He talks candidly about imposter syndrome, the slow realisation that he might actually be good at his job, and why acting only began to make sense to him later in life. They discuss the freedom and chaos of seventies theatre, the strange mechanics of success, and the moments that changed everything, from Comedians and Hamlet to Brazil, Miss Saigon and beyond. As the saying goes, the calm comes before the storm. In Brazil's Supreme Court, the current crisis came after a period of glory and renown. In September 2025, the Supreme Court made history and became a global reference. Breaking with Brazil's long tradition of impunity for military interference in politics, the court analyzed a wealth of evidence and convicted former President Jair Bolsonaro and top-ranking military officers for attempting a coup after losing the 2022 election. That same month, Edson Fachin took office as the Supreme Court Chief Justice and quickly expressed his desire to create a code of conduct for members of the top court. Apparent conflicts of interest involving justices are common — and preventing them is also a way to strengthen the rule of law.In December, however, the court was pulled into the swirling scandal involving Banco Master — a mid-sized lender that was liquidated amid suspicions of fraud involving billions of reais. The bank's owner, Daniel Vorcaro, has ties to state governors, lawmakers, high-ranking executive personnel and justices, putting many people under suspicion across the political spectrum.Late last year, the press revealed that the wife of Justice Alexandre de Moraes had signed a three-year contract with Banco Master worth BRL 129 million (USD 25 million) to work as a lawyer for the bank. The contract's value raised eyebrows.Soon after, it became public that Justice Dias Toffoli, the rapporteur of the Master case, had recently traveled on a private jet to a football match with the lawyer of one of the bank's former executives. That alone would already be inappropriate. But from there, the problems only piled up.Send us your feedbackSupport the show

In this episode, we speak with Gilbert Clark, CEO of Meridian Mining, a mineral exploration and development company focused on unlocking high-value copper, gold, silver and other metal resources in Brazil. Meridian's flagship asset is the advanced Cabaçal Volcanogenic Massive Sulphide project in Mato Grosso.    We discuss Meridian's recent resource milestones, how the company is positioning itself for execution and growth, the de-risking of the project, skills within the Brazilian mining industry, an update on the Brazilian mining industry and what the outlook could look like as it moves toward becoming a meaningful copper-gold producer in a critical global market. KEY TAKEAWAYS Gilbert transformed Meridian Mining from a manganese-focused company into a high-value copper and gold explorer by leveraging the historical data of a decommissioned BP/Rio Tinto project. The Cabaçal project is uniquely positioned as a "brownfield restart," meaning it has established infrastructure and historical production data that significantly mitigate geological, metallurgical, and permitting risks. Mato Grosso offers a mature mining environment with affordable hydroelectric power, established logistics from the agricultural sector, and a supportive local community and government. The greatest risk to the industry is "generational change" and a lack of skilled engineers. Meridian addresses this through deep local university partnerships and a culture of independent decision-making BEST MOMENTS "We are a fundamental building block of everyone's daily going about their business. It is mining." "For me, as a reasonably experienced private equity investor in natural resources, my fundamental concern is risk. If I'm going to deploy capital, do I risk it?" "My greatest concern long-term... is demographics. You've got to extract as much knowledge from the 45-to-50-year-old guys and transfer that into the 20-year-old men and women." "There's a fundamental rule in mining: You go to work with ten fingers and ten toes, and you go home at night with ten fingers and ten toes." It's Wednesday, January 28th, A.D. 2026. This is The Worldview in 5 Minutes heard on 140 radio stations and at www.TheWorldview.com.  I'm Adam McManus. (Adam@TheWorldview.com) By Jonathan Clark Mexican authorities expelled Protestant pastor Authorities in southern Mexico expelled a Protestant pastor from their community this month. The issue began after Pastor Velásquez Martínez refused to participate in a Roman Catholic ritual due to his religious beliefs. Local authorities detained him for five days without charge before expelling him and his family. Evangelical families can face arrest, fines, and expulsion in parts of Mexico for their faith. Mexico is ranked 30th on the Open Doors' World Watch List of the most oppressive countries to be a Christian.  