In this episode of The Grant Williams Podcast, I welcome back Andrew McDermott of Mission Value Partners for a fascinating reassessment of one of the world's most misunderstood economies. While many investors remain focused on Japan's currency, bond market, and decades of sluggish growth, Andrew argues that these headline narratives obscure a far more important story: Japan remains one of the world's indispensable industrial powers. Together, we explore how Japanese companies quietly embedded themselves deep within global supply chains after the trade tensions of the 1980s and 1990s, becoming world leaders in advanced manufacturing, semiconductors, robotics, defence systems, machine tools, and precision engineering. The discussion also examines the strategic consequences of a weaker yen, Japan's evolving relationship with the United States, and why the country's greatest investment opportunities may lie not in broad market indices but in the globally competitive industrial businesses that continue to underpin much of the modern economy. We got a special treat this week as our Aussie columnist and player housing enthusiast Sara Hanson joined the podcast. She walked us through a lot of the very recent changes to how certain player housing features work, and discusses some of the things the housing community is trying to uncover, like which pets do what when they're hanging out, now that we can add them. She also has strong opinions on transmog, much like the rest of our hosts, so they had to discuss both the new cash shop offerings and this month's Trading Post, which we got an advance preview of. And not only an advance preview, but this one will bring back a bunch of older offerings as well, for a Trading Post megamix. Also something something Mythic Raiding race, or whatever. You know we're focused on the real end game, here.We also waded through some Gamescom news, which included CD Projekt Red teaming up with Blizzard, bringing The Witcher to the Battle.net launcher — and teasing some future announcements for BlizzCon. Of course, Matt thinks this means Cyberpunk on the Battle.net launcher, but Cory isn't the only one who can huff hopium around here. But Gamescom isn't all sunshine — several projects showcased are apparently using AI heavily in their development process. If I were a sim, I would have two red minus signs above my head in Crazy Taxi's general direction right now.If you have a few minutes, please fill out our survey to tell us what you think about the podcast. Marvel Studios appears to have made some significant changes to the film for its upcoming theatrical re-release, raising questions about exactly what's different and whether these changes could have connections to Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars. With Marvel bringing one of the biggest MCU movies of all time back to theaters, Kristian discusses what fans can expect from the new Avengers: Endgame Encore version, why Marvel may have decided to alter the film, and whether the re-release is designed to help set the stage for the MCU's next massive Avengers event. What went wrong, and will audiences have a different reaction? Marvel's highly anticipated X-Men reboot also takes another major step forward, adding a cinematographer with an impressive résumé. Alpha Warrior and Josh Reid kick things off with the mystery of John Ratcliffe making an unannounced trip to Moscow, walking through why the usual explanations do not add up and what kind of message might actually be getting delivered behind closed doors. From there they build out a bigger thesis connecting Iran, the Strait of Hormuz, and a coming tokenized financial infrastructure to what they see as the real global battle over data, computation, and energy. They push back on some popular takes making the rounds about the Iran conflict, break down why the decapitation strategy mattered more than sanctions alone, and explain why every major tech player is racing to secure power for the AI buildout. Expect plenty of geopolitical deep diving, some spirited disagreement with other commentators, and the usual community shoutouts along the way.
