On March 31, 1975, the UCLA Bruins beat the Kentucky Wildcats 92-85 for the 10th and final championship under the legendary Wizard of Westwood, John Wooden. The greatest collegiate coach in U.S. history retired after his team's 7-point win at the Sports Arena in San Diego. UCLA was the best in college basketball in 1964, 1965, 1967, 1968, 1969, 1970, 1971, 1972, 1973 & 1975. An astonishing 10 titles in 12 years! Nothing in major collegiate sports compares to the dominance of what Wooden accomplished in his final dozen years in Westwood. A week later, Steve Garvey was on the April 7, 1975 issue of SI, but the story that captivated the sports world was the final game of Wooden's time at UCLA. The end of an era that will never be replicated… and he went out a champion. Now in retirement at the age of 64, Wooden retreated to his home and continued to be a mentor to the many players who played for him at UCLA, notably, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Bill Walton, Lucius Allen, Larry Farmer and countless others. His beloved wife Nell passed in 1985 and Coach fell into a deep funk. His children were deeply worried about the mental anguish the widowed Wooden was enduring with the passing of his wife after 53 years of marriage. Gradually he came out of it with the help of his family, friends, and players who visited with him regularly. One of those who saw Coach Wooden on a regular basis for home visits was his podiatrist, Dr. Michael Levi. Michael would come often to check on the now 80+ year old Coach Wooden and the two soon became more than just a doctor-patient relationship. They would often have breakfast together and talk about family, life, baseball, God, books and any other topic that Wooden found interesting… which was everything. Michael would return home and write down everything that had taken place upon his visit with Coach… and in 2016, 6 years after Coach Wooden was laid to rest at the age of 99, Levi published a book with the help of former L.A. times writer Larry Stewart called, “Wednesdays with Wooden.” Levi talks about how he went to a camp as a 6-year old and saw Wooden for the first time and how is father idolized the legendary Bruins coach. He tells us on the Past Our Prime podcast how he and Wooden became friends over their time together and how he was able to give his father the best birthday gift ever… lunch with Coach Wooden. Levi tells us about the depression that felled the Coach after the death of Nell and what brought him out of it and how the phone never stopped ringing at Coach Wooden's house with players calling to check up on him constantly throughout the day…. Every day… It's an intimate and personal look at the most successful college coach in NCAA history from a man who checked on Wooden's feet, and ended up getting a piece of his heart. When he was 7 years old, a friend's father was in the entertainment business. Hanging out at rehearsals and on the tour buses sold Matt on the idea of being a musician, or at the very least, a drummer. All this lead to spending his high school years at Fort Hayes vocational school for music and Capital University Conservatory of Music for college studying under drum instructor Bob Breithaupt. The musical diversity in Columbus gave Matt the chance to play with many great players and learning many different styles – from Big Band (Vaughn Weister's Famous Jazz Orchestra) and Brazilian to Afro-Cuban and Fusion. All the while, he was doing his share of gigs with original rock bands and top 40 bands. Matt moved to Nashville in the summer of 1999. Working as a freelance drummer based in Nashville has taken him to all 50 states in the U.S. and most of Canada, as well as overseas to Europe, Asia, The Middle East and The Caribbean. As well as the Grand Ole Opry in Nashville, Matt has performed in great local venues like the Ryman Auditorium, Mercy Lounge, 3rd and Lindsley, The 5 Spot, The Sutler, The Basement, The Wildhorse Saloon, and many clubs on lower Broadway. Matt has toured both regionally and nationally, with the Adam and Shannon Wright, Mark Selby, Eddy Raven, Billy Dean, Stephen Simmons, Three Lane, Whiskey Cash & Roses, Michelle Wright - (throughout Canada), Julie Roberts, and The Frontmen of Country which is Larry Stewart of Restless Heart, Richie McDonald of Lonestar, Tim Rushlow of Little Texas. From 2009 to 2017 Matt was the full time drummer for the band Savannah Jack. He played percussion on their first studio record in 2010 opposite Steve Ferrone on drums. For their second studio record in 2015, Matt was the drumset and percussion player in the studio. In the studio, Matt has had the pleasure of working with talented producers including Eric Fritsch, Teddy Morgan, Jim Reilley and Brent Maher. Artist he's recorded with in the studio have included Sheryl Crow, legendary songwriter Buzz Cason and actor Kevin Costner. In 2015, Matt started a podcast for drummers called "Working Drummer", an interview based podcast that maintains a focus on the drummer that makes a living at his or her craft. Along with the help of co-host Zack Albetta, the podcast has a growing audience throughout the world