Any Given Sunday Review | Born to Watch PodcastOur Any Given Sunday Review takes the Born to Watch boys back to 1999 for Oliver Stone's chaotic, testosterone-fuelled dive into the world of professional football. Featuring Al Pacino, Jamie Foxx, Dennis Quaid and peak Cameron Diaz, Any Given Sunday promised everything a sports movie fan could want. But does it still hold up, or is this one all style and no substance?Whitey, Dan and special guest Will strap on the shoulder pads and revisit Oliver Stone's divisive NFL epic. What starts as a love letter to sports movies quickly turns into an examination of shaky cameras, over-the-top editing, giant egos and one of the most exhausting viewing experiences the boys have tackled in a while.Al Pacino brings his trademark intensity as veteran coach Tony D'Amato, desperately trying to hold together the Miami Sharks while battling a ruthless owner, rebellious players and a rapidly changing game. Jamie Foxx bursts onto the scene as Willie Beamen, the backup quarterback who suddenly becomes a superstar, while Dennis Quaid delivers a solid performance as ageing veteran Cap Rooney.Along the way, the boys discuss why Oliver Stone seems determined to assault your eyeballs with every editing trick imaginable. From subliminal gladiator imagery to frantic camera work and changing film stock, Whitey wonders whether the movie is trying too hard to be profound. Dan compares it to Natural Born Killers and argues that Stone's style overwhelms the actual story. The conversation naturally branches out into memories of 1999, drunken phone calls, encounters with Elizabeth Berkley, backup quarterbacks becoming heroes, and whether there is a more pressure-filled position in sport than an NFL quarterback. There's also plenty of appreciation for the stacked cast. James Woods shines as the dodgy doctor, LL Cool J delivers one of the biggest dickheads in sports movie history, and Lawrence Taylor proves real athletes can occasionally act. Meanwhile, Cameron Diaz splits the room, with Whitey refusing to give prime Diaz a quickfire vote despite the objections of everyone else.As always, the boys go deep into the IMDb ratings, box office numbers and critical reviews before throwing around comparisons to Varsity Blues, Office Space, American Beauty and other classics from the legendary year of 1999.But the biggest question remains. Is Any Given Sunday a genuine sports classic, or is it simply a two-and-a-half-hour migraine wrapped in slow motion and Kid Rock? One thing is certain. Whether they're discussing football strategy, Oliver Stone's obsession with gladiators or the horrors of professional athlete fashion, Whitey, Dan and Will once again prove that no movie is safe when it lands on Born to Watch.Join the TeamLove movies? Ian Von sits down with triple–threat talent Keith D. Robinson for a rich conversation that moves between two worlds: R&B and acting. Keith opens up about growing up in 90s R&B culture, getting his start in harmony groups, landing a short–lived Motown deal, and how a leap of faith to Los Angeles led to major film and TV roles. He breaks down the parallels between his own journey and his breakout role as CC in Dreamgirls, revisits performing “Patience” on the Oscars stage alongside Beyoncé and Jennifer Hudson, and talks about what it meant to realize he actually belonged in rooms with icons like Jamie Foxx and Eddie Murphy. On the music side, Keith dives into his new single “Different Languages” and the forthcoming album Love Episodic 2: The Algorithm—a deeply personal project shaped by COVID, the Hollywood strike, fatherhood, and divorce. He explains how songwriting forces him to become more self–aware and empathetic, and why relationships are really defined in the bad times, not the good ones. They also unpack his role as Dr. Ted Richardson on CBS's Beyond the Gates, why affluent Black family stories matter in this moment, what it's like juggling live performance with on–camera work, and they close with a fun R&B head–to–head: Tank vs. Tyrese in Verzuz.
