I am so excited for this episode with none other, Garrett Salpeter, founder of Neufit and soon to be best-selling author of The Neufit Method: Unleash The Power of the Nervous System For Faster Healing & Optimize Performance. Garrett has been one my many mentors in the health world who has really influenced my understanding of chronic pain and how the brain and body interact and interpret pain. I first met Garrett back in 2017 at the Bulletproof Conference, and was able to get treated by the Neubie, Garrett's FDA approved electric stimulation machine. I was experiencing chronic shoulder pain from an old injury, and with only 15 mins of electric stimulation, I showed huge improvements in strength and range of motion. In 2019, I embarked on the journey to become a Neufit practitioner myself, and went through three days of training in Austin, Texas under the tutelage of Garrett and his team. One of the huge takeaways I hope people walk away from this episode is how important and critical the nervous system is when we think about pain. Garrett lays all of this out in his new book and includes tons of examples of people healing from chronic pain, pre/post surgery, and neurological disorders such as strokes and multiple sclerosis (MS). Garrett has worked with athletes such as Trent Dilfer who recovered from injuries 50% faster using some of the concepts Garrett talks about from the Neufit method and the Neubie machine. The Neubie machine is probably one of the best biohacks I've ever experienced in terms of rehab. There's so many modalities you can do with the machine: re-balance the vestibular system (balance system), induce hypertrophy (building muscle), re-myelinate nerves, frequency specific micro current (FSM), and much more.Timeline2:20 - How Amy went from paralyzed and in a wheelchair to walking using the Neufit Method9:02 - How Garrett got started with electric stim therapy12:15 - Difference between AC and DC current and what makes DC current so unique18:27 - How the Neubie helps with chronic pain26:44 - What to expect during a Neufit session31:10 - An example how Neufit helps pre/post surgery39:12 - How Neufit has helped people with multiple sclerosis recover48:30 - How the Neubie resets/restores breathing and lowers HRV 58:27 - Why the Neubie so effective at hypertrophy and building strength

This week's episode I had the pleasure of interviewing and speaking with Todd White, who is the founder of Dry Farm Wines. I had heard of Dry Farm Wines for years now, after attending the Bulletproof Conference in 2016 and being exposed to these natural wines. Up until then, I had never heard of biodynamic natural wines and their health benefits. All I knew was they were better for you and I have to say they tasted really good. Since then I've made it a point to try and buy biodynamic organic wines, and in the last six months I've switched to nothing but Dry Farm Wines. So what makes Dry Farm Wines so special? Honestly, after the interview with Todd, I discovered it's not only what they put in the wine that makes them special, it's what they don't put in the wine! The wine industry is not required to put labels on their bottles, and therefore, there's a huge lack of transparency. Especially, since I learned that most wines use up to 70+ additives! That's not even including the toxic herbicides and pesticides and other cancer causing toxins such as Glyphosate that are being sprayed on the crops. Additives such as “Mega Purple”, a commercial coloring agent concentrate that is produced and sold by Constellation (the 3rd largest wine producer in the world), is a commonly used additive in winemaking that enhances the fruit flavor of a wine and adds a deeper color. It's estimated that 10,000 gallons are sold every year, and added to about 25 million bottles of wine. It's used in a majority of low and moderately priced wines, but can also be used to touch up expensive premium wines. Almost every red wine under $15 has "Mega Purple" in itThe Dry Farm Wines DifferenceStatistically Sugar Free. Every wine is fermented completely dry, with less than 0.15 grams per 5oz glass. This includes rosé, sparkling, and white wine. Lower Alcohol. With the national alcohol average nearing 15%, our wines never surpass 12.5% alc/vol, with some as low as 7%. Lower Sulfites. Our wines average a very low 39 parts per million. In the US, by law sulfites are allowed in amounts up to 350 parts per million (ppm) in wine.No Additives. While commercial wine companies may use up to 70+ FDA-approved additives, including thickeners and dyes, to create a shelf stable product. All Native Yeast. Meet Todd White, of Dry Farm Wines. We had a fascinating conversation about the wine industry and how larger companies are  buying out small companies in the USA and other countries. Wine is not what it used to be. The large companies are still masquerading as smaller companies but the quality of the wine has gone down, win are buying created in large factories and the percentage of alcohol has increased to created a stronger wine for the general public. This has taken away from not only the taste and quality but the health aspects of wine.  