ANIME AUGUST IS BACK BABY! We're kicking off with a bang, featuring demons, aliens, and GILFs. This is the big time now because we are talking Dandadan. Amanda and Pat are the hosts of this year's Anime August! This episode, they are joined by Dan because no way he was missing a chance to talk about this wild show. So kick back, get your conspiracy theories or demonology books ready, and hit play. Because if you know it, the theme song is already playing in your head. Dandadan is a manga and anime series about two high schoolers, Momo Ayase, a girl from a family of spirit mediums, and Okarun, an occult enthusiast. After Okarun denies ghosts and Momo dismisses aliens, they make a bet to prove each other wrong by visiting legendary paranormal hot spots, which results in both of them gaining supernatural powers after encountering overwhelming entities. They are then forced to join forces, fighting terrifying aliens, yokai, and other threats while also navigating their own burgeoning relationship and the chaotic paranormal events that engulf their lives. You can find Dandadan on Crunchyroll and Netflix, with both dubs and subs available currently, with season 2 wrapping up. The team talks about how they feel about certain voices in subs and dubs with their attachments to some or the other as well in this episode! They also talk about many other things. We are not sorry to any goblins who were hurt during the making of this episode or in the past or future. Dan also gets the chance to talk about a bit of the score that hit him personally that made the show click that it was going to become a personal favorite. It's about a piece everyone knows but not many know the name of but the show and the composer got to play with for the show in a very fun way.

“Am I Actually the Strongest?” follows Haruto, a 30-something shut-in that gets reincarnated with an absurd power that always reads “level 2, no element,” so as a baby he gets ditched in a forest who then is adopted almost immediately. When that happens he decides it is best to hide who he is so that he can  chase the quietest life possible  but instead he becomes the hero of justice. He is forced to keep up appearances to keep his little sister Char from outing him to his parents and he also gets mistaken for being a demon lord as well by demons thanks to his overwhelming aura, he also solves problems with ancient magic where is the limit is literally his imagination, so he makes literal clones, surveillance, and even jury-rigged internet back to his old world. The show leans hard on familiar OP-isekai tropes and comedy, with bits like a giant golem's sudden confession, but under uses the goddess that plays little more than an info dump. Pacing is lightning fast across just 12 episodes, fun to binge but so quickly that Jack rewatched the ending wondering if he missed something. Character growth is minimal, and a lot is fed to you on a silver platter, making it an easy “junk-food” watch. The Executioner and Her Way of Life is an interesting take on the Isekai genre. And while it starts out like a number of other ones. Where someone is summoned to another world and thus their journey begins. However in this world people are summoned all the time and always from Japan. And that is what truly sets this apart is that they are not summoned to that world for a noble reason and you get to see the side after the effects of that and how that world has changed from the summoning of people to their world . Which made this show great for us. Not only does it take that approach but it also does its own take on magic and time travel. And this one was honestly one that we enjoyed. This week we are talking about Aharen is Indecipherable Season 1 as recommended by Jeb. And it is a show that is certainly a slow burn to say the least. And by that we mean if you go by the 3 episode rule for anime then you will certainly pass this one by as it takes about 5 episodes to really grab you. That is not to say that those first few episodes are not entertaining in their own way, just that they are not enough to grab you so that you watch the whole season. But once you get past that you do find the series enjoyable but even still in the podcast we can't help but get off track and go off on some tangents mainly because the show while it did have content it just was not very wide or deep. That being said the story was pretty straight forward no surprises or anything like but we did have some questions that we know we will never get answers to but still it was fun to think about. This week are talking about Akudama Drive and honestly for us it was not that great of a show. It was not horrible but it also was not great. This anime follows a group of criminals that all literally named after what their crime or specialty is, like Courier, Brawler, Doctor, Hacker. Each character has a unique design and video game-like feel which is not to surprising since one of the creators worked for a game company. But one of the major downsides for us aside from the pacing was how predictable everything was. We also dig into the weird pacing issues, the over-the-top gore that felt gratuitous with the amount of censorship there was as well. From theatrical rollouts in the United States and around the world to the 17-million-subscriber-strong Crunchyroll streaming service to the sold-out Anime Expo in Los Angeles earlier this month, it's an enormous segment of the market that holds a deep attachment to younger audiences. This week we are talking about Vexations of a Shut-in Vampire Princess which was a recommendation from Shut In Jeb. And it was an interesting choice. The anime overall was enjoyable for both of us. But at the same time there were several questions that we had for most of the show that we watched and it was not something that we could look over. We dive into things that are not fully explained by the anime and it left Jack with a bad taste in his mouth. And for Rick there were somethings that he could not get past. But it is one that we would recommend.