with more listeners every week. www.workingdrummer.net *******SUBSCRIBE/RATE/REVIEW!!! www.richredmond.com/listen The Rich Redmond Show is about all things music, motivation and success. SERIES 3 EPISODE 43: COUNTDOWN WITH KEITH OLBERMANN A-Block (1:44) SPECIAL COMMENT: It is time to cancel or suspend all of Elon Musk's government contracts and subsidies. SpaceX, NASA, StarLink, Teslas, all of it. Musk and Trump are interfering in FEMA recovery efforts post-Hurricane Helene by spreading life-threatening disinformation, and are coordinating a political campaign with Trump which at its heart Trump advocates for the overthrow of the duly-elected government of the United States of America – by violence if necessary. And if all of that is insufficient to re-investigate and/or change his immigration status here in order to deport him back to South Africa or Canada, if it is insufficient to take ALL of his money from him, it is NOT insufficient to tie him up in court cases for the rest of his life. He's also immorally transforming the Twitter-X platform he owns into a massive donation-in-kind to Trump's campaign of lies, antisemitism, Islamophobia, misogyny, hatred, and fascism. A donation-in-kind which the government should value at 44 billion, not the current number Musk has driven it down to which I haven't actually checked lately but is probably down to about 50, 60 bucks. Oh and President Biden? The Starlink equipment and the network behind it and the rockets and the satellite access and the actual platform hosting X or what's left of it? Seize it. If he wants it back, let him go to court. If he tries to shut it off, arrest him for tampering with evidence in a criminal case. Remember: Presidential immuuuuuuuuuuuunity! By the way his buddy Trump? Trump doesn't know what Starlink is. TRUMP IS SO GONE EVEN THE NEW YORK TIMES NOTICED: "Trump's Speeches, Increasingly Angry and Rambling, Reignite the Question of Age." They gingerly refer to computer analyses and the uncertainties of others, but given the number of other news outlets that think the Times is infallible, this could open a floodgate of coverage. NOT THAT EVERYBODY GETS IT: Andrea Mitchell stopped herself midway through finishing the word "miscegenation" while whining about Vice President Harris not doing enough interviews. Politico thinks 60 Minutes, an Univision Town Hall, Howard Stern, and especially the "Call Her Daddy" podcast aren't real interviews. It also implied Harris shouldn't be appearing on a podcast that has included sexual content. That's pretty funny given that the editor of Politico Playbook - once fired by The New Yorker over sexual misconduct, is now on leave, accused of trying to blackmail his fiancee into more sex and when she refused, hacking her phone and leaking her sex life. So Politico, does "Call Her Daddy" have too MUCH sex, or just not as much as "Politico Playbook"? B-Block (26:16) SPECIAL COMMENT NUMBER 2: Did "working the refs" work with The New York Times? Did all our complaining finally pierce the walls of the paper? Let me tell you a story from my past in which years of complaining to the Los Angeles Times not only got my complaint listened to, but corrected - and with the admission that the editor in charge never read anything written by the guy I was complaining about. C-Block (43:40) GOOD NIGHT AND GOOD LUCK.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
Though Larry Stewart was exposed to music early on, it was sports that initially captured his attention. After receiving a baseball scholarship to Nashville's Belmont College, Larry, whose father had passed away from a heart condition, found music as a way to close the gap he was feeling without his dad.“In some ways, I moved to Nashville to live out my father's dream,” admits Larry Stewart of what was to become his musical destiny. “When I got here, there were all kinds of people who valued musical talent–and I found myself slowly fitting into the music business.”“The way I act is very normal. I just do what I do and let it go at that,” explains the soft-spoken vocalist. “It comes from growing up in a small town where the people respected each other and looked after each other. The values I learned there pretty much shape the way I look at the world around me.“I had a pretty basic childhood. My parents loved me and I was around music from the first day I remember. My dad was a great singer and as I got older, I played piano for him, but I also played a lot of sports. They gave me support with whatever I did. They taught me lessons and gave me the tools to seek my dreams.”“Being in Restless Heart showed me how powerful music can be,” Stewart says, defining his motivations. “I always knew how much it moved me–and there I saw it did the same thing to other people. To me, you need to sing songs for more than yourself. Making records is a privilege. I think you need to find songs that might give people a little insight into their own lives. Or give them words they may not have to tell the people they care for how they're feeling.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/success-made-to-last-legends--4302039/support.

