Donna Blackburn, a long-serving trustee on the Ottawa-Carleton District School Board, has been formally censured by her peers and must take antisemitism training. The vote came on Nov. 26, following an official complaint accusing Blackburn of using slurs about Jews being powerful bullies. While the OCDSB stopped short of suspending Blackburn outright, as others in similar situations have been, Jewish leaders are applauding the school board's somewhat unexpected stand against antisemitism. The OCDSB has long been accused of treating Jewish students and staff differently than other equity-seeking groups. In this latest example, Dr. Nili Kaplan-Myrth, a trustee on the board, lodged a complaint this summer after a dispute over the Capital Pride Parade. She and Blackburn, a long supporter of the parade, clashed when the school board pulled out of the event after organizers openly supported the Palestinian cause, blamed Israel for a “genocide” in Gaza, said Israel was pinkwashing the war, and called for a boycott of sponsors who were Zionists. On today's episode of The CJN Daily, we hear reaction from Jewish leaders in Ottawa: Kaplan-Myrth; Stacey Freedhoff of the new Jewish Parents of Ottawa Students Association; Rabbi David Rotenberg, who runs twenty NCSY student clubs in Ottawa public schools; and Ariel and Ethan Podolsky, Grade 12 students at Sir Robert Borden High School, where many recent incidents targeting Jewish students have taken place. Wyjeżdża do Waszyngtonu, gdzie w Banku Światowym objął stanowisko Alternate Executive Director, czyli jednego z wielu zastępców wielu dyrektorów bez większego znaczenia. Kurski będzie mógł wpaść na doroczną paradę Capital Pride albo pokręcić się w okolicy The Gay Way. Ponad 226 tys. rocznie — czyli ponad milion złotych — i to bez żadnego podatku?

Stand Against HateHear from passionate team members serving the DMV region on the force behind Stand Against Hate.GUEST BIO:Barbara Chinn is the senior program manager for HIV testing, counseling, prevention, and community outreach. She's worked at AHF for twelve years, and has served in a variety of other roles including Regional Director and program manager. - LinkedInMike McVicker is the geography regional director for D.C., Maryland, and Virginia. They have been with AHF for ten years. - LinkedInCORE TOPICS + DETAILS:[5:31] - Standing Against HateWhat it means personally to each of our guestsFor Barbara, standing against hate starts inward— as a person of color she's experienced discrimination herself, and she now works with people to try to help them overcome the various challenges that come from hate. Meanwhile, Mike is energized by the way that the once-popular ‘No Nate' slogan has evolved to become even more proactive. We're not just saying ‘no' to hate, we're actively combatting it every chance we get.[7:33] - Strategies for the LGBTQ CommunityGoing beyond PRIDE to activismBarbara and Mike agree that being outspoken as an organization about the problems and discrimination facing the LGBTQ community is central to AHF's mission— including influencing legislators to remove some of the barriers in place against the community. This is paired with local activism in communities impacted by HIV, from offering free testing to pharmaceutical services and more.[14:44] - AHF & Public HealthServing patients & fighting misconceptionsWhile AHF is sometimes presented as an ‘anti-PrEP' organization, it's actually one of the biggest fillers of PrEP prescriptions in the world. Meanwhile, local wellness programs serve as collaborative practices between pharmacies and public health, using pharmacists to offer clinical services to underserved patients.[17:35] - Heading into PRIDERenewed energy and activismMike and Barbara speak about how this year's PRIDE festival feels particularly poignant in the wake of discriminatory legislation such as the Don't Say Gay bill. They're both excited to bring an edge of defiance to PRIDE festivities this year, and continue fighting for LGBTQ rights every year and every day.RESOURCES:[11:59] Capital Pride[13:57] What is PrEP?[15:05] Temple Hills Wellness CenterFOLLOW:Follow Lauren Hogan: LinkedInFollow AHFter Hours: InstagramABOUT AFTER HOURS:The AIDS Healthcare Foundation is the world's largest HIV/AIDS service organization, operating in 45 countries globally. Additional resources:Elizabeth uses this article from Lewandowsky and this article from Peter & Koch for academic definition of backfire effect Early in the episode Riyadh mentions the book Weapons of Math Disruption by Cathy O'Neil — here is a review that summarizes what it's all about.Elizabeth also mentions last week's rebroadcast episode about Echo Chambers and Filter Bubbles with Adi Rao.The term “information overload” is used in this episode. Here is an interesting article with simple tips on how to deal with information overload. Riyadh discusses the benefits of use of infographics to make information more accessible. June is LGBTQ+ Pride Month, and Capital Pride is being celebrated across Washington this weekend. In a surprise appearance, Vice President Kamala Harris and Second Gentleman Doug Emhoff even joined in, participating in the Pride march on Saturday. And they even had