In this episode of the Action Movie Guys Podcast, Alex and Nate revisit G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra (2009) after a long time away. With high-tech weapons, over-the-top action, and a star-studded cast, does this live-action take on the classic toy line still hold up? Or is it all style with no substance? Tune in as they dive back into the battle and share their updated thoughts on this explosive franchise starter!
The 80's were absolutely the peak era when it came to Saturday morning having the cartoons for the toys that we all wanted to have and play with. Then, the 2000's decided they wanted to cash in on all that nostalgia, and threw up a ton of CGI messes on to the silver screen. We ate it up, but did it give us indigestion? Find out as we look to see if G.I. Joe: The Rise Of Cobra is not that b Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

Directed by Jon M. Chu, G.I. Joe: Retaliation is the military science fiction action film based on the G.I. Joe toy line. Luke and Nathan go back to 2013 to review it like they stole it - the second installment in the G.I. Joe film series and sequel to G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra (2019). Duke (Channing Tatum), second-in-command Roadblock (Dwayne Johnson), and the rest of the Joes (D.J. Cotrona, Lee Byung-hun) face a two-fold threat. Not only is their mortal enemy COBRA rearing its ugly head again, but there is also a threat from within the U.S. government: There might be an impostor in the White House. Meanwhile, Snake Eyes (Ray Park) is on a search for inner peace but learns that his nemesis, Storm Shadow (Lee Byung-hun), is still alive.

From a Ken Doll in fatigues to "action figures" with kung fu grip to an afterschool cartoon and finally to... a live action theatrical release! It's 2009's G.I. JOE: RISE OF CORBA. The fictional President is nameless, but is he also faceless? (Well...technically, yes, in a way, but we'll get to that...) THE MUMMY'S Stephen Sommers directs a cast of literally thousands (of names). Every character (except for The President) has at least two names, some have three. It's needlessly complicated. But is the nefarious plan of Joseph Gordon-Levitt's The Doctor aka Cobra Commander aka Rexford "Rex" Lewis also needlessly complicated? (Yes, yes it is. Very much so.) Channing Tatum, Marlon Wayans, Rachel Nichols, Sienna Miller, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Dennis Quaid, Lee Byung-hun, Arnold Vosloo, Ray Park, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, and an uncredited Brendan Fraser star alongside Sir Jonathan Pryce as the faux potus. Got to get tough! .....if you want to finish this flame-out of an action film. Because this one is a labor to get through, but now you know... and knowing, is half the battle. This week on The CineMeh Podcast, Josh and Ryan are joined by a guest commentator to tackle the topic film! As we break down G.I. Joe: the Rise of Cobra from 2009, you will get the learned perspective of G.I. Joe subject matter expert Mike Winfrey! Mike has been an active G.I. Joe collector for some time, and as well as being extremely familiar with the toy, he is deeply acquainted with the established lore of the comic books and cartoon series! So what does all of that have to do with informing the analysis on today's movie?! Not much! Because whatever studio executive behind this train wreck that thought Baroness and Duke should have a casual love triangle with Destro, that may or may not occasionally involve Storm Shadow, but absolutely triggers Cobra Commander's protective big brother syndrome, probably needs to go back and watch another episode of the cartoon. That sentence, by the way, makes complete sense if you have actually seen this movie, and if you have not, then you are in for a wild ride. Try not to think too hard watching this one: we not only don't recommend, it might actually be harmful to your brain. And now you know. And once again: knowing... is half the battle. .....Yeah, they say that twice in the movie. (WE GOT IT THE FIRST TIME, STUART!) Stuart is one of the writers on this movie. Okay, you've heard enough from me, on with the show! The CineMEH Podcast is a Slyjack Media, LLC production Like what you hear? After The Mummy 3 gets buried by critics, Fraser turns to an old friend for help: Stephen Sommers. He asks Stephen: "Hey Steve, I'm kinda looking for work right now since The Mummy 3 didn't do so well. Got anything in the pipeline we could maybe collaborate on?" Stephen's response: "How would you like to be in one scene in this new movie based on a toy franchise?" This episode is full of surprises that you won't want to miss.
Extra Hot Great's Dave Cole is back to help us list the many complaints prompted by 2009's dreadful and boring live-action take on G.I. Joe, including attempts to elevate an already-fine cartoon, suboptimal explosions and fight scenes, pointless origin stories, creepy side views of Quaid holograms, and the movie putting SDB in the position of defending Transformers 2. G.I. Joe lifts scenes almost wholesale from Star Wars, Apollo 13, and others, and it still sucks -- but is DQ perfectly cast, and not the third or fourth choice for once? Did Channing Tatum's character learn about marriage proposals from Galaxy Quest's historical documents? And could we identify the exact moment, in the middle of a line of dialogue, when Joseph Gordon-Levitt gave up and went full Vincent Price on The Brady Bunch? So many questions (and Winston Lights-infused line deliveries)...but knowing is half the battle in the latest Quaid In Full. Rachel Nichols' career story is packed with memorable characters from all manner of genre entertainment. She was Kiera Cameron, the ass-kicking cop from the future, on Continuum, one of the only locally shot sci-fi series to actually set their story in Vancouver. She was Alexa, the waitress who enjoys a birthday threesome with Samantha and Richard in an iconic episode of Sex and the City. She was possibly the worst babysitter ever seen on screen in The Amityville Horror, a role for which she was nominated for Best Frightened Performance at the MTV Movie Awards and Choice Movie Scream Scene at the Teen Choice Awards. She starred as Ashley Seaver in Criminal Minds, as an FBI special agent whose father was a serial killer, and as the brilliant Rachel Gibson in Alias. We saw her as gestapo officer Martha Stroud, sworn to guard and observe Chelah Horsdal's Helen Smith, in The Man in the High Castle, and as Angela Azarath, the duplicitous mother of Raven, on Titans. This year, she was revealed as the woman who ran down Eddie in A Million Little Things. Her filmography also includes memorable roles in big-budget projects like G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra, Star Trek, and Charlie Wilson's War. In this entertaining and contemplative conversation, Rachel reflects on her time in Kiera's shoes (“We have a lot of similarities… We're loyal. We will throw down for anybody that we love”), how working alongside Kim Cattrall on Sex and the City changed her life and career, learning how not to take shit, her husband's mad love for Brian Markinson, and what makes this versatile and beloved actress tick. In Honor of the Snake Eyes movie being released the Movie Time Madness crew compares the first two live action movies in the GI Joe franchise!
With Snake Eyes getting his own origin movie it's time to revisit the Snake Eyes origin movie, 2009's GI Joe The Rise Of Cobra. A blatant Hasbro attempt to cash in on the success of the Transformers movie it seems Channing Tatum's Duke go up against the might of Destro, Cobra Commander and other people in goofy costumes with the back of GI Joe, an elite fighting force of weirdos with bizarre weapons and a green screen base. Also nanites and the President becomes the guy from The Mummy or whatever. It's a great movie and everyone thought so. You may remember playing with the toys. You may remember watching the animated show. But did you watch the 2009 live-action movie? Directed by Stephen Sommers, G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra is the military science fiction action film based of the toy franchise created by Hasbro. Luke and Jae revisit the first installment in the live-action G.I. Joe film series, which took particular inspiration from the comic book series G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero. Armed with the latest in military and spy technology, the team of elite soldiers known as G.I. Joe travel around the globe to wherever their services are needed. In their latest assignment General Hawk (Dennis Quaid), Duke (Channing Tatum) and the rest of the G.I. Deep Trouble II! Did the first Deep Trouble really warrant a sequel? Perhaps not, but neither did G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra (2009) or The Croods (2013) but that didn't stop those Hollywood fat-cats from greenlighting sequels several years after the originals. Deep Trouble II is a lot like it's fellow aquatic-sequel Jaws 2 (1978) in that it features giant sea creatures and magic plankton that turns you into a fish (note: I have not seen Jaws 2).Deep Trouble II is the fifty-eighth book in the original Goosebumps book series, and the second book in the Deep Trouble saga. It was first published in 1997.