Premature baby Levi Slayton was taken to the doctor a few days after birth for breathing difficulties and rising bilirubin levels, which can indicate elevated red blood cell destruction and a possible infection. The doctor was negligent and failed to admit the baby to the hospital to monitor his bilirubin levels in an environment that could respond quickly. Returning home, the baby stopped breathing while being breastfed and suffered such significant brain damage from a lack of oxygen that life-support was not recommended. Levi only lived for six days. The jury assigned 100% responsibility for the baby's death to the doctor, returning a verdict of $3,373,000. Guest Bio: Gary Fox For the past 39 years, Gary Fox has devoted his practice exclusively to the trial of civil cases in Florida. He specializes in the trial of medical malpractice, products liability and wrongful death cases. Gary graduated from the University of Florida School of Law in 1976, where he was an editor of the law review and member of the National Moot Court Board. After graduation, he went to work for the firm known as Frates Floyd Pearson Stewart Richman & Greer. He became a partner at the firm and in 1984 left to open his own firm with Larry Stewart, Jim Tilghman and David Bianchi, where he has remained since. Gary is a member of the Inner Circle of Advocates, the most selective group of trial lawyers in the United States. The Inner Circle is an invitation-only group limited to the top 100 plaintiffs' trial attorneys in America. Stewart Tilghman Fox Bianchi & Cain is the only law firm in Florida with two members in The Inner Circle. Gary was selected as the Trial Lawyer of the Year by the American Board of Trial Advocates, Florida Chapters, an organization also known as FLABOTA. The American Board of Trial Advocates is an invitation-only group of trial lawyers evenly divided between attorneys who represent plaintiffs and those who represent insurance companies, manufacturers, health care providers, and other defendants. Seven years after graduation, he became board certified as a civil trial lawyer by the Florida Bar and the following year he was certified in the same specialty by the National Board of Trial Advocacy. Gary was elected President of the Miami Chapter of ABOTA in 1992 and was elected President of the statewide ABOTA organization (FLABOTA) in 1990. In 2004 he was selected for inclusion in the International Society of Barristers, another invitation-only group of trial lawyers that is limited to 600 members worldwide. Gary represented Terri and Michael Schiavo in the medical malpractice trial arising out of the events that led to Terri's coma. The jury returned a substantial verdict for Terri and Michael and the proceeds of that recovery led to the rift between Michael and Terri's family and international publicity that followed. In addition, Gary has represented boxing champion Floyd Mayweather, Hall of Fame baseball player Eddie Mathews and All-Pro NFL cornerback Samari Rolle. Gary and Stephen Cain tried to verdict Mr. Rolle's case in Charlotte, North Carolina. The jury returned a verdict in Mr. Rolle's favor. It was the first time in 12 years a jury in Charlotte had returned a verdict for a patient in a medical malpractice case. Gary also represented Jane Doe, a rape victim, in the case against Carnival Cruise Lines that became the subject of national publicity when Carnival was required by court order to disclose the data surrounding the number of sexual assaults occurring aboard its ships. In 1989, a critically-acclaimed newcomer to the country music fold, Sammy Sadler, had already charted several successful singles and was ready to release his first album on Evergreen Records when he was caught up in the assassination of then Cash Box chart-manager, Kevin Hughes, and a payola scandal that would bring down the magazine and rock the music industry.Despite suffering a near-fatal gunshot wound that would require