their own version of a Pride Brunch, making a surprise stop at Centrolina in CityCenter DC. Chef Amy Brandwein, a pioneer female Chef-owner, and her team aren't just known for standout and award-winning regional Italian cooking and commitment to sustainable ingredients, but also for strengthening and building the community around them. So it probably wasn't unexpected that Vice President dined at Centrolina on Saturday. Having a table right by the powerful couple though was. Our own Tommy McFLY, his husband Chrys and friend DJ Neekola had a front-row, or adjacent, seat to Harris's first visit to Centrolina as Vice President. After the Vice President's team and Secret Service left the restaurant, Chef Amy talked to Tommy about the visit. Deborah CoxDeborah Cox (born July 13, 1974) is a Canadian singer, songwriter, actress, and record producer. Born and raised in Toronto, Cox began performing on television commercials at age 12, and entered various talent shows in her teenage years before becoming a professional backing vocalist for Celine Dion. In 1994, she relocated to the United States and was signed to Arista Records by Clive Davis, releasing her self-titled debut album the following year. Her second studio album One Wish (1998) was certified platinum in the United States and was marked by the commercial success of the pop crossover single "Nobody's Supposed to Be Here", which would become Cox's most successful entry on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, peaking at number two and remaining there for eight consecutive weeks. Cox signed with J Records for her third studio album The Morning After (2002), which saw moderate commercial success.Cox ventured into acting in the 2000s, making her film debut in the Canadian drama film Love Come Down (2000) and her stage debut in 2004, in the title role in the Broadway musical Aida. She has since appeared in smaller films and several musical productions, including the horror-drama Jekyll & Hyde, the biographical musical Josephine and the musical adaptation of The Bodyguard. Cox's most recent studio albums, Destination Moon (2007) and The Promise (2008), have been released through her own independent record label, Deco Recording Group. In 2017, her single "Let the World Be Ours Tonight" became her 13th number-one hit on Billboard's Dance Club Songs over the span of three consecutive decades.[1] In 2016, Billboard listed Cox at 23rd on its list of the Greatest of All Time Top Dance Club Artists.[2] An eight-time Juno Award nominee, she has won four awards and is often cited as Canada's top R&B artist.[3] Deborah Cox was born in Toronto to parents of Afro-Guyanese descent, grew up in Scarborough, Toronto and attended John XXIII Catholic Elementary School and Earl Haig Secondary School.[3] She began singing on TV commercials at age 12, and entered various talent shows including an appearance on Tiny Talent Time.[4] She performed in nightclubs as a teenager, and began to write music around the same time.[5] Cox entered the music industry in the early 1990s, performing as a backup vocalist for Celine Dion for six months.[3][6] After receiving many rejection letters from Canadian record labels that claimed their "quota" had been reached, Cox moved to Los Angeles in 1994 with producer and songwriting partner, Lascelles Stephens.[3][6]Career[edit]1995–1999: Debut and One Wish[edit]In 1995, label executive Clive Davis signed Cox to Arista Records. Featuring production from Dallas Austin, Keith Crouch, Tim & Bob, and Kenneth "Babyface" Edmonds, she released her self-titled debut album the same year. A middling commercial and critical success, the album peaked at number 102 on US Billboard 200 but emegered as a steady seller, eventually receiving a gold certification by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA), while going platinum in Canada. Lead single "Sentimental" entered the top five on the US Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs, while follow-up "Who Do U Love" attained worldwide success, becoming a top twenty success in Australia, New Zealand and the US, also reaching the top of Billboard's Dance Club Songs.[7] In 1996, Deborah Cox won Cox a Juno Award for Best R&B/Soul Recording at the annual award ceremony and earned her a Best Soul/R&B New Artist nomination at the 1996 American Music Awards.Cox contributed the non-album song "Things Just Ain't The Same" to the soundtrack to the 1997 film Money Talks. A dance remix of the song, produced by Hex Hector, became her second number-one hit on Billboard's Dance Club Songs chart and was included on her second album, 1998's One Wish. As with her self-titled debut album, her sophomore effort was once again executive-produced by Davis, but featured more uptempo, contemporary R&B, and a slew of new producers and personnel to incorporate dance and club music, including Montell Jordan, Anthony "Shep" Crawford, Rodney "Darkchild" Jerkins, and DJ Quik. One Wish peaked at number 72 on the Billboard 200 and earned a platinum certification from the RIAA, while reaching gold status in Canada. The album capitalized on the crossover success of lead single "Nobody's Supposed to Be Here" which became Cox's most successful entry on the