Welcome to your weekly UAS News Update. We have 4 stories for you this week. Zipline expands its drone delivery service into Texas through a partnership with Walmart, NASA is developing a new system designed to predict drone hazards before they happen, Pierce Aerospace has deployed drone detectors to the US Border, and BRINC raises $75m.First up this week, Zipline is bringing its drone delivery service to the Dallas area, starting in Mesquite, Texas. This expansion comes through a partnership with retail giant Walmart. Customers in the service area can now sign up to get orders delivered in about 30 minutes using Zipline's latest drone model, the P2 Zip.The drone can carry payloads up to eight pounds within a 10-mile radius. Zipline boasts about their precision, claiming "dinner plate-level" accuracy, meaning they can land a package on a space as small as a doorstep or a small table. The P2 Zip uses both lift and cruise propellers and has a fixed-wing design, which helps it fly quietly and handle gusts of wind up to 45 miles per hour, even in the rain. The delivery process is interesting: the P2 Zip hovers around 300 feet up, then lowers a smaller container, called the 'delivery zip,' on a tether. This smaller unit uses fan-like thrusters to maneuver precisely into place before gently setting the package down. Both parts use cameras, sensors, and Nvidia chips to navigate and avoid obstacles.Next up, NASA is working on making drone flights safer with an advanced software system designed to predict potential airborne hazards *before* they actually occur. It's called the In-Time Aviation Safety Management System, or IASMS for short. The main idea behind IASMS is real-time risk assessment. Instead of just reacting when something goes wrong, like a loss of navigation or communication, the system aims to anticipate these kinds of threats and alert drone operators ahead of time.Michael Vincent from NASA's Langley Research Center put it simply, saying the system ideally works unnoticed in the background, only intervening right before an unusual situation might arise. NASA has been putting IASMS through its paces. Back on March 5th, they ran extensive simulations at the Ames Research Center. These focused on complex scenarios like hurricane relief missions involving multiple drones doing things like beyond-visual-line-of-sight supply drops and inspections.Next up, Pierce Aerospace just announced a partnership with a company called Skylark Labs, bringing some next-level drone detection tech to the US-Mexico border and beyond. Basically, they've put Pierce's YR1 Remote ID Sensor and other drone detection sensors on Skylark's 100-foot Scout Tower, alongside this tech they are calling "Superintelligence AI."What makes this setup special is that the AI actually learns in real-time from the data it collects in the field, rather than relying on pre-programmed stuff that might be outdated. The system can detect, track, and identify drones and other potential threats, giving border security and law enforcement a much better picture of what's happening both in the air and on the ground. Last up, Seattle-based drone manufacturer BRINC secured $75m in new funding and announced a strategic alliance with Motorola Solutions. The alliance integrates BRINC drones with Motorola's APX radios, VESTA 911 call management systems, Computer Aided Dispatch, and Real-Time Crime Center Software. This means that drones could get dispatched automatically.Join us later for happy hour in the community. We are also BACK for the live Q&A on Monday after a 3-week hiatus due to the move and travel. devocional Lucas leitura bíblica Menos os fariseus e os especialistas na Lei, que rejeitavam o plano de Deus e recusavam o batismo de João. When Captain Don Redmond retired from the Chula Vista Police Department in 2022, he had nearly 26 years of experience in everything from SWAT responses to jail command, and was ready to bid law enforcement goodbye. But after joining BRINC, a drone company that specializes in public safety, he became vice president of special projects there, and has been a promoter of using drones as first responders (DFRs) ever since. In this episode of The Big REthink, Redmond joins host Susan Campbell to share some of the ways in which drones are improving safety outcomes and supporting police departments, including de-escalation, accelerated response times, and reducing officers' workload at a time when staffing is a challenge. Finally, he describes the tech-enabled future he envisions (drones are key, and so is a real-time response system) for safer communities.
