We hear about all the ways marketers miss the mark - what they do wrong. What if we focused on what they are doing right and then expand the use of those tactics? Some companies have a team of one or less than five and each must wear several hats. If, as a group, you lay out what is working, analyze the results through Google Analytics and pulling in all the pieces, as a group, you can tackle what is next. It may be enhancing the most popular pages you have to ensure you move people along on the journey toward a conversation with your sales team. It may be creating a podcast or other content that appeals to your existing customers as the "inside group" rather than only talking to them when you want to sell them something new.  Jeanne Hopkins goes through ways to bring out the best in the existing marketing plan, letting go of what's not working and allowing companies to divide and conquer what needs to be done to engage, then celebrating the mountain of measurable successes as a group. In this episode of the Social Lights Podcast, podcast host and Social Mediology founder Kate vanderVoort chats with Kara Cronin, community manager, relationship builder and renowned public speaker. Kara is the Community Manager of Community Partnerships at Facebook and is leading the community experience for the Facebook Certified Community Manager program. About Kara Kara has been building community since the age of 6. She fell in love with community building while working as a Sorority Leadership Consultant, and continued pursuing her passion while leading communities at theSkimm and Shine. Kara is now a Community Manger at Facebook where she's using her experience in community building, content creation, grassroots marketing, and event strategy to give people the power to build community and bring the world closer together. She has coached collegiate women to lead award-winning sorority chapters; cultivated a brand ambassador army responsible for 20% of audience growth; led campaigns to educate and motivate over 200,000 people to cast an informed vote in the 2018 midterm election; and connected millions of people across the globe with support, strategies, and resources to prioritize their mental health as members the world's largest self-care community. Kara has been a keynote speaker at the CMX Summit and SocialFresh conferences, a panellist at Be Social Change and Dreamers / Doers, a facilitator for Alpha Delta Pi and LeaderShape, as well as a mentor for FindSpark and Get Sh!t Done Accelerator programs. BIG IDEA 1 “We're in an age of authenticity where people are really supporting the brands and organisations, that customers not only believe in, but are really aligned with, whether it's based on their values or the organisations that they support.” (12:33) Kara says there are so many opportunities for brands and organizations right now to create communities that it's hard to pick just a couple to talk about. She says we're in an age of authenticity where people are really supporting the brands and organisations, that customers not only believe in, but are really aligned with whether it's based on their values or the organizations that they support. It feels different than it did even five - ten years ago in terms of people aren't just buying the big brand anymore, they're buying from the people that really feel authentic and that they feel connected to. She says community, especially a digital community, can just be such an amazing tool to showcase that authenticity, to connect with your consumer and community on a regular basis in a way that's real.  BIG IDEA 2 “Connecting the community members with each other is the most important thing.” (21:13) On the topic of learning how to become a community manager, Kara says connecting community members with each other is the most important thing, especially in a learning group. Because social learning is so important, that peer support, is essential for community managers. To be able to give them a community and provide them with people who get it and can help them along the way, to help them feel supported and help them learn. She says that's why the Facebook Community Manager Certification Learning Group has learning mentors who support the learners in this group. They're there to share personal experiences, host study sessions and answer questions to make sure that people feel like they have someone behind them cheering them on. She says that because not anyone can get certified, to know that not only are you putting in the work, but you have this group of people behind you that really want to see you succeed is important. So, the Facebook Community Manager Certification Learning Group has the learning mentor program set up to help with that. Everything is organised. So if people want to go in and learn at their own pace, they can go through the guides and get directed to all the learning materials very easily.  BIG IDEA 3 “Know why you're starting

Jason Keath is Founder and CEO of Social Fresh, a social media education company. He is a social media analyst and speaker. He graduated from the UNC Charlotte in 2004 with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Design and Photography. He has worked in leadership consulting and as a creative lead for various advertising and digital agencies before becoming an independent consultant in 2008. Since then Jason has worked full time on building Social Fresh, a company that offers insights, training, and education resources to companies that range from the Fortune 50 to small businesses.   