We both discuss our bad side effects from drinking commercial wines and how if feels like drinking poison. Todd created his company because of this and he wanted to create a way for health minded people who were really watching their sugar and alcohol intake to still be able to enjoy drinking wine.  By doing his due diligence and sourcing unique vineyards in Europe where they still care about the quality of the wine, he was able to start bottling some really unique and delicious healthy wines. He sources from  small farms in places like Italy where farms are family owned and run.  Daily practice of fasting all day and eating only one meal at night while also enjoying a bottle of wine. This practice of fasting for 22 hours a day has helped Todd to become lean and sharp-minded while running his company. He has been practicing his fasting methods for 4 ½ years and has been able to stay in ketosis this way. It took him about a month to adapt to eat this way. Now he doesn't need to eat during the day and is not hungry.  Willpower doesn't work and how you need to have a routine that you can stick to. To create a lifestyle of eating well on a Ketogenic diet and pay attention to how food affects you. Only then can you create eating as part of a healthy lifestyle instead of a diet or eating to sedate your thinking mind. Meditation and how doing even just 20 minutes a day minimum can help you have a happier life and can also help you stick to what's important to you in life. It can help you to  avoid using foods, drugs and alcohol and movies as escapism. Sometimes we check out because the trauma of thought is too stressful. That's why meditation  is so popular now, it's because it works. Cold Therapy: One of Todds practices daily is a freezing cold shower to start his day. He feels this creates a huge amount of energy for his workouts and for his day and he feels euphoric when he does it. It's not for bathing,  that comes later, it's just for jump starting his body. He practices the Wim Hof method of breathing which is a deep breathing and breath holding technique which can help boost the immune system and help to  withstand the cold temperatures much better. Cold exposure scientific studies show that it increases brown fat in your body which burns more calories and the studies showed an 80% increase in the metabolic fat burning rate. Mice who were exposed to cold therapy ate more than their counterparts and weighed less. It is also great for reducing inflammation in the body. Whether it's an injured limb or just overall chronic inflammation, cold baths and showers can help! Try starting with just 1 minute in cold water a day and increase your time to get up to 5 minutes. Ice baths same thing.  Wim Hof breathing  was mentioned, here is his information: https://www.wimhofmethod.com/ Fasting-. Todd has done extended fasting for 3-5 days at a time and is now interested in trying the fasting mimicking diet by adding bone broth to his diet. He has really good success with all kinds of fasting but believes that 3-5 days of a water fast can impart huge benefits.  More info about fasting: https://purejoyplanet.com/?s=fasting Training- Todd likes to exercise between 30-50 minutes for the benefits it has on his overall mental wellness. However when he doesn't have time, he loves the 10 minute high intensity interval training. He says he really benefits from those as well. You can even just go find a hill somewhere if you are traveling and sprint up then jog back down. Or use the gym at the hotel and do the treadmill on a high incline setting for similar results.   For the 1 cent bottle of wine go to http://dryfarmwines.com/purejoy Social: https://www.instagram.com/dryfarmwines/   Todd White Dry Farm Wines Founder | Health Evangelist todd@dryfarmwines.com (m)707-968-9700 (o) 707-944-1500 skype: dryfarmwines All social media: dryfarmwines   Todd has been serial entrepreneur and creator since he was age 17.   Today, after 15 years in the wine business his life is dedicated to educating and helping people make better choices about food, nutrition, and how they think about consuming alcohol. Is the first person to live to 1,000-years-old, alive today? And if that's true, what does that inevitably mean for the future of the human condition? One of the world's leading anti-aging researchers, Aubrey De Grey, (and strangely—my neighbor) believes that to be 100% true. Because, well, Aubrey's the one who said it. And if what Aubrey says is true, would you then believe Arthur C. Clarke's third law, which states: Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic? Meaning that modern technology can seem like literal witchcraft to the ignorant, or simple science to the learned.  Popular mystery writer, Agatha Christie, once wrote, "The supernatural is only the natural of which the laws are not yet understood."  