multiple surgeries to repair, Sadler remained under suspicion until the murder was solved thirteen long years later - by then, his career was dead, as well.In March 9, 2004, Sadler attempted to reboot his career, releasing Hard On A Heart on the Tri label. The title track placed in the top-10 on the Texas Music Chart and went No. 1 in Europe for seven weeks but produced lackluster results in the states. In 2009, Sadler released another album, Heart Shaped Like Texas on Audium Records, which transitioned to Koch Records and eventually sold to E1 Music. Despite rave reviews for singles "I'll Always Have Denver," and "No Place to Land," E1 Music ultimately closed and Sadler's recording career ended. Since that time, Sammy continued to play to fans with two successful tours-one with Doug Stone in 2012, and the other lasting from 2015-2016 with Ken Mellons and Jeff Carson called the "Taking the Country Back Tour."Record promoter Chuck Dixon, who was suspected of ordering the hit against Hughes, was reported to have died mysteriously in 2013, and triggerman Richard D'Antonio would die in prison in 2014. The passing of both provided a newly found confidence to Sadler, who had spent years looking over his shoulder as a result of PTSD.In 2021 Sammy released his highly acclaimed album 1989 produced by Buddy Hyatt, which featured duets with country hitmakers T. Graham Brown, Marty Rabon and Larry Stewart. Sammy's reemergence was featured in exclusives with People Magazine and Newsmax. Sadler was also featured and shared his new music and story of personal triumph with WSMV's Today In Nashville, Fox 17's "Rock n' Review" and The Dr. Ward Bond Show.Sammy's new album will be tentatively released in 2024. The single, Louisiana Rain, was released in May of 2022. His latest single, Everything's Gonna Be Alright, was released in February 2023.Sammy's story is far from over, in fact, it's still being written.Support the show

Larry Stewart became a personal injury lawyer in Miami in the early 1960’s. It was a time when the longevity of the then-fledgling profession was in doubt. He took “show & tell” presentations before a jury to a whole new level, in one of the first automobile crashworthiness cases in the country. But he’s perhaps best known as the founder of Trial Lawyers Care, the national AAJ pro bono program that began for victims of the September 11th terrorist attacks. He is a past president of both the American Association for Justice and the Florida Justice Association and a winner of the FJA’s top awards, including the Al J. Cone Lifetime Achievement Award and the Perry Nichols Award - the FJA’s most prestigious. It’s given to a person whose perseverance, commitment, and unmatched dedication to the civil justice system is at the forefront of his or her life. Now retired, he’s working on a book on the history of the FJA in its first 50 years. Larry Stewart sat down with Florida Justice Association Radio host Harvey Bennett in late January 2021 to share his advice on how to innovate – including finding and taking advantage of the “little gems” in a case - and the one thing he believes is most important for a trial lawyer to have. The Titans of Trial podcast, sponsored by the Florida Justice Association Research and Education Foundation, features Florida’s legendary trial attorneys revealing their keys to success – in law practice and in personal life – in their own words. Behind the sometimes tough courtroom veneer lies the heart of a champion advocate. Sometimes whimsical, often inspirational, but always with practical advice and lessons, Titans of Trial shares the personal stories of the men and women who’ve made a demonstrated difference to the practice of trial law in Florida.

This week we revisit comedian Jeff Blanchard. For those of you who may have missed him the first time we suggest you not make that mistake again. Another fun, informative, and entertaining week on The Approach Shot Podcast.

