This week we are recording live in the John Deere booth at the Farm Progress Show in Illinois. This event is huge in the agriculture world so this week's message is inclusive to owners of all different land-use types. From Ag-land, to timber production land and even cattle pastures, we talk to producers of different crops and how to expand operations and value land with some outside of the box thinking. It is easy to become singular minded when an operation is dependent upon success to hold the land, but oftentimes that singular focus can also be the thing that holds you back as a landowner. So, we breakdown each land use type and discuss the avenues out there for landowners to really increase revenue streams and find the max value in your land holdings. We hope you enjoy this educational podcast all about land ownership! Thank you John Deere for the invite as well, we will be back next year!
Shawn O'Malley and Daniel Mahncke break down Ferrari (ticker: RACE), a company whose stock is arguably just as impressive as its high-performance and ultra-luxury vehicles. By global automotive standards, Ferrari hardly has any sales volumes, selling about 14,000 cars a year, yet these vehicles come with such premium price tags that the company can reasonably command a $90 billion market valuation still. IN THIS EPISODE, YOU'LL LEARN 00:00 – Intro 09:27 - Why Ferrari obsesses over keeping supply below demand. 11:45 - Why Ferrari is more like Hérmes than Porsche. 16:27 - Ferrari's response to the hybrid and EV movements. 30:35 - What makes Ferrari special amongst even other ultra-luxury vehicle makers. 33:53 - What it actually takes to buy a Ferrari, and how Ferrari chooses its customers. 42:40 - How Ferrari has created a long-term ownership culture amongst its clients, similar to the mindset among shareholders of Berkshire Hathaway. 48:05 - How to think about modeling RACE's intrinsic value. 57:45 - The creative ways Ferrari has leveraged its IP to sell cars at higher and higher prices. 01:04:28 - Whether Shawn and Daniel add RACE to their Intrinsic Value Portfolio. *Disclaimer: Slight timestamp discrepancies may occur due to podcast platform differences. On this week's Keepin It Real, Cam discusses his largely sedentary life and the fulfillment he gets on the rare occasions he can see the results of his work. ----- Most weeks, my work mainly involves pushing electrons around. I sit at a computer and do stuff. Recently it's been requests for short training videos for clients to use with their teams. I write scripts, edit scripts and record videos. Other weeks I prepare presentations. Lots of PowerPoint editing, lots of rehearsing content. Lots of time online. Lots of buying tickets. It's all sedentary stuff. Me plus a keyboard plus a computer plus a screen, pushing electrons. Last Saturday, though, was different. I was in Clark County at my father's property near Grove Hill. I climbed on a tractor shortly after 7:30am. It's a small John Deere with a scoop on the front and a mower on the back. I didn't climb off until well after 2pm. For about seven hours I mowed and pushed downed trees out of roads and fields. I was bitten by every biting insect in North America. My arms and neck got burned. My work pants smelled of diesel fuel. I added a couple more tears to my already torn work TShirt. My socks balled up inside my boots, sweaty, and my back hurt from lifting 50 lb bags of wheat. When I washed my hands, the white sink turned brown with dirt and dust that had stuck to my sweaty arms. A mystery bruise was beginning to ache and turn purple on my shoulder. I sat down in my father's small camp, told him I'm just going to close my eyes for a second, and fell solidly asleep. And I was deeply deeply happy. Pushing electrons is what I've chosen to do for a living. At the end of every day, I typically leave my office with my checklist complete. I make a large one on Monday, add a little bit to it each day, cross some stuff off, and by Friday have largely worked through it. But I do not get the satisfaction of seeing the fruits of my work. At the end of the bricklayer's workday, he can step back and see the progress he's made. He started there in the morning and is now finishing here. His progress is easy to see. Pushing electrons doesn't offer the same satisfaction. But that was not the case last Saturday. Fields and roads were mown. Trees were pushed away. Progress was obvious. And it felt good. And tiring. The soreness was welcome. And the nap on the couch was earned. Fall means it's time to cut firewood. It's the wood we'll use next fall, giving it a year to season and dry on the rack. I love cutting firewood. The feel of the chainsaw, going from tree to log to cut wood pieces to split pieces and the stack slowly growing in front of me. My hands rough and my back aching. Later, a cold beer and college football. And the sleep that night is an earned slumber. I live a largely sedentary life. I go to work and sit. Then on to a meeting and sit. Then on to the next place and sit. A day seeing the progress of my work is needed every now and then. Strangely, the bruises and the soreness and the exhaustion make me feel alive. I'm Cam Marston, just trying to keep it real.