Catholicism declining in Latin America Analysis by Pew Research found that Catholicism has declined in Latin America over the past decade. Catholicism remains the largest religion across Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Mexico, and Peru. However, it has declined in the region by at least nine percent over the last 10 years. Meanwhile, the religiously unaffiliated have grown rapidly in Latin America. Protestantism has also grown in the region but only by a slight margin. United States withdrew from World Health Organization The United States officially withdrew from the World Health Organization last Thursday. This comes a year after President Donald Trump signed an executive order to initiate the process. The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services stated, “This decision was driven by profound failures in the WHO's handling of the COVID-19 pandemic originating in Wuhan, China.” The withdrawal ends U.S. funding for the World Health Organization. The group is also known for its support of abortion and sexually perverted lifestyles. Thousands of California pro-lifers march Tens of thousands of pro-lifers joined the 22nd Annual Walk for Life West Coast in California on Saturday.  Participants filled the streets of San Francisco in the financial district for more than a mile. Rally co-chair Eva Muntean said, “After 22 years I still find it hard to believe how blessed we are. When I see the enormous crowd that we had today—especially so many young people standing up with love and hope for women and children. I am filled with gratitude and hope. You can't come to the Walk without seeing the promise of a better world!” Psalm 27:13-14 says, “I would have lost heart, unless I had believed that I would see the goodness of the LORD in the land of the living. Wait on the LORD; be of good courage, and He shall strengthen your heart; wait, I say, on the LORD!” Washington man stabbed for being a Christian Sadly, a man suffered an attack over his religion on Sunday morning in Washington state. The Pierce County Sheriff's Office reports they found the man in serious condition. The victim said a stranger approached him and asked what religion he was. He said something about being a Christian. In response, the stranger attacked and stabbed the victim and his dog. The perpetrator died after a confrontation with police.  The Christian Post reports that the victim has been released from a local hospital.  U.S. population down as Trump expels illegals The U.S. population growth rate is slowing as the Trump administration cracks down on illegal immigration.  New data from the U.S. Census Bureau found the population reached nearly 342 million people last year. The 2025 growth rate was half a percent, down from almost one percent in 2024. Christine Hartley with the Census Bureau said, “With births and deaths remaining relatively stable compared to the prior year, the sharp decline in net international migration is the main reason for the slower growth rate we see today.” Geopolitical and economic uncertainly drives gold up. As The Worldview reported yesterday, the price for spot gold reached $5,100 an ounce, a record. That's up 18% so far this year. Ryan McIntyre, president at Sprott Inc., told Reuters, “Gold prices continue to be supported by elevated geopolitical and economic uncertainty. Central banks remain strong buyers as they diversify foreign exchange reserves and reduce reliance on the U.S. dollar.” 100-year-old great grandfather speaks at kindergarten class And finally, CBS News reports that a kindergartener in Georgia recently brought her 100-year-old great-grandfather to class. This was to celebrate K.J. Schmansky's 100th day of school this year at Saint Thomas More School in Decatur. Her great-grandfather, Sonny Ragan, was born on October 8, 1925. He got to share 100 years of wisdom with the young class. When asked what keeps him going, Ragan said it's faith and family. 1 Peter 3:10-11 says, “He who would love life and see good days, let him refrain his tongue from evil, and his lips from speaking deceit. Let him turn away from evil and do good; let him seek peace and pursue it.” Close And that's The Worldview on this Wednesday, January 28th, in the year of our Lord 2026. Follow us on X or subscribe for free by Spotify, Amazon Music, or by iTunes or email to our unique Christian newscast at www.TheWorldview.com.  I'm Adam McManus (Adam@TheWorldview.com). Potter Valley Fight Escalates as Rich Brazil Warns California's Water Future Is on the Line

Farm City Newsday by AgNet West