Today on the Neil Haley Show, The Total Tutor Neil Haley will interview Marlon Wayans of NBC's Marlon. Wayans is commonly recognized for his role in the 2004 hit comedy "White Chicks," opposite Shawn Wayans, Jamie King and Terry Crews. The film was directed by Keenen Ivory Wayans and grossed $69 million in the U.S. He also starred alongside Shawn Wayans and Regina Hall in the horror comedy spoof films "Scary Movie" and "Scary Movie 2," directed by Keenen Ivory Wayans. Wayans' additional film credits include "Mo' Money," "Above the Rim," "Don't Be a Menace to South Central While Drinking Your Juice in the Hood," "The 6th Man" "Senseless," "Dungeons & Dragons," "Requiem for a Dream," "The Ladykillers," "Behind the Smile," "Little Man," "Norbit," "Dance Flick," "G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra, "Marmaduke" and "The Heat." On the small screen, Wayans hosted the NBC show "I Can Do That," a comedy/variety series where six celebrities are asked to put on an entertainment show with skills they didn't even know they had. He also starred in and created the TBS comedy competition series "Funniest Wins." Additionally, Wayans has appeared on several popular television programs, including "In Living Color," "Childrens Hospital," "Second Generation Wayans" and the WB's "The Wayans Bros."

Joe are all well known American heroes, but it’s the unsung heroes of Leland and Spooky who are burdened with the task of watching 2009’s G.I. Joe: Rise of Cobra, and now they want to share their experience with you. Welcome... The post Movie Issues: G.I. Joe The Rise of Cobra first appeared on Pixelated Geek.
TO SYNC WITH MOVIE: Start this commentary 10 seconds after starting movie. A new decade brings forth new life challenges. For the Film Pigs, this means sitting through the stupidest movie from the previous decade. It's hard to quantify just how monumentally stupid G.I. Joe: The Rise Of Cobra is, but with a running time of two hours, there's plenty of time to try. Based on the 1980s toy line (much like the other wildly expensive and brain damaging Transformers franchise), G.I. Joe: The Rise Of Cobra tells the story of a bunch of assholes with a shitload of corporate money who want to take over the world for no discernible reason and the bunch of assholes with a shitload of government money who want to stop them. There are also nanobots. The worst part of G.I. Joe is how forgettable it is, even during the viewing. Fun drinking game: every time Falk asks any variation of "Wait...is that Sienna Miller?" take a drink.
Milner, Bear, Mike, and Adam were prepared to enlist in a poor strategic cover from gunfire, mind-wiped building contractors, and ice not floating on water. If you have a comment or question you can write us at theaftershowpodcast@gmail.com or call and leave a voicemail message at (206) 984-1298.
