful businesses, that allow them to reach their personal goals, and elevate the industry at the same time. Bob was one of the first to predict the dealership's plan to target the service business, he predicted the trend toward maintenance, the explosive growth in remanufactured components, and the trend in leasing. He is also the creator of the most commonly used sales procedures used by the top service advisors in America. He has been nominated for entry into “Who's Who in American Business”, he is a member of the prestigious National Speakers Association, he is recognized as one of the nation's leading authorities on both personal and career success, and he is committed to the principle of never putting money ahead of people. In addition to speaking at many of the major industry events, he has spoken worldwide to many Fortune 500 companies, private banking groups, universities and the United States Army. Listen to Bob's other episodes https://remarkableresults.biz/?s=%22bob+cooper%22 (HERE) Key Talking Points Why we all need to have clearly defined goals- establish your goals for the next year. Only 3% have defined goals. People that have goals are happier, healthier, and live longer lives. They earn on average twice the income vs the people who don't have goals. Most people don't know what they don't know- 97% of people talk about their day-to-day lives and don't talk about goals. People also don't know how to set goals, fear of failure and fear of rejection.  We are born with 2 genetic fears- falling and fear of loud noises, all other fears are developed fears. Many are faced with a fear of public speaking, which is a developed fear as well.   Was the day successful or not successful with reaching goals Short-term goals are not used for economic gain- the purpose is to change the behavior of people. Make yourself wonder what you could do differently to reach the goal next time. Short-term goals should be daily goals. In order for short-term goals to effectively influence behavior, they only need to be reached 51% of the time. Monthly goals- the problem is you're only rewarded for hitting that goal once every 30 days. You also risk slowing down if reaching the goal early or giving up if not close to hitting goal.  Increasing sales 15% - set daily sale goals and daily car count goals, always make sure they are tracked in descending not ascending way. If your goal is $5,000 for the day and you sell $1,500, draw a line through $5,000 and rewrite $3,500. It is a new adjusted goal. Goals should always be in front of you instead of what you've accomplished.  Write your core beliefs, what are the things that are most important to you? 8-10 core beliefs. Look at it 2-3 days later and constantly work on it for the next month. You cant set effective goals if you don't first know who you are as a person. Share your goals with a spouse/someone who fully supports you, find the common goals together. “Give up goals” can be shared with everyone.   Hiring employees is like getting married. Getting married is easy, staying married is hard. Don't let your employee “fall out of love” with what they are doing. Don't be afraid to set...

But things were starting to go full circle. And there was excitement around the expanded band with stations like WJDM on 1660 (later ), WCMQ on 1700 kHz.

Bem-vindo! --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/boia/message

In his spare time, Marcus enjoys cycling, anything involving the Sierra Nevada, and shuttling teenagers to various sport and school activities. Talking points: Started sweeping floors in a shop in NAPA, CA after college and became the manager of the shop Found a shop in their town, a going concern that needs a bunch of TLC The shop was next to the state capitol building. At The Half Note Cafe, Vols. ~ Michael G. Coop!