There's a lot to unpack about the economic effects of artificial intelligence. It's clear that artificial intelligence is having a moment (to say the least) and that it has a profound impact on global GDP. But is it just a boom that will bust? Ed Zitron, author and host of the “Better Offline” podcast, is deeply worried about the long-term viability of the industry. He points out that AI lacks the basic traits that have been associated with previous software booms. This raises the question: is AI running more on unsustainable costs and vibes rather than long-term profit potential? According to Ed, the answer is clear. In this episode of The Grant Williams Podcast, I welcome back Gerard Minack back for a fascinating discussion about one of the most consequential questions facing investors today: whether AI represents a durable investment opportunity or an extraordinary technology surrounded by an increasingly fragile earnings boom. Gerard makes an important distinction between an earnings bubble and a valuation bubble, arguing that the extraordinary profits currently being generated by the companies supplying the AI buildout are real, but may prove far less sustainable than markets expect as Chinese competition intensifies, customers become increasingly price-sensitive, and margins inevitably come under pressure. From there, our conversation broadens into what happens if the AI trade cracks, why that needn't necessarily produce a US recession, and where capital might flow next. Gerard's answer leads to a compelling discussion of Japan, where improving corporate behaviour, a cheap currency, strengthening domestic fundamentals and the potential for enormous repatriation flows offer an intriguing alternative to both an expensive US market and a Chinese economy still struggling with the consequences of chronic overinvestment. In this episode of The Grant Williams Podcast, I welcome Marvin Barth of Thematic Markets back for a characteristically wide-ranging conversation about central banking, fiscal sustainability, and the intellectual frameworks underpinning modern monetary policy. Beginning with our shared admiration for the work of our mutual friend Dave Dredge at Convex Strategies, we examine the dangers of a policymaking establishment built around models that consistently underestimate fat tails, volatility clustering, and the messy realities of financial markets. That leads naturally to newly appointed Fed chair Kevin Warsh and the fascinating question of whether his emphasis on epistemic humility, accountability, and framework-based policymaking represents a genuine assault on decades of central-bank orthodoxy. From Warsh's task forces and the conspicuous absence of mainstream Neo-Keynesian economists to America's deteriorating fiscal position, term premia, Japan's changing monetary regime, and the possibility that the next sovereign crisis begins outside the United States, this is a thoughtful exploration of whether the world's most important central bank may finally be preparing to rethink the way it thinks. OG Assistant Coach Trevor Hogg returned to the Bench to host this game, which pitted Bohmbach and Dave versus Mason and Snyder. During this episode, we mused about what a Post-modern Pentathlon would entail, we learned about legendary college football coach Herman Twoadays, we got to experience a temporary team name change during halftime ("Two Masons, One Team"), we came to an agreement that there are too many initialisms, and Bohmbach asserted that he "went to school with some real Todds, not just the proverbial Todds." In October of 1991 Urban's body was discovered 70km away from where the New Zealand Police said it should be, when it was discovered up a forest road in Parakiwai, near Whangamata.Yet despite this contradictory new evidence and the eventual discovery that a key witness had committed perjury, David Tamihere was not successful in his appeals and served 21 years before being paroled in 2010.To this day Tamihere has always maintained his innocence, that he never met the Swedish couple, and he certainly never murdered them.It was almost three years ago, in December of 2023 that I released the final official episode of Season three of GUILT - Finding Heidi. This episode was the last in what had been an eight month investigation by myself to try and get to the truth, and more importantly to try and find Heidi.Since the release of that episode my work has not stopped, in fact it has amplified, as I've worked with the New Zealand Police to ensure that fresh evidence I've uncovered has been actioned appropriately with one final goal in mind, to find Heidi.Over this series of episodes which I'm calling Finding Heidi - Part Two Endgame, you're going to hear the story of this year's work, and how it led to a recent event, which I believe is the most important development in this case in 30 years..Everything you're going to hear is new, and has never been heard before. And by the end, this case will never be the same again.Guilt is a 100% Independent Podcast. Imagine playing your very first indoor bowls game, but there is no jack. Everyone simply rolls a bowl towards an imaginary target. Somehow, your experienced opponent seems remarkably confident, while you try to copy what they do and hope for the best. At the end of the