Having Long Covid can be an extremely isolating experience, patients may not look unwell, but they have debilitating symptoms like shortness of breath, muscle pain or extreme fatigue. Sufferers say it's hard to explain what's happening, but now there's another language to help them communicate. It's called "body mapping" and is bringing positive results to Long Covid patients. Oxford University research fellow Maaret Yokela-Pansini teamed up with colleague Professor Beth Greenhough to use body mapping for their project Visualising Long Covid, with the help of charity Long Covid Support.Former professional rower turned Long Covid advocate, Oonagh Cousins, says body mapping allowed her to reflect on how the illness is experienced in different parts of the body. Maaret and Oonagh speak to Mihi.

SYNOPSIS: Ali is in the hot seat today! The tables have turned as longtime friend, student and Television Producer, Lauren Gleason, interviews Ali about her body-based method, Personal Geometry® - a practice she developed to give the body a language that our cognitive minds can immediately access and understand.  Together, they explore how Personal Geometry® and body mapping techniques are used in therapeutic and clinical healing, particularly in addressing challenges related to the body, sexuality, and addiction. Ali shares how she refined her method while working in renowned rehab centres in Los Angeles, offering real-life examples of its impact and honoring the influence and her experience of Family Constellation Work. They discuss the power of mapping relational dynamics - how visualizing the roles we hold in family systems can illuminate unconscious patterns, especially in the context of addiction and trauma. Other topics explored include the common phenomenon of emotional incest, the challenges and call to work with perpetrators, sexual biases as a facilitator, and our universal need to belong. At its core, Personal Geometry® is a somatic practice that taps into the body's innate, felt-sense understanding of spatial relationships. By bypassing psychological defense mechanisms, it directly reveals how we unconsciously position ourselves in relation to others, environments, and internal conflicts. This non-verbal, embodied approach provides a clear and immediate visual representation of a client's inner world, making it an invaluable tool for therapists, facilitators, and anyone seeking profound transformation.  PERSONAL GEOMETRY TRAININGSJoin the Next Personal Geometry® Foundations Class  (online over Zoom)Now enrolling - click here for more details. Are you struggling to achieve your goals and live up to your full potential? Do limiting beliefs, fears, or negative emotions hold you back from success, health, wealth and happiness? Dr. David Snyder shares powerful techniques to reprogram your subconscious mind for rapid transformation. Through interactive exercises and proven NLP methods, Snyder teaches how to overcome blocks like procrastination, eliminate negative thoughts and feelings, and program your mind for maximum results. Learn to attract good people into your life, make more money effortlessly, and take control of your destiny! Standout Quotes: “You are not the way you are because of the things that happened to you. You are the way you are because of the way you recorded the things that happened to you.” – Dr. David Snyder “If you can point to where you feel it, you can change it.” – Dr. David Snyder “You are not broken, there is nothing wrong with you. The feelings in your body, the stuff that keeps coming up does not mean you're broken.” – Dr. David Snyder “You are the God or Goddess of your reality. You are the king or queen of your universe. And you have absolutely every right and privilege and authority to make any change that you want.” – Dr. David Snyder “Everything you experience is a product of a code that your nervous system wrote and is running? Well, if your system wrote the code, it can rewrite the code.” – Dr. David Snyder “There's literal magic inside of you waiting to be set free. Will you accept it? Will you embrace it? Will you go for it?” – Dr. David Snyder Key Takeaways: Practice the "frame game" technique daily to rapidly evolve your emotions, thoughts, and destiny through self-directed neuroplasticity. Use somatic techniques like pointing to feelings in your body and reframing pictures to methodically resolve issues, allowing deeper layers of related problems to surface for transformation. Ask yourself "What is the root cause behind this chronic issue in my life?" and seek to address psycho-emotional sources through techniques like regression, rather than just treating surface symptoms. Nurture your inner child daily with self-love, acceptance and empowering beliefs so that you can overcome limitations and break through to your full potential. She is innovative, and truly passionate about what she does; she's been able to help thousands of clients regain trust with their relationships, and live a life that is tuned in, and turned on.   