Most passionate about Obviously, there have been changes in the world today, but at the root of our business, we are an advent company in many ways. We teach people social media marketing, we teach them how to improve their businesses using social media, we produce in-person conferences, we train some of the big companies, and we do consulting. Recently, obviously, we have been doing much more consulting with medium to large businesses because we can’t do physical events. We pivoted to helping people virtually the best we can. We’ve done virtual events and we’re having a lot of fun with our customers. We’re also doing much more virtual consulting. We help people improve their social media at the highest level. We’ve been doing social media conferences since 2008, and we’ve done more than 25 of them in the US. We are now doing them annually, usually in Florida. Jason’s career and story I was working in agencies as a creative lead—I was an artist-designer and photographer. I was always writing as well; however, I’ve loved most of the creative parts of marketing. I enjoyed working with the agencies, and when social media came on board I was very interested. I experimented a lot with social media, so I started to be more of a strategist in that field. When social media started, people had a ‘trust gap’. Many companies were really interested in social media and started to ask their agencies, “How should it work for us?”, “What should we do?”, and “Where should we be present on social media?” Eventually, I started my own small social agency. Then I sold it and started consulting because I noticed a need for an advent that focused on results for businesses. So, I decided to do it. Originally, the events were meant to drive more business and to help me find more customers for social media consulting. However, that first event ended up more successful and more rewarding than consulting, so I ended up focusing on the events. I’ve done events my whole life. I’ve always helped to produce events, so I felt very comfortable with the medium. I wanted to create an event that I would want to attend, something intimate and practical. I would bring the smartest people I knew from all over the social media industry to get very practical and hands-on, on one stage, one track, having community discussions. This year, we’ve done our first virtual event - Social Fresh X. We focused on how to understand, to adopt, to pivot in response to the pandemic. We had great response there. We had four or five times the number of people who used to attend our in-person conferences, from 90 countries and states. It’s a great way for us to get to more people and we’ll be doing another one at the end of the year. John’s best advice for entrepreneurs Talking to your customers in many ways and getting to the root of their problem. That’s what was the ‘pre success’ of many successful entrepreneurs, and it was ‘pre successful’ for me early on. It has been the main way that we adjust and adapt our product. You need to talk with a few potential customers. Even talking with five people will allow you to see and understand patterns. Biggest failure with customers I think that, in the beginning, we focused too broadly. There are many people who are interested in social media but not as many who are spending money business-wise on making sure social media is a large part of their

We all know what testimonials are but let me really specific here.According to Merriam-Webster, here is what testimony is defined as:a)solemn declaration usually made orally by a witness under oath…b)firsthand authentication of a fact So a customer testimonial is an oath driven factual statement about a company's service or product. I love what the group StrategicFactory said about it on their blog stating“Consumers naturally trust each other more than they trust just marketing collateral, so that testimonial adds more weight to the decision they're trying to make.”Here are some additional statistics as if you didn't need more convincing:•92% of consumers read online reviews and testimonials when considering a purchase. According to Vendasta•95% of people say that reviews – whether positive, or negative – influence their purchasing decisions. Study conducted by Wyzowl•90% of buyers who read positive customer success content claimed that it influenced their purchasing decisions. Study from Dimensional Research•Customer testimonials have the highest effectiveness rating for content marketing at 89% research from Social Fresh•47% of people say testimonial videos are effective because they help visualise how a product or service actually works another study from WyzowlSo if we know testimonials are so powerful, we do so many companies struggle to get them? We see certain companies doing really well, they flood TrustPilot and Google Reviews all the time, whereas others, especially smaller groups, startups, solopreneurs, coaches, really miss the mark here. Simply put, two reasons:First, you don't have a process in place to ask for them.Second, you don't have know how to use them once you get them.Follow Don online at https://accountabilitynow.subscribemenow.com/Please subscribe to The Morning Jolt Podcast at: Apple: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/the-morning-jolt-podcast/id1511514689 Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/show/0Rqxjrxz9KccnTeZzkIXXB?si=IbYYXGAmRTeCmDs2JcNzXDon Markland is the CEO and owner of Accountability Now™, an Executive Coaching and Business Strategy company out of Jacksonville, Florida. Learn how to turn Millennials into engaged, motivated employees! Want to understand Millennials better? Or at all? Listen to my podcast with Chris Tuff. His new book, “The Millennial Whisperer,” is a practical how-to guide which shows those of us who work with or manage this demographic (between 25 and 39 years old) how to better understand them—the world’s largest generation—so we can turn the negative stereotypes (selfish, spoiled, self-absorbed) into great employees and highly motivated people. Great stuff we all need to know. Millennials need a purpose They want acknowledgement. Their idea of profit is way beyond just a salary or even a bonus. They want social capital and to know that they are making a difference. But they also need structured environments that enable them to have autonomy. All of this might sound like an impossibility, but Chris Tuff has taken it on, conquered it and wants to help you do it as well. In 2019, this group represents almost 50% of the workforce As Baby Boomers retire, it's going to be a Millennial workforce until Gen Z’s join them (between 4 and 24 years old) not too far from now. This means that it's time to change our ways of managing people, of all ages. We have no choice. Given this new reality, how do hiring managers find the right talent to fit their organizations' culture and staffing needs? How do they keep that talent engaged and successful? What role does social media play in this Millennial generation’s lifestyle, and what does that mean for you? Everything about today's workforce is changing, and fast. We, and Chris Tuff, urge you to take a look at your culture and if needed, make some changes, fast. This podcast is a first step.  