Today's Headlines: Former FBI Director James Comey was indicted yesterday on charges of lying to Congress and obstructing a proceeding, stemming from his 2020 testimony about the Russia probe (it always goes back to Russia). Meanwhile, Trump's new enemy: an escalator at the UN that stopped moving under his feet, which he called “triple sabotage” and demanded arrests over. He also slapped tariffs of up to 50% on furniture and cabinets, claiming a national security threat from foreign vanities. In other news, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth ordered nearly 1,000 generals to convene at Quantico in the largest gathering of top brass since Vietnam, though no one will say why. Disney investors are suing over Kimmel's suspension, alleging political motives, while Democrats are furious that the State Department accidentally leaked unredacted military records of Rep. Mikie Sherrill, including her Social Security number, ahead of her gubernatorial run. In tech news, TikTok is being sold to a billionaire bloc led by Oracle and Rupert Murdoch (what could go wrong?), Amazon agreed to pay $2.5 billion to settle an FTC case over Prime tricks, and the government is begging hundreds of employees fired in Elon's MAGA-GSA purge to come back. Microsoft, for its part, just cut off an Israeli military unit using its AI for Palestinian surveillance. And finally, Trump promised Israel won't annex the West Bank, U.S. jets intercepted Russian bombers near Alaska, and Argentina will be getting a $20B bailout after President Milei and his buddy Elon basically “DOGE'd” the economy into the ground. Bonus Stop: Edzel Ford's home, son of Henry Ford! After touring Greenfield Village I decided I wanted to go to a bonus stop instead of another day at Greenfield Village. I was stunned by the outward aesthetic similarities of the Stan Hywet mansion. My wheels were spinning and memories flooded my mind from all the visits I had going to Stan Hywet from going with my mom to even working there. Railroads The Stan Hywet mansion is located in Akron, OH, my hometown, the “Rubber Capitol of the WORLD”! I shared a lot about the history of Firestone and Goodyear, who used a lot of rubber making tires, in this episode. But on this day of my fieldtrip, I thought about what made Ford so successful? It was making the gasoline engine car affordable for more people, specifically farmers. I gave a little background on Rockefeller and Vanderbilt too to prove my point of “access equals success”. And remember in the other homes the extensive libraries? Access to education and knowledge, right? And you know what made those two successful? The railroads because it provided transportation and access to more products and places. They were able to get their products to more people. And what do you think gave the North the upper hand in the Civil War? The railroads because they could transport supplies. And the other thing that made Ford so successful was his ability to pay his employees a higher pay than other companies. He was making more profit therefore able to pay his employees a higher rate. I couldn't help but to think about Eleanor Ford's role (Edzel's wife) in their home. She lived for 35 years still after Edzel passed. She had a sitting room off of her bedroom upstairs, that she turned into her study. She ran her household manager responsibilities from that study. And although she wasn't fond of the entertainment wing, she knew it was expected of her to entertain. She was very philanthropic and sat on many boards. But she was the queen of productivity. You see she would have multiple board meetings going at one time and then she could just pop in and out as they were being conducted. Genius! Internet Just like railroads were the gateway to transporting goods and people, now Google, Facebook, Apple, and Microsoft transport information. And just like the Goodyears and Rockefellers could get their products to more people, it is the same way I can impact more lives. They have been able to be really successful in a shorter amount of time than before the internet and able to provide better benefits for their employees due to their success. Organize 365® could not be what it is today without the internet. It gets more products to more people. It provides a more level playing field because it is accessible to all. And it has allowed me to learn about business and manufacturing. And because of the internet … we have podcasts! Yet another avenue to learn and/or get your message out. I always like to think of how women made their mark on change in society through their uniqueness. Artificial Intellagance I don't even know what to do with AI! (sigh) As technology advances so too does our ability for everyone to be successful due to a more level playing field for small businesses. Technology, transportation, and information provides access to more education. I wanted to take this series to think about where we have been as women, how it is now as women, and where we are going for women. What change could you have on society by doing what you are uniquely created to do? EPISODE RESOURCES: The Sunday Basket® Sign Up for the Organize 365® Newsletter Did you enjoy this episode? Ever felt like you're hustling