In this weeks episode we catch up with Dr Bill Andrews who happens not only to be a top age level ultra marathon athlete who has competed in literally hundreds of ultramarathons in his life time including some of the absolute toughest like the Badwater Ultramarathon and La Ultra - The High, two that I know well, but he is also a world leading longevity scientist who focuses his research mostly on telomeres and extending life span and health span. Telomeres are found at the tips of our chromosomes and have been shown, in thousands of scientific peer-reviewed studies, to be the clock of aging in humans. When telomeres get shorter, we get older, and our health declines. Dr Bill says that while telomeres may not be the single cure for ageing, we can't cure ageing without fixing the telomere shortening problem.  Telomere attrition (shortening) is one of the known hallmarks of aging and Dr Bill shares in this insightful interview how we can: slow or even reverse ageing through the lengthening of our telomeres: how he discovered the worlds most powerful telomerase inducing substances. what we can expect in the near future and how we can harness this knowledge today what we can do from a lifestyle perspective to slow the shortening of our telomeres why lengthening telomere protects you from cancer rather than causing cancer as has been rumored in the past. what the longevity and anti-aging field doing today and how he believes that the many breakthroughs are already here or coming very soon. he elaborates on his life long mission to cure ageing and what he does personally to at age 72 to prevent the normal declines (hint - he still running 100 milers and going for an age group record in the next year or two. If you want to delay disease, decline and decrepitude then this is the podcast for you! As a scientist, athlete, and executive, Bill continually pushes the envelope and challenges convention. He has been featured in Popular Science, The Today Show, and numerous documentaries on the topic of life extension including, most recently, the movie The Immortalists in which he co-stars with Dr. Aubrey de Grey. See www.theimmortalists.com/watch. Bill is known for being a scientist first, focusing on scientific research, allowing others, instead, to market the products that his company discovers. Bill has been a medical researcher in biotech since 1981, focusing on cancer, heart disease, and inflammation research, while at Geron Corporation, Bill led the research to discover both the RNA and protein components of the human enzyme called telomerase. This enzyme is responsible for preventing telomeres from shortening in human reproductive cells, and this is why our children are born younger than we are even though they come from our old cells. Inducing this enzyme to lengthen telomeres in all our cells, not just our reproductive cells, to reverse aging and declining health due to aging, is the principal goal of Sierra Sciences and Sierra Holdings. (2:00) They discuss discipline and habits and compare notes on how they each approach them. (6:00) In consultations, Vinnie is still hearing how the pandemic had altered people's course with their habits, and how it also affected people's relationship to alcohol and eating. (9:30) Discipline and delayed gratification are always worth it. (14:00) Vinnie shares some examples from his own life. He treats his finances the same way—by delaying gratification. Gina talks about the importance of inspiring others to avoid excuses. (16:40) Chris Kostman, who owns the Badwater Ultramarathon, told Vinnie that it wasn't just grit that helped athletes train, but the fact that they know how to manage time to the Nth degree. (19:00) Vinnie and Gina also discuss listening to success stories from AA (Alcoholics Anonymous). So many stories are great examples of how to pick yourself up and be disciplined. (20:00) Gina's mom is recently open to learning more about NSNG®. She, like most people, has struggled with “diet mentality” and is learning that everything she thought was correct was based on poor information. The show ends with more scandalous Barry White music. Ano, 250 mil. A takovýhle závody a neuvěřitelný zážitky sypal Jirka z rukávu jeden za druhým. Plná verze podcastu a bonusový obsah Plnou verzi podcastu si můžete poslechnout na Pickey.cz nebo Patreon.com. Hello beautiful people On today's podcast we have the amazing Dean Karnazes. Dean was named as one of the most influential people in the world by Time Magazine. Dean has run 50 marathons, in all 50 US states, in 50 consecutive days, he's run across Death Valley in the middle of summer, won the world's toughest footrace, the Badwater Ultramarathon, won the 4 deserts challenge and he has even run a marathon to the South Pole. Dean is also a New York Times bestselling author with his book ‘Ultramarathon Man' and I've thoroughly enjoyed his more recent book, ‘A Runner's High'. What I personally love about this conversation is Dean's zest for life. Dean has been on