And I saw an angel come down from heaven, having the key to the bottomless pit the abyss and a great chain in his hand. And he laid hold on the dragon, that old serpent, which is the Devil, and Satan, and bound him a thousand years, And cast him in the bottomless pit, and shut him up, and set a seal upon him, that he should deceive the nations no more, till the thousand years should be fulfilled.Revelation 20:1–3This important piece of news is given to us by John in the twentieth chapter of Revelation right in the beginning. And having told us this, that Satan would be bound for a thousand years, we wouldn’t have to deal with him any more, he opens our minds to understand a couple of new things here that, it’s funny, he tells it to us almost as though he thought we already knew.He tells us that there is not merely one resurrection at the time of the end, but there are two resurrections a thousand years apart. Now that’s an interesting problem, and that’s something to work out. Now we do understand that the thousand years could be symbolic like other numbers in Revelation, but there’s no hint of that here. In fact, rather the way everything is worded, it seems to me that, give or take a hundred years, that we’re talking about a thousand years period of time in which Jesus Christ rules the earth, and his saints rule with him, and during that period of time Satan is utterly without any influence in this word. Now there are two chapters in the Bible that deal with the resurrection of the dead. Both of them deal with the first resurrection. They are 1 Corinthians chapter fifteen, and 1 Thessalonians chapter four. I won’t take the time to read them to you here, but they make it plain that all the dead in Christ are raised at his return. Now, let me explain: What this means is that everyone who is really a Christian, everyone in whom is the Holy Spirit, everyone who has met whatever requirements there are for salvation will be either changed to a spiritual being or resurrected from the dead at the return of Christ. What this means is, that everyone who is written in the book of life is raised in the first resurrection. What John continues to say, in verse seven, is a little more difficult.

The Book of Revelation is a book with a very specific purpose. John who wrote it tells us it is the revelation of Jesus Christ which God gave him to show his servants things which must shortly come to pass. But, why bother? Why show them things which should shortly come to pass? Well, the logical answer is because he expects you to do something about it. He thinks that If I tell my servants things that are shortly to come to pass, they can be prepared, they can change their lives, they can clean up their act, they can straighten up and fly right. You know, it’s not a bad idea if God is about to do something drastic to society because things are not going the way they ought to go, and he let you know so you can get yourself straightened up. I think that is something we all could appreciate. So, John wrote all this stuff down that he went through and he wrote a letter to some people about it. And he said that he bore testimony of all the things he saw. And I guess because it was a vision, and it had to do with things he saw, the imagery of the Book of Revelation is highly visual. What John saw was a nightmare. What we want to know about that nightmare is: What does it all mean?

Join Scott and Mark with their guest John Mazz as they chat about his YouTube channel and his cryptocurrency journey. John Mazz is the person behind the Side Hustle Enterprise YouTube channel. Today, he shares how he went from being a welder to a crypto miner and the story behind creating his content on YouTube. If you want to hear more crazy stories, stay tuned and enjoy the episode! YouTube Out of Necessity John was a college instructor for a number of years and had a special needs student in one of his classes. Since his student needed additional learning aids, John went to YouTube to create content for the student. What started as making content for a student ended up great for him as he made his content, breaking away from the initial plan of making learning aids. That came into fruition, and his YouTube channel, though all over the place, is gaining traction with currently 1.15k subscribers as of writing. John's interest in cryptocurrency made him focus on that niche for his channel, so he talks about it in his videos. Getting into Cryptocurrency Having a bit of background in building computers on his own, John was thrilled when he first got to learn the concept of cryptocurrency. He got involved in crypto since its conception in 2009 when he just moved to Southwest Florida. At the time, Bitcoin can be mined with a PC, so with a small computer plugged at the back of a welding shop, John