H1 - Segment 2 - Wed Aug 27 2025 - Yesterday we got the news that Cracker Barrel has reversed course And welcome back to the program. Glad to have you along with us on this Wednesday afternoon. Let's see here. Alright. So, we'll talk about the school shooting, church shooting, coming up more in just a second. But yesterday, we got the news that Cracker Barrel had reversed course. Now this is what they they came in. They did all of this hullabaloo about changing, you know, the way they look and and changing the logo and all of that stuff. And you guys absolutely I mean, you lost your your heads about it. I don't mean that in a bad way. I mean that in a good way because rightfully you should have because this is this is one of, you know, a lot of people's favorite places. So they're going into they make this unbelievable marketing change, which cost them, like, 7 was it $700,000,000 that they were doing this whole renovation with? Well, you guys let your voice be heard. And then yesterday, they came along and they changed it back. They said, alright. We've heard you. Now first, they put out that ridiculous statement, which basically said, sorry, not sorry. But then I think the shareholders got to got to talking to the CEO, and they were like, okay. We'll go back to the old thing. But here's what really he was one of the bad things that really happened. They started people started looking at Cracker Barrel. Cracker Barrel used to be part of Americana, used to be a great place to go, nostalgia, all of that. You could go and get good food, and you could just you know? And it was a thing. It was just a thing, and everybody just assumed that that was a good thing. But when you start looking into Cracker Barrel and what they actually stand for as a corporation, Well, this is this is one of the worst thing that that could have happened to them because now people started looking into them, saying, hey. Let's check out Cracker Barrel a little bit more and see what's going and did you know they have a thing called porch to pride? You know, all the Cracker Barrels have that front porch. Well, they got a thing called porch to pride. Not only that, they're one of the biggest supporters of the Nashville pride parade and festivities. Saw a video last night of a a drag queen show sponsored by Cracker Barrel. So I a a lot of things a lot of times, things just aren't what they seem. So one of the questions I'm gonna have for you today, Charlie bay Charlie, I read that they basically got a billion dollars worth of free advertising on that stunt. Well, that might just offset what they spent on the remodel. Maybe. Because I know a lot of people out there just aren't going back. And when they find out more about Cracker Barrel and what they really stand for at a corporate level level, I think a lot of people are gonna say, you know what? I'm gonna go somewhere else. I'm gonna find something else. So my question for you today is now that they've decided to keep uncle Herschel leaning on the Cracker Barrel, not only on the road signs, not only on the menus, but also on the store sign itself, is all forgiven. Will you be patronizing them again, or have you learned out more about the corporate, culture of Cracker Barrel? As he Charlie said, I think it's racist. They call it cracker. I know it actually has to do with the barrel. That's the cracker barrel, barrel full of crackers. Charlie not going back, to they they should have let me know about it. There you go. So, Charlie, why does the left always say it's the gun? We'll get to that in just a second. But I do think people need to look more into Cracker Barrel, and especially somebody out there named Robbie Starbuck. Now Robbie Starbuck has been unbelievable at getting corporations to change their DEI, policies, their pride affiliations. Like I said, he's been very successful. He's gotten I mean, he's got a long hit list here. Tractor Supply Company, John Deere, Harley Davidson, Brown F ...

Sentera: https://sentera.com/Chandler Coop: https://www.chandlercoop.com/Today's episode is another installment in our Tech-Enabled Advisor series. The idea here is to better understand agtech through the lens of the BUYER and USER of that technology rather than just the entrepreneurs or investors behind it. I've received some super positive feedback about the return of this series. By talking to the buyers rather than the sellers of the tech, we got an unfiltered introduction to the technology and more importantly got to see HOW its used and the VALUE that it provides. To do this, I partner with a company and together we invite one of their customers onto the show. The catch is that they're not allowed to script these individuals or dictate what to say or edit it after it is recorded - it has to be real and unfiltered. So today's episode featuring Nick Einck of Chandler Coop is produced in partnership with Sentera. Sentera is a leading provider of remote imagery solutions. Their industry-leading cameras are compatible with most major drone platforms and enable farmers and crop scouts to efficiently capture high-resolution data. Their capabilities and FieldAgent software tools help farmers and agronomists assess plant-level health, identify stressors, and take action. Also their customized herbicide prescription, SMARTSCRIPT™ Weeds, can be delivered to sprayers with individual nozzle control. So drones equipped with Sentera technology fly over fields at high speeds and generate high-resolution images. The images are processed using proprietary deep learning algorithms to identify the exact location of specific weeds and generate a weed map. This map becomes a targeted prescription for how much product a farmer needs to load into their sprayer, saving money and minimizing waste. This past May, John Deere announced they were acquiring Sentera. So I'm very excited to partner with them for this episode, which is a fantastic deep dive into how innovative technology like this combined with something like See-and-Spray really changes the game. Some background on Nick before we dive in: Nick Einck is the Director of Agronomy at Chandler Co-op, a farmer-owned cooperative serving more than 900 customers and providing agronomic services across over 100,000 acres in southwest Minnesota. He began his career at Chandler as an intern and seed manager before spending nearly a decade with Monsanto and Bayer, gaining deep expertise in agronomy, product development, and grower engagement across the Midwest. Nick returned to Chandler in October 2024, bringing both retail and industry experience to help advance the co-op's agronomic strategy. Today, he leads a multi-location agronomy team focused on leveraging tech-enabled tools—like SmartScript™—to help growers make faster, more informed decisions and drive greater return from every acre.