first end, someone reveals where the jack had been all along and awards the points accordingly. Then the second end goes in the same fashion, with a target that no one can see. Every end, you know how well you've done, but you never have any hope of getting better. Learning to bowl that way would feel practically impossible because every bowl would be complete guesswork. Surprisingly, some board games seem to want us to learn them in very much the same way.Read the full article here: https://tabletopgamesblog.com/2026/08/11/score-in-game-vs-end-game-scoring-topic-discussion/Useful Links99% Invisible podcast, episode 673: https://99percentinvisible.org/episode/673-the-score/C. Welcome to Multiverse News, your source for information about all your favorite fictional universes.Tom Holland's fourth outing as Peter Parker/Spider-Man opened to a massively successful box office, shattering the domestic opening record previously held by Avengers: Endgame, and raking in nearly $1 billion globally in its first weekend alone - so while it beat Endgame's North American opening take, it comes in just behind it globally. Not a bad start for Disney and Marvel Studios as the conversation around superhero movies ebbs and flows in the zeitgeist. Those numbers exclude the premium IMAX format, as Spidey couldn't web up those screens due to The Odyssey still holding all IMAX screens. While Marvel is on their Spidey high, other headlines have circled the news this week - some good and some disappointing. On a positive note - Samara Weaving has reportedly been cast as Emma Frost. Horror fans will recognize Weaving from the Ready or Not films. Obsession breakout star Inde Navarette confirmed her meeting with Jake Schreier and she mentioned interest in playing Mystique. And for the bad news, Wonder Man will not get a season two after all - even though it was confirmed earlier this year - and both Kevin Feige and Maershala Ali expressed regret about the Blade film; with Feige admitting he feels like a failure for not getting it off the ground and Ali saying he's done with the project. Last week, DC Studios and HBO's Booster Gold series writer David Jenkins said that the project is no longer moving forward. Shortly after he made this statement, IGN reported that the series will, in fact, be moving forward, but with a new creative team. The New York Times reported that Barbie 2 is currently stalled, with Warner Bros. struggling to come to terms with lead talent Greta Gerwig, Margot Robbie, and Ryan Gosling. The studio has until December to reach a deal before the right revert back to Mattel. Stephen King's 1996 novel Desperation is getting a film adaptation from Final Destination: Bloodlines directing duo Zach Lipovsky and Adam B. Stein. Sam Raimi will also produce the feature, his first time working with King. Sony Pictures has released the first trailer for Jumanji: Open World, which opens in theaters on December 25. The film returns franchise stars Dwayne Johnson, Jack Black, Kevin Hart and Karen Gillan. Amazon MGM Studios is developing a Warhammer 40k animated event series alongside the upcoming live-action version, sources close to the project confirmed to Deadline. Additionally, Henry Cavill, who is set to star, is also on board to be an executive producer.Dave Bautista is in talks to take on the lead role of Kratos in Prime Video's God of War series, replacing Ryan Hurst, who had to drop out of production after he sustained an on set stunt injury. Mary Holland, Star of Ghosts and The Little House on the Prairie, has been cast in a lead role as Sandra in the upcoming DC Studios and HBO Max Superman spin off series that centers on Jimmy Olsen. In a recent interview with Inverse, Jessica Henwick revealed that she declined an offer to reprise her role as Colleen Wing in Daredevil: Born Again season three because she wants to protect the character's perfect ending in Netflix's Iron Fist.
This special episode of All Pop, No Culture is devoted almost entirely to Spider-Man: Brand New Day. Andrew gives the film a 9 out of 10, while Kevin lands at an 8.5. Both argue that it may be the strongest live-action Spider-Man movie yet and one of the best MCU releases since Endgame. The conversation covers Tom Holland's growth into a more powerful and confident Spider-Man, Sadie Sink's debut as Jean Grey, the return of the savage Incredible Hulk, Jon Bernthal's Punisher, Yelena, The Hand, Trammell Tillman's villain, Peter Parker's new abilities, and the film's spectacular action sequences. Kevin also identifies several continuity problems involving The Punisher and Daredevil, questions how Frank Castle can openly interact with police, and explains why The Hand feels underused compared with its portrayal in the Netflix series. The ending receives a full breakdown, including Ned's handshake, MJ's necklace, Jean Grey's ability to restore memories, the possibility that MJ already remembers Peter, and the mysterious figure teased in the post-credit scene. The episode then looks ahead to Avengers: Doomsday, Secret Wars, the possible MCU reset, the future of the X-Men, new casting rumors, and why Marvel may need mutants to become the center of its next era. The show closes with a brief update on X-Men '97 Season 2 and whether the current season has lost some of the impact of its first.