so hard that you're slowly burning out—but you keep pushing because that's what entrepreneurs are “supposed” to do?In this episode of the Happy Hustle Podcast, I sit down with Jesse's Fireside Chat, and I share my personal story of burnout, reinvention, and building what I now call The Happy Hustle. We dive into the turning point in my life when I walked away from a high-flying tech startup career in New York City, with big VC backing, partnerships with giants like Microsoft and IBM, and a public exit on the horizon because deep down, I was empty. I was “successful” on paper but completely out of alignment: no sleep, no joy, and relationships falling apart. That decision to say “no” and pivot to a life in harmony was the seed that grew into The Happy Hustle, a bestselling book, top 0.5% podcast, and thriving community that now helps purpose-driven entrepreneurs systematically harmonize ambition and well-being.In this conversation, Jesse and I talk about what it really takes to recognize burnout, the lessons I learned rebuilding my life in Bangkok, and the tools I now share with others through masterminds, events, and the S.O.U.L.M.A.P.P.I.N' system. It's real, raw, and hopefully relatable for anyone who's grinding without fulfillment. Here are a few of the big takeaways you'll hear in this episode:Burnout is a signal, not a badge of honor. Recognizing the stress, anxiety, and overwhelm for what it is can be the first step toward change.Commit to the process, not the stats. I promised myself 200 podcast episodes, no matter who listened and that discipline became the foundation of the show's success.Balance requires intention. The S.O.U.L.M.A.P.P.I.N' framework is my personal operating system for staying aligned.Community is the cure for isolation. Masterminds and retreats aren't just events—they're powerful spaces to be vulnerable, connect, and grow with like-minded entrepreneurs.Good and done beats perfect and never finished. Whether it's publishing a book, launching a business, or making a big pivot, action trumps perfection every time.If you've ever wondered how to build a business without sacrificing your health, relationships, or joy, this episode will hit home. The Defense Department's Cybersecurity Maturity Model Certification (CMMC) effort has uncovered that many contractors are unaware of export control violations, which could lead to significant legal and financial penalties. As the certification becomes mandatory, early assessments indicate common violations of the International Traffic in Arms Regulation and Export Administration Regulations. Contractors are urged to map controlled, unclassified information and review data controls to identify and mitigate these violations before audits occur. This highlights the critical need to integrate export compliance with cybersecurity measures.Meanwhile, Congress is experimenting with Microsoft's AI chatbot, CoPilot, as part of an initiative to incorporate artificial intelligence into legislative operations. This move has sparked concerns among critics regarding the potential risks of misinformation and privacy hazards associated with using experimental technology in governance. Additionally, Congress faces challenges in renewing a vital cyber threat information sharing program, which is set to expire soon, raising alarms about the implications for national cybersecurity efforts. On the cybersecurity front, artificial intelligence is increasingly being exploited by criminal hackers, leading to a new era of sophisticated attacks. Generative AI technologies are being used to craft convincing phishing scams and manipulate everyday tools to execute attacks without triggering security alerts. Recent incidents have demonstrated the effectiveness of these tactics, emphasizing the need for heightened vigilance and advanced security measures to protect against evolving threats. In the realm of technology, companies like Notion, Google, and Zoom are embedding powerful AI features into their platforms, fundamentally changing how users interact with these tools. Notion's new AI agent can autonomously perform tasks, while Google has integrated its Gemini AI into Chrome for enhanced usability and security. Zoom is set to introduce photorealistic AI avatars for meetings, showcasing the rapid adoption of AI in everyday applications. As these tools become the new baseline, IT service providers must adapt by focusing on governance, compliance, and security to ensure that their clients can safely navigate this evolving landscape. What happens when you stop treating HR as a back-office function and start designing it as a competitive advantage?Theresa Cantwell, Strategic HR Consultant and Director at GSD HR Consulting, believes scaling a company shouldn't mean burning out your team—or yourself. With nearly two decades leading people strategy at companies like Microsoft, ThoughtWorks, and Equal Experts, Theresa has helped organizations across Europe and Asia grow not just fast, but gracefully. In this episode, we dive into the most overlooked challenges founders face when they scale: losing visibility, clinging to control, and skipping the crucial step of designing people and culture systems that can actually support growth. From