Andreas Leknessund takes his first Grand Tour stage victory in Stage 7 of the Vuelta a España Stage 7 takes the race 149.7km from Vall d'Alba to Ramón Valdelinares, over the mountains with an ascent of 12,300 ft. The route starts off reasonably gently, but after 52 kilometres, the riders approach the first of the five mountain classifications of the day. With UNO-X securing a Norwegian one-two, Andreas Leknessund wins stage 7: his first Grand Tour stage victory! Team-mate Johannessen ensures that Norwegian one-two on a day doused in mourning for Norway due to the passing of King Harald, making that victory feel particularly memorable. This week sees a big first for the Geek Warning podcast as the entirety of Escape Collective's tech crew meet up in person over in Takayama, Japan. Pogačar is making this Vuelta look very difficult for everyone else. Stage 6 takes the race 177.5km from Alcossebre to Castelló, with a punchy route that builds towards a brutal finale, including a gravel section with gradients reaching 20%. And, once again, the red jersey decides he wants to race it like a one-day Classic. With UAE driving the pace and the break beginning to disappear, Pogačar launches his attack on the final climb and quickly opens a gap over the rest of the GC contenders. He hits the gravel alone and starts pulling away, but Enric Mas refuses to let him disappear. The Spaniard produces a huge chase and eventually makes contact with Pogačar near the top. The two then work together over the final kilometres, with Mas putting himself in position to move into second overall. But there is a heart-in-mouth moment on the descent as Pogačar runs off the road after misjudging a corner, coming to a complete stop before getting back on his bike and rejoining Mas. El debate sobre las vacaciones de Pedro Sánchez ha generado una gran polémica, especialmente después de que trascendiera que sus propios asesores en la Moncloa tuvieron que convencerle de no viajar a Andorra junto a su esposa, Begoña Gómez. La portavoz parlamentaria del PSOE, Montse Mínguez, intentó defender la actividad del Ejecutivo argumentando que los ministros no han parado de trabajar durante todo el mes de agosto. Esta rectificación del Ejecutivo central llega tras la firme oposición del presidente de Ceuta, Juan Jesús Vivas, quien rechazó tajantemente la cesión de polideportivos municipales para albergar a los inmigrantes ilegales. Mientras tanto, la tensión en las calles de Ceuta va en aumento, registrándose graves enfrentamientos en la playa del Trampolín donde las fuerzas de seguridad tuvieron que efectuar disparos disuasorios para evitar choques entre los manifestantes locales y los inmigrantes. La gestión de los menores extranjeros no acompañados también centra la atención de la Conferencia Sectorial de Juventud e Infancia, donde se debate el reparto de fondos y el traslado de estos jóvenes a la península. La ministra de Juventud e Infancia, Sira Rego, busca consensuar esta medida con las comunidades autónomas, aunque regiones gobernadas por el Partido Popular y Vox han mostrado su rechazo o han exigido que se agoten todas las vías para el retorno de los menores con sus familias. El presidente de la Generalidad Valenciana, Carlos Mazón, ha denunciado que los centros de acogida en su región están completamente desbordados, alcanzando un doscientos por ciento de su capacidad, lo que hace insostenible la llegada de más contingentes. La crisis migratoria no se limita a Ceuta, sino que se extiende con fuerza a la costa de Murcia. En una entrevista concedida a esRadio, la alcaldesa de Cartagena, Noelia Arroyo, ha denunciado la llegada masiva de lanchas rápidas de gran capacidad -similares a las utilizadas por el narcotráfico- que desembarcan de forma ilegal y con total impunidad en las playas de la región. Arroyo ha criticado con dureza la escasez de recursos que sufren la Guardia Civil y la Policía Nacional, detallando que las tres patrulleras de la benemérita en la zona llevan más de un mes averiadas y que el barco de sustitución enviado por el Ministerio del Interior es demasiado lento para competir con las veloces embarcaciones de las mafias. Finalmente, la alcaldesa de Cartagena ha alertado sobre las consecuencias que estas políticas de fronteras abiertas tienen sobre la seguridad ciudadana y la convivencia. Según Arroyo, el Gobierno de España ha intentado instalar un campamento temporal de atención a inmigrantes en Cartagena del que muchos terminan saliendo sin recursos, generando problemas asistenciales que deben ser asumidos por el propio ayuntamiento. Además, ha señalado un preocupante incremento en la llegada de menores extranjeros no acompañados, cuyos datos duplican ya a los registrados en el año anterior, evidenciando el efecto llamada provocado por la falta de control fronterizo y la inacción del Ejecutivo central frente a las mafias que operan en el norte de África.