We continue in our mini-series from Ephesians 4 about “Living It Out” – this week we consider our work. How does the Gospel transform our occupations, from mundane daily tasks to our overall sense of vocation? Certainly, grace means we rely on the work Christ has done, yet it does not make our work unnecessary or meaningless. So why does our work so often feel like a curse, even as we yearn for it to be a joy? Why do so many of us look to our work to derive our sense of significance? How could God redeem it instead to be a joyful offering? Let's talk about God's design for our work. Discussion Questions Even the guy who is at the top of his game is hoping there's more than this. What is YOUR reaction to HIS reaction to his success? Does this temper your ambitions, hopes, and aspirations at all? What are those goals and aspirations? What work is not You want to work. You need to work. Do you agree with this? What are you trying to do in life? Where are the pinch points and holdbacks? Why aren't you hitting the marks you're going for, to a satisfying level? …or maybe you are hitting those marks and you think you've arrived? Is it time to stop and collect seashells? To what degree has your work - whatever you do to make life ‘go' most days of the week - become your identity? Is this a bad thing, a prison, or a problem? Do you accept all of this talk about identity as it relates to one's work, or do you have a hard time seeing it? Read Jeremiah 45:5 and talk about your own sense of ambition. Most atheists are operating from a world view that says all of life is meaningless and insignificant – from beginning to end. If you disagree with the atheists' position, then what is the purpose of life? Is that purpose unique to each individual to create or discover, or is there a purpose that is common to all of us? How does your work fit into this explanation; interwoven or unrelated? What work is Meaningful work has the potential to remake and rehumanize us. How so – in what sense? What's been your most satisfying season of work until now, or a completed project that you wish you could do again and again, despite all of the labor and toil? Was financial profit the goal and the win? The fruit of your work is meant to be shared with those in need. Did you resonate with this part of the sermon? How does this color or affect your line of work? Do you see a connection? So what In our verse, Paul knows there are thieves! Who is he talking about; pick-pockets and people stealing out of the offering? In what sense can any of us be one of these thieves? Is there a season or moment in your life when this verse was talking about you? Larry Stewart from Lee Summit, Missouri became a Secret Santa. Retell what you remember of his story and how it inspired you, specifically? We all know the sentiment to “pay it forward.” But how is the message here in our verse and sermon more than just a feel-good moment? How is any of this different and enduring for followers of Jesus? Gospel: God is in the dirt with you, making something out of nothing. Our work is an echo of what Jesus has done for us. The cross is the center-piece, which has given us immeasurable value; not only paying off our debt, but the cross empowers us to work now for others' gain. So, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God. 1 Corinthians 10:31

Episode 044: Gary Fox │Slayton v. Professional Park Pediatrics, P.A., Pediatrics of Timberlane, P.A., and Penrod, M.D.│ $3.373 million verdict This week, your hosts Steve Lowry and Yvonne Godfrey interview Gary Fox of Stewart Tilghman Fox Bianchi & Cain, P.A ( https://www.stfblaw.com) Remember to rate and review GTP in iTunes: Click Here To Rate and Review Case Details: Inner Circle of Advocates attorney Gary Fox shares how a medical malpractice case was mistried twice before resulting in Leon County, Florida's first verdict in 17 years in favor of a patient against a physician. Gordon Kennedy - Episode 1 Show Notes:I sat down with hit songwriter, producer and musician Gordon Kennedy to discuss his successful career, the ups and downs of the music business and how taking a series of one steps can lead to a great career in the music industry.Sponsors: Edenbrooke Productions - We offer consulting services and are offering listeners a 1-hour introductory special. To request more info on consulting services, email Marty at contact@johnmartinkeith.com.Gordon Kennedy’s social media links:www.gordonkennedymusic.comwww.facebook.com/gordonkennedymusicTalking Points:* I think we're supposed to pray about and do our due diligence and get a peace about what's the next one step to take. Then when you take the one step, guess what you do? We do the same thing again.