shadow planning and succession strategies to why success itself can be terrifying, Theresa shares powerful tools and real talk every startup leader needs to hear.If you're moving past 20 employees and want to build a company that lasts—without losing what made it special—this conversation is your playbook.Key TakeawaysStart HR Strategy Early: Don't wait for burnout or lawsuits—build people ops into your scaling strategy from day one.Shadow Planning Is Essential: Prepare for the worst by confronting your team's shadow behaviors and stress reactions before they sabotage growth.Succession Planning Isn't Personal: It's about scalability. AI Is Going Great – Or How ML Makes Money 01:33 Microsoft and OpenAI make a deal: Reading between the lines of their secretive new agreement – GeekWire Microsoft and OpenAI have signed a non-binding memorandum of understanding that will restructure their partnership, with OpenAI’s nonprofit entity receiving an equity stake exceeding $100 billion in a new public benefit corporation where Microsoft will play a major role. The deal addresses the AGI clause that previously allowed OpenAI to unilaterally dissolve the partnership upon achieving artificial general intelligence, which had been a significant risk for Microsoft’s multi-billion-dollar investment. Both companies are diversifying their partnerships – Microsoft is now using Anthropic’s technology for some Office 365 AI features, while OpenAI has signed a $300 billion computing contract with Oracle over five years. Microsoft’s exclusivity on OpenAI cloud workloads has been replaced with a right of first refusal, enabling OpenAI to participate in the $500 billion Stargate AI project with Oracle and other partners. The restructuring allows OpenAI to raise capital for its mission while ensuring the nonprofit’s resources grow proportionally, with plans to use funds for community impact, includin
On her first day as CFO of UHY, Laura LaPeer asked a simple question: “Do you guys do Copilot?” She had grown accustomed to using Microsoft's AI assistant for tasks ranging from summarizing documents to creating slides, and she wanted it in place immediately. The request, she tells us, reflected both her pragmatism and her view that technology should be leveraged quickly, but carefully, to support higher-value work. That same instinct—to look beyond the surface of a task—has shaped her career. At an earlier company, LaPeer noticed that procurement and treasury were being handled transactionally. Purchase orders were checked for compliance, and cash was managed cyclically. By zooming out, she recognized the chance to turn these into strategic functions: evaluating vendor risks, aligning relationships with business goals, and putting idle cash to work. This shift, she tells us, allowed finance to deliver tangible impact. Her time at ProQuest, where she witnessed growth through M&A, gave her a business lens she later carried into her CFO role at Plante Moran. Now at UHY, she applies the same perspective. With Summit Partners as a new investor, the firm is targeting $1 billion in revenue within five years, LaPeer tells us. Growth will come through both acquisitions and services such as outsourced accounting, valuation, and state and local tax.To get there, she emphasizes unity. “One UHY,” she says, requires integrating regional groups, building the bench, and ensuring technology like Workday delivers consistent, firm-wide insights.

In this episode, Scott Becker discusses Apple's strong rebound, with its market cap climbing back near $3.8 trillion .
I've been to a lot of medical conferences, but veterinary medicine conferences are different. Picture me, a human ophthalmologist, standing in front of a thousand vets, showing them photos of my dog Milo's eyes (because why not?). Turns out, they loved it and then immediately called me out for doing the exact thing they can't stand about human doctors. Oops. Kristin and I also get into the strange overlap between vet medicine and human medicine (yes, the cardiologists still argue), why ER veterinarians might actually have the hardest job in medicine, and how I managed to accidentally do the very thing vets complain about most. And if that's not enough, we dive headfirst into a Twitter firestorm about whether doctors should ever “Google it” in front of patients, plus a surprise crash course in chemotherapy drugs straight from my med school review book. Takeaways: Vet vs. Human Medicine – The personalities are eerily similar… but vets may have the tougher gig. The Milo Moment – How my dog's eyesight became the star of my keynote. Human Doctor Problem – Why vets roll their eyes when we try to flex our “expertise” in their clinics. Googling in the Exam Room – The controversial tweet that sparked a million opinions. Chemotherapy 101 – A chaotic but oddly fascinating attempt to explain cancer drugs on the fly. — To Get Tickets to Wife & Death: You can visit Glaucomflecken.com/live We want to hear YOUR stories (and medical puns)! On today show, we are talking about the impact of the newly announced $100,000 fee associated with the H1B visa to the United States. According to my research, historically the United States had admitted 65,000 H1 B visas per year with