And I agree. However... Are we metaphorically "summoning the demon," as tech mogul Elon Musk fears? The Guardian published an article on former vice-president of user growth for Facebook—one you may have read or, at the very least, heard about in November of 2017. The former executive said that he feels "tremendous guilt" over his work on “tools that are ripping apart the social fabric of how society works.” Chamath Palihapitiya said, "This is not about Russian ads.” “This is a global problem. It is eroding the core foundations of how people behave by and between each other.”   Historian and novelist Ronald Wright popularized what is called a progress trap. The exact definition of a progress trap is as follows:  The condition human societies experience when, in pursuing progress through human ingenuity, they inadvertently introduce problems they do not have the resources or political will to solve, for fear of short-term losses in status, stability or quality of life. Many of the problems we're seeing now–whether we're talking about hunger or massive inequity–whether we're talking about climate change or the loss of biodiversity–have been driven over the last 250 years by a system of overproduction and overconsumption of stuff.  You've probably heard Einstein's famous quote, "I fear the day that technology will surpass our human interaction. The world will have a generation of idiots." This quote, although popular on the Internet, is false. Einstein did say, however, "I believe that the abominable deterioration of ethical standards stems primarily from the mechanization and depersonalization of our lives,” he wrote in a letter to his friend, psychiatrist Otto Juliusburger, in 1948, “a disastrous byproduct of science and technology. Nostra culpa!" And In many ways science and technology have become the new religion of our time. Karl Marx described religion as an opiate to the masses because it dulled the senses and kept people passive and accepting of a capitalist, industrialist culture warped on the idea of consumption and growth. Freud, the father of modern psychology, argued that religion served to repress and sublimate an individual's desire into activities that serve the culture. This, Freud argued, produces neurosis and mental illness in those that civilization seeks to domesticate. And so if we imagine technology as a drug, where its purpose is to manage pain and create sensations of calm and well-being, do we not forget that we are apart of the natural world, fighting for survival, just like everything else? In many ways technology works much like religion, distracting us from our inevitable deaths with feelings of fleeting invincibility and immortality.  (I'd like to thank my friend Julian Langer for that connection between technology and religion.) Anyways, guys! This is part 2 of 2 of Privilege, Identity Politics, and the Transhuman Agenda with Daniel Vitalis. All-in-all, this was a challenging conversation to navigate for both Daniel and myself, so please keep an open mind, ear, and heart. So... In today's episode, you'll learn... The three mishmashed values (—and science) that Daniel says he approaches the world with, Daniel's personal relationship with modern technology, Daniel's thoughts on merit, identity politics, and the transhuman agenda (i.e. "the cult of progress"), and... Much, much more. Episode Breakdown Daniel says he approaches the world like a mishmash of these three values—and science Sophia the AI robot, identity politics, and the challenge Daniel has with privilege and where it's going Daniel's thoughts on bio and nano technology What Daniel says his religion would be if he were to subscribe to one Why Daniel says people who practice animism today aren't the same as people who practiced animism in the past Are we in an augmented reality? Elon Musk, Space X, and artificial intelligence. Are we summoning the demon? Daniel's personal relationship with modern technology Daniel recalls the first time he saw someone walking down the street talking to themselves (on a hands-free cellular device) Why Daniel feels he's lost some of his intelligence (and what happened to it) Peter Thiel, the Bulletproof Conference, and how Peter (Thiel) sees the future state of humanity's relationship with technology The juxtaposition between The Bulletproof Conference and the 2017 Annual North American Rewilding Conference Daniel's foreboding observation about the Pixar's animated movie Wall-E Are we going into an age of biological denial? Daniel's thoughts on merit, identity politics, and the transhuman agenda (i.e. "the cult of progress") How modern technology, Daniel says, has effected humanity throughout the past few generations James mentions AHR episode #4 with Arthur Haines and the allegory of the cave How Daniel talks about his work What Daniel says is the theme of today's episode Why you won't hear Daniel use the word rewilding (...much)

