Exploring Health Systems Resilience with Experts. The podcast episode, hosted by Dr. Kim Ozano and co-hosted by Professor Sophie Witter, engages in an insightful discussion on health systems resilience, particularly in fragile settings affected by violence, conflict, pandemics, and other shocks. This conversation is part of a mini-series titled 'Stories of Resilience - Local Lives and Health Systems', powered by the ReBUILD for Resilience research consortium. The episode features insights from Dr. Sushil Baral of HERD International and Dr. Seye Abimbola from the University of Sydney, who share their experiences and reflections on building resilience in health systems. The discussion navigates the complexities of resilience as a concept, emphasising the importance of community engagement, co-creation, and adopting a learning approach to health systems strengthening. The panel explores the balance between self-reliance and demanding accountability from government systems, addressing the power dynamics and the necessity of a fair distribution of responsibilities across levels of governance. In this episode:Dr. Sophie Witter - Professor of International Health Financing and Health Systems, Institute of Global Health and Development, Queen Margaret University, EdinburghSophie has worked in health and development for the past 35 years, starting with development roles at Save the Children and moving on to academia. Much of her work has focused on reducing financial barriers to accessing health care – how can people get the essential care they need without having to make terrible sacrifices? – but she has also worked on many other important health system topics, such as incentivising health care workers and health system strengthening more generally. All of her research is oriented towards implementation – how to make systems work better for people, especially those who are most disadvantaged.Dr Sushil Baral - Managing Director, HERD InternationalDr. Baral, hailing from a remote hill district in Nepal, brings over two decades of experience in health systems, public health policy, and implementation research, with a particular focus on South Asia. His contributions have significantly impacted national and global health systems, policies, and public health agendas. He emphasises evidence-based practices tailored to local contexts, reflecting a dedication to global health research excellence. Dr. Baral's academic journey highlights innovative problem-solving and substantial contributions to health systems, policies, and disaster response in fragile and shock-prone settings in LMICs.Dr Seye Abimbola - Associate Professor of Health Systems, University of Sydney, AustraliaSeye Abimbola is a health systems researcher from Nigeria, where he has worked at the National Primary Health Care Development Agency on initiatives to strengthen the Primary Health Care system across the country so that it can deliver integrated health services to communities. Seye has also been involved in research on how decentralisation affects health system performance and how community health committees influence and support health services in their own communities. Seye is currently based at the University of Sydney in Australia, where his teaching and research focus on knowledge practices in global health, health system governance, and the adoption and scale-up of health system innovations.Want to hear more podcasts like this?Follow Connecting Citizens to Science on your usual podcast platform or YouTube to hear more about the methods and approaches that researchers apply to connect with communities and co-produce solutions to global health challenges. Welcome back to The New Exchange podcast and to very the beginning of season 7. I am beyond excited to share these talks with you, starting with a guest I've been dying to have on here for a long time. Seye Adelekan is a Nigerian-British artist who's toured with Lana Del Rey, Emeli Sandé, KT Tunstall, and Paloma Faith; though he is best known as a prominent live member of Gorillaz's touring party. I first saw Seye onstage at Governors Ball way back in 2014, performing alongside Damon Albarn. Since then, I've been a fan, and seeing his growth as an artist over the years has been something special. Along with being an in-demand touring musician, Seye has also started to release his own solo music. His latest songs have so far explored various shades of human emotions, while also being draped with this tone of intimacy and expansiveness that speaks to his years of experience as an artist. On this premiere episode of the podcast, Seye shares with me his experiences of finding refuge in creativity amidst navigating sobriety, embracing his cultural roots, and also what happens when you start believing in yourself.