Getting buy-in sounds great—but it's not the end goal. It's just the beginning. In this episode, Kevin Eikenberry explains why buy-in alone isn't enough to drive results and how leaders can bridge the gap between agreement and action. In this episode, you'll learn: Why buy-in is a low bar What the real goal of leadership influence should be 3 specific steps leaders can take to drive action

Daniel Mahncke and Shawn O'Malley dive into Crocs, the footwear company that turned a ridiculed foam clog into a global fashion phenomenon. After a post-IPO collapse and years of overextension, Crocs has staged one of the most impressive brand comebacks in recent retail history — now fueled by strong margins, loyal customers, and bold international expansion. But there are still some challenges and risks. The HEYDUDE acquisition wasn't successful yet, and the turnaround will still take time, and there are still reasonable doubts around the sustainability of the growth and fashion relevance of Crocs. In this episode, Shawn and Daniel unpack what's driving Crocs' profitability, why its turnaround worked, and whether its Asia strategy could be the next big unlock. They break down the brand's unique mix of comfort and cultural cachet, the economics of Jibbitz and limited-edition drops, and how Gen Z's shift toward athleisure might power a decade of demand. Along the way, they explore whether Crocs is a misunderstood compounder or a hype-driven value trap — and where the stock could go in a bull, bear, and base-case scenario. IN THIS EPISODE, YOU'LL LEARN 00:00 – Intro 04:59 – How Crocs was founded 13:38 – Why Crocs almost went bankrupt in 2008 and how it survived 25:44 – What started the second hype cycle 28:35 – What its highly customized designs mean from a business perspective 32:57 – What role social media plays in Crocs' success 41:31 – How the HEYDUDE acquisition hurt Crocs' business 50:28 – About Crocs' international strategy 01:04:23 – Whether Crocs is attractively valued at its current levels 01:09:18 – Whether Shawn & Daniel add CROX to The Intrinsic Value Portfolio *Disclaimer: Slight timestamp discrepancies may occur due to podcast platform differences. This weekend the 62nd Badger Steam and Gas Engine Club Show chugs into Baraboo. If you look across the audience, you may notice that it's heavily male influenced, but that doesn't mean that the fairer sex isn't engaged. Heidi Knuth was born into the hobby of collecting John Deere equipment. It's a family tradition for the Knuths. She is proud to be a woman in the hobby and takes pride in pursuing a passion her parents instilled in her. Kiley Allan finds out what motivates her to keep on collecting.Hot and sticky. Those two words have come to describe weather in Wisconsin. Stu Muck does say that the rain expected this weekend is a little different pattern than what we normally see in August. Farmers are gearing up for silage time in the state. That's one important feedstuff for Wisconsin livestock, but not the only one. Ben Jarboe Talks with Mike Goel of G&S agriculture in Whitewater about the current hay supply. With drought impact several hay producing states in the west, Goel says there is high demand for quality hay. He also cautions that there's plenty of poor hay in the market because of the rain Wisconsin experienced. He expects some farmers to gravitate towards soybean meal and other supplements as the year moves on. It's estimated that the average dairy farm uses between 800-1200 kilowatt-hours(kWh) of energy PER COW annually. That's a big energy bill for a farm to manage. Focus on Energy partners with dairies all across the state on new builds, and renovations to try and parse that bill down. Pam Jahnke saw proof of that partnership at the 2025 WI Farm Technology Days Show. Clinton Farms, the host, just completed a 50-cow rotary parlor. A huge construction project that involved Focus on Energy advisors. Sharing the story are Brad Clinton, owner/operator of Clinton Farm and Jessica Mlsna, a Focus on Energy Advisor. Shawn O'Malley and Daniel Mahnke break down Lululemon (ticker: LULU), an iconic brand famous for pioneering the now ubiquitous athleisure industry. Lululemon has a fiercely loyal customer base, with industry-leading rates of repeat customers, sales per square foot of retail space, and very little need for discounting, if any. In this episode, you'll learn about why the market has soured on this powerful brand, despite incredible success growing internationally, leaving its P/E ratio at a relatively low 15-16x. You'll also learn about how Lululemon controls all of its touchpoints with customers, selling primarily DTC, as opposed to wholesale like Nike and Adidas do, as well as whether LULU is attractively valued today, plus so much more! IN THIS EPISODE, YOU'LL LEARN 00:00 – Intro 04:23 - Why Lululemon has such a cult-like following. 07:19 - What makes Lululemon products so special. 