I loved speaking with this week's guest because I've been following her on Instagram for quite some time now. In this episode I catch up with Nichole Dandrea-Russert. You may know her better by her online persona through Instagram @purley__planted. Nichole is a dietician and nutritionist that specializes in plant-based nutrition. She's been plant-based herself for about a decade and has seen the positive impact that it can have on a person's body.Since starting this podcast back in 2020 I've spoken with many people who discuss the good things that come from eating a plant-based diet. I've definitely worked more plants into my diet in the last few years and I've given up things like dairy in the process. It's amazing what some simple diet changes can do to your overall health. In this conversation we primarily discuss her new book titled 'The Vegan Athlete's Nutrition Handbook: The Essential Guide For Plant-Based Performance.' We also discuss our mutual admiration for Dotsie Bausch, the death threats I received when I told people about the negatives of dairy, how important magnesium is and other things. I hope you enjoy our conversation and that you check out her book!

Welcome to Episode of 71 of the Eat for Endurance Podcast, featuring pro-runner, coach, and plant-based athlete, Sage Canaday. Sage has been running for over 20 years, and is known for his “any surface any distance” motto. He started out his professional career on the roads, and is a 2-time US Olympic Trials qualifier in the Marathon and a top 20 overall finisher at both the Boston and Chicago Marathons. In 2012, he pivoted to mountain ultra trail running, with many wins and podiums in the years that followed.Sage was raised as a lacto-ovo vegetarian. He experimented with adding meat, poultry and fish to his diet at various points throughout his life, but he found that this “foreign cuisine” didn't appeal to his tastebuds or seem to offer any noticeable performance benefits in his N=1 experiment. So he concluded that it wasn't for him, and ultimately decided to became a vegan instead. We discuss what led him to take this next step, and how he has fueled his long and diverse running career while following a vegetarian/vegan diet. You'll hear him talk about a typical day of eating, his go-to performance nutrition strategies, how all of this has evolved over his 20+ years of running, and much more. And lastly, because I always like to put things in context, we recorded this interview in early June. He's had a busy summer of training, and will be running TDS by UTMB on Aug 28th. Today's guest was on Episode 43, and we're so happy he's on again to talk about his upcoming book and new documentary! From the rough-and-tumble streets of Ferguson, Missouri, to the tropical shores of Miami, Florida, Vegan Badass John Lewis has an inspiring story. Growing up on a diet practically devoid of fresh fruits and vegetables, and weighing in at over 300 pounds when he was just thirteen, John decided to make a change. He immersed himself in basketball and football excellence, changed his diet and his life. Flash-forward to today and he's a renowned fitness expert, speaker, author, and director/producer of the documentary They're Trying to Kill Us. John is also on the front lines of social justice – sharing his passion, infectious energy, and belief in the healing powers of plants to change the world. “We don't even call them food deserts anymore. We call them nutrition deserts because there is food in these areas, it's just there's no nutrition in these areas. So the food that they're getting is not the most nutritious. I mean, you can find a bodega somewhere, you can find a corner store, you can find a liquor store with snacks in it. So there's food there, but there's no nutrition there. And that's where we're having all these problems because the options aren't available.” - John Lewis What we discuss in this episode: John's new book His suggestions for anyone considering making a switch to a vegan diet How civil rights and human health are connected How he keeps his fitness on track What he eats in a day His favorite recipes His new documentary How impoverished communities are affected by factory farming Resources: Website: Bad Ass Vegan New book: Badass Vegan: Fuel Your Body, Ph*ck the System, and Live Your Life Right Documentary: They're Trying to Kill Us Instagram: J O H N • L E W I S • M.B.A (@badassvegan) • Instagram photos and videos Twitter: Bad Ass Vegan (@BADASSVEGAN) / Twitter Facebook: John Lewis | Facebook Vegan Street Fair: Vegan Street Fair Los Angeles 2023 - Premium Passes & Perks Dairy-Free Swaps Guide: Easy Anti-Inflammatory Meals, Recipes, and Tips https://switch4good.org/dairy-free-swaps-guide SUPPORT SWITCH4GOOD https://switch4good.org/support-us/ ★☆★ JOIN OUR PRIVATE FACEBOOK GROUP ★☆★ https://www.facebook.com/groups/podcastchat ★☆★ SWITCH4GOOD WEBSITE ★☆★ https://switch4good.org/ ★☆★ ONLINE STORE ★☆★ https://shop.switch4good.org/shop/ ★☆★ FOLLOW US ON INSTAGRAM ★☆★ https://www.instagram.com/Switch4Good/ ★☆★ LIKE US ON FACEBOOK ★☆★ https://www.facebook.com/Switch4Good/ ★☆★ FOLLOW US ON TWITTER ★☆★ https://mobile.twitter.com/Switch4GoodNFT ★☆★ DOWNLOAD THE ABILLION APP ★☆★ https://app.abillion.com/users/switch4good

Double Espresso With Dee: Inspiring Stories of Change and Personal Growth
Fiona Oakes is renowned as a British endurance runner and vegan athlete. She is the fastest woman in the world to run a marathon on all seven continents and the north pole. She has competed in over 100 marathons and set five marathon course records around the globe, including the Antarctic Ice Marathon. Fiona has been vegan since the age of six. She participates in endurance sports to demonstrate that her diet is not prohibitive to performance and to raise awareness of her Tower Hill Stables Animal Sanctuary, which she founded in 1996. At her sanctuary, she cares night and day for 500 rescued animals to which she has devoted her life. She has some really important things to say about ‘modern veganism' and was a sage reminder of the fact that, like all things, a choice to do better for others is often very simple. It's only that, as humans, we make it complicated. Thank you to Fiona for sharing her incredible life story with us all this week. This is a question I get asked a lot. Some people like the idea of having everything they eat planned out for them. Other folks are more attracted to the idea of doing it themselves, to favour the foods they like best. But what everybody wants to know is, which system will get you the best results? In this episode, not only do I tell you which system is best for which kind of person, but I give you a fool-proof way of planning your own nutrition. Stay tuned. thesculptedvegan.com