* Just one step is all that matters and don't get too bent out of shape over long-term plan.* Gordon has been building industry relationships since high school.* “Change The World” took years to write in small amounts between multiple writers. Once it became a single for the soundtrack, then that event caused me and Wayne [Kirkpatrick] and Tommy [Sims] to start getting calls from people about "would you write us a song?" "Would you do one for Bonnie Raitt?", etc.* For some it doesn't make sense to do a publishing deal these days because publishing companies can't really pay. In fact they're embarrassed to offer what they're able to offer these days to a seasoned writer. * If people don't buy music, then you see the these draws (advances) that publishing companies give writers diminish to the point where they'd rather not offer a deal than offer the kind of deal they can these days.* Income streams for songwriters and publishers in performance royalties is still there.* Mechanical royalties (CD sales, etc) has pretty much vanished.* You have an advantage if you're an artist because a publisher can see an artist as being somebody that is going to bring them recorded songs rather than songs they have to go hit the sidewalks to pitch to try to get recorded.* Single steps lead to these other things.* Advantages of a publishing deal - someone to connect your songs to major artists.* Advantages of being self published - getting more money when a song is cut.* Tip Sheet - an industry form for publishers and song pluggers that list artists going in the studio and types of songs they are looking for.* Gordon has been a live player, a session player, a producer, a published writer, a self-published writer. * This is a calling that is on my life.* God doesn't call the equipped, God equips the called.* I’ve tried the best I can to let priorities shape my goals rather than the other way around. A lot of times if your goal is to be a star, then your priorities can suffer as far as how you're going to be a husband, how you're going to be a father. They have to get in line behind these priorities, otherwise I'm not interested in that particular goal if I have to leave my family for weeks and weeks on end and be gone to achieve this goal, I'm not interested in that goal anymore.* If you're getting called a bunch for something, pay attention to what that might be and maybe that's something you should investigate.* Ricky Skaggs talks about God wanting us to study on and think about what the next one step is. Pray about that and when you get a peace about it, take that one step and then do the same thing again.* You’re writing your personal story right now. Be aware of that. Do the work now, don't put it off.Links:* Podcast Facebook* Podcast You Tube* John Martin Keith Instagram* John Martin Keith Twitter Gordon Kennedy - BIOGordon Kennedy is a multi-Grammy Award winning songwriter and record producer, a virtuoso guitarist, and a music industry visionary in Nashville. With his love for storytelling, vintage guitars and his deep knowledge of music history, he has emerged as one of Music City’s most beloved Ambassadors. Kennedy’s live shows are a treasure trove of colorful backstories and outstanding performances that one only as talented and immersed in rich experiences can truly deliver. He came by it honestly as the son of legendary guitarist, Jerry Kennedy.Kennedy sites his guitar pickin’, record producing dad and his singing mom, Linda Brannon, as his biggest musical influences. “While other families might gather around the TV to enjoy time together,” Kennedy recalls, “we gathered around a tape machine. My dad would come home every night and bring us new music that he had just recorded. My brothers Bryan, Shelby and I couldn’t wait to hear from Roger Miller, Bob Dylan, Roy Orbison, The Statler Brothers or Jerry Lee Lewis.” The Meet the Beatles album his dad gave him when he was five, and more records from his father’s days as an executive of the Mercury Records office of Nashville, provided him with a diverse diet of music. This, along with a basement full of his father’s guitars, a jukebox and a piano, nourished and inspired him as he became one of music’s finest songwriters, producers and players.Kennedy’s most successful composition is the international hit song Change The World recorded by Eric Clapton for which Kennedy and his co-writers received a Grammy Award for Song of the Year in 1996. The song won Record of the Year for Eric