Billboard Hot 100, peaking at number two, and remaining there for eight consecutive weeks, making it one of the longest stays at number two in chart history. The song also reached number one on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs, spending a then record-breaking 14 weeks at number one, while the third single "We Can't Be Friends," a duet with R. L. Huggar, reached the top ten, with "It's Over Now" and "I Never Knew" become chart-toppers on the Dance Club Songs chart.2000–2005: The Morning After and acting career[edit]After One Wish, Cox collaborated with singer Whitney Houston on her single "Same Script, Different Cast" from the compilation album Whitney: The Greatest Hits. Incorporating a backing track of Ludwig van Beethoven's "Für Elise" during the intro, it was released as a radio-only promo single and became a minor hit on Billboard Hot 100, peaking at number 70 while reaching number 14 on Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs. In 2000, Cox made her acting debut when she starred in Clement Virgo's Canadian drama film Love Come Down, playing a nightclub singer. The film garnered eight nominations at the 21st Genie Awards, including two Best Original Song nominations for Cox's songs "29" and "Our Love". In 2001, Cox then recorded "Absolutely Not", for the soundtrack to Dr. Dolittle 2 which became her sixth number one hit on Billboard's Dance Club Songs.Cox's third album The Morning After was released in November 2002 on J Records following a frustratingly long departure from Arista. It marked the Cox's first record under Clive Davis's label, with Davis, once more serving as executive producer.[8] Keen to build on the success of her previous album One Wish, he enlisted the help of producers such as Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis, Jermaine Dupri, Rodney "Darkchild" Jerkins, and Shep Crawford as well as up-and-coming producers Warryn Campbell, Johntá Austin and Alex Richbourg to work with Cox. A blend of urban R&B and adult contemporary songs with additional dance/house tracks, it became her highest-charting album on the US Billboard 200 and Billboard's Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums yet, debuting and peaking at number 38 and number seven, respectively. Commercially, the album was less successful than her previous album, however, though it produced two singles on the US Dance Club Songs chart, including "Mr. Lonely" and "Play Your Part".[8]In February 2004, Cox made her Broadway debut in the Elton John-Tim Rice musical Aida when she replaced singer Michelle Williams in her role of the Nubian princess. Her four-month engagement earned largely positive reviews.[9] The same year, she recorded and released a dance remix of the musical's theme song "Easy As Life" as a promotional single.[10] In 2005, Cox starred in the films Blood of a Champion and Love on Layaway. Also that year, her voice was featured in the movie Hotel Rwanda in the song "Nobody Cares". To sustain demand for Cox's club appearances, while focused on her family and new album projects, she released a dance single titled "House Is Not a Home" on Nervous Records in January 2006. Later in the year, her song "Definition of Love" was used in the movie Akeelah and the Bee, but was not released as a single.2006–2009: Destination Moon and The Promise[edit]Between 2005 and 2006 Deborah recorded her fourth album, called Destination Moon, arranged and produced by Rob Mounsey. A tribute album to jazz singer Dinah Washington, Cox noted it a concept album that she had in mind for years.[11] Most of the album was recorded live with a forty-piece orchestra with Rob Mounsey arranging. Eventually released by Decca Records in June 2017, Destination Moon peaked at number three on the Billboard Top Jazz Albums. The same year, Cox co-starred alongside Golden Brooks and Darius McCrary in Leslie Small's film A Good Man is Hard to Find. Based on the musical stage play of the same name, the comedy depicts the story of three women who each undergo romantic crises that challenge their personal and spiritual relationships.[12] In 2008, Cox performed the Canadian national anthem at the NBA All-Star Game in New Orleans, receiving rave reviews.[13] She also contributed the song "This Gift" to the soundtrack of the 2008 romantic drama film Meet the Browns, directed by Tyler Perry, and served as a supprting act on Cyndi Lauper's True Colors Tour 2008.[14]Also that year, Cox finished work on her sixth studio album The Promise, released on November 11, 2008, through Deco Recording Group, Cox's own independent label, with distribution handled by Image Entertainment. A breakaway from her previous album, it marked her return to R&B music and saw her working with a wider number of songwriters and producers on the album, including The Avila Brothers, Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis, Devo Springsteen, Big Jim, and Shep Crawford.