started mining Bitcoin. Before he even landed where he is now, John had a few bumps along the way. It reached the point where he sold everything he had and moved 800 miles away from Southwest Florida. Despite his success in making money out of cryptocurrency and as a YouTuber, John does not consider himself a professional trader or proficient in it. He sees himself as a masterclass welder who loves trading and cryptocurrency. About John Mazz: John Mazz is a former college instructor and a career welder/ metal fabricator. He considers himself an optimist, a growing entrepreneur, and a workaholic. John started his first business, LLC, Top Dead Center Fabrications, at 17. It has changed direction many times, but it's still going strong, just like his family, who is the driving force behind what he does. Outline of the Episode: [01:44] Starting a YouTube channel out of necessity and stumbling across cryptocurrency. [03:19] John's insights on the current crypto situation. [12:28] Trading strategy and preferable stable coin to use. [16:47] Thoughts on using a trading bot, so there is no need to watch the charts. A Sermon for the First Sunday after Trinity 1 John 4:7-21 by William Klock One of our great challenges today is to understand what love is. Over the last few weeks I've seen an old high school friend posting her artwork for sale on social media. It's all promoting “love”. The slogan is “love is love”. But what it's really all about is promoting homosexuality. A few days ago I was reading an article by a girl who was pressured by her boyfriend into having sex. “I love you and if you love me, you'll do it,” he told her. And when she got pregnant her family told her, “If you love yourself and you love this child, you'll have an abortion rather than give yourselve and the baby so much disadvantage.” Sin makes a mess of everything, even to the point of corrupting what it means to love. But our Epistle today confronts us with real love, godly love, love defined by the cross of Jesus. “Beloved, let us love one another, because love is from God, and everyone who loves is born of God and knows God. Whoever does not love does not know God, for God is love” (1 John 4:7-8). Alongside the Epistle the Church gives us the parable of the rich man and Lazarus in our Gospel. It was a parable spoken to Pharisees who had convinced themselves that certain types of people, people who stood under God's condemnation, were unworthy of being shown love. Brothers and Sisters, Jesus reveals—especially, but not least, in his Incarnation and in his sacrificial death—that God is love. We may struggle with that. Some people get it backwards, turning love itself into a god. No. Love is not our god, but our God is love. And sometimes we struggle to wrap out minds around love itself. As I said, sin makes a mess of things and because of that we often struggle to grasp what real love is. Many have known a father or mother, a husband or wife, a boyfriend or girlfriend who spoke of love, but was abusive. Many have been in relationships where love had to be earned and was loaded with conditions. We live in a culture where lust is often confused with love. Sin has made a mess of it. This is why we have to come back to Jesus. If we want to know what love is we look to him and we think back on what he's done for us. John says in verses 9 and 10: “This is how God's love was revealed to us: God sent his only Son into the world, so that we should live through him. Love consists in this: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son to be the sacrifice that would atone for our sins.” In this we see God's perfect goodness. We're the “bad guys”, we're the rebels, we're the sinners whose love is tainted by our selfishness. We're the ones who rejected the goodness of God. We're the ones who rejected his love. (Remember, he didn't have to create us. He chose to create us in order to shower his love on us.) He could have thrown in the towel and given up on us. He could have destroyed his creation and started over just as easily as he started in the beginning. But instead he shows his perfect and abundant love in giving himself as a sacrifice for our sins that we might be restored to his presence. That's what real love looks like. This is the heart of the Christian faith. God reveals himself in Jesus the Messiah. Not only that, but in the death and resurrection of Jesus God reconciles sinners to himself. This is the love on which our faith is based and it's the love that should be revealed in our lives as people of this faith. We can't be people of Jesus without the love of Jesus being revealed through us. But, again and as we all can attest, it's not easy. I hope we all leave today wanting to go out to love and serve the Lord. He feeds us at his Table today. We've heard his Word