How do you go from sharing a cramped Los Angeles bedroom with four other guys to landing a full series order from Netflix off a single pitch? In today's episode, we sit down with Dan Perrault, the visionary co-creator of the hit mockumentary American Vandal and the series Players, to explore his incredible journey from producing viral YouTube sketches to becoming a major showrunner and actor. Dan pulls back the curtain on the "streaming gold rush" that launched his career, the high-stakes crunch to flesh out a season-long arc in just two weeks, and his fascinating experiences acting opposite Hollywood icons like Jamie Foxx and Mark Ruffalo. From mastering the technical art of self-taping to why a failed pilot script is actually a powerful tool for growth, Dan offers a candid and inspiring look at how to write your own path in an industry that rarely hands out invitations. Tune in to discover how a DIY spirit and a parody about high school graffiti turned into a global phenomenon. These are unforgettable stories that landed Dan Perrault right here. In this week's Mental Man Monday livestream, Izzy Baker returns after a short break to recap recent episodes from Season 10 of PSA: The Mental Health Podcast while diving into two viral cultural conversations that unexpectedly reveal deeper truths about mental health, trauma, healing, accountability, and emotional decision-making in men's lives. If you enjoy a men's mental health podcast that blends humor, culture, emotional intelligence, faith, and real conversations about life, relationships, and healing — this episode is for you. Before jumping into the trending topics,Izzy reflects on the first few episodes of Season 10, including the viral conversation around the phrase “man up,” the psychology behind why “nice guys finish last” with Troy Daronco, and the emotional grief conversation with Talk With Tay. From losing parents to emotional suppression, rejection, validation, and learning how to let people misunderstand you without losing yourself, the livestream revisits the emotional themes already shaping this season. The first major topic centers around Dr. Umar Johnson's viral response to Jamie Foxx allegedly having another child with a white woman, leading into a larger conversation about trauma, parental abandonment, dating preferences, relationships, Black identity, healing, and emotional grace.Could childhood wounds influence romantic choices later in life? Is Dr. Umar overreaching — or asking questions many people quietly wonder about? Izzy breaks down the psychology behind relationships, broken homes, family dynamics, and why unresolved trauma often resurfaces in unexpected ways. Then the conversation shifts to Steve Harvey's viral comments about Diddy, accountability, and consequences. After Steve speaks candidly about boundaries, abuse, pride, and public downfall, Izzy explores what situations like this reveal about power, unchecked behavior, arrogance, emotional regulation, and why people often believe they'll never face consequences until life forces accountability. The discussion expands into discipline, temptation, emotional self-control, and how private decisions eventually become public realities.Throughout the livestream, Izzy uses the Mental Man Monday breakdown to unpack every topic through the lens of mental health, emotional awareness, masculinity, relationships, faith, and accountability. From grief and broken families to relationships, trauma, celebrity culture, and public consequences, the bigger question remains:How do men heal without ignoring accountability?Because sometimes the viral moment isn't really about celebrity drama. Sometimes it's a mirror showing us what still needs healing. Listen. Reflect. And ask yourself: Are your choices coming from healing… or unresolved pain?Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/p-s-a-the-mental-health-podcast--5520511/support.TrustBuilder Package

After a lengthy absence, B. Cox returns to review hip-hop legend T.I.'s explosive fourth album King as it turns 20.After stepping onto the scene and making himself known with his debut album, 2001's I'm Serious, the Atlanta rap star made further waves and saw larger success with his sophomore and junior albums, 2003's Trap Muzik and 2004's Urban Legend, respectively. He was looking to take the next step with this effort and make a claim as the professed "King Of The South" at a time when Atlanta hip-hop made its way to being at the epicenter of the industry. The album featured an all-star cast of producers and featured artist. It was produced by the likes of DJ Toomp, Mannie Fresh, Jus Blaze, The Neptunes, Kevin Mack, Nick Fury, Kevin "Khao" Cates and Swizz Beats while featuring artists such as UGK, Young Jeezy, Common, Young Dro, B.G., Young Buck, Pharrell and Jamie Foxx among others. The album's release coincided with the release three days later of the feature film and cult classic ATL, which was T.I.'s feature film debut and it also served as the de facto soundtrack. The album had four power-packed singles including the smash lead single "What You Know", which served as the movie's default theme. It was a huge success commercially, selling over 500,000 units the first week and is RIAA-certified 2x platinum. It solidified T.i. as a megastar and a major player in not only Atlanta's rap atmosphere, but the industry at-large for years to come.Show NotesOkayPlayer: The Once and Expeditious King: T.I. on 'King' 20 Years Later, His Latest Album and Morehttps://www.okayplayer.com/the-once-and-expeditious-king-ti-on-king-20-years-later-his-latest-album-and-more/1426138Yahoo: T.I. says it's 'wild to think that' his album 'King' is 20 years oldhttps://www.yahoo.com/entertainment/music/articles/t-says-wild-think-album-100000151.htmlWSB 95.5 Atlanta Talk & Music: Atlanta icon T.I. celebrates 20th anniversary of King album and its undeniable impacthttps://www.wsbradio.com/news/local/atlanta-icon-ti-commemorates-20th-anniversary-king-album-its-undeniable-impact/XD322ZV6JBHI5FJRHTJQOSPU5Y/Advertising Inquiries: https://redcircle.com/brandsPrivacy & Opt-Out: https://redcircle.com/privacy
In this special live episode, Ian Von sits down backstage at Tipitina's with powerhouse singer, songwriter, producer, and multi-instrumentalist Sam Pounds, along with his musical collaborators Family Company. Fresh off soundcheck and just minutes before showtime, they break down Sam's journey from North Carolina church roots to producing for Jamie Foxx and Snoop Dogg, crafting the Day Shift theme song, and ultimately landing on the legendary Death Row Records. They dive into why real instruments, live arrangements, and human feel still matter in an AI-driven era, how they channel the spirit of the late 60s/early 70s soul greats, and why this New Orleans show is one of the most important of Sam's career. The crew also touches on the new single “Queen”, the sound and philosophy of Family Company, and what it means to build a tribe that's committed to real R&B and soul.