[15] The Promise debuted at number 106 on the US Billboard 200, number 14 on the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums, and number 95 on the Canadian Albums Chart. Earning generally mixed to positive reviews from music critics,[16] it was nominated for R&B/Soul Recording of the Year at the 2009 Juno Awards. It second single "Beautiful U R" marked her biggest hit since "Nobody's Supposed to Be Here," becoming a top ten hit in Canada, where it was certified platinum by Music Canada, as well as her tenth chart-topper on the Billboard' Dance Club Songs. In support of the album, Cox joined forces with American R&B singer Kenny Lattimore for the joint Timeless Promise Tour in July 2009.[17] Also in 2009, she was featured on the single "Leave the World Behind", a house track produced by four DJs Axwell, Steve Angello, Sebastian Ingrosso and Laidback Luke.[18]2010–present: The Queen Project, dance music and Broadway[edit]Cox performing at the Capital Pride in Washington, D.C. in 2012.In 2010, it was announced that Cox would be joining fellow R&B singers Kelly Price and Tamia to form a supergroup.[19] While the trio recorded several tracks together, their joint album The Queen Project eventually failed to materialize due timing issues and label politics.[20] In 2011, Cox released the dance-heavy single "If It Wasn't for Love" through Deco Entertainment.[21] It became her eleventh chart topper on Billboard's Dance Club Songs and was to precede a new studio album which remained unreleased.[22] In September 2012, Cox gave her inaugural performance as the female lead Lucy in a revival of the musical Jekyll & Hyde which toured North America for twenty-five weeks. While the show enjoyed a limited Broadway run only, Cox received positive reviews for her performance.[22] Also in 2012, she collaborated with rapper Akon on the song "No Labels", the official anthem of the same-titled American bipartisan political organization.[23] The following year, Cox collaborated with DJ Paige on the non-album single "Higher". Released through Electronic Kingdom Records, it became her twelfth number-one hit on the US Dance Club Songs chart.[21] In 2014, Cox was one of the performers at the opening ceremonies of WorldPride in Toronto, alongside Melissa Etheridge, Tom Robinson and Steve Grand.[24]In 2015, she provided vocals for the made for television biographical film Whitney, directed by Angela Bassett based on American recording artist Whitney Houston.[25] Cox performed all of Houston's vocals in the film, including "I Will Always Love You", "I'm Your Baby Tonight", and "The Greatest Love of All."[25] The same year, she released the deep house-influenced "Kinda Miss You",[26] as well as the ballad "More Than I Knew" as singles.[27] Both were set to appear on her sixth album Work of Art, initially announced for an August 2015 release through Deco and Primary Wave Music.[28] However, after several delays, the album remained unreleased.[29] In 2016, Cox played the lead role of Josephine Baker in the Broadway-bound musical Josephine, which chronicled the singer's life between the years of 1939 and 1945, and starred as Rachel Marron in the North American Tour of the musical The Bodyguard based on the 1992 film of the same name. In support of the musical, Cox released the EP I Will Always Love You on Deco and Broadway Records, containing cover versions of seven Whitney Houston originals and Whitney Houston's cover of Dolly Parton's "I Will Always Love You."[30] In June 2017, she released an uptempo dance single "Let the World Be Ours Tonight" during LGBTQ pride season on Radikal Records and Galactic Media. It marked her 13th single to top Billboard's Dance Club Songs.[1]On June 25, 2019, The New York Times Magazine listed Deborah Cox among hundreds of artists whose material was reportedly destroyed in the 2008 Universal fire.[31]Personal life[edit]Cox currently lives in Miami, Florida. She is married to her high school sweetheart and manager, Lascelles Stephens.[32] They have three children: son, Isaiah (born July 1, 2003), and two daughters, Sumayah (born June 29, 2006), and Kaila Michelle (born February 23, 2009).[33]Discography[edit]Main article: Deborah Cox discographyDeborah Cox (1995)One Wish (1998)The Morning After (2002)Destination Moon (2007)The Promise (2008)Awards and nominations[edit]1996Won: Juno Award for Best R&B/Soul Recording (Deborah Cox).Nominated: American Music Award for Favorite New Artist – Soul/Rhythm & Blues.1997Nominated: Juno Award for Best Female Vocalist.1998Won: Juno Award for Best R&B/Soul Recording ("Things Just Ain't the Same").Won: Soul Train Award for Best R&B/Soul Single – Female ("Nobody's Supposed to Be Here").1999Won: Juno Award for Best R&B/Soul Recording (One Wish).Nominated: Juno Award for Best Female Vocalist.Won: Soul Train Lady of Soul Award for Best R&B/Soul Song of the Year ("Nobody's Supposed to Be Here").2000Nominated: Genie Award for Best Original Song ("Our Love" and "29" from Love Come Down).Nominated: Soul Train Award for Best R&B/Soul Single – Group, Band or Duo ("Same Script, Different Cast" feat. Happy Pride! In our fourth episode, we talk about seeing Wonder Woman, celebrating Gay Days at Walt Disney World, and marching for equality at Capital Pride in Washington, DC. We share our experiences at Pandora: World of Avatar at Animal Kingdom and going on the Keys to the Kingdom Tour at the Magic Kingdom. We also get serious for a few seconds (we promise!) and talk about what Pride means to us. FABULOUS!