Blake Resnick built a fusion reactor in his garage at age 14, and interned at McLaren Automotive, Tesla, and DJI, before dropping out of Northwestern University in 2017 to launch drone startup Brinc. Support our podcast: www.thereadinesslab.com/dtp-linksDevelopments in technology are usually driven by the desire to make processes and life, in general, more effective. The efforts of today's guest in the Disaster Toug Podcast, Blake Resnick, are no exception. Blake is the Founder and CEO of BRINC. In the short period of six years, BRINC drones have been deployed by over 250 public safety agencies around the world with the purpose of initiating contact with victims of disaster, and in doing so, saving the lives of both the victims themselves, and the emergency responders who would normally put themselves at risk in an effort to find those victims. Some of the disasters in which BRINC Drones have been utilized for this purpose include the Surfside Building Collapse in 2021, the recent earthquake in Turkey, along with the current crisis in Ukraine, and many others.Blake's idea to find a way to better utilize technology for emergency response dates back to the 2017 mass shooting at a concert in his hometown of Las Vegas. During that incident, there were numerous conflicting reports that hindered the effectiveness of emergency responders and potentially put them at risk. In this episode, Blake talks about how he believes technology could improve those efforts and make them more effective. He also explains how he and his company plan to work toward overcoming the many hurdles that still stand in the way of this vision becoming a reality. He also goes into more detail about other products that BRINC Is developing or already utilizing to improve emergency response. A barricaded suspect, possibly armed awaits inside his home. There may be a booby trap, or there may be hostages. After a shot is fired, the decision to send someone inside – or should we say, a drone – is made. Law enforcement is getting some interesting technology to help in tactical situations where our only options previously were to wait out the suspect in a siege or to send in officers. On this episode of Policing Matters, host Jim Dudley speaks with Blake Resnick, the CEO and founder of drone technology company BRINC, and returning guest, Don Redmond, retired Chula Vista (California) Police Department Captain and BRINC Vice President of Advanced Public Safety Projects, about the recent release of the BRINC LEMUR 2 drone and how sUAS systems are assisting law enforcement tactical response. If you could design a drone specifically for public safety agencies, what would it look like? Blake Resnick is CEO and Founder of BRINC. BRINC designs, manufactures and sells sUAS systems to public safety departments worldwide. The company's flagship product, the LEMUR, employs innovative solutions designed specifically for public safety and emergency situations. Using lidar technology, the drone flies indoors with precision and unprecedented agility, and its two-way communication system allows first responders to hear and see through the drone. But this only scratches the surface of the drone's capabilities. Blake has the innate ability to define a problem, imagine a new approach and create a technology-based solution. He started taking college courses at the age of 14, and then attended Northwestern's McCormick School of Engineering. Before launching BRINC, Blake worked at McLaren Automotive, Tesla Motors, and DJI. He's a member of the Thiel Fellowship's class of 2020. Under Blake's leadership, in just 2 ½ years, BRINC has become a leader of public safety UAS solutions worldwide. He is currently working on an sUAS mesh system designed to respond to gunshot detections and 911 calls within seconds. When not enveloped in product development, he actively engages in recruiting, strategy development, internal communication, and fundraising. In this episode of the Drone Radio Show, Blake talks about BRINC drones, in particular it's revolutionary LEMUR drone and he provides insights into how the company has become successful in supporting the mission of hundreds of public safety organizations around the world.
Join Greg & Haye in talking with Blake Resnick the founder of BRINC drones. They discuss how the LEMUR2 came about, challenges for BRINC going forward, and how Blake ended up starting BRINC Drones. The PiXL Drone Show is a partnership between Pilot Institute (PI) and DroneXL (XL).
This week in drone news we have four stories for you; A new drone announcement from Brinc, TN law to ban non-NDAA drones from government uses, a New FAA CBO, and a potential new drone from DJI.
Life's a pitch and you need to nail this skill for basically everything you do in life, says Bryony Cooper. Her life story is both unusual and impressive: She stepped up to the mic early as a professional singer, which gave her the communications skills and stage presence to successfully pitch her first tech startup. After building several startups, she became a VC and currently is the Managing Partner at Arkley Brinc VC. In her experience, pitching and communications are superpowers that founders need to master. Rather than just focusing on the financial aspects of building businesses, Bryony is on mission to help early-stage startup founders to navigate the many challenges that come with building and growing a business. Bryony's love for singing never vanished. She is now the lead singer of BC & the VCs, a Berlin-based band comprised of tech investors and founders including Christoph Raethke and Julius Bachmann. This week in drone news: Texas law 423 has been found unconstitutional by a federal judge, a recreational pilot in New York was fined more than $15,000, an update from our travels to the Texas Public Safety Robot Response Summit, and an upcoming South Florida Drone Meetup. Texas Drone law 423 was ruled unconstitutional by a federal judge The law restricted drone use and distribution of images captured via drones. “The challenged Texas statutes prohibited legitimate newsgathering that causes no harm, and unconstitutionally drew distinctions that disallowed journalistic drone photography but allowed the exact same drone photography when done for other favored purposes. Judge Pitman properly found that these distinctions were improper and that the statutes were so vague as to be unconstitutional.” https://petapixel.com/2022/03/30/stringent-texas-anti-drone-law-overturned-in-federal-court/ A drone pilot from NYC was fined by the FAA over 15k last December. The pilot stated they were operating under 44809 but did not meet the requirements. The operator was issued a $15,205 fine. The FAA issued fines for three flights, including 107.12, No remote pilot certificate, 107.13, drone not registered, 107.19(c) Posing a hazard to people, aircraft or property, 107.23(a) Flying at night without a waiver (Prior to new rules), 107.29(a) Flying over people without a waiver (Prior to new rules), 107.41 Flying in controlled airspace without authorization, 107.65 No 24 month recency of knowledge. Brinc Drones and ICOR robotics have partnered to save lives. This partnership will enable ICOR robots to deploy Brinc aircraft into structures.