Matthew Brennan is having some Grand Tour debut. Just two days after taking his first Vuelta stage win, the 21-year-old Visma rider does it again in Roquetes, producing another brilliant sprint to make it two stage victories from the first five days of his first three-week Grand Tour. Stage 5 takes the race 173.3km from Falset through the Costa Daurada and into the Terres de l'Ebre, with strong winds making for a nervous day and several splits in the bunch. Ethan Hayter finds himself on the wrong side of one of those echelons before fighting his way back into contention and eventually taking maximum points at the intermediate sprint. The finale looks set for a chaotic sprint, but Visma have Brennan perfectly positioned. Wout van Aert and Christophe Laporte deliver a superb lead-out, putting Brennan in exactly the right place for the final few hundred metres. Jordi Meeus and Vincenzo Albanese come closest, but Brennan finishes the job to claim another win. El asalto sobre Ceuta del 30 de julio que se tradujo en la entrada ilegal de entre 70.000 y 80.000 personas en la ciudad, es la mayor crisis fronteriza del último medio siglo y, sobre todo, una radiografía del método clásico de gobierno de Pedro Sánchez, el de supeditar cada resorte del Estado (diplomacia, seguridad y hasta la Corona) a su propia supervivencia, apoyándose en la propaganda y en la búsqueda constante de culpables. Para el Gobierno, la responsabilidad siempre es de otros, de la "ultraderecha", del machismo, del cambio climático, de Trump o de Netanyahu. Lo ocurrido en Ceuta nos muestra a un Gobierno que ha renunciado a gobernar para limitarse a perdurar. Como síntoma del desbarajuste con el que se está gestionando esto la ministra de Defensa, Margarita Robles, declaró el lunes en el parlamento que el CNI advirtió con dos días de antelación del asalto. Poco después el ministro del Interior, Fernando Grande-Marlaska dijo lo contrario. El fallo, por tanto, no fue de inteligencia sino de voluntad. La cadena de mando no funcionó y el Estado se encontró no con la guardia baja, sino sin guardia de ningún tipo. Sánchez, por su parte, ha preferido marcar un perfil muy bajo, se ha pasado el mes de vacaciones, primero en Lanzarote y luego en Andorra. Han tardado 26 días para comparecer en el Congreso (después de vetar al Senado que no controlan), casi un mes para reunir el Consejo de Seguridad Nacional y 22 días para nombrar un coordinador. El mando único que reclamó desde el primer día el presidente de Ceuta, Juan Jesús Vivas, se lo negaron para autorizarlo tres semanas después. A eso habría que sumar el intento de instrumentalizar a Felipe VI, sugiriéndole que llamara al rey de Marruecos para agradecer su colaboración, algo que, en todo caso, corresponde al Gobierno y que sirve a la agenda marroquí de desestabilización institucional. De fondo una relación con Marruecos que es de puro servilismo desde que, hace cuatro años, el Gobierno cambió de postura sobre el Sáhara Occidental. A cambio no se ha obtenido nada, ni siquiera un eficaz control migratorio. Marruecos abre o cierra el grifo en función de sus intereses. Pero el Gobierno exculpa una y otra vez al Gobierno marroquí e incluso le elogia públicamente. Entretanto Ceuta sigue desbordada, hay miles de inmigrantes sin identificar, inseguridad, robos violaciones y ciudadanos que se sienten abandonados. El episodio encaja en el patrón habitual de convertir la política exterior en prolongación de la estrategia electoral, presentarse como némesis de Trump, negarse al gasto en Defensa y tejer alianzas con China al margen de Bruselas. Todo ello erosiona la confianza de los aliados europeos justo cuando España más los necesita. La razón última es un Gobierno en minoría y una legislatura muerta. Estos tres años registran un récord de improductividad legislativa, se ha abusado del decreto (168 desde 2018) y hay infinidad de leyes bloqueadas. Un presidente maniatado y deslegitimado dentro busca oxígeno fuera. Cuando no se puede gobernar lo más sensato democrático es devolver la palabra a los ciudadanos, pero por ahí Sánchez no quiere pasar porque eso le sacaría del