Here's an unusual compliment: “Evie has amazing eyes that can emote both compassion and complete psychotic behaviour.” This is a director describing Evie Templeton, who at 16 stars in the hit Netflix series Wednesday. What keeps pulling us back to the grid when the box office never quite follows? We dive into the whole Tron continuum—from the 1982 cult seed and the overlooked Tron 2.0, through Joseph Kosinski's neon‑sleek Tron Legacy and the bridge‑building of Tron: Uprising, to the new red‑glow reality of Tron Ares. Along the way, we tackle the question fans argue and studios dodge: is Tron actually sci‑fi, or is it fantasy that borrows the language of computers to tell a myth about creators and creation? We revisit the ‘82 release headwinds against E.T., the home video era that gave Tron a second life, and the game that quietly solved problems the films wouldn't touch—interconnected systems, corporate corruption, and viruses as character. Then we contrast Legacy's towering strengths—world‑class design and that Daft Punk score—with its habit of hinting at great themes and jumping to the next set piece. We talk de‑aging that breaks immersion, the ISO genocide that begs for deeper stakes, and why treating the grid as a pocket universe makes the story read cleanly as fantasy. From there, we unpack Ares: fabrication lasers that print bodies, light cycles roaring down city avenues, and a Pinocchio arc that raises huge ethical questions without living in the answers. We debate why bringing grid logic into the real world collapses internal rules, how soundtracks keep rescuing the vibe (hello, Nine Inch Nails), and why executives remain convinced Tron can still become the thing we remember it to be. Our take: the concept is timeless, the execution needs courage—consistent rules, character‑driven choices, and ideas that don't blink when the action starts. If you love the glow but crave the follow‑through, this one's for you. Listen, share with a fellow program, and leave us a review with your verdict: should Tron lean full fantasy or build a harder sci‑fi spine? Subscribe so you don't miss what derezzes next.

In the final episode of Old Spook Lane Creepy Chats of 2025 covering spooky stop motion animated films, Arun and Patricia discuss about the 2022 Netflix animated film Wendell & Wild directed by Henry Selleck and co-written by Selleck and Jordan Peele. A teenage juvenile delinquent named Kat Elliot returns to her hometown Rust Bank to a private Catholic school. Her parents had died in a car accident 5 years prior and she still carries the guilt that she was responsible for it. Meanwhile, two demon brothers named Wendell and Wild wish to start their own theme park after being punished to care for their father's hair. When they learn that the hair cream can raise people from the dead, they see a vision of Kat and believe they can convince her to make their dream a reality. Kat wishes to use them to get her parents resurrected using the same hair cream. When the film premiered on Netflix, it was given decent reviews by critics for its animation, characters, and atmosphere, but was criticized for the story being too overstuffed and convoluted. It was also overshadowed by other stop motion animated films that were released that year such as The House, Marcel the Shell with Shoes On, and Guillermo Del Toro's Pinocchio. What did Arun and Patricia think of this film?