We long for our children to grow up knowing that they are loved by and valuable to God as well as to us. But with the rise of eating disorders, self-harm and other destructive behaviours in children and teenagers, parents and children's/youth leaders can feel powerless to share these messages. The Great Product Owner: Learning and Leading through Experiments, The Scrum Master Who Turned Product Owner In this episode, Seye highlights a remarkable product owner with a background as a Scrum Master. Her calm demeanor and willingness to experiment, even without a clear endpoint, stood out. She actively engaged in collaborative experimentation, asking "Can we try this?" and collectively defining and learning from experiments with the team. This experimental mindset contributed to her effectiveness as a Product Owner. Moreover, she adeptly interacted with all team members and had the valuable skill of calming down heated discussions.  The Bad Product Owner: Beyond To-Do Lists, Overcoming Anti-Patterns in Backlog Management In this episode, Seye discusses the disengaged Product Owner (PO) anti-pattern. He underscores the significant impact of PO engagement on performance, highlighting the necessity for their active involvement in discussions that lead to clarity. Other anti-patterns include treating the backlog as a simple "to do list" and having insufficiently detailed backlog items (DEEP Backlog) for prioritization and estimation. These issues stem from diverse causes, such as organizational oversight of product ownership. Seye suggests assisting POs in understanding their role, offering guidance to rectify these patterns and enhance their effectiveness in Agile teams.   [IMAGE HERE] Are you having trouble helping the team work well with their Product Owner? In this episode, Seye delves into his multi-layered perspective on success as a Scrum Master. Firstly, he emphasizes understanding success from the perspective of those he serves, suggesting collaboration to define it. He also sees success in terms of "working software" and advises teams to contextualize its meaning. Seye underscores the human aspect of product development and references the concept of "making people awesome" from Modern Agile. He encourages Scrum Masters to align with their personal values and live them out, adding depth to their success definition in the agile context. Featured Retrospective Format for the Week: Temperature Mapping In this episode, Seye introduces his preferred retrospective formats, starting with "temperature mapping." Using tools like MURAL, this format encourages team members to share their emotions throughout the sprint. Another favorite is the "Sailboat retrospective," employing visuals to stimulate discussion. Seye also advocates for a "futurespective" using storytelling, where teams envision the future. These formats foster open communication, engagement, and forward thinking, enhancing the retrospective experience and driving improvements in the team's agile process.   [IMAGE HERE] Retrospectives, planning sessions, vision workshops, we are continuously helping teams learn about how to collaborate in practice! He highlights the initial step of process assessment and the impact of conflicting factions within a team. The breakdown of processes led to differing interpretations of the team's goals. Seye references Arlo Belshee's work in Agile Engineering Fluency (detailed map here), and suggests establishing work agreements, visualizing the change process, and securing buy-in for effective change. He underscores the importance of collective ownership of change and introduces the idea of a team coaching canvas to facilitate progress. The episode emphasizes collaborative change leadership to address team dynamics and process issues.   [IMAGE HERE] As Scrum Master we work with change continuously! Seye Kuyinu: Agile Re-Teaming For Scale, Restructuring Scrum Teams Along Value Streams Read the full Show Notes and search through the world's largest audio library on Scrum directly on the Scrum Master Toolbox Podcast website: http://bit.ly/SMTP_ShowNotes. In this episode, Seye discusses an organization's journey towards creating value streams and aligning teams accordingly. They adopted the approach of taking teams to the work rather than the reverse. This involved setting up teams for new features, but the structure changed after a few months, leading to reassigning team members. Seye refers to the Tuckman's stages of group development to highlight the transitional nature of teams. In this episode, we also discuss how important it is to focus on setting up a robust infrastructure to make it possible to dynamically reconfigure teams, underlining the importance of adaptability in Agile environments. Featured Book of the Week: The Three Marriages: Reimagining Work, Self and Relationship by David Whyte Seye's recommended book for Scrum Masters is "The Three Marriages: Reimagining Work, Self and Relationship" by David Whyte. The book explores reimagining work and relationships, emphasizing the need for a holistic view rather than strict work-life balance. Another impactful read is “Extraordinarily Badass Agile Coaching: The Journey from Beginner to Mastery and Beyond” by Bob Galen, which transformed Seye's coaching approach. He suggests adapting language to the audience, shifting from software development jargon to business terminology. Seye advocates speaking the language of those being served, aligning communication for more effective collaboration.   [IMAGE HERE] Do you wish you had decades of experience? In this episode, Seye discusses a common anti-pattern that scrum masters can fall into, which involves not recognizing the distinction between Scrum practices and real-world situations. The organization Seye was working at had embraced Agile methodologies. However, Seye found some Agile adoption  issues like never ending meetings, one-hour daily standups, and conflicts during sprint planning. Seye suggests refraining from commanding the team and emphasizes the importance of not imposing the daily stand-up. He reflects on his own experience of lacking context and merely following the Scrum guide. To address this, we discuss forming coaching agreements with teams to ensure mutual understanding and effective implementation of Agile principles. Seye underscores the need for practical adaptation rather than rigid adherence. In this episode, we also refer to Holacracy, and the book Getting Things Done by David Allen.   [IMAGE HERE] Recovering from failure, or difficult moments is a critical skill for Scrum Masters. "Hushpuppi: Notorious Nigerian fraudster jailed for 11 years in US A notorious Instagram influencer from Nigeria has been jailed for more than 11 years in the US for his role in an international fraud syndicate. Hushpuppi, whose real name was Ramon Abbas, flaunted his wealthy lifestyle on his page which had 2.8 million followers until it was disabled. The judge in Los Angeles also ordered him to pay $1,732,841 (£1,516,182) in restitution to two fraud victims. Abbas will serve his sentence of 135 months in a federal prison. ADVERTISEMENT Last year he pleaded guilty to money laundering. Abbas admitted to attempting to steal more than $1.1m from someone who wanted to fund a new children's school in Qatar, court documents in California say. The fraudster tricked his victim into providing funds for the school ""by playing the roles of bank officials and creating a bogus website"", according to a statement from the then-acting US Attorney Tracy Wilkinson on the US justice department's website. Other suspects were allegedly also involved, the US justice department said, with Abbas playing a key role. Abbas also admitted to ""several other cyber and business email compromise schemes that cumulatively caused more than $24 million in losses"", the US justice department said. ""Ramon Abbas... targeted both American and international victims, becoming one of the most prolific money launderers in the world,"" said Don Alway, the assistant director in charge of the FBI's Los Angeles Field Office, in a court document on Monday. ""Abbas leveraged his social media platforms... to gain notoriety and to brag about the immense wealth he acquired by conducting business email compromise scams, online bank heists and other cyber-enabled fraud that financially ruined scores of victims and provided assistance to the North Korean regime. ""This significant sentence is the result of years' worth of collaboration among law enforcement in multiple countries and should send a clear warning to international fraudsters that the FBI will seek justice for victims, regardless of whether criminals operate within or outside United States borders."" Abbas apologised for his crimes to Judge Otis D Wright in a handwritten note, saying he would use his personal funds to pay back his victims. He also said he had only made $300,000 from the crime he was being tried for. Abbas' luxurious lifestyle came to an abrupt end in 2020, when he was arrested while living in Dubai. His Instagram account, which featured pricey cars and designer clothing, was worlds away from his humble beginnings. Hushpuppi IMAGE SOURCE,INSTAGRAM/HUSHPUPPI Image caption, Hushpuppi had a huge following on his now deactivated Instagram account Those who knew Abbas as a child had told the BBC that his father was a taxi driver and his mother a market trader, but as he grew older he developed a weakness for splashing the cash. ""He was generous. He used to buy beer for everyone around,"" a local driver called Seye said. According to Seye, he allegedly started his fraudulent lifestyle as a ""Yahoo boy"", which in Nigeria, refers to men who commit romance fraud by stealing other people's identities online and swindling their none-the-wiser lovers out of money. In 2019, one of Abbas' fraud schemes, which at this point had become worldwide affairs, had plunged the European island of Malta into chaos as payment systems shut down after Abbas tried to launder €13m ($13m) stolen by a gang of North Korean hackers from the Maltese Bank of Valletta in 2019. https://www.bbc.com/news/world-africa-63542573?xtor=AL-72-%5Bpartner%5D-%5Bgnl.newsletters%5D-%5Bheadline%5D-%5Bnews%5D-%5Bbizdev%5D-%5Bisapi%5D&xtor=ES-213-[BBC%20News%20Newsletter]-2022November8-[top+news+stories] " "#TheMummicogblogOfMalta Amazon Top and Flash Deals(Affiliate Link - You will support our translations if you purchase through the following link) - https://amzn.to/3CqsdJH Compare all the top travel sites in just one sear

'He's got a sprinting library. In his house,' Asha Philip asserts from the physio table, as she receives treatment at the end of a long day's training. 'A bag of books,' adds Seye Ogunlewe, sat alongside. You'll have to listen to this episode to find out whether or not Steve Fudge actually owns a collection of speedy tomes, but - either way - his knowledge of the sport is certainly encyclopaedic. His meticulous mechanical coaching is matched only by his intuitive management of each of the athletes within Fudge Project London, where Claire was lucky enough to spend the day. In Loughborough, Fudge worked with Dasaolu, Gemili, Peacock, and Baptiste (amongst others), before moving to London to set up his Fudge Project, where he currently coaches Asha, Seye, Ojie Edoburun, and Imani Lanisquot. It's fair to say that this quartet have the personalities to match their talent, and we gave up trimming it all down into a normal-length episode, so here's a two-hour exploration of one of the most exciting training groups around.