poder. Pogačar has just put some serious daylight between himself and the rest of the Vuelta field. After yesterday's stage was wiped out by the weather, the race gets straight back into the mountains in Andorra, with just 104.8km on the menu but more than 2,800 metres of climbing. And it turns into another statement ride from the world champion. Pogačar attacks on the Collada de Beixalis with the race already being blown apart behind him. He then keeps extending his advantage over the final climbs and descents, eventually arriving in Andorra la Vella completely on his own to take the stage by 2:39. Behind him, the fight for the remaining podium places is much closer, with 20-year-old Jarno Widar taking second ahead of Félix Gall. Primož Roglič finishes seventh on the stage but moves into second overall, while Enric Mas, Sepp Kuss, Oscar Onley and Richard Carapaz all remain within striking distance of the podium. El próximo 6 de septiembre Sajonia-Anhalt, uno de los Länder más pobres de la antigua Alemania Oriental, celebra unas elecciones regionales que han puesto en vilo a todo el país. Las encuestas dan a Alternativa por Alemania (AfD) más del 40% de los votos, un resultado que les dejaría a las puertas de gobernar en solitario un parlamento regional por primera vez en su historia. Pero lo que se dirime allí no es tanto que pasará con ese Estado federado, sino si sigue valiendo una estrategia que la clase política alemana practica contra este partido de derecha identitaria desde hace años. Esa estrategia se conoce Brandmauer, el cortafuegos que compromete a todos los demás partidos a no pactar jamás con AfD ni gobiernos ni leyes. La CDU formalizó la doctrina en tiempos de Merkel, y, algo que nació como una línea roja para debilitar a AfD, se ha transformado en el principio organizador de la vida política alemana. Se descartan medidas que tendrían mayoría solo porque AfD las votaría, se les niega la vicepresidencia del Bundestag y a sus diputados se les aplica un aislamiento que roza en ocasiones la mala educación. La pregunta es si todo esto ha servido para algo. Medido por su objetivo último, el de hacer de AfD un partido menos atractivo para el votante, el cortafuegos ha fracasado. Hace un año Merz prometió reducir su voto a la mitad endureciendo el discurso migratorio y gobernando con eficacia. La inmigración irregular se ha desplomado, pero AfD ha duplicado su apoyo y ronda el 29% nacional, seis puntos por delante de los democristianos. Mientras en Italia, Países Bajos, Suecia o España la derecha identitaria se ha ido moderando tan pronto como se acercaba al poder, AfD ha recorrido el camino inverso, se ha radicalizado aún más mientras veía como su esperanza de voto aumentaba. El muro retira los incentivos para moderarse. El votante apoya a AfD sin riesgo sabiendo que nunca cargarán con el desgaste de gobernar. El aislamiento les regala su mejor argumento, la prueba de que existe un sistema de partidos cartelizado que se coaliga una y otra vez para dejarles fuera. Detrás del muro, entretanto, pueden prometer cualquier cosa sin rendir cuentas ni resolver sus propias contradicciones internas. Para la CDU el cortafuegos ha terminado convirtiéndose en una trampa. Les obliga a buscar socios solo a su izquierda, incluso en Die Linke, lo que enfurece a sus bases y les impide desplegar su programa. Cada transgresión, como la de Turingia en 2020 o la legislación migratoria les ha salido cara. La realidad es que luego, ya sobre el terreno, en muchos municipios y Länder del este, el muro es pura ficción porque son muchos los diputados y concejales que tiene AfD y hay que contar con ellos. Podrían condicionar el cortafuegos a que se moderasen, pero eso es precisamente lo que AfD no desea hacer ahora que la suerte le sonríe. Repensar las coaliciones y disputarle el terreno de las ideas parece lo más sensato, aunque nadie se atreve a intentarlo. El resultado es que trece años después de su fundación, AfD puede llegar a gobernar un Land a solas y sin haber cedido un milímetro. El muro que debía contenerles ha terminado convirtiéndoles en el partido más votado de Alemania.