Luke Storey joins me in an episode that is a fascinating combination of biohacking and spirituality. We’ll talk about both extreme higher-level consciousness topics as well as extreme self-experimentation. Because we are fundamentally unable to access ultimate truth, we shouldn’t think of our beliefs as true or false. Rather, we should view our beliefs as either empowering or disempowering. Choosing empowering beliefs leads to an empowered life! This is one of my favorite episodes, and I think it’ll be one of your favorites too! Find Out More About Luke Here: Luke Storey @MrLukeStorey on Twitter Luke Storey on Instagram Luke Storey on YouTube @MrLukeStorey on Facebook Luke Storey on LinkedIn In This Episode: [02:23] - Luke talks about how he and Stephan met, which was by being part of Neil Strauss’ mastermind The Society. Stephan then talks about how he got involved in the group. [07:14] - The weekend at the intensive Luke has been talking about was the catalyst to Luke living what he believes is his true purpose. [11:09] - We hear about Luke’s shift away from fashion, which he did for 17 years. In hindsight, he can’t believe he didn’t quit much sooner. [15:08] - Stephan talks about the importance of getting the right wardrobe and understanding basic fashion principles, using himself as an example of a transformation. [16:33] - Luke isn’t quite sure how to categorize himself or what to call himself, since he works in the health, wellness, and biohacking space but is more deeply invested in the inner work of spiritual growth and learning spiritual principles. [20:16] - Luke still does some consulting in terms of personal style. [22:32] - We learn that Stephan had a moment of realization at a Tony Robbins event when he participated in the fire walk. [25:52] - Luke responds to the way Stephan has been framing a particular concept. He likes the idea of keeping most of one’s attention in the stillness and present moment, while staying a little bit grounded. [27:59] - Stephan recommends setting aside the desire to seek the Truth, and instead focusing on what is empowering (rather than disempowering). He and Luke then talk about the benefit of going for what yields results. [31:04] - Luke discusses the polarization of the world and our culture. He also points out the importance of being able to admit it and adjust when you’ve been wrong about something. [34:41] - Stephan responds to Luke’s points with a quote from Dan Sullivan. [36:00] - Recently, Luke listened to Jack Canfield on Oprah’s podcast. He shares his thoughts on Jack Canfield, including his brief thought of wondering why Jack still works so hard when he must be very financially well-off. [39:36] - After having talked about recycling, Luke points out that he feels guilty about not having a good system for recycling used electronics and batteries. [40:44] - Stephan shares a story that Tony Robbins tells about deciding who was going to pay for a meal. [43:08] - Luke doesn’t know a lot about Kabbalah, but was very struck by the book Becoming Like God by Michael Berg. [46:29] - For the last part of the episode, we move onto the topic of biohacking. Luke digs into the topic of EMFs and offers advice on how to minimize your exposure. [51:48] - Stephan started taking EMFs seriously at the recent Bulletproof Conference after he saw how dedicated Dr. Mercola is to avoiding them. [52:48] - Luke shares more of his thoughts on EMFs, including that in this age you’ll inevitably be exposed to some of them. He also describes more habits he’s changed to minimize his exposure. Find Out More About Pamela Here: Make Your Success Real Pamela Bruner Music Pamela Bruner on Facebook Pamela Bruner on LinkedIn Real Social Media Success In This Episode: [03:09] - Pamela started creating models to explain business growth, and shares one thing that cuts across all levels of business. [05:15] - What are the most common mindset blocks or limitations that Pamela comes across? In her answer, she talks about the four limiting stories that all of us have in some combination. [09:17] - Pamela discusses a coping mechanism that she had in response to feeling that she wasn’t lovable. [10:27] - Stephan’s limiting story is the “not good enough” story, he explains, and digs into how this has been the case for him. [12:34] - What does Pamela think Stephan’s coping mechanism would be in his situation? She turns the question around, encouraging him to explore the answer to this himself. [17:02] - Pamela moves into discussing what you should do about your limiting stories and the resulting coping mechanisms once you recognize them. [20:25] - What Pamela has been saying reminds Stephan of one of Byron Katie’s four questions, which is, “what would life be like if this thought didn’t exist?” [22:10] - Pamela uses her business as an example of moving beyond one’s limiting story and the resulting coping mechanisms. Stephan then connects Pamela’s strategy to a Kabbalah concept. [25:27] - Another coping mechanism that Pamela sees is hard work. She then points out that whatever comes up when you’re tired or low on resources is probably part of your coping strategy. [27:48] - Pamela shares a way to have a conversation with the critical little voice inside and transform it into something more