read and once again been reminded of his love for us and how that love was made manifest in Jesus and at the cross. But sin gets in the way. How long does it last when we get back to work on Monday and something goes wrong? How long does it last when your spouse or your kids push the button that sets you off? Maybe all it takes is the drive home from church and someone drives too slowly in front of you or cuts you off. Love isn't easy. And this is the reason why we need the reminder that love isn't a warm and fuzzy feeling. It's an action, a way of life that is defined for us by God in Jesus. Brothers and Sisters, as often as we fail to show the love of Jesus in our lives we need to keep coming back to Jesus. We need to keep coming back to the one who, though he was in the form of God thought it not a thing to be exploited, but poured himself out, humbling himself and becoming one of us. We need to come back to Jesus, despised, rejected, abused, and crucified for our sake. As often as we fail to live the love of God in our lives we need to come back to the story of redemption and remind ourselves of, think on, and meditate on the lengths to which God has gone to reconcile sinners to himself. The love of God in Jesus changed the world and God intends for it to keep changing the world as it wells up in our lives and manifests itself to the world—as we live it out. John goes on in verse 11: “Beloved, since God loved us so much, we also ought to love one another.” It's easy to hear that as nothing more than “Jesus set an example, now go follow it.” Its' true that he did and that we should. But that's not what John is getting at. He goes deeper in verse 12: “No one has ever seen God; if we love one another, God lives in us, and his love is perfected in us.” John says something very similar at the beginning of his Gospel. In John 1:18 he writes, “No one has ever seen God. It is only God the Son who is close to the Father's heart, who has made him known.” What John's saying there in his Gospel is that no one can truly know God apart from Jesus. In Jesus—in the humble act of his incarnation and in his offering of himself as a sacrifice for our sins—God goes from being abstract divinity or from being the “Big Guy upstairs” to being the Creator who seeks to be intimately known by his people and who loves us infinitely. Jesus reveals that. And what John says here in our Epistle is very similar. God's love—the love he's put into action in Jesus—is made complete in his people as they are forgiven and restored and as his Spirit makes them—makes us new. And so it's through us that people come to know who God is. Jesus came and proclaimed that God's kingdom was breaking into the world and he called men and women to repent and enter his kingdom by faith. Now, in us, the world sees that kingdom. Jesus calls us to proclaim his kingdom with our mouths and to call people to repentance and faith, but it's in our lives—and our love for each other—that the world sees what Jesus has done. Just as God's love is manifest in Jesus, who took our flesh upon himself, so, John says in 3:18, we are called to love, not so much in word or speech (although we should do that too!), but to love in truth and action, made manifest in our flesh and blood. At the end of our lesson, in verse 21, John warns: “This is the commandment we have from him: Those who love God must also love their brothers and sisters.” John is talking specifically about loving our fellow Christians, but our love shouldn't be restricted by the walls of the church. That was Israel's problem and it's what Jesus condemns in our Gospel today. But John's point is that you can't claim to love God while not loving others. If you say you love God but you hate your brother or your sister, you're a liar. It's that simple. Granted, I don't know anyone who's learned to love with the perfection of Jesus, but we ought to be trying. We ought to feel remorse when we fail to love. We ought to recoil when we see hate in a brother or sister—and we ought to desire to bring correction. John writes, “By this we know that we abide in him and he in us, because he has given us of his Spirit.” And the Holy Spirit changes hearts and minds. The Holy Spirit gives life to our dead wood and makes us bear fruit, the greatest of which is love. Again, this is a challenge. Just think over the last week—or maybe just the last twenty-four hours—and I think we can all find some way in which we failed to be loving—probably more than one. I remember thinking about this when I was younger and it was new to me and I looked at my own life and I was afraid. I knew I wasn't living up to the standard John describes and I worried that one day I'd be saying, “Lord, Lord” and Jesus would tell me to depart because he didn't know me. But that's not where John