In October of 1991 Urban's body was discovered 70km away from where the New Zealand Police said it should be, when it was discovered up a forest road in Parakiwai, near Whangamata.Yet despite this contradictory new evidence and the eventual discovery that a key witness had committed perjury, David Tamihere was not successful in his appeals and served 21 years before being paroled in 2010.To this day Tamihere has always maintained his innocence, that he never met the Swedish couple, and he certainly never murdered them.It was almost three years ago, in December of 2023 that I released the final official episode of Season three of GUILT - Finding Heidi. On another stacked episode of Unidentified History, we try to make sense of a wild couple of weeks in Ufology. We begin by taking a detailed look at the Department of War's 4th UFO file drop. Was it a big nothing burger, as many claimed, or were there hidden gems that deserve your attention? From there, we look at a surprising entrant into the UFO space...Dr. Phil? But wait, there's more! We got news of an abrogation, of sorts, of NDA's for whistleblowers and rumors that a Disclosure speech might exist, after all. We take a look at the veil of immunity that intelligence officers and agents can wield to stiff-arm any legal challenges that might be brought against them for questionable, or even criminal, conduct. We also explore the UAPDA being passed in the House, AARO's long overdue 2025 fiscal year report, some highly suspect allegations brought by a CIA whistleblower, and Matthew Brown's responses to a lot of this. And, of course, we look at the very public dispute between Lue Elizondo and UAP Gerb, with David Grusch seemingly in the middle of it. With so much going on, one has to ask, have we entered the endgame for the Disclosure movement...or is it just the end? Tune in and make up your own mind!Once thought to be solely the stuff of science fiction, UAPs (UFOs) are very real to thousands around the world. In 2021, the US Government confirmed that leaked UAP video was legitimate. Ever since, there has been an explosion of interest in the topic. Yet, we are no closer to understanding UAPs, where they come from, or who/what is behind the phenomenon. In this series, we look to bridge the gap between the past and present by looking at some of the most important UAP sightings in history and determining whether the question of "are we alone in the universe?" might have already been answered.Chairshot Radio NetworkLaunched in 2017, the Chairshot Radio Network presents you with the best in sports, entertainment, and sports entertainment. In this clip, Alex Bilmes, CEO of Endgame, joins Revenue Builders to share what his team learned from analyzing more than 30,000 real AI workflows across go-to-market teams. The data shows AI gaining traction in account intelligence, conversation readiness, deal acceleration, pipeline inspection, and team enablement. But the larger lesson is that the strongest teams are not just using AI to generate decks, briefs, or follow-ups faster. They are using it to create shared understanding across reps, managers, executives, RevOps, and cross-functional teams. For revenue leaders, the opportunity is not simply more automation. It is connecting the organization around the same account context, methodology, and customer truth. Alex Bilmes is the CEO and founder of Endgame, a revenue intelligence platform built for go-to-market teams. This Week on the Toy Power Podcast; even though we are Celebrating our 10th Year of Podcasting; we unfortunately exhausted all our energy on the Previous SDCC Reveals & Announcements Ep. So we are giving you a ReIssue episode instead from the Vault. (Originally Posted as Ep #143 - from October 2019). Original blurb: It’s a very special ep as we’re joined by not one, but two of favourite guests in Davey Damaged and Scotty so that’s right – it’s a Homer episode! Trent takes us through a vintage retrospective look at The Addams family by Playmates. Perfectly timed for Halloween, we wonder what could have been with this short-lived line and look to the future of the franchise as a new movie approaches. What characters didn’t get made, which ones make the camera glow and where does MC Hammer fit into it all? We make the jump to Show and Tell as Davey tries to trump us all with a purchase so large, we doubt it will actually fit in his toy room! There’s some DC, MOTU and even Final Fantasy options to choose from. Frank gives a lovely tribute showing that sometimes, the value of a toy; lays in more than its sticker price. Then it’s Quiz time and with Davey onboard, anything is possible. To say this episode goes off the rails is putting it mildly – but on the plus side we learnt that Trent can’t hold his liquor, Ben thinks photos record sound, Space Jam was an event and Rick Moranis is Trent’s muse. So hold on for this crazy ride that also serves as a farewell for one of the team…Support the show: http://patreon.com/toypowerpodcastSee omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Patrick Witt, the White House's executive director for digital assets policy, calls in mid-episode to give the Chopping Block crew a live read on the CLARITY market structure bill! Welcome to The Chopping Block – where crypto insiders Haseeb Qureshi, Tom Schmidt, Tarun Chitra, and Robert Leshner chop it up about the latest in crypto. This week they're joined mid-episode by