The January 28 edition of the AgNet News Hour delivered one of the most detailed and urgent updates yet on the unfolding Potter Valley water crisis, as hosts Nick Papagni and Josh McGill sat down with longtime local veterinarian Rich Brazil to explain what's truly at stake if the Potter Valley Project dams are removed. The message was clear: this isn't just a Northern California issue — it's a warning for every rural community in the state. Brazil, who has lived and worked in Potter Valley for 38 years, explained that the region's farms, ranches, homes, and businesses exist because of a century-old water diversion system connecting the Eel River to the Russian River watershed. That small diversion — roughly 30,000 acre-feet — represents less than one-half of one percent of the Eel River's annual flow, yet supports agriculture, domestic water supplies, fire protection, and entire rural economies downstream. Environmental groups are pushing to remove Scott Dam and Cape Horn Dam, arguing that free-flowing rivers will restore fish populations. Brazil countered that argument with hard data. Over the past 20 years, diversion flows have already been cut by 60 to 80 percent, yet salmon numbers have continued to decline. “That tells you the problem isn't the water diversion,” Brazil said. “It's habitat issues, predators, and offshore impacts.” One of the most alarming consequences Brazil outlined is what would happen if the dams were removed outright. Behind the dams sit an estimated 20 to 40 million cubic yards of sediment. If released, that material could bury the river system in silt, destroying spawning habitat and harming the very fish the removals are meant to protect. Meanwhile, communities would lose reliable water overnight. Domestic wells would dry up, farmland would be abandoned, and property values would collapse. Brazil emphasized that local leaders have repeatedly proposed compromise solutions — including fish ladders and infrastructure upgrades — that would allow fish recovery while preserving water reliability for people. Those options, he said, were rejected outright. “This isn't about sharing,” he warned. “This is about taking everything.” The conversation also touched on the broader political landscape. Brazil believes the Potter Valley dams have become symbolic targets in California's aggressive environmental agenda, and that rural communities are being treated as expendable. However, he expressed cautious optimism thanks to recent engagement from U.S. Secretary of Agriculture Brooke Rollins and NRCS Chief Aubrey J. D. Bettencourt, calling their involvement a turning point after years of being ignored at the state level. Papagni and McGill stressed that the Potter Valley fight mirrors other California battles — from wolves to water storage — where policy decisions are made far from the people who live with the consequences. As Brazil put it, “If this can happen here, it can happen anywhere.” The episode closed with a call for awareness, engagement, and persistence. “Sunlight matters,” Brazil said. “When people understand what's really happening, common sense still has a chance.”

Welcome to Financial Revelations with David Szafranski. In this episode, David discusses the upcoming mission trip to Brazil and how listeners can support the work by donating at nativosusa.org. David also breaks down the current market environment, explaining why inflation is moving in the right direction—and why it's much easier to drop from 9% to 4% than it is to push inflation lower without slipping into deflation, something currently affecting China and seen in Japan for decades. He shares his outlook on interest rates, noting that while there may not be a rate change this month, the incoming Fed chair is expected to begin cutting rates. The conversation wraps with insights on Minnesota politics and how political news impacts markets, reinforcing David's long-held principle: buy on bad news.

A highly unusual winter storm swept across the United States on Jan. 24-25, plunging parts of the midwest into long stretches of below zero temperatures while dumping feet of snow from Kansas and Missouri all the way into the Northeast.Sleet and ice clogged up conditions from Texas to the Carolinas, and despite the extreme conditions, the precipitation was welcome as drought conditions have continued to spread across the middle of the country. To bring us up to speed on the winter storm and its impacts, we're joined by DTN's Team Lead for Ag Weather John Baranick. He'll walk us through winter conditions thus far for key farming regions across the U.S. and offer insight into the forecasting of the latest winter storm. Then he'll take us beat by beat through the impacts in different regions, from rain, sleet, and snowfall totals and the likely effect on drought conditions to temperature variations and how overwintering crops might be affected. We'll get an updated forecast for the half of winter that remains, and hear what wildcards John thinks might still be at play. Finally, we'll take a look at conditions in South America and get a clearer picture of how crops in Argentina and Brazil are shaping up as farmers move towards harvest time.

