Avenue Red were grateful to ourselves for having made the impeccable choice to rock up in Margate on the extreme southeast edge of England to witness a phenomenal event back in April. Masterclass sets from all who played there, with this live set from Reedale Rise (real name Simon Keat) being one of the highlights to shine on this wonderful soundsystem in a visually stunning venue. It was ace to also unexpectedly bump into some key agents of organised UK underworld deepness, including Miles Atmospheric of Atmospheric Existence Recordings, Bovill of cult label Meanwhile and many others! Quality > quantity. Keep the faith and enjoy the ride, the tide and the vibes inside! 🌊🌊🌊 "This set was recorded directly from my live performance at Faith In Strangers, Margate earlier this year for Ornate Music and 50arc. The venue is fantastic with a beautifully tuned sound system, views over the sea, and lovely hospitable staff. The event was a chance for me to catch up with people I'd not seen since before the pandemic and put some faces to online names, including Avenue Red's very own Alec. My live set has changed a lot over the years and the current evolution is all unreleased house and techno tracks. The music I play live has moved in this direction simply because it's more relevant to the dancefloor and more fun to perform to a crowd than some of my deeper electro tracks. Gear-wise, I've added a Roland TR8S drum machine to Ableton, which has allowed me more opportunity to improvise and react spontaneously. Listening back, I'm happy with how the set sounds and hope it resonates with people. Shouts to James Ornate, Damo B, and the 50arc crew for letting me play, and to Alec for both attending the event and hosting my set." During the reign of the Ottoman Empire, baths were also built on this particular site. The "magical healing spring" was used by the Turkish during the 16th and 17th centuries.  "The bath was called Sárosfürdő ("muddy" bath) because the mineral mud settled at the bottom of pools. Ancient Persia is a land that evokes self-surrender as lanterns adorned with shimmering jewels illuminate the cobblestone pathways, casting a soft glow upon the majestic palaces and bustling marketplaces. Under the mystical cloak of a Persian night, where the moon hangs like a silver lantern in the velvet sky, tales of enchantment weave through the air like wisps of fragrant incense. Secrets of the magical Genie are whispered on the breeze, promising wonders beyond imagination. In these bewitching hours, when the stars wink knowingly and the jasmine-scented air hums with anticipation, magic carpet rides become a reality, carrying intrepid souls on journeys through time, space and enchanting realms. With genies as guides, their laughter echoing in the star-strewn heavens, adventurers are swept into realms of dreams and destiny, where every wish is a shimmering jewel awaiting discovery. The air is perfumed with exotic spices and blooming roses, weaving a tapestry of fragrance that dances on the breeze. Tall minarets rise like slender towers towards the heavens, adorned with intricate carvings and shimmering mosaics that catch the setting sun's light. Cobblestone streets wind through bustling bazaars, where merchants peddle their wares amidst a kaleidoscope of colours and sounds. Ornate palaces with domed rooftops and arched doorways stand as silent sentinels of a bygone era, their walls adorned with intricate arabesques and delicate tilework that glimmer in the soft glow of lantern light. And amidst it all, the call to prayer echoes through the evening air, an angelic melody that speaks of centuries of faith and devotion. About the Mansion St. Joseph is known for an extensive collection of beautiful mansions built in the late 1800s, and the Wyeth Tootle Mansion at the corner of 11th and Charles Streets is a prime example. Built in 1879 by William and Eliza Wyeth, this 43 room mansion was designed to emulate the castles along the Rhine River in Germany. The Wyeth family only lived in the home for approximately 8 years before the home was sold to Kate Tootle. The Tootle family remained in the home until 1947 when it was purchased by William Goetz (owner of Goetz Brewery) to be used as the St. Joseph Museums. With three floors, a tower and more than 40 rooms, it stands today as one of the best examples of St. Joseph's late 19th century wealth and opulence, featuring stunning woodwork, hand-painted ceilings and imported stained glass. The first floor of the Wyeth Tootle Mansion has been partially restored to its Victorian grandeur. Old photographs of each room help visitors visualize the interior as it was around 1900. Each room's ceiling is impressively different, from the cherubs that float above the Louis XVI parlor to the dark rich colors that cover the Moorish room. Ornate parquet floors and walnut woodwork change from room to room. The upper stories contain museum exhibits. Exhibits Edifice:  The Architecture of E. J. Eckel. The architect of the Wyeth-Tootle Mansion and the founder of the firm responsible for 75 percent of the buildings in St. Joseph.  The exhibit focuses on his life and the lasting impact of his accomplishments. Intersections:  Of Time and Buildings. This exhibit is housed in three renovated rooms on the second floor.  The exhibit explores the intersections of history, art, architecture, and humanities as well as the past, present, and future of the City.  Museum professionals, preservationists, scholars, and local artists all worked together on this innovative project.   Intersections is a combination art exhibit, exploration of St. Joseph's history, and imagining of the role of historic preservation in the City's future.   The exhibit was created by the St. Joseph Museum in partnership with the Missouri Humanities Council with support from the National Endowment for the Humanities, and Friends of St. Joseph. Confluence: The Great Flood of 1993. An exhibit that chronicles flooding in the St. Joseph area, including the flood in 1952 that covered much of Lake Contrary Amusement Park.  The details on the causes and impacts of the 1993 Flood will be included as a cathartic remembrance of those trying months in the summer of 1993 when much of the Midwest was under water.  The name of the exhibit “Confluence” refers to the merging of rivers and flood waters, as well as the coming together of communities in the face of one of the costliest natural disasters in history.   History of the St. Joseph Museum. Step back in time through the extensive history of the St. Joseph Museum. Founded in 1927 as the Children's Museum, the St. Joseph Museum has called five locations its home over the near century it has been in existence. The items displayed in this exhibit are some of the earliest donations which were on display when the museum first opened in the annex of the St. Joseph Public Library. The last episode before Halloween and it's suitably about my favourite book of the year: Andy Davidson's The Hollow KindAndy is the Stoker-nominated author of In the Valley of the Sun and The Boatman's Daughter. The Hollow Kind is his third book and it packs a lot into its 400 pages. It's as dense and weighty as an imploding paper star. It's a haunted house story (of sorts), a creature feature (of sorts) and a whole lot of Southern Gothic of many kinds. The prose is lush and wow, does Andy know a lot about the history of Georgia both human and natural. We talk about that, as well as the link between industry and horror, the allure of extreme violence, and the sheer delight of finding a map at the front of a book. Plus, we go a little deeper than usual into the nature and origins of the evil at the heart of the story.Enjoy and have a happy Halloween my horror-loving siblings! The Hollow Kind was released on October 11th by MCD Other books mentioned in this episode include:The Boatman's Daughter (2020), by Andy DavidsonConvulsive (2022), by Joe KochAbsalom, Absalom! Fr. Mike explains the many parables we hear today in Matthew, including the return of the unclean spirit, and the danger of ornate souls. He emphasizes that when God sweeps the sin out of our souls, we must replace it with virtue, otherwise our souls remain empty without a relationship with God. Today's readings are Matthew 11-13 and Proverbs 19:5-8. For the complete reading plan, visit ascensionpress.com/bibleinayear. Newark's Beer Revival: An Interview and Conversation with Steve Hughes

