Conviction: So What?• What should we believe? - If God is in it, it will happen. - Prayer is a priority. - Confession, real heartfelt confession, is normal. - Our only hope is Jesus, not a building, a wall, or even good (or not so good) leaders. • How should we behave? - Pray more. - Confess often and deeply. - Trust God in the midst of opposition from within and without.• Where does this fit? - A continuation of the story of God's faithfulness during his people's failure. - A narrative that acknowledges the reality of opposition to God's work and plan for our lives. - An example of the central place of timely confession and acknowledgment of sin. - A cautionary tale about supposed good leaders and the limits of the best ones.Next Steps• Remember that even if God is in your calling/task, it may not be easy or simple.• Trust God and work hard and then trust God some more. • Keep your eyes on Jesus not your safety (walls) or even your church (temple), or even your church leaders (Ezra and Nehemiah = Ken, staff, elders). We invite you to utilize the Growth Guide during the week to further your application of the Truth from the message.• Monday - Nehemiah 1•. Tuesday - Nehemiah 9:1-6•. Wednesday - Nehemiah 9:7-18•. Home Church helps our body seek God's best for one another. Home Church Questions • Read Nehemiah 9:1-37. Yes, it is long, but a fantastic summary of Old Testament History.• Was there anything new or insightful in this message?• Was there anything you know you can or should immediately apply?• What did you struggle with in this message? What did not make sense or cause you to evaluate your own life more deeply?• How would your life personally, or the life of your family be different if you fully live out the truths in this message?• When have you known you were doing what God wanted you to do but faced either opposition or ridicule? (Read Nehemiah 4:3)• Often, God's work requires us to work together. This is what happens in chapter 3. When have you been on a project where you have seen God's people serving together with a variety of giving, all advancing God's purposes?• Read the two confessions in the book and make some observations about them (1:5-7; 9:2-3).• Nehemiah prayed for four months (1:1 = Winter of 445 and 2:1 = Spring of 444). Then the actual construction of the wall took 52 days (6:15). The reforms of the people took 12 years. The reforms lasted less than a year (chapter 13). Does this teach us anything?• Read Nehemiah 5:19; 6:14; 13:14; 13:22; 13:31. What do you make of this.• How does this book again point us to Christ as our only real hope? What did not make sense or caused you to evaluate your own life more deeply?• How would your life personally, or the life of your family be different if you fully live out the truths in this message?• What are some of the "gods of this age"? What do we look to in order to protect us or what things control us and dictate our priorities and behaviors?• Read Psalm 136:10-22. Why is the exodus such a great model for a correct theological understanding of redemption?• The Law was never given to save anyone. The law reveals the character of God, provides evidence of our inability to live up to God's standard, and provides a method for maintaining fellowship with God. Does this make sense? How can we use the law to accomplish it's intended purpose?FinancesWeekly Budget 31,390Giving For 09/25 26,011Giving For 10/02 22,635 YTD Budget 439,456YTD Giving 392,069 OVER/(UNDER) (47,387) Generations CampaignTotal Pledge 1,535,065Received-to-date 1,657,330Operation Christmas Child Special Access Pack - October 11 from 11:00 am - 2:00 pm or 6:00 - 9:00 pm. Ps. Steve and Ps. Esther encouraged us to be followers of Jesus living by faith and not just do the good things of Christianity as a routine. We are called to obey Jesus - to move when He tells us to move and stay where He tells us to stay. We are invited to join the journey of becoming Home Churches.

The teaching from Sunday can be a great launchpad for us to engage in  our discipleship with Jesus. Remember that our faith was meant to be lived out in community and take these questions to one of our Home Churches, talk them out with your family at home, or find a couple of close friends and work through them.   CONVERSATION STARTER Describe a time when other people really helped you celebrate something meaningful. DIGGING DEEPER God is always inviting us to change.  Share one time God invited you to change something that seemed difficult but afterwards you don’t know how you lived differently? Can you think of a time the good news, really made sense to you in a new or different way? Have you gotten new insight or perspective on the good news more than one time? Can you think of a time you were inspired to grow because of what you heard happening in the church somewhere else? Parent/Caregiver tip:  Have a conversation as a family about how God doesn’t just want a relationship with us but with every family, every person!  Then spend some time praying for one family that you know and for the churches in a nearby town. GOD’S STORY Read & answer the questions together - Colossians 1:3-6, Can you think of anyone who you would pray for in the way of this passage? What would it be like to know someone was praying for you that way? Is God inviting us to share our “hope” in a new way this week? GROWING TOGETHER- (In groups of 3-4) Is there one way we can support you by checking in or following up in the coming week as you seek to become more like Jesus or just in general? CONNECTING PRAYER In your small huddles answer the following questions and pray for each person after they share ending the prayer with the included blessing. What is one thing you are: grateful for, anxious about?   As you _______ go out into the world may you freely find peace in God’s forgiveness, may you find healing from the pain of sin, and may you find that forgiveness for others is easier as God helps you to forgive as freely as  He has forgiven you.  AMEN

Today in the basement Preston is talking to Keith Giles. Most recently he is the author of Jesus Untangled: Crucifying Our Politics to Pledge Allegiance to the Lamb. The book dives into the relationship of Christianity and politics and even suggests that "the greatest threat to Christianity is American Christianity". Keith is also a part of a house church that gives away 100% of all offerings to the poor in their community.  You can follow Keith on twitter @keithgiles You can check out Keith's Blog Support Preston Support Preston by going to patreon.com Connect with Preston Follow him on Twitter @PrestonSprinkle Check out his website prestonsprinkle.com If you enjoy the podcast, be sure to leave a review.