takes us. Instead, John tells us in verses 17 and 18 about the confidence we can have before God. “Love has been perfected in us in this: that we may have boldness on the day of judgement, because as he is, so are we in this world. There is no fear in love, but perfect love drives out fear. Fear has to do with punishment, and whoever fears has not been perfected in love.” The love of God manifested in the flesh and blood of Jesus is made complete in us as we in turn devote our flesh and blood to God's love. And despite our struggles and our failures, we have no need to be afraid that we're outside the redeeming grace of God. If the love of God has been completed or perfected in love this way in us it has only happened because we are in Christ. God loves us. He manifests his love by giving Jesus so that we can be forgiven and restored. We grab hold of Jesus in faith. He pours his Spirit into us and transforms us. We start bearing fruit and the love of God pours out of us to others and back to God. And the more we think and meditate on it all the more we'll be driven to love. Brothers and Sisters, if you're struggling to love, steep yourself in the Word and meditate on Jesus and the cross. If you're struggling to love, come to the Table this morning and think on Jesus, the Son of God, giving his flesh and blood for your sake. If you're struggling with a half-hearted commitment to love, if we're struggling to take love seriously, consider and meditate on just how seriously God has taken his love for us. In love he gave his Son for us. In love he sent his Spirit to make us new. And if we will immerse ourselves in the love of God poured out on us in Jesus and the Spirit, the Father will surely perfect his love in us. Let us pray: Heavenly Father, in the Collect we acknowledged that in our mortal weakness we can do no good thing. It is by your grace that we are transformed. Remind us each day, we pray of the loving grace you have shown to us in giving Jesus, your Son, as a sacrifice for our sins. Remind us each day of the gift of the Spirit, whom you have poured into us and the gift of your Word that the Spirit has caused to be written—the witness to your mighty and saving deeds witnessed through the prophets and apostles and finally in Jesus. Immerse us in the means of grace you have given: in your Word, in your Sacraments, in the loving fellowship of your church where we find exhortation and discipline. Complete your love in us, we pray, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

What John has to say will be something that every operator – and supplier – will want to hear.
If want to get into computer security, you're going to learn to love it, you're going to have to be successful, because a lot of computer security isn't just about bits and bytes, it's really about effectively communicating what needs to be done to the right people. In this episode wet have the incredible John Strand. Organizations need to become more proactive, and see where those weak spots are to protect themselves from something like ransomware. You need to run a pen test because you can have somebody literally launch those attacks, and identify those weaknesses in those vulnerabilities before the bad people do. What's the gap that we can all learn from? It's passwords. By and large for most users, passphrases are the way to go. And, multi-factor authentication is actually a very sound strategy. If you look at one key tenant of computer security, complexity is the enemy of computer security. And security is constantly trying to catch up and protect against yesterday's attacks. So, the future is more connected, it's more complicated. And the problem is, we still have people that use weak passwords, we still have people that click on links from strangers. And ultimately, when we're looking at that future, you're going to see the exact same problems that we've always had complicated on a much, much, much, much, much larger scale. As things get more and more pushed to the cloud. There'll be no shelter here, the front line is everywhere. World of computer security. Today's second reading from the John's first letter opens like this: "Children, let us love not in word and speech but in deed and truth." St. John is telling us not so much that we shouldn't express love with our words, but that, for our love to be authentic, it must be backed up by deeds. This is hugely important in a culture where to "love" someone is thought to mean to have warm feelings for them. It follows then that if someone makes me feel bad there cannot be love there. What John puts into focus for us is that our love is proven when we do for each other what is best for each other (through actions), which is consistent with Aquinas's definition of love: "Willing (choosing) the good for the other".