Over a century ago, walking down the streets of Newark, constant reminders of Newark's preeminent brewing and beermaking industry would have scattered the landscape. Massive factories like Ballantine's and Kruger's would have churned out hundreds of barrels of lager and ale each day. Ornate mansions built by the owners and executives of these brands dotted neighborhoods. That is to say nothing about the hundreds of bars, taverns, and taprooms throughout the different ethnic communities throughout the city. While many have ascribed Newark's success with brewing to the water flowing from the Appalachian Highlands to the city, the story is really a demographic one. Newark was host to English, Scots-Irish, German, Polish, and Irish (Catholic) immigrants, all with proven beer cultures that they brought from the Old World. It was this great demand for beer along with the requisite know-how that launched the city into the pantheon of great American beer cities. Nevertheless, a combination of Prohibition, deindustrialization, and a mass exodus of many of these same immigrant groups all but hollowed out Newark's brewing industry. The only remnant of that industry, for decades, was the Anheuser-Busch plant that straddles the Newark-Elizabeth border. Steve Hughes, co-owner and operator of Newark Local Beer, is looking to turn this narrative around. Launched in 2021, Newark Local Beer sits at the base of Walker House on Broad Street and offers over ten different beers on site. Steve came onto the podcast to discuss his vision, why he is brewing in Newark, and what the brewery has in store for the city. Guest:Steve Hughes—Steve and his wife, Miller, are the owners of Newark Local Beer. He was born and raised in Hanover, New Hampshire. Miller grew up in Shaker Heights, Ohio. The couple now reside in Montclair, New Jersey with their two children. As craft brewing has revived interest in taste and variety, we're seeing preferences diverge from country to country. . . . Belgians are making hoppy beers, and Americans are making Belgian ales. The French are making cask ale, and the British are discovering craft lager. These trends get fed back into the cultural mill, shifting and mutating until they've created something yet again different and new. We can't know how beer will taste in fifty years except to say this: It won't taste like it does now.”—The Beer Bible by Jeff Alworth