In this episode, we discuss recent developments at Elephant Sanctuary Brazil (ESB) following the deaths of Pupy and Kenya, the sanctuary's two female African elephants, in 2025.As we have seen in recent weeks, we are living in a time that is exposing a troubling side of our society — one where false and negative claims are more readily accepted than positive truth, and where it often seems easier to believe accusations of manipulation and corruption than to accept that honesty and integrity exist. In this conversation, we examine how anti-sanctuary narratives and the temporary suspension of ESB's license to bring in new elephants have emerged in this climate — and why the impact extends beyond elephants, affecting wider wildlife rescue and rehabilitation efforts. At the same time, we explore why this difficult moment may also present an opportunity: to bring clarity through evidence-based review, and to highlight the vital — and too often misunderstood and ignored — responsibility sanctuaries around the world take on when they accept elderly, chronically ill, and end-of-life elephants into their care.We urge supporters to sign and share our petition calling for fair, transparent, and equal standards — ensuring that Elephant Sanctuary Brazil and zoos in Brazil are assessed by the same regulatory criteria. What we know so far about Pupy & Kenya's passingTransparency and Accountability for AllThe episode transcript can be found here.Email: We'd love to hear from you podcast@globalelephants.orgWho we are: Global Sanctuary for Elephants exists to create vast, safe spaces for captive elephants, where they are able to heal physically and emotionally. Salve! This is a bonus episode for paid subscribers!Every episode is a different song. This is the song today:"Atalaia" by Guilherme CoutinhoGuilherme Coutinho was an obscure keyboardist from Belém, in Brazil's Amazon region. “Atalaia” first appeared in 1978 on Guilherme Coutinho e o Grupo Stalo, released by his hometown radio station's label. It's a laid-back song with an atmospheric groove driven by Coutinho's Fender Rhodes, and subtle analog synth lines drift in and out, adding a cosmic, slightly psychedelic feel that bridges Brazilian rhythm with 1970s fusion and ambient soul. Atalaia is a coastal town located in the north, where the river meets the ocean, and is known for its mangroves, dunes, and extreme tides, which are all referenced in the lyrics. Guilherme Coutinho passed away in 1983 at the age of 41, making this a true cult album that has been recently reissued by Mr. Bongo.Check the song's translation with TranslationSmith.

The Heretic of Cacheu: Crispina Peres and the Struggle over Life in Seventeenth-Century West Africa (U Chicago Press, 2025) by Professor Toby Green tells the extraordinary story of seventeenth-century West African slave trader Crispina Peres to explore the shifting, sophisticated world in which she lived. In 1665, Crispina Peres, the most powerful trader in the West African slave-trafficking port of Cacheu, was arrested by the Portuguese Inquisition. Her enemies had conspired to denounce her for taking treatments prescribed by Senegambian healers, the djabakós. But who was Peres? And why was the Inquisition so concerned with policing the faith of a West African woman in today's Guinea-Bissau? In The Heretic of Cacheu, award-winning historian Dr. Green takes us to the heart of this conundrum, immersing us in the atmosphere of an otherwise distant setting. We learn how people in seventeenth-century Cacheu built their houses; styled their clothes; healed themselves from illness; and worshipped, worked, and played. Green renders the haunting realities of the growing slave trade and the rise of European empires in shocking detail. By the 1650s, the relationships between Europe, West Africa, and the Americas were already old and tangled, with slaving ports, colonies, and military bases having intermingled over many generations. But Cacheu also profoundly troubled this dynamic. It was globally connected to places ranging from China and India to Brazil and Colombia, and women such as Crispina Peres ran the town and challenged the patriarchy of empire. For the first time, through surviving documents recording Peres's case, The Heretic of