Clapton, and spent a record breaking 81 weeks on the top of the charts. In 2007 Kennedy also received a Grammy Award for Best Pop Instrumental Album, co-producing, composing and performing on Peter Frampton’s Fingerprints album. Bluegrass Legend Ricky Skaggs’s Grammy nominated Mosaic, released in 2010, was produced and co-written mostly by Kennedy. It was a career bending recording that was a departure from Skaggs’s bluegrass records. Skaggs called in Kennedy to produce after hearing his song demos. He wanted to recreate the Beatle-esqe musicality that Kennedy captures on the record. In his early career, Kennedy was a member of the Christian Rock band White Heart for six years in the 1980s. His substituting on a few shows for high school friend Dan Huff ultimately led to a permanent position as the band’s lead guitar player and songwriter. Huff became a successful record producer and would later hire Kennedy to play on many records that became gold and platinum recordings. Kennedy played on Reba McEntire’s first #1 hit, Can’t Even Get The Blues in 1975 while a young student at Belmont University.Kennedy recalls that songwriting began to click for him in 1991 when he began co-writing with his friend, Wayne Kirkpatrick. Dogs of Peace formed in 1995. Their first album, Speak, was released in 1996. Twenty years later, in 2016, Kennedy, Jimmie Sloas, Blair Masters, John Hammond and Jeff Balding reunited for a second album called Heel. Kennedy, Kirkpatrick and Tommy Sims would later join forces in co-writing one of the biggest chart topping hits of their generation, Change The World. Kennedy not only received a Grammy for Song of the Year in 1996, but in 2002 a plaque on the Record Walk of Fame. In June 1997, the Southern Songwriters Guild inducted Gordon into the Songwriters Hall Of Fame in a ceremony in Louisiana. As a songwriter, Kennedy has written 15 songs recorded by Garth Brooks. Kennedy co-wrote You Move Me recorded by Garth Brooks which reached #2 on the Billboard Country Airplay Chart in 1998. Brooks subsequently recorded ten more of Kennedy's songs on his alter-ego album, The Life of Chris Gaines, which reached No. 2 on the Billboard 200 chart. Kennedy will join Garth Brooks 2019 Stadium Tour on guitar. “Garth and I have been friends for many years. It’s a great honor to be asked to tour with him and the other fine musicians that will be a part of the band.” It’s a feather in the cap of a successful career for Kennedy to accompany his friend Garth on this legendary tour. “It’s not just anyone I’d leave my family, the comfort of my home and my studio to hit the road with, but Garth’s an exception.”Bonnie Raitt has said that Gordon Kennedy is “one of her favorite songwriters.” It’s no surprise then, that four of her five recent singles have been Kennedy compositions. Kennedy's songs have also been recorded by artists including Alison Krauss, Stevie Nicks, Faith Hill, Don Henley, Tim McGraw, and Carrie Underwood. His compositions have been heard in the film soundtracks of Tin Cup, Phenomenon, For the Love of the Game, Where the Heart Is, Almost Famous, Summer Catch, Someone Like You, The Banger Sisters, Instant Family, and Disney’s The Fox & the Hound 2.He has lent his talents as a player to Don Henley, Kenny Loggins, Reba McEntire, Michael McDonald, Leanne Rimes, Bruce Hornsby, Little Big Town and Shedaisy, among others.Seals and Crofts 2, the Beatles cover band Mystery Trip, and Tom Petty cover band The Petty Junkies are current projects Kennedy enjoys. He recently produced Shifting Gears, the new solo project of his longtime friend Larry Stewart of Restless Heart. As a Belmont University alumnus, Gordon has been recognized as a Morris Family Mentor & Lecture Series, Curb College Distinguished Lecturer, and in 2014 received the Curb College’s Robert E. Mulloy Award of Excellence. Kennedy currently serves on the Belmont University Advisory Board, and has served on the Board of Governors for the Nashville’s National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences.Kennedy has continually given to Belmont and its students for years. He has spoken at seminars, hosted events (including Belmont’s Homecoming concert, Homecoming in the Round), is an adjunct professor, and a student mentor. Gordon is the fifth and final recipient of the Distinguished Lecturer, an honor given to industry professionals who inspire others through their work in the entertainment and music industry. In addition, Gordon served on Brentwood Academy’s Board of Trustees from 2007-2010 where he and his two children are graduates and remain active alumni.