Patti Smith, “the Godmother of Punk,” has lived a wild life and accumulated so much wisdom in the process. In the 1960s and '70s, Smith was a fixture of the New York City creative scene — hanging out with the likes of Bob Dylan, Janis Joplin, Allen Ginsberg and Robert Mapplethorpe. Merging her own poetry with an ace backing band, she became a global rock star. Then she gave it up, moved to Michigan, raised a family, and remade herself into a best-selling author. Her stunning memoir “Just Kids” won the National Book Award and is one of the books that I've kept returning to, again and again. There is clearly something unusual about Smith. People who know her have described her as “shamanistic.” But even for those of us who will never become rock stars, there's something inspiring — and oddly relatable — in how she thinks about life. So I was excited to have the opportunity to sit down with her and learn more.Smith is out with a new memoir, “Bread of Angels,” and is on tour for the 50th anniversary of her breakthrough album, “Horses.” We talk about that book and that album and so much more: the boundless curiosity that drives her; the books that shaped her; her childhood communion with a snapping turtle; what Andy Warhol was like; what color she thinks the soul is; and a lot more that's hard even to describe. This episode contains strong language.Mentioned:“Pan's Labyrinth” by Guillermo del ToroGrimm's Complete Fairy Tales by Jacob Grimm and Wilhelm GrimmBread of Angels by Patti SmithJust Kids by Patti Smith“The Dark Blot” by Gérard de Nerval“Genie” by Arthur Rimbaud“Guernica” by Pablo Picasso“The Last Supper” by Andy WarholBook Recommendations:The Adventures of Pinocchio by Carlo CollodiFrankenstein by Mary ShelleyThe Poetry of Sylvia Plath Edited by Claire Brennan2666 by Roberto BolañoThoughts? Episode 55 looks at the first batch of results released about the 'Winnipeg Transit Violent Crime Intervention Strategy' and the enforcement focus on fare-jumpers.Marty Gold evaluates the numbers, including attempted fare skipping and those who took a hike when asked at the bus stops to verify they had the money to pay. There are also statistics on criminal charges laid by cops for either on-the-spot infractions or for prior cases. The numbers show how out of control things were allowed to get. While Mayor Scott Gillingham and Public Works chair Janice Lukes are lauding the way the initiative has addressed violent and disruptive behaviour and enhanced Transit safety, their comments may rub some folks the wrong way. Especially when the public is told "we need everyone to do their part" yet the situation was allowed to get out of control by City Councillors refusing to have fare collection enforced years ago. There's more bells and whistles coming too - a "fare education campaign" and a Transit megaphone announcing fare paymen is required as buses pull up.to stops. That's another example of something that could have been implemented last year, and didn't have to wait until the next civic election was on the horizon.******Our latest columns in the Winnipeg Sun:Nov. 5- "Despite the ongoing chaos, visible fire hazards, dirty used needles and close proximity to a child care facility and high-density residential properties, the city allowed the situation to continue until, on Sunday, there were two major blazes– one at each of those locations - within 12 hours. Un'altra puntata di notizie miste, ostacolate da una fortissima luna del castoro che incombe sul team di Pinocchio.
Send us a textA ruby-red cocktail, a carousel in view, and a debate we've wanted to settle for ages: which Fantasyland truly delivers the magic? We put Disneyland and Magic Kingdom head-to-head on the four things that matter most to park fans—food, layout, rides, and shows—and the results aren't as simple as coast pride. We start with the Handsome Brute and a quick reality check on price, then dive into dining. Florida brings the firepower with Cinderella's Royal Table, Be Our Guest, Gaston's Tavern, and a spread of quick-service spots, while Anaheim counters with the fan-favorite Red Rose Tavern and that coveted Grey Stuff. From value to character dining, we map where each land feeds your day best. Then we shift to what you feel the second you step through the castle. Disneyland's Fantasyland is a storybook square—tight, kinetic, and overflowing with classics like Mr. Toad, Alice, Pinocchio, and the canal boats, anchored by the Matterhorn. Magic Kingdom stretches wider, with Seven Dwarfs Mine Train at its core and Storybook Circus on the edge; it's generous in space and rich in queues, but less cohesive in spirit. On shows and characters, Florida wins with Mickey's PhilharMagic, Enchanted Tales with Belle, Princess Fairytale Hall, and reliable meet-and-greets. On rides, California's stacked lineup and intimate flow make a powerful case for the original. We wrap with practical strategy: rope drop plans, when to chase Peter Pan, how better queues can redeem longer waits, and why layout shapes the mood of your entire day. If you love the deep comfort of Disney nostalgia or crave a day packed with dining and character moments, you'll know exactly where to go next.If this helped you choose your next park day, follow the show, share it with a Disney-loving friend, and leave a quick review to tell us which Fantasyland gets your vote.
It's no secret that young men are sort of unwell. They are four times more likely to kill themselves, three times more likely to struggle with addiction, and 12 times more likely to be incarcerated than women. If that weren't enough, record numbers of men are not getting married, not dating, not enrolling in school or working, and struggling with serious mental health issues. In response, a cottage industry has emerged—full of influencers and paid courses claiming to teach young men how to become “high value.” But there seems to be a deeper intractable challenge: Young people lack meaning. Fifty-eight percent of young adults say they've experienced little or no sense of purpose in their lives over the past month. Shilo Brooks has a simple idea for all of it. He's telling young men—and really, all young people—to read. Yes, read. The idea is simple: Reading great books can make stronger and better men. He knows he's facing an uphill battle: Reading for pleasure among American adults has dropped 40 percent in the past 20 years. In 2022, only 28 percent of men read a fiction book, compared to 47 percent of women—a 19-point gap. Shilo doesn't have the stereotypical profile for a “lit boy,” as Gen Z might describe him. He's from a small town in Texas and has a thick Southern drawl. When he was a baby, his stepfather stole his mother's savings, leaving them with nothing. And he almost didn't go to college because he couldn't afford it. But today, Shilo is president and CEO of the George W. Bush Presidential Center and Professor of Practice in the Department of Political Science at Southern Methodist University. He has also taught at Princeton, the University of Virginia, the University of Colorado, and Bowdoin College. His prescription is simple. Shilo says: “Great works of literature are entertaining, but they are not mere entertainment. A great book induces self-examination and spiritual expansion. When a man is starved for love, work, purpose, money, or vitality, a novel wrestling with these themes can be metabolized as energy for the heart. When a man suffers from addiction, divorce, self-loathing, or vanity, his local bookstore can become his pharmacy.” This is the driving vision of the new podcast he just launched with The Free Press, called Old School, where he talks to guests about the books that shaped their lives: Fareed Zakaria on The Great Gatsby, Nick Cave on The Adventures of Pinocchio, Richard Dawkins on P.G. Too often, Soulslikes build around the superficial qualities of FromSoftware's hits and neglect the secret sauce (or miss it entirely). Luckily for me and those who feel the same way, Round8 Studio and Neowiz knocked it out of the park with their Pinocchio-inspired Soulslike, Lies of P. I felt right at home playing through this, and it turned into a really fun conversation. Welcome to a Brain Wrinkling Wednesday with Fr. Tom Koys. Today Father speaks regarding a recent event from the Vatican in which an ecumenical prayer service took place. Father Koys discusses that event and some of the talking point as it relates to him as an American Catholic Priest. He later discusses an edition of the story of Pinocchio, brought to you by the group Well Read Moms, with reflections by Franco Nembrini. Father reads from the story and as he refers to the story as a Christian parable, he goes on to unpack it for his listeners. St. Stanislaus Kostka Parish

