And, though it's not the first time we've heard such warnings, WSJ investing columnist Spencer Jakab joins to discuss why this time they're worth listening to. Plus, Elon Musk criticizes President Trump's tax-and-spending bill, calling it a “disgusting abomination.” And the White House sends a $9.4 billion rescissions package to Congress codifying cuts identified by Musk's Department of Government Efficiency. WSJ reporter Jasmine Li talks about what the package includes, and the president's broader goal behind it. Alex Ossola hosts. Sign up for the WSJ's free What's News newsletter. Bryan Young had the chance to talk to Tony Gilroy about Star Wars: Andor Season 2 for Script Magazine on two occasions, here are those interviews for your listening pleasure.
Gio was in the news yesterday for calling Karl-Anthony Towns a ‘loser'. Carl Banks went after Gio for the take. He wasn't talking about KAT the individual, he was referring to KAT the Knicks player in the playoffs. Gio said Banks is not very good at media and that was evident yesterday. We talked about KAT's performance in the playoffs and why he was brought in. He had soft moments in big games where they should have gotten more out of him.
We took more calls on KAT and his inconsistency as a player.
Boomer said if the Knicks were in the finals it would get good ratings because people would watch to root against them. We talked about two smaller market teams being in the finals with Indiana and OKC. We talked about the lack of great nicknames in sports now, a discussion he heard talked about during a Barstool golf event.
Boomer speculated the Knicks would draw high Finals ratings even if people rooted against them, contrasting with smaller markets like Indiana and OKC. We then lamented the decline of memorable sports nicknames. The conversation returned to KAT's playoff performance. Jerry's final update covered the Mets' ten-inning win over the Dodgers, featuring Lindor's leadoff homer, and previewed the Yankees-Guardians series. Other news included Russell Wilson on Malik Nabers joining the Giants, Saquon Barkley addressing the Madden curse, and Mike Francesa's dieting advice. The "Moment of the Day" highlighted David Andrews' rocky retirement speech. The segment concluded with the arrest of an "overseas sports bettor" who threatened Lance McCullers Jr.'s family, sparking a discussion about A-I and "Bad Tiki."
The hour began with a discussion of Gio's comments calling Karl-Anthony Towns a "loser," a criticism aimed at his playing style not fitting the Knicks' championship aspirations. Jerry's update covered the Mets' ten-inning victory over the Dodgers, highlighted by Lindor's leadoff home run and RBI single. Charles Barkley's confusing move from TNT to ESPN was also discussed. The segment concluded with Boomer introducing his new twin grandsons and further calls about KAT's inconsistent performance.
The conversation began with a nostalgic look at Neptunes, a spot Boomer frequented with his Jets players, and a humorous aside about whether Eddie will cry upon retirement. Larry in Indiana pledged support for Gio in a hypothetical fight with Carl Banks. Jerry's update highlighted the Mets' victory over the Dodgers, with Lindor's leadoff home run and RBI single, though Vientos sustained a hamstring injury. Positive news from Giants camp was tempered by Boomer's reminder that game performance is paramount. Deion Sanders addressed Shedeur's draft rumors, and Bill Simmons expressed frustration with Pablo Torre's coverage of Bill Belichick. The hour concluded with Peter Schwartz discussing his resignation as GM of an arena football team that notably lacked helmets.
Hour 1 Gio stirred controversy by calling Karl-Anthony Towns a "loser" in reference to his playoff performance with the Knicks, drawing criticism from Carl Banks, whom Gio dismissed as poor in media. The discussion also covered KAT's inconsistent playoff play and the Mets' 4-3 ten-inning victory over the Dodgers, featuring another Lindor leadoff home run. Other sports news included the Angels' historic three-homer first inning at Fenway, the retirement of the Lions and Patriots centers, and Aaron Judge's inability to leave his hotel due to fan mobs, prompting Boomer to reflect on the impact of phone cameras on athlete privacy. Hour 2 The conversation began with a nostalgic look at Neptunes, a spot Boomer frequented with his Jets players, and a humorous aside about whether Eddie will cry upon retirement. Larry in Indiana pledged support for Gio in a hypothetical fight with Carl Banks. We talked about the Nets fans at the station who were celebrating the Knicks loss.
Hour 1 After the Knicks' season ended, Boomer and Gio debated why Knicks fans are "most hated." Gio blamed celebrity fans and celebrating wins, not championships, plus general New York disdain. Boomer criticized the Knicks' defense and Jalen Brunson's recent performance, calling Karl-Anthony Towns "soft" for lazy defense. Boomer remains a Thibs supporter, while Gio called KAT a "loser." Jerry's update included post-game sound from the Knicks loss, Jalen Brunson's comments on Thibs, Yankees and Mets highlights (including Ben Rice and Pete Alonso homers), and Pat McAfee telling John Mellencamp to "shut the f**k up." Hour 2 Boomer graded Knicks players and took calls from fans debating Thibs and KAT. Jerry updated on the Knicks' post-game reactions, including player comments. In other sports, the Yankees beat the Dodgers with a Ben Rice homer, though Jasson Dominguez injured his thumb. The Mets swept the Rockies, with Juan Soto having a great weekend. Finally, the discussion touched on Stefon Diggs and the fact that Bill Belichick's buyout is now $1 million as of June 1st. Hour 3 Boomer announced the birth of his twin grandsons, Twin A and Twin B, with names still unrevealed, which Gio found strange. The discussion then shifted to Knicks fans debating Gio's harsh criticism of Karl-Anthony Towns. Jerry's update covered KAT's disappointment and the final NBA on TNT broadcast. In other sports, the Yankees beat the Dodgers, with DJ LeMahieu going 4-for-5, and the Mets swept the Rockies, featuring a Francisco Lindor home run. The hour concluded with Mike Francesa discussing a granola bar on his podcast, Boomer questioning why former WFAN hosts are still active, and a caller asking about acquiring Giannis Antetokounmpo. Hour 4 Eddie wore his Hawaii Rainbows shirt for Pride Month, prompting discussion on East Coast kids attending Hawaiian schools and the lack of Knicks fan destruction after their recent loss. Boomer's Haliburton jersey in the freezer was brought up, as were Nets fans celebrating the Knicks' defeat. Kevin Garnett and Paul Pierce compared the Knicks to "the Cowboys of the NBA." In other sports, the Yankees beat the Dodgers (DJ LeMahieu 4-for-5, Ben Rice homer) and the Mets swept the Rockies (Pete Alonso homer). The "Moment of The Day" was Gary Cohen's "Chew it and do it," and the segment concluded with more Knicks season-ending talk and curiosity about Larry David's presence at Josh Allen's wedding.
From 'Baseball Isn't Boring' (subscribe here): One year ago, the Mets were still considered a lost cause, having just executed a last-gasp team meeting to try and save their season. Next thing they knew, June served as a launching pad and an incredible season was reborn. Laura Albanese joined Bradfo to reflect on the turnaround, while also diving into her new existence as Mets beat writer for Newsday. There is also some great podcast talk.