useful. [30:54] - Stephan heard a similar analogy a few weeks ago at the Bulletproof Conference. [33:42] - We learn that Stephan is also a fan of EFT through a story he shares about his experiences in being able to do things that he had previously been terrified of. [36:13] - How did Pamela end up getting a book deal with Jack Canfield? [39:11] - Pamela discusses the fact that she did most of the writing on the book she co-wrote with Jack Canfield, and reveals that she enjoyed collaborating with him. [39:55] - Pamela talks about her journey from $375 a month to a million dollars in less than three years. [42:57] - We hear about Pamela’s experience with joint venture partners. [43:55] - How often does Pamela tap, and is she doing her own tapping or working with a coach? [44:57] - Pamela has a short video series called Tapping to Double Your Income, which you can find at this link! [45:53] - Are there any other contributors to success that Pamela wants to share with listeners? [48:22] - Stephan offers Pamela the opportunity to list any specific tools that she has found to be helpful. Photobiomodulation is the scientific term for light hacking. PBM for short, photobiomodulation extends beyond avoid blue light after dark. Volumes of scientific literature show that red and infrared light therapy improve cellular health, leading to a long list of health benefits - including wound healing, tissue repair, muscle recovery, skin clarification and more. I caught up with Scott Nelson and Justin Strahan of Joovv at the Bulletproof Conference to explore the science behind these benefits of red and near infrared light therapy, along with everything else we need to know about red light and PBM. In this episode of the OPP, we cover: Science of how light improves cellular function Specific wavelengths to use (and to avoid) The importance of intensity and irradiation when choosing a red light device Why saunas and red light are not the same thing And much more... If you're interested in, or currently using red lights, this is must listen episode of the OPP.

I'm back from LA now. What a trip. The Bulletproof Conference was a chance to reconnect with friends and meet some new ones too.  Many of the recommendations at the conference are pretty much the complete opposite of what we are taught growing up about wellness. It can seem overwhelming. Butter is okay, nicotine’s okay too (but certainly not smoking), and so on. But many other hacks seem to be a mixture of the futuristic and the primal. As well as eating plenty of veggies, most of those gathered in LA are big fans of meditation and getting some natural sunlight in the morning. Hardly anything particularly revolutionary about that. Light is a drug - eh? Light is a big theme at the conference. Some speakers talk about how light affects your brain like a drug. Experts and exhibitors alike look at adapting your environment so that the lights help you to perform at your best, especially if you live somewhere cold, damp and grey, (sound familiar?). As well as our dearth of natural sunlight in a northern hemisphere winter, some of our offices and devices apparently emit five times more blue light than daylight, which really messes with our sleep and circadian rhythms. Today I'm with Scott Nelson, a man who knows all about light, and in fact has invented a device that is rather cool. And man, it's bright! Check out the podcast for more, and Scott's website here.

During the Functional Training Summit in Munich, I had the opportunity to check in once again with the mobility coach and physical therapist Kelly Starrett. I first met Kelly at the Bulletproof Conference a couple of years ago and ever since, I've seen him at multiple occasions and also had the opportunity to work out in his crossfit box in San Francisco right underneath the Golden Gate bridge. Dr. Kelly Starrett is one of the most influential coaches in the areas of mobility and functional fitness working with olympians, world-class athletes, the military and high performers from various different fields. In this episode, Kelly and I discuss the status of the German fitness scene, which routines he has on a plane, how he hacks his sleep in hotel rooms and which valuable advice he received from professional surfer Laird Hamilton. Enjoy! Show Notes 01:00 - Kelly's favorite German words 02:15 - Why Kelly loves German bread 03:45 - On the development of the German fitness scene 09:30 - Why the young generation of athletes is better equipped 12:30 - Kelly's methods for healthier traveling 17:30 - How many hours do athletes need to sleep 20:30 - Why Kelly loves the ice Quotes: If you are buying bread that's someone Oma made, that's food, that's fermented, that's beautiful. There is a generation of kids who've grown up power cleaning and swinging kettlebells. We are not designed to get on an airplane and fly somewhere. When I get off the plane, I don't to go to the gym, I walk. That beer is gonna mess up your sleep. Our recommendation for athletes is 9 to 10 hours of sleep. No phones in the bedroom.