In episode 42 of Beyond Labels & Limitations, John Graybill shares how suffering showed up when he was playing with his daughter. He believed that when she was older, then playing with her would be more fun. What John didn't realize was how his beliefs about what he "should" be doing had programmed him. It was after examining his thoughts/beliefs that John saw how powerful an unexamined/unchallenged thought can be. Wayne Dyer had given John a book titled, "What do you Really, Really, Really want for your children." This book helped John see that his daily interactions with his daughter was shaping how she would be in the future. And, it's important to be present with her; not just physically but mentally engaging with her. ______________________________ Connect with John: Subscribe on YouTube Visit the Website Email: BLLjenjohn@gmail.com ______________________________ "Desire to Inspire" TKG

Teaching NotesHope deferred makes a heart sick. Proverbs 13:12a “I will send my messenger, who will prepare the way before me. Then suddenly the Lord you are seeking will come to his temple; the messenger of the covenant, whom you desire, will come, says the Lord Almighty.”Malachi 3:1 The beginning of the good news about Jesus the Messiah, the Son of God. Mark 1:1…as it is written in Isaiah the prophet: “I will send my messenger ahead of you, who will prepare your way”— “a voice of one calling in the wilderness, ‘Prepare the way for the Lord, make straight paths for him.’” Mark 1:2-3And so John the Baptist appeared in the wilderness, preaching a baptism of repentance for the forgiveness of sins. The whole Judean countryside and all the people of Jerusalem went out to him. Confessing their sins, they were baptized by him in the Jordan River. Mark 1:4-5 John wore clothing made of camel’s hair, with a leather belt around his waist, and he ate locusts and wild honey. Mark 1:6 And this was his message: “After me comes the one more powerful than I, the straps of whose sandals I am not worthy to stoop down and untie. I baptize you with water, but he will baptize you with the Holy Spirit.” Mark 1:7-8 At that time Jesus came from Nazareth in Galilee and was baptized by John in the Jordan. Just as Jesus was coming up out of the water, he saw heaven being torn open and the Spirit descending on him like a dove. And a voice came from heaven: “You are my Son, whom I love; with you I am well pleased.” Mark 1:9-11 At once the Spirit sent him out into the wilderness, and he was in the wilderness forty days, being tempted by Satan. He was with the wild animals, and angels attended him. Mark 1:12-13 Preparation: What is John’s baptism about? The What: John’s baptism with water looked forward to Jesus, who by his death would make possible the forgiveness of sins. “told the people to believe in the one coming after him.” (Acts 19:5) The So What: We all need to acknowledge our need for Jesus. Inauguration: Why did Jesus get baptized? The What: Jesus’ baptism initiated his public ministry with the Father confirming his identity and the Holy Spirit coming upon him to empower his work. The So What: We need to acknowledge that Jesus is the one we’ve been waiting for. Confirmation: Why did the Spirit lead Jesus into the wilderness? The What: Jesus’ time in the wilderness is a “do-over” of Adam’s temptation in the garden. The So What: Jesus offers us the chance to have a “do-over” For you know that it was not with perishable things such as silver or gold that you were redeemed from the empty way of life handed down to you from your ancestors, but with the precious blood of Christ, a lamb without blemish or defect. He was chosen before the creation of the world, but was revealed in these last times for your sake. Through him you believe in God, who raised him from the dead and glorified him, and so your faith and hope are in God. 1 Peter 1:18-20Hope deferred makes the heart sick, but a longing fulfilled is a tree of life. Text LEARNERS to 44222 for more... Full show notes at www.LearningLeader.com Twitter/IG: @RyanHawk12 John Chambers served as Cisco’s CEO from 1995-2015 and Executive Chairman from 2015-2017. Cisco went from $70 million to $40 billion in annual revenue during his time. Notes: When John was six years old, he went fishing with his Dad in Elk River, WV. He was told, "Don't get too close to the water, the current is strong and could pull you under." John's curiosity got the best of him. He went too close and slipped, falling into the water. His dad ran towards the current as it was pulling John and yelled, "Just hold on to the fishing pole." Fortunately, John survived and was eventually pulled out of the water by his dad. His dad said, "Do you know why I told you to hold on to the fishing pole? "Don't let panic set in. Focus on what you can control. Work your way to calmer waters." It's a great metaphor for life. When dealing with stress, hold on to the fishing pole. How to deal with fear and uncertainty? "I had two parents that were doctors. They helped me a lot." "They taught me not to waste cycles on things you cannot change. Focus on the future, deal