In today's episode, we're talking about: -Laurel's story of finding and becoming herself as the Divine Feminine Enchantress after healing, and learning who her highest self was -The importance of learning to love and accept our bodies, so we will realize that others can love and accept our bodies too -Realizing that we don't have to “become” something, because we've always been worthy, and are enough already -Why we need to be able to receive pleasure (it's our birthright to be able to have pleasure and joy after all), and not feel like we have to ‘give' first, in order to receive from others  -Recognizing self-betrayal and how to stop it, and why we need to remember that our head is a clock, and our heart is a compass -Why we need to stop giving away our power, and be open to receiving things (inside and outside of the bedroom)   I absolutely LOVED this conversation with Laurel; we covered so much goodness! We investigate the power of nature, long walks, and regular showers. And how the body holds all our secrets. As an actor, Ali has performed on Broadway and off, and in venues across the country including The Roundabout Theatre, The Guthrie Theater, The Old Globe, Cincinnati playhouse in the park, Fault Line Theatre, Barrington Stage and more. Ali loves movement theater and recently completed the international residency program with Frantic Assembly in London. As a painter, her saturated, rhythmic use of color to paint women's bodies and faces, describes the womxn up against herself. She questions the scope of femininity by capturing moments of rage, torture, complacency, joy, nostalgia, and desire. Ali is an expressionist with occasional abstract tendencies. Standout Quotes: “People have trouble with hypnosis because they think they know what hypnosis is and what it feels like. But it's not really hypnosis, what we're talking about is altered states of consciousness. The ability to get every part of your neurology, integrated, communicating, and focused on a particular outcome.” “All you have to do to go into a powerful oxytocin-laden stage is remember a time when you felt tremendous pleasure. The more you practice this, the more powerful it gets and the stronger those feelings become. This is a commanding way to go into a practical altered state that integrates mind and body.” “When the body experiences a pleasure, it secretes a cocktail of hormones, oxytocin, serotonin, dopamine. Oxytocin specifically activates a process in your body, known as neuroplasticity. It allows you to rapidly install new 'programs' and overwrites old ones.” Key Takeaways: The division of our neurology that creates and projects things outside of us is the proprioception. When it's inside of us, it's called interoception. When we take our hands and touch a spot in our body, we activate more brain pathways to that information. Every division of the human nervous system is hardwired to seek an answer to any question that you ask. When you start asking your unconscious mind for information, it accesses all of the information related to what you've asked about. Most of the issues we have are always about how we encode the information, not the event themselves, and how we relate to the structures. When we take information and move it behind us, our neurology now classifies it as done, complete, or over. This week, we have a rebroadcast of my conversation from September of 2020 with performer and educator Vanessa Mulvey. The Question of the Week we discussed was, "Should understanding the body be a priority in music education?" Ms. Mulvey and I discuss how everything in our body is connected, how modernity encourages us not to use or understand our bodies, the disconnect between good and bad performances, and how all music performance revolves around movement. Truly understanding the body and its various connections and nuances is not something that is prioritized in music education, the effects of which are shown through the disturbing number of musicians who suffer from body issues. As I’ve developed as a conductor and violinist, looking at music through the scope of my body has been one of the most helpful and healthiest changes I’ve made as a musician. That shift in focus happened for me as a student in Vanessa Mulvey’s Body Mapping class and I learned even more through this conversation with her. Please enjoy this rebroadcast of my conversation with Vanessa Mulvey.

About Dr. Lori Cesario: Dr. Lori Cesario is a Board-Certified Veterinary Oncologist who is dedicated to providing families with high quality information about dog cancer. Dr. Cesario runs the Canine Cancer Academy (https://www.caninecanceracademy.com/ (https://www.caninecanceracademy.com/)) Laura and Dr. Cesario talk about what to do if you find a lump on your dog (and how frequently you should evaluate your dog to make sure everything is normal). By establishing a baseline, you'll be able to more easily notice when something abnormal appears. The best way to make sure you are monitoring and recording your dog's lumps and bumps is to use a body map of your dog. Dr. Cesario explains what a body map is, and how using one is helpful for both you and your vet. Laura asks about warts (which appear outside the skin as opposed to cancerous masses) - Dr. Cesario explains that the most important thing for your dog is to get a diagnosis for any sort of lump, whether it looks like a skin tag, a bug bite, or a wart. Fortunately, diagnosing a lump on your dog's skin is often pretty quick. After taking the first step of getting a diagnosis, you can then take the next steps, whether it's treating the mass or continuing to monitor it. Laura and Dr. Cesario discuss how treating skin tumors can work (and how an incomplete surgery can leave dangerous, cancerous cells behind). When you treat your dog for cancer, it has to be a comprehensive treatment so that the cancer doesn't re-emerge. That's why getting the diagnosis right in the first place is so critical to your dog's health. They talk about treatment options, including Dr. Cesario's thoughts on holistic treatment. Treatment can vary for each dog's situation, so treatment options really depend on the dog. Treating cancer often comes down to balancing health with quality of life for the dog. Dr. Cesario gives some general cost estimates for treating canine cancer, listing cost based on the type treatment. She also goes over how much the treatment options can extend your dogs life (and how variable and unpredictable that time estimate can be).