Our guest today, Tom Butler, is the VP and partner at LiveO2, an oxygen training system. As you’ll learn during this conversation, super oxygenation is important not only for workouts, but also for our overall health. Tom is the founder of the Whole Health Network. He began his career as a biochemist in pharmaceutical development, and he achieved the status of senior scientist at the impressively early age of 25. This combination of resources gives him brilliant insight into health, as you’ll hear in our conversation. Find Out More About Tom Here: Tom Butler on LinkedInLiveO2.com In This Episode: [03:09] - What is super oxygenation, and why should we care? [04:42] - Stephan points out that vascular inflammation is linked to heart disease, cancer, and more, so super oxygenation is about more than just a better workout. Tom elaborates on this. [08:33] - Tom talks about Chinese medicine and its views of not only the movement of energy in the body, but also the blood. He mentions blood stasis, or blood stagnation. [10:30] - We learn about the risk of inadequate oxygenation in parts of our bodies. [13:18] - Stephan describes his first experience using Tom’s device at the Bulletproof Conference, where Kristen Lohneiss told him her story. [14:15] - Kristen shares her own story, involving a traumatic brain injury due to a drunk driver. We hear how much of a difference the LiveO2 system has made for her. [19:51] - Super oxygenation can bring someone from near death back to health, Tom explains. He also talks about “pushing up against” injuries, or returning blood flow in a way that breaks through healing barriers. [24:57] - Tom describes the LiveO2 system, which involves controlling the airflow that someone is breathing with varying amounts of oxygen. [28:31] - How do you know if LiveO2 is successfully cleaning out someone’s system? Fascinatingly, skin and breath smells are part of the answer. [30:09] - Heavy metals take a little more work to get rid of than the other pollutants in our bodies, Tom explains. [32:55] - Stephan is learning about a Kabbalah principle that if you receive something without earning it, it comes with side effects. He applies this to what Tom has been saying about LiveO2. [34:36] - Tom talks about pulse oximetry, and discusses the issue of carbon monoxide. [37:42] - Any finger will do for your pulse oximeter, Tom explains. He then talks about possible asymmetry in oxygenation between the left and right hands. He and Stephan then go on to talk about super oxygenation in stroke victims. [42:10] - Tom gives more details about the actual process that LiveO2 employs. Most first-time participants will stay on the oxygenated air for about eight minutes. [48:39] - How does Tom coach users who aren’t local? [50:51] - If you’re interested in working with a LiveO2 practitioner, go to the LiveO2 website or give them a call. They have an unpublished directory of LiveO2 practitioners and may be able to hook you up with someone near you. [51:23] - Tom talks about the cost of having the LiveO2 system in your own home. [54:40] - We learn more about Mark Squibb, who invented the device, and how he created it. [59:27] - Tom discusses how often people should use LiveO2 technology. [61:50] - To get more information on the LiveO2 system, including getting one for your own home, go to the LiveO2 website. You’re also welcome to give them a call at 970-372-4344. Get Optimized! Once Bulletproof Labs opens in Santa Monica, take a trip there. You’ll be able to try the LiveO2 system among many other things. Read about blood stasis, also known as blood stagnation. It can cause a wide range of health issues, and is more widespread than you might realize. Attend the next Bulletproof Biohacking Conference. We have all heard of “pH,” but do you actually know what it is or how to measure it in your body? In this very special episode of Bulletproof Radio, Steve Fowkes is on the show in part 1 of a two-part series with one of Dave’s mentors and heavy-hitting science experts. Steve’s sophisticated understanding of pH mechanisms of health go far beyond the simplistic "alkalinize, alkalinize, alkalinize" message that most people hear. You’ll discover how to hack your own pH and circadian rhythm and why doing so is essential to increasing your performance. Grab a pen and enjoy. And don’t forget to listen to part 2 later this week!   Steven Wm. Fowkes is an organic chemist by degree and a scientific generalist by nature.  He is author/co-author of six books, five of which are health related, and has published over 100 issues of two health newsletters.  He has been hacking health for four decades in many novel ways, long before self-care and Quantified Self became popular ideas.  One hack was overcoming severe stage fright, which enables Steve to do public speaking engagements (see him at last year's Bulletproof Conference) and TV appearances (including his 15 minutes of fame on Larry King Live). Google him!