About Chris Tuff Chris Tuff became the youngest partner in the 100-year history of the Atlanta-based advertising agency, 22squared, where he turned a team of Millennials into a major profit center in an impressively short amount of time. As one of the first marketers to focus on helping startups connect with Fortune 100 brands, including Facebook in 2005, Chris is obsessed with emerging trends in marketing. Currently EVP, Director of Content Marketing and Partnerships at 22squared, he is responsible for partnership development with tech and media companies such as Twitter, Google and Facebook. Previously, Chris worked with several Fortune 500 companies to help improve recruiting and performance of Millennial workers. We like alliteration. Can you tell? Now that we've wrapped up our Unlock the Mystery series, which pulled back the curtain on how bloggers and influencers make their money, we're kicking off a new set of themed episodes! Candid Conversations continues to be a behind the scenes look at online businesses, but this series will dive into the questions we most frequently see asked (or those we are asked ourselves) when it comes to influencer marketing. Inspired by a session Jamie recently attended at the Social Fresh social marketing conference, this week we're covering keeping your content creative. Producing content that's fresh and engaging on a regular basis is challenging. Factor in that you want what you're producing to be sustainable and authentic— to be interesting to you personally, reflecting your mission and values without becoming repetitive— while also meeting your audience's particular needs, and it's easy to see how influencers and brands alike can struggle to find new angles and avoid burnout. In this episode, we talk about some of the questions raised at that Social Fresh session, as well as our own struggles creating content for our podcast and tips we've picked up along the way. Listen in as we discuss: being intentional and strategic with your content getting ahead of your calendar by having a content plan in place staying creative without a large budget the importance of taking risks taking advantage of breaks incorporating humor and more, including a little confession from Danielle. How do you keep your content creative? Bounce on over to Businessese HQ: we'd love to hear your tips. We've crossed paths in Florida many times missing each other by a few hours here and there or realizing after, "Hey, you were there?" In December last year we actually came face to face at Social Fresh that was held at Full Sail University. Casie is part of the Cisco Systems family working with the team dedicated to telling Cisco’s employees story through social media, specifically, Instagram, Twitter and  . Casie comes from a family of police and has first responder blood also having ties to the fire department as well. Like anyone with that kind of bloodline, you know giving and caring are two traits that come naturally to her. Her Dad was with the Port Authority PD for NY/NJ for 21 years.  He worked the '93 WTC Bombing & lost many friends in 9/11 as well.  He has been a "founding" member of Team Live Out Loud (dedicated to Casie’s sister, Kellie's Memory). He’s gone bald for St. Baldricks’s many times and this year will be an extra special year as Casie is going bald for St. Baldrick’s as well…. And this is a great story. Casie is getting married on March 22, 2018 and just two days later she is shaving her head for St. Baldrick’s! Now that’s commitment to a cause and you’ll understand that more when you listen to Casie tell the story how here involvement on a personal level came to be. The St. Baldrick’s Foundation doesn't just look to help any cancer...it is targeting child cancer. Kids that get cancer aren't contracting lifestyle cancer...they are just getting a raw deal on life and could use research dollars and money to help fund treatments specific to their unique needs.  Every day 43 children will be diagnosed with cancer and 1 in 5 will not win the battle. Welcome to episode #528 of Six Pixels Of Separation - The Mirum Podcast. This past week was a tough one for me, and owe Jason Keath a huge apology. I was supposed to be one of the main speakers at his incredible Social Fresh conference (which took place over this weekend in Orlando, Florida). I had a sudden and scary medical issue come up that precluded me from travel, and I had to cancel on him (and another event, out in Los Angeles). It's a terrible feeling knowing that you are letting someone down. That is only made worse, when it's someone as kind as Jason. Thankfully, Sally Hogshead came to our rescue (thanks, Sally... you're the best!), but still... it sucks. Jason works hard as the founder and CEO of Social Fresh Conference. Welcome to episode #436 of Six Pixels Of Separation - The Twist Image Podcast. How well do marketers truly perform when it comes to social media? It's a question that Jason Keath not only speaks and consults about, but he also gathers very serious marketers to attend his well-known Social Fresh events. At last year's Inbound event in Boston (led by HubSpot), we both gave presentations and realized that we had been following one another for years, but had never really connected in our protein forms. With that, we also decided to do a show like this, where we could talk about the challenges that brands face when it comes to social media and how to best educate and arm them for success. Enjoy the conversation... Here it is: Six Pixels Of Separation - The Twist Image Podcast - Episode #436 - Host: Mitch Joel. Running time: 47:45.