Chris Searcy grew up in trial practice in Miami, hanging around legendary lawyers such as Bill Frates, Larry Stewart, Bill Coleson, Bill Hicks, and J.B Spence, to name but a few. As a young law student at Stetson University in 1972, he became involved with the predecessor of the Florida Justice Association, the Academy of Florida Trial Lawyers, at an early age, attending seminars and getting early career guidance. And boy what a career he’s had, becoming one of today’s legendary trial lawyers. Chris Searcy is a member of the Inner Circle of Advocates, an invitation-only group of 100 lawyers. He has been honored with the Al J. Cone Award for lifetime achievement and the Perry Nichols Award, this association’s highest honor. He is a past president of the Florida Justice Association, and the association’s seminar on Voir Dire bears his name. But it was the two terrible personal tragedies in his life that caused him to gravitate to representing clients in death cases and is ultimately the passion that fuels his great success as a champion advocate. Chris Searcy sat down with Florida Justice Association Radio host Harvey Bennett in July 2018 to talk about his special connection to personal injury law, his advice to rising lawyers seeking lead trial time, and the fine line between hating to lose and being afraid to lose a case. Show Notes: Chris Searcy is with the Searcy Denney Scarola Barnhart & Shipley law firm in West Palm Beach, Florida – www.searcylaw.com Resources Mentioned in this Podcast: Visit the Florida Justice Association Podcast Webpage for full details and extras on this podcast.
Restless Heart lead singer Larry Stewart can remember the exact moment and place his life began to change forever. “I was driving east on I-40 from West Nashville into town to an appointment,” he recalls. “Back then, I was listening to what we were doing in my Jeep Cherokee every day. I had turned the radio on, and ‘Let The Heartache Ride’ was right in the middle of the acapella intro.” Stewart had been living with the song for a while, and hearing it through his car speakers wasn’t that big of a deal – until he looked at the stereo and saw the numbers 97.9. “It didn’t sink in because I had it in the tape deck for days, then I realized ‘That’s the radio. It’s WSIX.’ I pulled over on the shoulder around White Bridge Road and sat there with my car idling. It was like yesterday.” ‘Yesterday’ has come full circle for Restless Heart. Then one of Nashville’s newest acts, the band is celebrating their 30th Anniversary in 2013, and Dave Innis enjoys the musical ride as much as ever. “I think it’s been an amazing legacy, and it’s been such an honor to have been part of an organization that is still together doing it after thirty years with the same five original guys, and it’s more fun than ever.” John Dittrich, Greg Jennings, Paul Gregg, Dave Innis, and Larry Stewart – the men who make up Restless Heart have enjoyed one of the most successful careers in Country Music history, placing over 25 singles on the charts – with six consecutive #1 hits, four of their albums have been certified Gold by the RIAA, and they have won a wide range of awards from many organizations – including the Academy of Country Music’s Top Vocal Group trophy. Those stats aside, Innis feels that their career goes much deeper than that. “In the past few years, we have really started to branch out in the community, particularly our work with the Nashville Rescue Mission. We have hosted an event called Restless Heart & Friends – Music With A Mission that we do at the Schermerhorn Center with the Nashville Symphony. We invite a lot of our friends in the industry across all genres to join us, and all of the money we raise goes to the Nashville Rescue Mission. The other thing that stands out is the tours we have done in support of the men and women of the Armed Forces. We did some tours with the Air Force, going all over the world.” Those audiences have sung along with their record-shattering string of hits, such as “I’ll Still Be Loving You,” “Fast Movin’ Train” and “When She Cries.” Stewart says it’s humbling to know Restless Heart has made an impact. “I’m proud of the fact that we get to hear stories from young artists and musicians that we might have made an impression or inspiring them to come to town – having number one records, and hearing the stories of what they meant to people. To know that you have been a part of something that made a difference, the power of music, the power of a song. To be a part of something that made a mark. However big or small of a mark Restless Heart made, it’s still a mark. To be able to appreciate and feel blessed that we got lucky enough to get together. I feel like it was something that was meant to be.” And, the story is far from over, as Stewart says Restless Heart still has a lot of history to make. “We are still at the top of our game when it comes to singing and playing together. We’ve got some projects we’re working on, and we want to put the Restless Heart brand out to music fans again – to let them know we’re still here and making good music. We’re really looking forward, not trying to rest on our past laurels, we really want to do some new music. We have some fun things we’re considering to celebrate the moment, which we’re trying to put together, and reintroduce ourselves to the world, and take another stab at something.” www.throwbackcountrymusicpodcast.com Please help and hit the subscribe the button.
