KNOW GOOD MUSIC Interviews LAURIE KAYE Laurie wrote a great book called "CONFESSIONS OF A ROCK N' ROLL NAME DROPPER : My life leading up to John Lennon's Last Interview. We talk to Laurie about her career in radio with the RKO NETWORK (KFRC) in the 7o's and some of the people she interviewed like David Bowie, Mick Jagger, George Harrison and of course, John Lennon who she interviewed on Dec 8th, 1980 at the Dakota hours before he was murdered. Her book is a great look into the 70s and how she got to experience some great concerts and encounters with Rock Legends first hand. Matt and Rob read the book and loved it! Loved how Laurie incorperated the dialogue from her interviews into the book (the audio version has excerpts from the actual interviews) ***** ABOUT THE BOOK and LAURIE Rock reporter Laurie Kaye interviewed John Lennon just hours before he was murdered in 1980 outside New York's famous Dakota apartments and even ran into his assassin (whom she refuses to cite by name) on the street outside, and here she recounts the story of that fateful night, the centerpiece of this memoir about the life of a SoCal girl with a troubled childhood who got to live out her dream by interviewing many of the most famous rock stars of the time. Name dropping? Well, they say it ain't bragging if you really did it and Laurie Kaye has really done it. These stories about so many culturally important people are exciting and illuminating. On December 8, 1980, twenty-something rock journalist Laurie Kaye entered the legendary Dakota apartments on Manhattan's Upper West Side to co-conduct an interview with her longtime idol, John Lennon. It was the last interview Lennon would ever give—just hours later, outside that same building, Lennon was shot dead by a twenty-five-year-old man (whom Kaye refuses to refer to by name) whom Kaye herself had encountered after finishing the interview and stepping outside onto the street. Kaye has beaten herself up ever since over her failure to recognize that the assassin—who blocked her path and harassed her with questions like “Did you talk to him?” “Did you get his autograph?”—posed a danger and should have been reported. Now, as we approach the forty-fifth anniversary of Lennon's death, Kaye reflects how she rose from teen runaway from a dysfunctional family to expatriate studying Balinese dancing in Indonesia to journalist, writer, and producer with credits including RKO Presents The Beatles/The Beatles from Liverpool to Legend (at the tender age of twenty-one) and the Lord of the Rings DVD release, plus interviews with such titans of the music industry as Paul McCartney, George Harrison, Talking Heads, The Ramones, David Bowie, and Mick Jagger, whom she put on hold so that he could listen to her newscast before getting down to business. But it was the day she shared a loveseat with John Lennon and watched him push his iconic granny glasses down the length of his nose and smile at her in agreement that remains indelibly etched in her mind—both the best and worst day of her life. Laurie Kaye began her career in radio at KFRC-AM San Francisco, for years one of the nation's greatest top 40 stations, where she started as an intern and worked her way up to on-air reporter and anchor. She wrote and coproduced numerous radio rock specials for RKO, including RKO Presents the Beatles (later expanded and retitled as The Beatles from Liverpool to Legend), and The Top 100 of the 70's before moving on to write Dick Clark's weekly radio countdown show and syndicated newspaper column. Kaye then moved on to television and film as a writer, producer, and casting director. Tonight live, The Outer Realm welcomes Charles Lear. Charles will be discussing his new book "Flying Saucer Investigators" ABOUT THE BOOK: "The Flying Saucer Investigators" is a book of history. It's about the people involved in the mystery of the flying saucers, mostly the investigators, but also the witnesses, some of whom were profoundly affected. The period covered is what has been called "The Golden Age of Flying Saucers," which begins in 1947, after the sighting that year by businessman pilot Kenneth Arnold, and ends in 1969, with the termination of the U.S. Air Force's investigation, which existed for most of its duration as "Project Blue Book."The investigators ranged from kids with saucer clubs to serious-minded individuals with connections in government. There were military personnel assigned to take flying saucer reports and follow up on them, and the U.S. Congress was moved to hear arguments for a federally funded study of flying saucers on two occasions. The history of this "Golden Age" is presented using newsletters, magazines, case files, official documents, newspaper articles, film footage, and archived recordings from television and radio. Some of the cases the investigators looked into are presented using nothing but the facts as they were recorded, without speculation or sensationalism, and even the die-hard skeptic may be left wondering by many of them. The Author: Charles Lear has many interests, of which UFOs take up more than a little of his time. His main interests in the UFO subject are in the documented history the phenomenon has spawned and the people who investigate it, as this book reflects. Charles' other interests are geology and paleontology and his familiarity with science and its disciplines informs his approach to the UFO subject. Having lived most of his life in New York City, where he made his living as a union stagehand and was involved in other aspects of theatre as a playwright, producer, director and Shakespearean actor, Charles now resides in New York, USA. How The Owner Of A 150-Person Law Firm Still Has Time For His Family In this week's episode, I had the pleasure of speaking with Mike Morse, the founder of Mike Morse Law Firm, the largest personal injury law firm in Michigan. He was recently named a #1 Amazon Best-selling author for his book Fireproof and hosts a weekly podcast, Open Mike, where he shares advice on the law and brings important legal topics to the forefront. It is possible to find relief for hot flashes and menstrual cramps by making simple changes to your diet. On this episode of The Exam Room Podcast, two women who were pushed to the limit share how they were able to overcome severe hot flashes and unbearable menstrual cramping with food. Plus, “The Weight Loss Champion” Chuck Carroll is joined by Dr. Neal Barnard who explains why certain foods can trigger these conditions and how the hormones that cause them can be tamed at the dinner table. Ann Friday felt like a prisoner in her heavily layered police uniform when hot flashes would strike. Underneath layers of clothing and a thick bullet proof vest she roasted as the sweltering heat became trapped on her body with no way of escape. She would lose sleep as hot flashes indiscriminately flared up in the middle of the night. The rude awakening jeopardized her focus on the street, presenting a potentially dangerous situation. Having tried everything, she finally found a way to cool off and calm the hot flashes by making one big change. Lindsay Nixon would be doubled over in crippling pain every month when. The cramps were so severe that she was unable to leave her home. Often she begged her roommate to stand on her belly or would fold herself over the back of the couch thinking that the pressure would bring relief. She also began taking prescription pain killers and considered having a hysterectomy at a young age. The decision would have taken away her ability to have children, but all she could think about was putting an end to her agony. Finally, she found that food was the answer. Today she is living pain free and famously known as The Happy Herbivore. Lindsay also created the recipes from Dr. Barnard's book Your Body In Balance! The connection between thyroid health and diet is becoming increasingly clear. Most book descriptions suck! Why? Because authors and not marketers are writing them.