a lot of podcasts in his time, so I wanted to take the opportunity to ask him some more deeper questions about his life of running. We speak about his wild beast within; this wild, raw and very real part of us. We speak about the development of his relationship with his father and how he continues to draw strength and inspiration from his sister who passed at a young age. We speak about the fear of becoming irrelevant, of how over time, aging can challenge your sense of identity and how the focus changes from achievement to contribution; that it is ‘not what you get, but what you give' that is important. And we end the conversation with a reflection on how to live life where Dean shares this powerful statement: “The bold don't live forever, but the timid don't live at all.”Please enjoy this powerful and insightful conversation with the inspiring Dean Karnazes. Connect with MeMindset Coaching | https://www.jennahlouise.com.auInstagram Personal | https://www.instagram.com/jennah_louiseConnect with DeanInstagram | https://www.instagram.com/ultramarathon Facebook | https://www.facebook.com/DeanKarnazes  Website | https://ultramarathonman.com

We have heard some incredible stories over the past year, but this one just might take the cake.  There is a prestigious record that had stood for almost 40 years before Sandra came and completely crushed it.In 1978 - Mavis Hutchinson set a new transcontinental record by running from Los Angeles to New York in a little over 69 days.  It stood for 39 years, that's when Sandra set out on a longer and more difficult route (from San Francisco to New York) and completed it in only 54 days.So is Sandra a track star with a pedigree of elite athletisism?  No!  In fact this humble, incredibly gracious athlete is a single mother who describes herself as overweight - and needed to make a change in 2013/2014...Yeah - that's right!  From starting a new workout routine in the treadmill of her local gym - to winning the Badwater Ultramarathon a few years later in 2017 - a race in 100+ degree heat, where one false step can literally melt the shoes off your feet.  And then setting an impossible world record. You're going to love this incredibly inspiring conversation holder with an incredible woman.

Welcome to Episode 40 of the Eat for Endurance Podcast, featuring elite ultra-runner and coach, Lisa Smith-Batchen. I have been trying to get this episode recorded for AGES, and am so excited that our schedules finally aligned for this interview and I am able to share it with you all. Lisa is beyond inspiring - not just because of the incredible things she has accomplished athletically across many decades (a very very long list that includes adventure races, Ironman events, and ultra-marathons), but also because she is a trailblazer for women in endurance sports. She was one of the first to demonstrate that women can compete alongside men and even win endurance events outright. Lisa was the first American to win the Marathon des Sables 150 mile stage-race through the Moroccan desert and has twice won the Badwater Ultramarathon (135 miles through Death Valley). Lisa also is the only person to run from Las Vegas, NV to the summit of Mt. Whitney, covering 306 miles, the first female to complete the “Badwater Quad,” covering 584 miles in about two weeks, and the first and only person to run 50 miles in 50 states in 62 days!At 60 years young, Lisa is a role model for longevity in the sport of running and balancing her passion for running with other priorities in her life. She has two daughters, runs Dream Chasers Outdoor Adventures with her husband, and is passionate about sharing her love of fitness as a teacher and coach. She also is committed to turning her “passion into purpose” by raising money for those in need through her athletic pursuits. As she got older and retired from racing, her runs got longer and she raised an impressive sum of money for charity. Many of her amazing feats of endurance were accomplished in her 50s! We all have so much to learn from Lisa. And believe me, she drops many pearls of wisdom during this interview, so you may want to take notes!Lisa, thank you so much for being so generous with your time and for sharing your athletic and nutrition story. I call him “Mr. Tenacity” because he is simply unstoppable. Marshall Ulrich is arguably the toughest endurance athlete in the world! At a ripe old age of 62 he just completed his 19 Badwater UltraMarathon across Death Valley. Tenacious I say? Who else would have his toe nails removed to liberate himself from the surety of toe nails getting in the way of his forward progress? In the fall of 2008, he attempted to break the world record for a trans-American crossing and completed a 3,063.2-mile run from San Francisco to New York in 52.5 days, equal to 117 marathons, or two marathons plus a 10K each day. The effort, which included many injuries and obstacles, was chronicled in the 2010 movie, Running America. This is a show you just don't want to miss!
