"But here's the beautiful part - God honors our honesty and vulnerability. Lament and grief are invitations to draw closer to Him." - Michael John CusickWelcome back to another episode of "Restoring the Soul with Michael John Cusick". In today's episode, titled "Navigating the Valley: How Lament and Grief Lead Us to Encounter God's Presence," Michael and Brian Boecker delve into the profound topic of grief and lament. They begin by examining Psalm 88, an intense Psalm that expresses the psalmist's anguish and feelings of abandonment by God. God honors our honesty and vulnerability, even in moments of anger and confusion toward Him. They also discuss the invitation to grieve and engage in lament as a means of intimacy and trust with God. Pulling from various sources, including Walter Brugeman's books on the Psalms and lament, we learn that lament is a form of worship, allowing us to bring our hearts before God. Join us as we welcome and engage with our suffering, embracing the paradox of suffering and resurrection and seeking to be hospitable to our pain. Prepare for a thought-provoking and soul-stirring conversation that will challenge and encourage you on your faith journey.CONTACT RESTORING THE SOUL:- Tweet us at @michaeljcusick and @PodcastRTS- Like us on Facebook- Follow us on Instagram & Twitter- Follow Michael on Twitter- Email us at info@restoringthesoul.com Thanks for listening!

"I think sometimes that feels like this journey that we're on is that sometimes God asks us to let go of something, not for the sake of because that thing is bad, but he's like, there's something more that is even deeper, what you long for and desire in that." - Brian BoeckerIn this episode of Restoring the Soul, we dive into a fascinating conversation between Michael and Brian Boecker. Brian specializes in intensive counseling, particularly with missionaries, expatriates, and individuals who have lived abroad.Today's episode takes us on a deep exploration of the concept of finding one's life by losing it. Drawing inspiration from a passage in the Gospel of Luke, Michael and Brian debunk common misunderstandings about dying to self and losing oneself. Particularly in the context of addiction, many individuals mistakenly believe that dying to self means suppressing their own needs and desires, leading to feelings of worthlessness and a loss of self-value.Michael and Brian uncover the truth behind this misconception, revealing that unwanted behavior often stems from a deep desire that needs attention. They discuss how people often attach their desires to things they think will fulfill them, only to find that these attachments fall short. Through letting go of these attachments, one's true desire can be fully awakened. So get ready to be challenged and inspired as we delve into this thought-provoking conversation about finding life and discovering our true selves.CONTACT RESTORING THE SOUL:- Tweet us at @michaeljcusick and @PodcastRTS- Like us on Facebook- Follow us on Instagram & Twitter- Follow Michael on Twitter- Email us at info@restoringthesoul.com Thanks for listening!
"I think there's ways in which I've defined life on the banks. To get into the river would be, in a sense, losing my life. Abstract: Gain-of-function mutations in the LRRK2 gene cause Parkinson's disease (PD), increasing phosphorylation of RAB GTPases through hyperactive kinase activity. We found that LRRK2-hyperphosphorylated RABs disrupt the axonal transport of autophagosomes by perturbing the coordinated regulation of cytoplasmic dynein and kinesin motors. In iPSC-derived human neurons, knock-in of the strongly-hyperactive LRRK2-p.R1441H mutation caused striking impairments in autophagosome transport, inducing frequent directional reversals and pauses. Knock-out of the opposing Protein Phosphatase 1H (PPM1H) phenocopied the effect of hyperactive LRRK2. Overexpression of ADP-ribosylation factor 6 (ARF6), a GTPase that acts as a switch for selective activation of dynein or kinesin, attenuated transport defects in both p.R1441H knock-in and PPM1H knock-out neurons. Together, these findings support a model where a regulatory imbalance between LRRK2-hyperphosphorylated RABs and ARF6 induces an unproductive "tug-of-war" between dynein and kinesin, disrupting processive autophagosome transport. This disruption may contribute to PD pathogenesis by impairing the essential homeostatic functions of axonal autophagy. Copy rights belong to original authors. “The call of spirituality is to be fully human and fully alive.” - Brian BoeckerRuth Haley Barton once said, “...there is a truer self waiting to be recognized and breathed into life by the Spirit of God.” The war between the false self and the true self is real and for some of us, is fought throughout our lives. Franciscan priest Richard Rohr feels that there is no more challenging spiritual issue than the "problem of the self."On today's podcast, Michael welcomes back Restoring the Soul colleague Brian Boecker to discuss the false self versus the true self and consider questions like, ”What are the repetitive patterns that keep me deadened to my own desire and how do I awaken those things?” We also hope you come to realize that the call of spirituality is to be fully human and fully alive.Brian Boecker is an Intensive Clinical Soul Care Specialist at Restoring the Soul. “Sometimes God cruelly puts me in places of exposure because He wants to bring healing to things that I have covered over.” - Brian BoeckerOn this episode, Michael welcomes another member of the Restoring the Soul team for an opportunity for you to get to know them better. As you will hear, this “awakening” reset the trajectory of his relationship with his wife and changed their lives forever. Consequently, learning and understanding his own story has served as the foundation of how he approaches his vocation as an Intensive Clinical Soul Care Specialist.Brian has a deep love of entering the stories of people in ways that move them toward restoration, healing, and wholeness.

Wow, this is a big one. We interview retired Air Force Lt Col Tom Rempfer (hoping4justice.com) and lawyer Mark Zaid (markzaid.com) about the recent lawsuit determining the infamous Anthrax Vaccination Program to be illegal. Now what action can be taken for the 1000+ veterans that received punishment up to and including a court-martial when they refused the vaccine? We also speak with Matt Deegan and Jeff Boecker with Parade Rest (www.paraderestva.org) about their mission to interview local Vietnam Veterans on video for the Library of Congress.