with the world as it is, not as you wish it was." This is why John deliberately puts the leaders he leads in stressful situations. "Under stress you learn who people are." "With that said, I only coach leaders that want to be coached." -- If you don't want to be coached, you probably won't work with John Chambers. How did he earn the job as CEO of Cisco? "My parents taught me that education is the equalizer in life. I was a professional student. I got three degrees. And was trained very well at IBM, even as an entry level employee." "I decided to leave my job at Wang for the same reason that most people leave their jobs. My manager." "I left prior to even discussing another job with someone else. I didn't feel it was right to be laying people off while looking for another job." "I thought the job offers would roll in. They didn't. I initially had no job offers... And then I reached out to my friends and network and asked for help... I had 22 offers in 90 days. 21 of them from friends of mine. I learned that the golden rule is true. Treat others how you'd like to be treated and it will come back to you when you need it." "How you treat people determines your brand." Relationships -- "I'm usually the best prepared for every meeting I'm in. That way, I can move with speed." "The emotional part of relationships comes from my mom. She taught me how to connect with people." "I love building extended family teams. My team at Cisco was my family. We had only 5% turnover while the market rate was 15%. How is John different from Jack Welch? "I learned a lot of lessons from Jack. He sent his team from GE to benchmark us at Cisco. They took 22 ideas from us." "Jack was great at quarterly business reviews, but he was very tough on his people." "I tried not to embarrass the people on my team in front of one another. I like to praise in public and criticize in private. That was different from Jack." How did they successfully acquire 180 companies? They developed great playbooks and implemented them. What John looks for in a company: Do they have an excellent CEO who wants to be coached? Can the company be #1 or #2 in their market? Talk with customers and get a feel for the company from that vantage point What is their culture? What John looks for in a leader: A track record of overachieving "I look at their leadership team. Can they build a great team? That speaks volumes about them." Cultural match - "Our values need to match." They understand the industry they're in Culture must be owned at the top: "The CEO must own the culture. In every meeting, the CEO should point out an example of how someone is living their values." Why are off site leadership retreats so important? "It allows you to develop relationships outside of the office environment. You can build in depth relationships, built on trust." "The off sites helped us learn much more about one another." Gustavo (a leader John works with) saw a grizzly bear. Later he said, "I've never been more scared or more alive." "In the evenings, I ask for each person to give a toast and share a key learning." "I look for teaching moments." Sales - A noble profession: "We are all in sales. It's about connecting with people. I was with the King of Jordan and his wife (the Queen) was pregnant, I asked, "So King will you be in the room while your wife gives birth?" This was not something that was typically asked of the King. John did it as a way to connect and offer advice. "You need to be in that room. It's the most amazing moment." This is how John connects with others. Sales is part of everything we do. You get rejected, have to bounce back, and keep going. "I once asked Steph Curry, 'do you think you're going to make every shot? Even if you've missed your last five?' 'Yes, he said.' Sales is like that, you have to believe in yourself to make the next one." Advice: Never compromise your values How you handle your setbacks with determine your life Treat people like you want to be treated. Be kind. Focus, but also relax. Don't be so uptight.

John Perkins (@jperkinsauthor) is an economist who has advised the World Bank, United Nations, Fortune 500 corporations, and the US government. He is the author of The New Confessions of an Economic Hit Man. What We Discuss with John Perkins: How corporations and governments use economic hit men (like John in a previous life) to coerce developing countries to auction off their most valuable resources like rainforests, oil, and mines at bargain-basement prices. Why these predatory capitalist policies are commonplace and above scrutiny -- even though your tax dollars are massively subsidizing them. The dire consequences that transpire when the leaders of these developing nations refuse to play ball. How false economics, false promises, threats, bribes, extortion, debt, deception, coups, assassinations, and unbridled military power are used to dominate the developing world now more than ever before. What John has learned from his time inside this corrupt system that we can use to transform what he calls a Death Economy into a Life Economy. And much more...