Expert journalist Brody Levesque gives his in depth perspective on the breaking news out of Washington. Also, today in MetroWeekly, Angela Peoples writes "Today, Pride has become an institution. Corporations eager to market their products to affluent LGBTQ people have stepped in to provide funds that promise to make each coming Pride celebration larger, more elaborate, and more expensive than ever before. In exchange, corporations and state institutions get to wrap themselves in the rainbow flag and showcase their “allyship.” But in pursuing “bigger” and “better,” Capital Pride has abandoned the principles of freedom, liberation, and self-determination that make Pride a tradition worth celebrating." Do you agree? We discuss.

Happy New Year! I know, I know, that was practically two months ago, and we’ve been dead quiet for a long time. Sorry! We’ve all gotten really involved in politics. I started a queer anti-fascist book club, attended by a bunch of people you hear us talk about every now and then, and I’ve been doing a lot more activism and protesting. Katja, Jordan, Chaim, and I all travelled to DC together for the Women’s March, and I’m going back in April for the Science March, possibly the Worker’s March, and definitely for Capital Pride in June, where Viktor and I will again dance the night away for equality. I don’t want to take a ton of your time before this episode, but I do want to point out that Declan is pretty amazing, and it was so fun having him as my guest cohost. Episode 20 is actually already in the can, and it returns to our very first format, in the same bar where we recorded our very first episodes. We’re still looking for something special to do to commemorate our first year as a podcast, though, so if you have ideas give us a shout! You can always find us on Twitter, after all: @talesovertails. It’s my sincerest hope that you’re not just surviving but thriving in 2017. I spent the holidays tremendously depressed about the incoming administration, and about the world in general. Now that Trump and his incompetent and corrupt and menacing circus is in full swing I find myself energized. Last time I said you hadn’t seen anything in terms of politics out of me, and so far that seems to be true. Chaim has to remind me on the regular that resisting Trump is a marathon, not a sprint, and he’s absolutely right. It just turns out I have more energy for marathons than I thought I did. Anyway, stay strong, stay true to yourself, and if you wish the world were different than it is, do something to make it that way. Not everyone can march in the street. Not everyone can wave a sign. Some of you may be in circumstances such that you’re taking a risk just downloading this podcast and having it on your phone. I don’t ask that you do what I’ve done, because what I’ve done is what’s right for me. I ask that you do what you can, when you can, how you can, no matter what that is, and that you also save a little of yourself so you’ll be able to do something again later. There’s no such thing as making a small difference in the world. Whether you march in the streets, fist in the air, or you simply show kindness to someone, or provide a friendly ear, or reach out to someone else and let them know they’re not alone in their anger or fear or concern or pride, all those things make a difference. Look to yourself to know what you can do, and do that, and in my book you’ll be a hero. And remember, as always, especially in times like these: be safe, but have fun. The Total Tutor, Neil Haley will interview Billboard Recording Artist Consuelo Vanderbilt Costin. Neil will interview Consuelo to find out about how she became a singer, her famous family histroy, and her latest single. The seventh generation descendent of Cornelius Vanderbilt, Consuelo Vanderbilt Costin could have gone on to lead the privileged life of a debutante. Dubbed the “Rebel Heiress” by Prestige Magazine, she chose to pursue her dreams of being an artist instead, immersing herself full force into the world of dance-pop music. In addition to founding her own record label, C&R Records, Consuelo has performed around the world and shared the stage with such notable artists as Mya, Tweet ,Vanessa Carlton and Joe Cocker. Among her many accomplishments, Consuelo performed “God Bless America” at Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles and twice performed for hundreds of thousands at Capital Pride in Washington D.C and was asked to perform for Fashion Week in NY and Los Angeles. As her affinity for dance music continues to evolve, Consuelo delves deeper into beats and production, finding inspiration in artists like David Guetta and Calvin Harris. Her first dance single “Naked” spent 16 weeks on the Billboard charts and reached #12. Her follow-up single “Feel So Alive,” co-written and produced by Peter Amato reached Billboard's #2 spot for Breakout Artist and #21 on the U.S. Billboard Dance Charts. Consuelo's current single, “Here We Go” captured the attention of the German, French and UK DJs and landed her in the German club charts for the first time. It is now being played by thousands of DJs in Europe which placed her in the German DDC top 50, DDP top.