A one-of-a-kind drone that can be used in law enforcement, firefighting, SWAT operations, and much, much more... Today's show is a special one as we are joined by Angad from Brinc Drones who explains to us the powerful capabilities of their newest drone, Lemur. Lemur is a public safety drone with a difference. This heavily accessorized drone can be used as a law enforcement drone, as a firefighting drone, and by SWAT teams to conduct their operations with greater efficiency and safety. One of the biggest USPs of this drone is its ability to fly in confined spaces. This Lidar-based drone comes with night vision and can be repaired easily in case you ram it into a wall. And that's not all. You can even break glass, drop payloads, and open doors with the Lemur. The Lemur is powered by a Li-ion battery - which gives you a longer flight time. And is a far safer option compared to LiPo batteries. So, don't miss this special show. Tune in to learn more about this pathbreaking product designed by BRINC drones! Incredibly grateful to have been chosen to present the "Building Your MVP" module of City University of Hong Kong's HK Tech 300, a large-scale flagship innovation and entrepreneurship program organized for aspiring entrepreneurs among CityU students, alumni, research staff, and others to launch start-ups and ignite their entrepreneurship journey. Some important points about MVPs (Minimum Viable Products) -Talk to your users before you build your MVP -Identify assumptions you need your MVP to test - build just enough to test those assumptions, disregard everything else -Launch quickly and inexpensively -Get initial customers, if possible before you even build! -Iterate quickly and with scope constrained improvements What an inspiring batch of founders, from cutting-edge fields like Nanotechnology Manufacturing, AI, BioTech and many more. Big thanks to Nick Zieber and Tiffany Tse from Brinc and Victor CY LAU from CityU for putting this all together.

¿Me cuentas? Today on The Negotiation, Todd speaks with Bay McLaughlin, Co-Founder, and COO at Brinc.io, an early-stage venture accelerator. He describes his partnership with fellow Co-Founder Manav Gupta as unorthodox in that they were not wholly familiar with each other's backgrounds when they first met. What they did have individually, however, was the self-confidence needed to dive headfirst into a new venture. This attitude of purpose over profit drives many of Brinc's thoughts on the IoT startup space. The founding of Brinc goes against the grain of conventional startup journeys. For one, Bay and Manav invested their own money in the business, having had no institutional backers for their first three-and-a-half years. They also decided to focus on and establish bases exclusively in developing countries as they foresaw immense growth in these locations in the coming decades. When it comes to the modern-day investor's thought process, Bay notes that physical products that require longer and more complex R&D cycles will almost always receive more funding. Investors are also becoming more vertically-focused. That is, they will look at specific problems that businesses are looking to solve within specific industries.Historically, traditional software companies take around 7 to 10 years to go public. IoT companies go through a long life cycle: around 10 to 12 years, according to Bay. However, he does not see a good reason for any business (IoT or otherwise), who is vying to be a market leader, to go public too quickly. The fork-in-the-road decision is whether a founder intends to grow on its own effort (i.e. via fundraising) or to seek outside corporate aid in solving its problems.COVID-19 negatively impacted the IoT startup world from both the supply chain and investment perspectives. The least affected parties are those consumer IoT teams that strive to stay as lean as possible with their inventory. From an investment standpoint, companies now need to consider how wide their nets are with their LPs. This goes back to Bay's previous point that businesses who play the long game—instead of looking only at their valuation—not only have the best chance for survival but may very well thrive in the new normal.