Questa puntata di Pinocchio è dedicata a tutti quelli che si sentono ancora dei teen. Il fenomeno kidult, sentirsi un'età diversa da quella che si ha, e la famosissima crisi di mezza età.
Far from an outstanding film, but amazing to look at and too much fun not to recommend, we had a great time in Tron: Ares, which reverses the reality-computer interface that brought humans into the digital world in the previous two films; it's now the virtual that becomes real. An evil company searches for the code that will give its 3D printed computer assets longevity in the real world - so far, they crumble into dust after about twenty minutes - but the AI tasked with doing so goes rogue, hoping to use the code to bring itself to life. It's Pinocchio and Frankenstein with neon-oozing motorbikes, and as entertaining as that sounds. (We think that sounds entertaining.) Recorded on 12th October 2025.
Carlo Collodi (gestorben am 26.10.1890) erfindet mit Pinocchio eine berühmte Figur der Weltliteratur. Wer ist der Mann hinter der Holzpuppe, deren Nase beim Lügen wächst? Von Monika Buschey.

This week, we descend into the dark fantasy fairytale of Guillermo del Toro's Pan's Labyrinth (2006). Amid the rich craftsmanship of the fantasy world that Ofelia imagines, the film lays bare the horrors of Francoist Spain—all captured through Del Toro's anti-fascist cinema. The calculating evil of Captain Vidal, a devotee of Falangism and a violent patriarch, stands among the most iconic of Del Toro's villains. With fascist rhetoric disturbingly mainstream in contemporary US politics, Pan's Labyrinth feels less like a historical fantasy and more like a warning. It is a portrait of how fascism seeps into the everyday and how resistance can be imagined and realized, even when hope is in short supply. The film's lush fantasy is always shadowed by real life violence, teaching us that fascism flourishes not in isolation but within the systems of power that capitalism creates and legitimizes. We wrap things up with a brief discussion of Pinocchio (2022), where Del Toro, ever the mythmaker, recasts a children's tale set during the rise to power of Italian fascism. The first half was published in serial form between 1881 and 1883, and then completed as a book for children in February 1883. It is about the mischievous adventures of Pinocchio, an animated marionette, and his poor father, a woodcarver named Geppetto. It is considered a classic of children's literature and has spawned many derivative works of art, such as Disney's classic 1940 animated movie of the same name, and commonplace ideas, such as a liar's long nose.(Summary from Wikipedia)Genre(s): Children's Fiction, Myths, Legends & Fairy TalesLanguage: EnglishKeyword(s): literature (1956), children (1104), adventure (1013), boy (12), puppet (4)Support Us at: Donation Page – LibriVox Free Audiobooks

The Hero's Journey and the Map of the Larger Story In this episode of the Exploring More Podcast, Michael Thompson and SJ Jennings dive deeper into the theme of this first series: learning to read the map of the Larger Story. Through the lens of beloved classics like Pinocchio, The Lion King, and The Wizard of Oz, they unpack the shape of the hero's journey and the spiritual landscape we all live in—one marked by darkness and light, conflict and redemption. Michael and SJ explore how the Old and New Covenants frame our understanding of the battle for identity, authority, and purpose. They reflect on personal experiences, spiritual formation, and the power of belief and story in shaping our path. With the help of the digital and physical Zoweh Map, they reveal why orientation and training are critical for every man who wants to know where he is and where he's going. This episode invites you to slow down, study the map, and ask God what He sees in you and your story. Because in a world at war, clarity is everything—and healing begins when we understand the terrain. We hope you enjoy this episode and invite you to connect with us!