15:41 - How new competitors are challenging Lululemon on the margins. 20:59 - How the future of Lululemon may be defined by China and menswear. 26:48 - Why the setup for LULU stock may be even more attractive than Nike. 53:48 - What to know about possible yellow flags with the business, like its declining inventory turnover ratio and expanding cash conversion cycle. 01:01:57 - Why the company's acquisition of the sports-tech hardware company, Mirror, failed so miserably. 01:07:15 - How to think about modeling LULU's intrinsic value. 01:16:16 - Whether Shawn and Daniel add LULU to their Intrinsic Value Portfolio. *Disclaimer: Slight timestamp discrepancies may occur due to podcast platform differences. California Farming Voices: On today's AgNet News Hour, host Nick Papagni and co-host Josh McGill take listeners on a tour of California agriculture, from the dairies of Hanford to the John Deere showroom in Madera. The episode features two in-depth interviews—first with dairy farmer Case Anker, then with Stan Nelson of Midland Tractor—offering a ground-level view of farming challenges and innovations across the Golden State. Anker, a third-generation dairyman, shares how his family's operation balances cow comfort with fluctuating market conditions. From citrus peel feed to molasses treats, he explains that keeping cows cool and stress-free is just as critical as feed quality. While 2024 has brought fair milk and feed prices, Anker notes the dairy business demands resilience—farmers must be ready for both good and bad years, setting aside reserves for leaner times. He encourages consumers to support dairies by buying milk, cheese, pizza, and other dairy products, highlighting the pride and stewardship that comes with caring for animals and the land. The show then shifts north to Madera, where Nelson discusses Midland Tractor's 40-year history serving California growers. With service trucks covering territory from Bakersfield to Yuba City, Midland specializes in providing efficient, cutting-edge John Deere equipment for orchards, vineyards, and specialty crops. Nelson details the growing role of technology in agriculture, from precision spray systems to emerging autonomous tractor solutions. He emphasizes the industry's reliance on water, noting that reliable supply and storage are essential not only for farms but for the many allied businesses that support them. Daniel & Shawn dive into Remitly, the digital remittance platform aiming to disrupt a $2 trillion global market. After years of prioritizing customer acquisition and corridor expansion over profits, Remitly is now approaching a critical inflection point, one where scale, margin leverage, and cash generation could unlock a new phase of investor confidence. But there are risks as well: crypto-native challengers, regulatory uncertainty, and broader concerns about the remittance industry all raise the question of whether the upside is worth the risk. Here, they unpack Remitly's moat, including its direct payout network, risk engine, and customer trust, and assess whether these factors are enough to fend off cheaper, faster payment rails, such as stablecoins. They walk through the company's unit economics and what the valuation model implies under both steady-state and high-growth scenarios. Along the way, they compare Remitly's customer lock-in strategy to Booking.com, examine the remittance corridor dynamics in India, the Philippines, and Latin America, and debate whether this is a misunderstood fintech with enduring staying power or a product ripe for crypto disruption. IN THIS EPISODE, YOU'LL LEARN 00:00 – Intro 01:08 – How the remittance market works 01:50 – Why Western Union struggles to compete with Remitly 02:16 – Why and how Remitly was founded 04:48 – What risks Remitly faces 05:01 – How stablecoins could disrupt the remittance industry 11:34 – What competitive advantages Remitly has 17:16 – What digital-first companies compete with Remitly 24:37 – Why scale is everything in the payments sector 27:56 – Whether Remitly is attractively valued at its current levels 29:27 – Whether Shawn & Daniel add RELY to The Intrinsic Value Portfolio *Disclaimer: Slight timestamp discrepancies may occur due to podcast platform differences. This episode is a wild ride from start to finish. We open with the ongoing WNBA drama that's been lighting up headlines, then dive into a conversation about high-speed police chases versus slow, off-road getaways—not real case breakdowns, just our take on which we'd rather attempt and the dangers of each. Things really kick into gear when we get into listener Q&A. We talk about why Bobby Lee sold his John Deere 4030, which leads to a deeper discussion about running reliable equipment that fits your operation—especially if you're a one-man show. From there, we talk about the pros and cons of working alone, and how that can affect the flow and