Cacheu lets readers experience the reality of this unique place and time through a remarkable act of historical recovery. This interview was conducted by Dr. Miranda Melcher whose book focuses on post-conflict military integration, understanding treaty negotiation and implementation in civil war contexts, with qualitative analysis of the Angolan and Mozambican civil wars. Forget the hype - small merchants need tools that actually work when a line forms and a card won't tap. Andrew Helms, CEO USA at SumUp digs into a merchant-first approach that puts transparency, service, and growth at the center of payments. Andrew shares his unconventional path from Middle Eastern studies and consulting in Dubai to entrepreneurship, scaling Home Chef through acquisition, and ultimately leading SumUp's U.S. team from Boulder Colorado. That global lens shapes a practical strategy: localize for U.S. realities like tax complexity and tipping, keep pricing honest, and answer the phone when a sale is on the line.We unpack how SumUp's integrated ecosystem - payments, POS, invoicing, banking, lending, and loyalty - helps brick-and-mortar stores thrive. The spotlight is on inventory-heavy retail: convenience stores, liquor shops, toy and pet stores juggling large catalogs, aging stock, and tight margins. Andrew explains how POS plus loyalty surfaces what's expiring, what's stuck, and which promotions move units, turning shelf data into cash flow. He's candid about competitors' junk fees and makes the case for clear contracts and seven-day live support that's moving toward 24/7 coverage.Looking ahead, Andrew separates signal from noise on stablecoins, instant payments, and AI. Cross-border settlement and faster payouts hold real promise if they reach main street, while selective AI can power insights and smarter support without replacing the human layer. He also taps SumUp's global footprint for “crystal ball” learnings - from Brazil's Pix to London's kiosk boom - and shows how to translate those wins for U.S. merchants. We close with career advice to ask better questions and a call for ethics in payments: long-term success depends on enabling small businesses to build community, repeat revenue, and resilience. If you care about the future of main street retail, this conversation brings strategy you can use today.

For years, we've heard about AI transforming software development. But what if that same level of agentic, AI-driven collaboration could be applied not just to writing code, but to writing your entire go-to-market playbook? Agility requires that your go-to-market teams operate at the speed of insight, not at the speed of manual data entry and fragmented workflows. This means empowering them with tools that don't just provide data, but automate action based on strategic intent. Today, we're going to talk about the concept of an 'agentic' go-to-market platform, where AI doesn't just assist, but actively collaborates with sales and marketing teams to automate entire workflows, from strategy to execution. To help me discuss this topic, I'd like to welcome, Marcio Arnecke, Chief Marketing Officer at Apollo.io. About Marcio Arnecke As Apollo.io's Chief Marketing Officer, Marcio Arnecke brings a visionary approach to scaling high-growth B2B SaaS marketing in the AI-driven sales landscape. Marvel Mondays continue as we move through the early MCU with the franchise's second entry.ABOUT THE INCREDIBLE HULKBruce Banner, a scientist on the run from the U.S. Government, must find a cure for the monster he turns into whenever he loses his temper.AIR DATE & NETWORK FOR THE INCREDIBLE HULKJune 13, 2008 | TheatersCAST & CREW OF THE INCREDIBLE HULKEdward Norton as Bruce BannerLiv Tyler as Betty RossTim Roth as Emil BlonskyWilliam Hurt as General “Thunderbolt” RossTim Blake Nelson as Samuel SternsBRAN'S THE INCREDIBLE HULK SYNOPSISThe movie kicks off with a quick montage explaining how Bruce Banner became the Hulk. You know the deal. The military, however, is very interested in finding him because… he's extremely dangerous.Five years later, Bruce is living in Brazil, lying low. He's doing breathing exercises to keep his heart rate down and working at a bottling factory. He's also desperately searching for a cure for his Hulk-ness, secretly