We're always thrilled to feature new musicians on the show. And when this week's singer turns out to be a super hottie, model, dancer, actor, and artist by the name of MIKE MUNICH, we're on top of the world. Mike calls in to chat with Dale, Scott & Steve about his longtime role on FOX's Glee (he's part of the Vocal Adrenaline group); how he carried Lady Gaga's infamous egg into the American Music Awards; danced in several of her videos; has performed with Adam Lambert and Kei$ha and countless others; has graced hundreds of magazines and websites as a sought after model; and, he's starred in a string of videos for Andrew Christian. Sigh. It's too bad this boy lives such a boring life! We also talk to him about his own music. His "Beat the Beat" and "Referee" singles have been heating up lately and his full EP is due soon. He'll be on the road performing at Pride events, too, so get ready, America. It's gonna be one hot summer! Also up this week, our resident gay etiquette expert STEVEN PETROW returns for his monthly segment with Scott. They talk about whether it's kosher to turn funerals into fundraisers; the dangers of social media-ing while drunk; the proposed boycott of North Carolina; and, the true meaning of 'fashionably late.' (Hint, it does NOT mean showing up for dinner 45 minutes after everyone sat down.) Our conversations with Steven keep getting better and we love that he's a part of the show. And mixed throughout today show, the hosts chat about pre-Capital Pride events; Scott's run-in with Sherry Vine in the Garden State; whether Jay-Z means what he says about same-sex marriage; Clay Aiken and his Face the Nation appearance; all the Fall 2012 television announcements from the networks; and, how one crazy lady in Nebraska thinks rimming will kill within 30-minutes flat! No joke. And finally, it's the third and final week of our new giveaway contest! You can enter to win a C-IN2 Prize Pack if you enter by 5:00pm EST on May 22. Find out how.
This week we welcome the amazing storyteller, George Takei. This actor and activist was an absolute delight as he told tales of his "It's Okay To Be Takai" campaign to counter those nutjobs down in Tennessee who want to make it illegal for teachers to use the word 'gay.' He also addresses the Tracy Morgan anti-gay comments from last week, talks about his coming out, all about the powerful new musical called Allegiance that he's creating for Broadway, and his kick-ass role on the Nickelodeon show, Supah Ninjas. Apparently, it's supah! George was such a good sport and we learned so much from this dedicated, talented legend. And you'll loooove his voice. Yup, we didn't even mention it until paragraph three, but you and the WHOLE WORLD knows George Takei best as Mr. Sulu from the original Star Trek television show and feature movies. We certainly encourage you to take time to listen to the complete 50-minute, completely uncut chat with George, which includes expanded conversation and history of Prop 8 as well as some very interesting information about Star Trekconventions on five continents, his thoughts on actor John Cho in the role he originated, and how the show's creator Gene Roddenberry chose the cast and the character names. Not to be missed! It's available at swishedition.com. Also on this fun episode: Sherry Vine's newest (she never rests), "You're A Whore" to the tune of JLo's "On The Floor;" A wrap-up of DC's Capital Pride festivities; Neil Patrick Harris does it AGAIN on the Tony Awards; Still more of Weiner's wiener; The gay-hating GOP hopefuls debate; "NYC Prep" Actress Kelli's Tony Moran & Warren Rogg Radio Edit of "Gave Up On Love;" More news on Arnold's baby mama; A new song from out singer Aiden Leslie called, "Trying To Leave Now;" We're giving away a ticket to Camp 2011; and, All the gay news from Sean Bugg at Metro Weekly. Episode 138 is called, "You're So Takei."