When you hear or think of the word, "church" what comes to mind? Ornate buildings? Organized religion? Control? Many people grow up in church, but may have never thought of the meaning of the church or what is the essence of the church? In this episode of The Let's Get Real Podcast with Rob Lundberg, Rob presents the meaning of the word, church and explains the church as both visible and local church is, of course, the physical churches that we see around us and around the world, as well as the members of those churches. The invisible and universal church, however, refers to all believers everywhere. But what does the terms visible and invisible church mean? What is the Christian Church and what is it supposed to do? What images is the church supposed to convey and is the Christian Church divided or united? And if it is united, as Rob will share, what is the message that unites all members of the invisible church? This episode is the first brick of a foundational series that will move to addressing this issues the church is facing in a post truth culture. Do not miss next week's episode, when Rob answers the question, "What is Christianity?" As he moves through these subjects you will see how it will unfold into addressing the aberrant interpretations of church and Christianity. Whether you have been turned off by the church, or have been raised in church, you will want to hear the explanations given this in this episode. If you have any questions, you can send those questions to roblundberg315@gmail.com. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/rob-lundberg/message

If you've ever sat in a darkened movie theater chances are you've also balanced a bag of popcorn on your lap while indulging in fistfulls of the salty snack people love so much. Ornate movie palaces with crystal chandeliers, marble-lined hallways, billiards rooms, and even drop-off daycare centers drew wealthier customers and were initially intolerant of messy and disruptive snacks. In fact, this—the original clandestine movie snack—didn't make it out into the open until once movies became “talkies” with the film's sound covering the noises of people eating. But, let's roll time back even further and learn about maize being cultivated 8,000 years ago and how this evolved into such a tasty treat.

Ornate mirrors, stylish sideboards, beautiful chairs, pieces that dance on the boundary of fine art and functional furniture. We talk everything from second careers, to her big break with Sibella Court and Antrhopologie, to securing gallery representation with Sally Dan Cuthbert. His tendency to cerebrate, in fact, is relentless. Nasa routinely turns his mind inwards to examine, question, and expose the inner workings, even the contradictions, of his own personality.

What about 7-11s that are converted into Pentecostal churches? Is "the church" the building, or the people? And should it have sacred art or not? How does this relate to idolatry? Does the incarnation change the relationship to art? Should the church building itself project a sense of the sacred? Or, on the other hand, should it all be stripped down to the pure word? Is there more to religion than mere intellectual content? If so, how should it be expressed?