efficiency of farm work. We also get into the best cattle strategies if you're starting out with just 10 acres, covering practical advice for beginners looking to make the most of small land. Later in the show, we close things out with a conversation around moral dilemmas, sparked by a discussion about OnlyFans and relationships—but we'll let you decide where that rabbit hole leads. It's another jam-packed, no-filter episode of Talk Dirt To Me—raw, real, and straight from the heart of rural America. The auction block comes alive across the Upper Midwest in this dynamic exploration of recent sales and upcoming opportunities with America's Land Auctioneer hosts Andy Mrnak and Jim Sabe.In the rolling green landscapes of Buffalo Gap, South Dakota, and the bustling main street of Bowman, North Dakota, recent auctions have showcased everything from pristine farm equipment to collector-worthy vehicles. A 2014 John Deere tractor with low hours commanded $67,000, while classic car enthusiasts drove bidding to $44,500 for a 2008 Shelby Mustang GT500 with just 2,050 miles. Perhaps most heartwarming was the donation auction of a 2015 Tiffin motor coach that brought $172,500 for the North Dakota Cowboy Hall of Fame, with bidders flying in from as far as Michigan. The hosts provide valuable market insights throughout - front-wheel assist tractors and four-wheel drives maintain strong values, while the once-hot market for "square body" Chevy pickups shows signs of cooling as more inventory becomes available. Clean, well-maintained equipment stored indoors consistently outperforms similar aged machinery with weather damage, underscoring the importance of proper care for maximum return. For landowners considering selling, the conversation shifts to strategic auction planning, with fall (September-December) and spring (February-June) identified as prime selling seasons. The upcoming 20th anniversary Western Dakota Land Auction takes center stage as a premier multi-day event bringing together sellers and qualified buyers from across the country, particularly for properties with valuable water features.Whether you're looking to turn equipment into cash, transition farmland to new ownership, or simply understand current market conditions, this episode provides a comprehensive roadmap through today's agricultural auction landscape. Season 5: Episode 212 In this episode of North American Ag Spotlight, Chrissy Wozniak is joined by Jaime Jerrels, Senior Director of Policy and Outreach at the Florida Farm Bureau Federation, to discuss one of the most powerful and overlooked challenges in agriculture today: farmer mental health. Florida Farm Bureau, in partnership with UF/IFAS and the Mind Your Melon Foundation, has released its first-ever statewide mental health report—and the findings are deeply personal, alarming, and a call to action.Jaime brings more than just her professional insights to the conversation. Raised on a peanut and cattle farm in Levy County and now raising five children on that same land with her husband, she speaks from the heart—both as a policy advocate and as a woman of faith. Her passion for standing in the gap for farmers who often carry the weight of the world in silence is rooted in her belief that agriculture is more than an industry—it's a mission field. The conversation goes far beyond statistics, touching on hurricanes, financial stress, isolation, and the unique burdens of rural life. Jaime shares her firm belief that faith, prayer, and community can bring healing and strength where it's needed most. She encourages struggling producers to lean on their relationship with God, seek out trusted connections, and remember that telehealth and other support tools are available—and confidential.Chrissy and Jaime also explore the critical role churches, Farm Bureau, and peer-to-peer relationships play in restoring connection and hope to those silently struggling.Learn more and view the full 2025 Mind Your Melon Farmer Wellbeing Survey at: https://www.floridafarmbureau.orgNorth American Ag is devoted to highlighting the people & companies in agriculture who impact our industry and help feed the world. Daniel Mahncke and Shawn O'Malley take a closer look at Estée Lauder's turbulent turnaround, tracing the beauty giant's fall from pandemic favorite to contrarian play. After years of strong growth, the company was hit by an inventory pileup, the collapse of China's daigou shopping channel, and a broader slowdown in its most important market. Daniel and Shawn debate how realistic a turnaround is, whether the risk/reward resembles Nike's recent playbook, and what needs to go right for Estée Lauder to reclaim its former strength. They also touch on wider beauty industry trends, the role of R&D as a competitive moat, internal tensions within the Lauder family, and the growing strategic weight of China for global fashion and cosmetics brands.