Patrick Witt, Executive Director of the President's Council of Advisors for Digital Assets, who dialed in late because he was literally chasing down bill language. First, Tarun explains how Gauntlet closed its biggest raise ever, $125M from SBI Holdings, the crypto OGs of Japan and early Ripple Labs backers, and what it cost him in suits and seven straight days of staying shaved (chairman Kitao-san reportedly listens). Then the crew dissects Balaji's Network School saga, from a Forest City ghost town in Malaysia to an immigration raid, a revoked license, and a sudden MOU-fueled pivot to Kazakhstan, with Tom's dreaded 'turkey chart' making an appearance. Finally, the main event: Patrick lays out the state of play on the CLARITY market structure bill, the August 7th recess deadline, the ~46% Polymarket coin flip, and the first-of-its-kind ethics provision, including the DOJ-versus-state-AG enforcement fight and whether crypto gets a second crack after midterms. Jim Hill and Dan Graney examine the Avengers: Doomsday poster everyone may have looked at wrong, including a nearly hidden Loki positioned at the center of the multiverse and a newly powered-up Thor. They also discuss Marvel Comics leaving New York for Burbank, Kevin Feige's apparent Spider-Man: Brand New Day spoiler, and the increasingly wild X-Men casting rumors ahead of San Diego Comic-Con. Plus, Dan challenges the online narrative surrounding Supergirl and explains why theatrical box office may no longer tell the whole story. HIGHLIGHTS • Marvel Comics prepares to leave New York City after nearly 90 years and relocate its publishing operation to Burbank. • Stephen Wacker takes over as Marvel editor-in-chief while C.B. Cebulski shifts his focus to manga and Asian publishing projects. • Loki may be hiding in plain sight at the exact center of the Avengers: Doomsday ensemble poster. • Thor's orange lightning could signal the arrival of the Odinforce and the MCU's most powerful version of the character yet. • Andy Park's final major Marvel Studios artwork carries an unexpectedly poignant Endgame connection. • Kevin Feige may have revealed Yelena Belova's surprise appearance in Spider-Man: Brand New Day. • X-Men casting rumors intensify ahead of Marvel Studios' Hall H presentation at San Diego Comic-Con. • Vision Quest gets an October release date, Élodie Yung returns as Elektra, and Nova reportedly evolves from a series into a feature film. • Supergirl, The Mandalorian and Grogu, and Masters of the Universe raise bigger questions about online negativity, streaming strategy, and how studios now measure success. Rob on Love Island Endgame The countdown to the Love Island finale is underway as Rob, Kirsten MacInnis, and Brian Scally dig into all the drama from this season's penultimate episode of Love Island USA. With only days left, family visits, shifting loyalties, and a surprise Chili's Margarita tasting take center stage. As the race narrows to the core couples, the hosts debate who deserves to win, while sampling snacks and sharing hot takes on both the Islanders and show's endgame strategies. From questioning the slowing pace leading into the finale to dissecting “situationships” and bets on the most shocking winners, the conversation covers every corner of the villa. The crew gives special attention to Sincere's controversial relationship path, the spectacle and awkwardness of villa karaoke, and theories about suspicious voting and betting schemes possibly skewing results. Reliving the highs and lows, Rob, Kirsten, and Scally deliver a blend of food, fun, and passionate Love Island debate, with a guest appearance from Peyton representing Chili's, ready to shake things up with margaritas and deep fried delights. Highlights from this lively episode include: The hosts’ takes on Sincere and Melanie's reunion, with suspicion over whether Sincere's “new leaf” truly signals change or just limited temptation The “team” dynamic of voting—debating who should make the final four and whether strategic voting or outside betting influence the outcome The breakdown of iconic (and not-so-iconic) karaoke performances, especially Kenzie and Dylan's rise and Parmida and Corbin's challenges on stage The running joke about “situationships” and the villa's tendency toward judgment and mess, even as couples lock in and the drama slows Reactions to AfterSun eliminations, calls for a shakeup in the final days, and speculation over long-distance couples like Carl and Aniya With the season's end in sight, which couple stands out as genuine contenders and which storylines are set to close on a flat note? Could surprise alliances or a sudden influx of new bombshells turn the tide in these final moments? Dive into the episode to find out who the hosts believe is coasting toward the win, who's been unfairly judged, and how this season's unique blend of strategy, romance, and karaoke debacles may shape the last days in the villa. 00:00 Introductions and Pre-Finale Energy 06:18 Sincere and Melanie Critiqued 12:14 KC and Aniya's Redemption Arc 16:41 Zach and Kayda “Closed Off” 20:51 Love Island Karaoke Breakdown 26:13 Corbin and Parmida Analyzed 32:01 Reunion Hopes and After Sun Drama 38:02 Season's Endgame Critiqued 44:12 Social Media Misinformation Exposed 50:00 Jen and Caleb's Exit Discussed 55:00 Predictions: Who Will Win? 60:00 Closing Thoughts and Next Steps LISTEN: Subscribe to the We Know Love Island podcast feed!