The Summer months always seem to drag on for me. I think that is because I am laser focused on the Fall. I love the Fall. It is my favorite season for so many reasons, not the least of which are the design focused events that happen around Southern California. This is why I started the Design Influencer Series in May and we have already held three amazing events. This was the third in this on-going series and the topic, as we approach Fall was “Collecting and Organization.”  The Marie Kondo craze has taken full effect, and to be quite honest with you, I’m not really sure how I feel about it so I wanted to ask the professionals. This gathering was held at the Ornate showroom on Beverly Blvd in West Hollywood. The ideas was a bit overwhelming for me and imagine it is for many of you as well. Folding, purging, clearing out your ‘stuff’ and not collecting more. Seems like a foreign concept, but I wanted some fresh insights. Here is who joined the discussion: Jason Lai L2 Interiors https://www.instagram.com/l2interiors/ @JasonLai.InteriorDesigner Lori Dennis Lori Dennis, Inc. https://www.loridennis.com/about/ @LoriDennisInc Eva Sobesky EIS Interiors http://www.eisstudio.com/about @EIS_Studio   Brian Wickersham AUX Architecture https://auxoffice.com/about/ @AUXArchitecture Christopher Mercier (FER) Studio https://www.instagram.com/ferstudio/ @FerStudio Joseph Speirer Joseph Speirer Architects https://www.calarchitect.com/ @JosephSpeirerArchitects Jeff Valenson Jeff Valenson Design https://jeffvalensondesign.com/about.html @JeffValensonDesign Lynnea Schweiters Lynnea Jean Design http://www.lynneajean.com/ @LynneaJean Stephanie Leese L2 Interiors https://www.instagram.com/l2interiors/ @L2Interiors It was amazing to hear what this distinguished group of creatives think about the concept of self-edit, clutter, organization and accumulation of ‘stuff’. The ‘Stuff’ Culture and the Art of the Edit. Ours is a society built on things. If one has many things, one requires many places to house ones them. For many reasons, this is changing. It has to change. Climate change is affected by over production, over development, over delivery and over consumption. How does a designer who favors Maximalism operate in a world favoring less. It seems they edit more than they have in the past. The edit has always been part of the design process. It has always been an asset to those creatives who could honestly create using all their skills and still walk a few ideas back afterwards. That no longer appears to be a luxury. Collecting Vs. Clutter.  There is a difference between the non-purposeful accumulation of things and a curated collection of objects. The former is what happens to most of us through the course of our lives. A ‘thing’ here, article of clothing there and before you are even aware, it has led to the destruction of your space’s harmony and peace. The key to Marie Kondo’s philosophical approach to de-cluttering lies in the ability to be honest and self-edit with purpose. How many of us can really do that. Yet another value proposition for the design and architecture community. Designer and architect Role’s Are Greater Than Ever Before. Traditional roles for designers and architects to create spaces and places are changing rapidly due to a litany of factors that all emanate from the changing definition of “home” and what functionality we require of our space. We live in a consumer based society and a trend has emerged that challenges the very notion of what we buy and why we buy it. The idea of buying, not simply to consume or ‘keep up with the Jones’s.  Editor’s Note: those ‘Jonses’, can’t stand them but they are real. We all know them and whether real or imagined, there is a strong urge to keep up with the latest in style and design, fashion, etc. As long as wealth continues to serve as an outward barometer of s...

Moodymanc is continuing to cause a big stir amongst the house community of late. Having previously released under the guise of Dubble D and performing drum and production duties with 20 20 Soundsystem (which has put him on the front cover of DJ magazine!). Danny Ward now delivers house bombs as Moodymanc that are being championed by the premier league of artists and music lovers across the board. Moodymanc has had great success with recent E.P's on labels such as Tsuba, Neurotraxx Deluxe, 20 20 Vision, Dessous and Kolour to name a few. His status as a DJ, producer, remixer and highly acclaimed jazz musician continue to elevate as his honed talents set him apart from the rest. He has been in massive demand as a re-mixer, with recent mixes including Affkt's "Lost Key" on Suara, A Marques "New Orleans" on Sol Recordings and Kisk's "DIY2" on Apparel music gaining much chart success. Re-mixes for Ornate Music, Apparel music, Abstaract Theory and others are being released over the next few months. Moodymanc's "Seedz", from the same titled E.P has been re-released on Tsuba's latest compilation and featured on Cocoon's "Green and Blue" compilation. As well as this he has current releases on Neurotraxx deluxe (which stayed at no.2 in the beatport deep house charts), Centric Music, Scenic Tones and Apparel music. He has a current release on 'Tsuba Colours': the 'paint it black' EP featuring a re-mix by US house legend Larry Heard, which is creating a big buzz amongst the house faithful and press alike. The vinyl pressing sold out within a week and went to re-press after gaining more than 7000 plays on soundcloud in the week before release. It has just been released digitally on Beatport etc and looks like charting highly here too. Other releases are imminent on Ornate, 20 20 Vision, Abstarct Theory and Centric Music with more planned into the summer.