chatting online with someone named Mr. Blue. One day at work, Bruce cuts his finger, and a drop of his blood falls into one of the bottles. That bottle eventually makes its way to the U.S., where it causes serious problems for the guy who drinks it. Using this contaminated bottle, the military tracks Banner's location. A strike team led by Emil Blonsky is sent in to capture him.Bruce transforms into the Hulk and completely wrecks Blonsky's team. Blonsky, instead of being terrified, is impressed and immediately wants that power for himself. He agrees to be injected with a small dose of a super-soldier serum connected to the original Hulk experiment. Surely nothing bad will happen.Bruce returns to the States to grab some of his old research and reunites with his former girlfriend, Betty Ross. Blonsky attacks again, and when Betty is put in danger, Bruce transforms into the Hulk. Hulk fights off the military—including Blonsky—and escapes with Betty. Now officially on the run together, Bruce contacts Mr. Blue, who urges them to meet in New York City.Mr. Blue turns out to be Dr. Samuel Sterns, a cellular biologist who claims he's developed a possible antidote. They test it—and it actually works. But Sterns reveals he's also been stockpiling Bruce's blood samples, believing its “limitless potential” could revolutionize medicine now that a cure exists.Bruce immediately points out that this is a terrible idea because the military is absolutely going to weaponize it. (Did we learn nothing from Iron Man?)Right on cue, Blonsky and the military arrive, capture Banner, and take him away. Blonsky stays behind and forces Sterns to inject him with Banner's blood. Sterns warns him that combining the serum with the radiation already in his body could turn him into something far worse—an Abomination.Blonsky hears the name and says, “Cool. Do it.”Blonsky mutates into a massive, rage-filled monster even bigger and stronger than the Hulk and immediately starts destroying Harlem.Bruce realizes he has to stop him. He jumps from a helicopter, transforms mid-fall, and the Hulk takes on Abomination in an extended, brutal battle across the city. Hulk ultimately defeats him by choking him with a massive chain, stopping only when Betty begs him not to kill Blonsky. After a quiet moment with Betty, Hulk flees the scene and disappears. One month later, Bruce is in Bella Coola, British Columbia. Instead of trying to suppress the Hulk, he's learning to transform on purpose. As his eyes turn green, Bruce smiles. The Daily Blast: Trump Accidentally Wrecks His Own Case for Tariffs in 3 Crazed Tirades

The Supreme Court is about to rule on Donald Trump's tariffs, which lower courts deem illegal. But guess what: Trump himself has badly undermined his own case for them. He's claimed broad tariff powers by absurdly declaring trade deficits an economic emergency. But he keeps admitting to other rationales for them. In a crazed tirade in Davos, he said he threatened Switzerland with tariffs partly because a female leader's voice annoyed him. He unleashed a long rant in a letter threatening Brazil with higher tariffs over its treatment of ally Jair Bolsonaro. And in another tirade, he threatened to impose tariffs on European countries opposing his quest to seize Greenland. We talked to MS NOW's Steve Benen, who identified this pattern in a good piece. We discuss all these threats, the GOP's complicity with the Mad King's whims, and what it'll mean for our country if the high court greenlights such obviously absurd abuses of power.  Looking for More from the DSR Network? In December of 2025, Brazil passed the BRICS leadership torch to India, which wasted no time revealing its priorities for the economic alliance—to build an international payment system that rivals the SWIFT system and chip away at U.S. economy hegemony by attacking the exorbitant privilege of the U.S. Dollar. Defending the dollar should be the easiest policy ever. Instead the Trump administration has accelerated the world’s collective desire to put the U.S. in its place and end our reign of economic despotism. -- If you like #UNFTR, please leave us a rating and review on Apple Podcasts and Spotify: unftr.com/rate and follow us on Facebook, Bluesky, TikTok and Instagram at @UNFTRpod.
