Today, Toni is joined by Mindy Gibbins-Klein, an expert in developing authors and thought leaders. Over the past 20 years, Mindy has trained and coached 1000s in 18 countries and published 14 books that teach how to lead with both head and heart. Mindy explains what a thought leader is and how to become one. She also shares how to use the written word and language to get back in touch with who you are so that you can make progress and help more people. KEY TAKEAWAYS Put your best ideas out there then let people decide for themselves whether you are a thought leader or not. Don´t just publish anything. It has to be good, and you have to write it yourself. Consuming too much of other people´s content clouds your mind and dilutes your ideas. Mindfulness, journalling, and affirmations are powerful, but you have to do them in the right way. Mindy shares how. Spend time reflecting with intention. Every day, pause, ask yourself what went well, and what went wrong, and decide what to work on tomorrow. Writing is powerful. It helps you as well as others. Find good female mentors. You will need several mentors throughout your life. Become a giver. BEST MOMENTS “Dig deep for your expertise and showcase that, and then you'll be known as an expert with proper substance. “ “Part of my work is about helping people get back to themselves.“ “Reflect with intention.“ “Journal these things out but make true statements.” EPISODE RESOURCES https://giving1percent.com/ https://mindygk.com https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B5W2AGg2nMo ABOUT MINDY Mindy Gibbins-Klein is an international speaker, coach, and author of 14 books, with her clients publishing over 1,000 titles. Are you a 1% giver? How much of your income goes towards charitable giving and how much time do you spend on self-reflection? Having sold her publishing company, speaker, author and multi-award-winning entrepreneur Mindy Gibbins-Klein found herself blessed with more time to reflect on what really mattered to her. In 2020, Mindy recognised that whilst her income had gone up, her charitable giving had not kept up. She suspected she was not alone and so created a way for others to be more mindful of how they could support charities through thoughtful giving. In this episode of ICommunicate, Mark Altman is joined by Ben Brearley, a Leadership Coach, Trainer, and Consultant with over 15 years of leadership experience. They discuss what it means to be a thoughtful leader, in addition to the challenges that may impede long lasting influence and change. Segment 1: When can a leader be certain that they've made a lasting, positive impact on the person that they're coaching? Why is it so essential that coaches avoid using the righting reflex when problem solving with a colleague? Segment 2: It's one thing to consider ourselves a thoughtful leader, but another to embody what that actually means. What does it mean to be a thoughtful leader? What does a “thoughtful” conversation look like between a leader and their team, and how can it lead to necessary reform in company culture? Segment 3: There's a huge difference between “communicating” and “communicating with intent” that not all leaders recognize. Where does the motivation to continue learning come from, and how do we fuel other people? What are some leadership tools that we may be overlooking? Segment 4: It's inevitable that leaders will find themselves in positions that no toolkit can fully prepare them for. In those moments, how can we adapt and find new solutions on our own? What is the tall poppy syndrome, and how can it affect the morale and performance of your team?

A good leader sets the tone for an organization. Without good leadership, employees won't know the right direction to take or what they can improve upon. While men and women may generally have different needs and motivations, the qualities that make a good leader are the same for both. What is also important and needed for all leaders to succeed is to continuously seek out next level mentors with fresh perspective so they don't get caught up in their own echo chamber and get left behind. Dr. Annalisa Jenkins, M.B.B.S., F.R.C.P. is a biopharma thought leader and a board member for several growing companies. She shares with us her experiences, from the British military to the boardroom, and what it's been like to work in this age of life science innovation and digital advances. Coming from a generation where male mentors were common, Dr. Jenkins speaks about working as a woman in her industry and how she's learned to be a “tough but fair” leader under their direction. Her broad array of experiences in health sciences shows us how to bring vision to our workplace as leaders. Ben has led, mentored and coached leaders and team members at a wide variety of organisations in industries including Healthcare, Government, Utilities, Technology, Resources and Construction. After working in leadership roles for over 15 years, Ben realised his passion lay in helping other leaders build confidence and be more effective, and now he spends his time consulting and coaching through his business, Thoughtful Leader. "One of the common problems that I come across often is that "there is no accountability" in many of our workplaces. This generally means that there is a perception that people aren't taking ownership of their work, and nothing happens when work isn't done on time, or to the right standard. Lack of accountability can damage the motivation of people working within a business, and when leaders don't hold people accountable (or are unsure how to) it can cause issues with team and workplace culture, which has a knock-on negative impact on productivity. When businesses (and the leaders within them) are able to hold their people accountable, people feel more engaged, start to take ownership to step up and deliver. When done well, this can also have a dramatic effect on building the experience and confidence of team members, as they start to take ownership for their work and build their reputation as being a leader in their area. Ben Brearley is a leadership coach, MBA and consultant who helps thoughtful leaders build confidence and find the right balance they need in their leadership to be more effective."