Hang tight everybody! Today's episode was a doozy! I was joined by Corey Deacon, the co-founder and Medical Director of Neurvana Health, a clinic in Calgary that focuses on brain health and something called Quantitative EEG (qEEG). Now, Corey's credentials are exhaustive! He has a Doctorate in Natural Medicine, he's a Certified Functional Medicine Practitioner, and he's a member of The Examining Board of Natural Medicine Practitioners Canada™. Corey has extensive experience exploring how lifestyle has an effect on brain health. And not just brain health as it pertains to concussions or trauma, but as it pertains to anxiety, depression, ADD, and some of the more functional disorders that are quite frankly systemic in our population.   In this episode, Corey and I went deep into the science — we seriously geeked out on some of the things that you should be looking at in your own lifestyle, how you can start to make shifts on a daily basis, and the top three things that we are both seeing affecting people in a chronic way — and they are definitely not what you'd expect!   If you are interested in understanding how your brain can serve you at its highest potential and how you can preserve your brain activity very long into life, then this episode is designed especially for you!   Key Takeaways: [1:13] About today's episode! [2:39] Welcoming Corey Deacon to the podcast! [3:13] Corey gives a background on who he is and how he's gotten to the place he is today! [8:56] When Corey talks about quantitative analysis and is measuring brain waves, what is it that he is actually looking at? What are they measuring at Neurvana Health and why are they important? [13:13] Has Corey seen shifts in the patients and individuals with emotional and psychological brain diagnoses with the testing that he is doing at Neurvana Health? [18:54] Corey speaks about the influence of CBD on the brain. [22:38] Corey highlights some of the habits that have a deleterious effect on the brain. [31:01] The top three habits Corey observes that are affecting people in a chronic way. [32:15] Corey speaks about their population of patients dealing with chronic inflammatory response syndrome. [33:16] The habits Corey is seeing people engaging in that are having really strong positive effects on brain health. [39:03] Once people have the foundational pieces in place, what are some advanced maneuvers people can engage in to further improve brain health? [41:17] Corey's key-performance indicators! She is a vibrationally-sensitive energy worker, a Medical Intuitive, a Craniosacral Therapist and a Certified Homeopathic Practitioner. After 10 years of teaching high school she decided she needed to recharge her health and make a career change. In 1996 she had her own experience with energy that started to improve her health on so many levels. Feeling like a huge light-bulb got turned on, she began to study, write, research and practice the information she was receiving both intuitively and through her courses. The following year, she studied Somato-Respiratory Integration (SRI) with Dr. Donald Epstein, founder of Network Spinal Analysis. “I practiced and became a facilitator to hundreds of people who were undergoing Network Spinal Analysis adjustments. Most people were not aware that the body emitted bio-rhythms of energy. By connecting to your body through breath and touch you can help change your tension patterns with peaceful waves. That was the first time I heard the technique of entrainments and I’ve been using it ever since. “She sees our minds as hungry seekers ready to explore its neurological frontier where states of consciousness can keep us from running ourselves to the ground and losing our health, our heart, and our humanness. She herself has tapped into hundreds of blueprints through Body Mapping that has given her insight on what is really needed to avoid the medication/and degenerative disease syndromes. She has learned that the brain can reach beyond its habitual level of function and be enhanced by newer states of experiences such as centeredness, gratitude, and oneness by learning to receive Universal Energy frequencies. When the mind “surrenders” to something better: absolute love and peace, our Fight/Flight patterns of tension stop and tight muscles lose their grip. When she works with a client, she activates an energy wave and starts to move it up the body as a way of bringing awareness of inner stuff to the mind. It engages the mind to pay attention to the body and discover what is being ignored. Inner listening helps us to sort out conflicts. Her Body Maps with bold colored lines going down into various points of the hologram are proof that energy can be resourced from above, below and around in order to wake up stagnant, suppressed areas and activate currents within us.My clients love when I do a body map for them and then share the information: I’ve developed a way of interpreting colors and shapes to help explain their healing process. to get beyond your lower brain reactions to higher consciousness. 006 Every Sing: Marieke Schuurs on Body Mapping and Alexander Technique   Marieke started to consider Alexander Technique and Body Mapping after attending the Voice Care Network in Minnesota in the 1990’s. After, she started working with Barbara Connable on Body Mapping.   Cathey Madden - Seattle Alexander Teacher, UW Drama dept.   Certification in Body Mapping from Andover Educators and is a certified Alexander Technique Teacher from Alexander Technique International   At the beginning the teacher has to build a bridge from the student’s understanding to what Body Mapping can teach   The Fundamental tenant of Alexander is that you have an overall use of yourself, it might be really good, really poor, or somewhere in-between, from things that you do, or habitual postures. If your general use is poor, it effects everything you do and everything you do is more arduous, more labored and puts pressure on the joints. So the more you can bring somebody into easier, smoother coordination then everything they do becomes more fluid. Improve the core use and then everything else gets effect after that.   In improving physical technique, unpack the habit (what are the little steps).  The word “singing” becomes  the trigger for the habit. On a neuro-physical level, as soon as they think of singing their system goes into a whole system of neurological responses. Our body’s do that all the time. The habits start so fast that sometimes it can’t be stopped.  To teach a singer to be aware of the moment before they start, ask them to think about singing but don’t start, then do it again, and again, and notice the habits. It gives them the opportunity to stop the habit and create new ones.   When you are moving well according to your structural-muscular design, then the quality of your movement becomes easier, lighter, and more fluid.    Marieke’s website:  http://www.cantarevoicestudio.com   Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/cantarevoicestudio/   Every Sing on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/groups/1711090705861666/   Every Sing on Twitter: @Every_Sing_Pod   Nancy's website: NancyBos.net   Teadora beauty.com  Our favorite Teadora products around my house are the beauty butter, Brazilian glow radiance oil, and the sugar scrub mask.