an additional 20,000 visa for those holding advanced US degrees.Anytime there is a major policy shift. The marketplace will adapt and find a new way to optimize the allocation of talent. Silicon Valley was cited as one of the Main reasons for the policy change. The tech industry has seen significant layoffs over the past year. Companies like Microsoft, Amazon, Google, Facebook have all released tens of thousands over the past year. The policy change will probably see some of those laid off workers getting rehired and those international workers covered by a visa, now a very expensive visa, being sent home to their country of origin. The largest user of H1B visas is Amazon with over 14,600 visa holders. At $100,000 a year each, this would cost an additional $1.4B in fees to the US government. I personally would be surprise if any company would just roll over and pay for an additional $1.4B in fees. The top users are Amazon, TCS from India with about 5500, Microsoft with a little over 5100, Meta with about 5100.Even Walmart has about 2400. I would bet that Walmart would move those positions to their software design center in Toronto or Ottawa and save $239M dollars with zero loss of productivity. When I ran an engineering organization, we did not use the H1B Visa program to import labour per se. We used the program to bring a few people from some of the remote design centres and immerse them in the culture in our Sunnyvale office so that they could in turn cross pollinate the culture across the organization. It gave that individual a foreign expat assignment and at the same time improved the cohesiveness between the different design centres around the world. They would later return to their remote design centre. I personally believe that the use of the H1B Visa will drop to nearly zero with the imposition of this new policy. That means another 100,000 people in high paying jobs will likely leave the US. These people will probably continue to work for the same company from their country of origin, if they are an individual contributor. If they are in a managerial role, then the relationship gets more complicated. I truly can't think of too many companies that will be willing to pay that $100,000 fee for the visa. This year 2025 was the first year in which US population has shrunk in almost 100 years. Shrinking population means a shrinking economy, especially when you consider that 70% of the GDP is based on consumption. ----------**Real Estate Espresso Podcast:** Spotify: [The Real Estate Espresso Podcast](https://open.spotify.com/show/3GvtwRmTq4r3es8cbw8jW0?si=c75ea506a6694ef1) iTunes: [The Real Estate Espresso Podcast](https://podcasts.apple.com/ca/podcast/the-real-estate-espresso-podcast/id1340482613) Website: [www.victorjm.com](http://www.victorjm.com) LinkedIn: [Victor Menasce](http://www.linkedin.com/in/vmenasce) YouTube: [The Real Estate Espresso Podcast](http://www.youtube.com/@victorjmenasce6734) Facebook: [www.facebook.com/realestateespresso](http://www.facebook.com/realestateespresso) Email: [podcast@victorjm.com](mailto:podcast@victorjm.com) **Y Street Capital:** Website: [www.ystreetcapital.com](http://www.ystreetcapital.com) Facebook: [www.facebook.com/YStreetCapital](https://www.facebook.com/YStreetCapital) Instagram: [@ystreetcapital](http://www.instagram.com/ystreetcapital)

This will push gold to the upside most likely close to $4500 an ounce. It has begun. The [DS] is losing the narrative, the people are waking up and they cannot stop it. They attempt to try to shift the narrative most likely with a very big distraction, this could be a cyber attack which leads to war. Will the Trump admin allow this to happen, no. H-1B Visa Loophole Ending – Tech Jobs Should be Opening Up and Salaries Rising The order also blocks H-1B holders from reentering the U.S. without their employer paying the fee. Tech and finance companies scrambled to respond. Amazon, which employs nearly 15,000 H-1B workers, told staff not to attempt reentry after the deadline. Microsoft warned that the order left “little time” to adjust and advised workers to remain in the U.S. to avoid being locked out. Meta and JPMorgan issued similar guidance, urging employees overseas to return within 24 hours if possible. The disruption highlighted the dependence of major U.S. companies on foreign-born engineers and developers. Congressional amendments in 1998 worsened the problem. A loophole allowed companies to avoid recruiting Americans if they paid H-1B workers at least $60,000, far below average tech salaries, which often exceed $120,000. This provision provided legal cover for firms to replace domestic workers with cheaper foreign labor. The consequences became especially visible during recent mass layoffs. In 2022 and early 2023, the top 30 H-1B employers hired 34,000 visa workers while laying off at least 85,000 employees. Some companies were approved for more than 5,000 H-1B hires in fiscal year 2025 even as they cut over 15,000 staff. The program's lottery system has also been manipulated. Nearly 409,000 registrations for fiscal year 2024 were duplicates, suggesting widespread gaming. Investigations found staffing firms filing multiple entries for the same applicant to boost their odds.