First Lisa, and now Margaret Cho! We love it when great guests want to come back. Margaret was our very first guest on the Swish Edition back in October 2010 while she was on Dancing with the Stars. This time, she talks about the Season Three premiere of her hit Lifetime show Drop Dead Diva; what Pride month means to her, including her "Morris Kight Lifetime Achievement Award" bestowed upon her by L.A. Pride; what she thinks of Congressman Weiner's wiener; why she'll be eating haggis in Scotland this summer; how "Captain Cameltoe" came about; and, most importantly, she gets down with us and plays our patented "60-Second Hoe Down" game! It's too much fun. Also on this fun episode: Steve reviews the Rihanna concert; Dale is marketing his own line of Daledoes; Some new info about Capital Pride 2011; Weiner's wiener; "Born This Way" banned in Lebanon; A 12 year-old boy gets the Boston Redsox to tape an "It Gets Better" video; Why you need to be extra careful on Facebook; A great cover of Lady Gaga's "Edge of Glory" that she personally loves; We're giving away two tickets to Camp 2011; and, All the gay news from Sean Bugg at Metro Weekly. It's here, an all new Swish...Episode 137, "ChoTastic."
Bigger is better, right? Well, we think so, which is why this week's show is the longest and juiciest ever! We are thrilled to bring you our fun chat with the one and only "Wonder Woman" herself, Lynda Carter. She talks about her new album Crazy Little Things, as well as her love of rowing on the Potomac River, why she is holding on tight to the original costume (yes, THAT costume), why she loves the gays, what she sang to Kermit the Frog, and much more. A delightful, absolutely stunning lady. And we have her! Stay tuned to the end of the chat to hear a track off the new album. (Lynda starts at the 43:40 mark.) Also on the mega-episode, we chat with Broadway star / pop singer, Matt Zarley. This was one silly conversation that we all really enjoyed. We play his new single What The Fuck first (see the video below) then get into it ALL including what famous gay brother of an actor that plays a superhero he had a fling with, how he found the bears and otters for his "WTF" video, why he likes pop over Broadway, and much more. You'll dig this guy, he's a trip and a real good sport. (Matt kicks in at the 1:11:00 mark; told you it was a long ass show.) And Scott Jackson from Capital Pride stops by to update us on all things Pride related...including the (not so) surprising news that singer Kelly Rowland backed out of her Street Festival headlining gig due to scheduling conflicts. Whatever! Two years in a row? What's going on? Last year Mya quit at the last minute, too. But, luckily, singer/actress Jennifer Holliday of "Dreamgirls" fame will be coming to DC's rescue and she'll be just great. Also on this packed episode: Steve got his NOH8 campaign picture taken; Dan Choi goes to Russia and brings back a fat lip; Old Navy goes gay (sorta); Circumcision might become illegal in parts of California; HRC jumps the gun and endorses Obama for 2012); We're giving away two tickets to Camp 2011; and, All the gay news from Sean Bugg at Metro Weekly. Here it is, an all new Swish, it's Episode 136, "It's A Wonder."
This week we welcome super hottie Jeff Timmons to the show. You know him: He's a former member of the 90's boy group 98°, now a successful solo artist, and currently starring in the Chippendale's show (yup, you read that right) at the Rio All-Suite Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas. Jeff is straight, mind you, but totally digs his gay fans. He even did the NOH8 campaign photo, has performed at all-gay clubs, and supports Pride events around the country. Jeff talks about getting his body ready to be shirtless on stage, why he's giving his new music away for free, and whether or not he might reunite with Nick, Drew and Justin. Also featured on this zippy episode: An explanation about what the Rapture really means for you, fag; a plea for you to come see the whole Swish crew at NYC's Barracuda Lounge Sunday, May 22 featuring the lovely stylings of Miss Sherry Vine; details on all the fall TV announcements; who is and isn't running for the GOP presidential nomination and why you should care; we get deep into Dale's valley (aka The Dark Clenched Hole of Evil); the end of the Oprah show is May 25; Arnold Schwarzenegger fathered a secret baby 10 years ago; a run down of all the gay in professional sports this month; an update on Capital Pride's Street Festival entertainment lineup; and, the top news stories from Metro Weekly's Sean Bugg.
