This is a pattern you will recognize once you deal with enough "biblical scholars" whatever that means. They use the book to verify the book. They don't look at history from outside of what the pages say, and too much of the account is non-historical. So you get caught in a circular argument that revolves around what the book says to verify itself. That's not how that works. The writers weren't witnesses, nor do we know their names. No guy named Mark or John, etc actually wrote the portions attributed to that name. And the account was written long after the alleged occurrence. When you get into the Torah you have even less historical accuracy and a ton of similarities to Greek Mythos. We're having people dictate from a superhero comic book what we're supposed to accept as reality. It's a polished and airbrushed collection of stories heavily borrowed from the Greek to give the Yaoists some claim to a rich past they simply never had. This is a Hellenistic era writing for the Old Testament and a bizarre construct in the New. Dan McClellan in my view inadvertently makes a better case for why biblical scholars should be challenged. Danny Jones is a huge channel on YouTube.

We talk with Jabe Bloom about how building software in enterprise is a philosophical argument and how knowing some philosophy can help. What is a pharmakon, and what is the Goldilocks space of complexity. Technical debt as an example of how deterministic systems can have agency within a socio-technical system. The origin story of Jabe's model of the three economies and how it helps budgeting complexity and how it is a key to building successful platforms. Jabe currently works as a Senior Director in the Global Transformation Office at RedHat. Jabe has been transforming and researching the organizational dynamics and interactions of management, design, development, and operational excellence for over twenty years as an executive, academic and consultant. Jabe is also in the final stages of writing his PhD dissertation at Carnegie Mellon in transition design.
Pharmakon, the ancient Greek word for drug, can mean both “remedy” and “poison.” There is a close connection between poison and cure. Poison is stealthy, and takes us by surprise, whether through an unseen snake's venomous bite or a ripe apple's alluring disguise. Psychological poison glides past our defenses, pervades our being, and wounds us where we are most vulnerable. We participate in our poisoning through our own unknowing, from toxic cognitions and rigid fixations to self-doubt and self-sabotage. Poison can transform us by stinging us into building the immunity of increased consciousness and insight. Reason and objectivity can act as antidotes, allowing old attitudes to dissolve and new awareness to arise. Whether a poison is injected or ingested, we can use it for cure. Here's The Dream We Analyze: “I am "cooking up" a batch of Xenomorphs (from the movie Alien) for a "client" in an underground lab. I'm mixing chemicals in a vat, and realize I missed a step...I call the client and am reassured it will still work, it will just take some extra time. The chemicals coagulate into a pink goo. The next day, I return to the lab and see swimming in a pool of water four adolescent xenomorphs. A male lab assistant tells me "This shouldn't have worked. They mutated and can only breath flesh." I see the adolescent aliens all have a caul of pink ectoplasm over their faces. The next day, I return to the lab and there is only one xenomorph, an adult, chained as if crucified to the back wall of a cell, wreathed in shadow. I peer at it from across the cell, and a white dove appears and flies across it. The alien's claw shoots out and snatches the dove from the air and crams it into its mouth. There is a great sucking sound, and I realize the alien is breathing the dove's flesh. My vision zooms in to the alien's face. It regurgitates the dove's carcass, which inverts into a black cage of bone, and the alien screams. I am shocked awake.” GIVE US A HAND! The boys pull a Lacan and go over the 50 minute hour with our special guest Ryan, a psychonaut alchemist, as they explore the darker depths of the Pharmakon. We apologize for the electronic buzz on Ryan's mic. During the recording session, the mic cable came loose and caused an un-fixable electronic sound in the audio. We hope it isn't too distracting.

@fitnessfeelingz posted a recent Twitter thread arguing that Covid is a modern myth: https://threadreaderapp.com/thread/1465794640481857542.html By this he means not that the pathogen SARS-COV-2 is not real, but that the existence of the pathogen does not account for its manifold social and political impacts. To make sense of these, we turn to René Girard's understanding of myth as a social technology that binds societies together in response to a common enemy. We consider how Covid-19 has come to perform this function, and why its limited efficacy in this regard only spurs more ritualized responses to it. https://outsidertheory.com/girards-revelation/ https://www.washingtonexaminer.com/opinion/rene-girard-cancel-culture-and-the-logic-of-sacrifice
On this episode Erik speaks with returning guest Dr. Alvin Camba about his latest research paper "How Chinese firms approach investment risk: strong leaders, cancellation, and pushback" (link to paper)This groundbreaking research uses hundreds of in-depth interviews with top officials from China, Chinese SOEs, state-owned banks as well as Philippine and Indonesian political and economic elite to get a glimpse at how Chinese firms view the strength of a foreign leader, how that affects their investment decisions and how miscalculating strength can lead to undesirable outcomes for Chinese investors and/or State.Alvin Camba is an assistant professor at the Josef Korbel School of International Studies at the University of Denver. "What was he doing, the great god Pan, down in the reeds by the river?" With this question, the Victorian poet Elizabeth Barrett Browning opens her famous poem "A Musical Instrument," which explores nature's troubling embrace of savagery and beauty. It seems that Pan always raises questions: What is he doing? What does he want? Where will he appear next? Linked to instinct, compulsion, and the spontaneous event, Pan is without a doubt the least predictable of the Greek Gods. Small wonder that he alone in the Greek pantheon sports human and animal parts. In this episode, Phil and JF are joined by Gyrus, author of the marvellous North: The Rise and Fall of the Polar Cosmos, to capture a deity who, though he has made more than one appearance on Weird Studies, remains decidedly elusive. In Part 2 of Episode 2, we discuss the second half of this podcast's title, “Inside the Racial Pharmakon,” by explaining the term “pharmakon” and it's history in the world of philosophy. We make connections to some of the main points brought up in Part 1, connecting the tensions that Adorno theorized to some of the ideas we discuss in regard to Jacques Derrida and deconstruction. We conclude by discussing how all these different ideas have influenced contemporary understandings of race and racism, as well as antiracist theory and praxis.
The boys discuss pharmakon per Plato and the Bible, the nature of magic, shamanism and its relation to psychoanalysis and the media, hypnotism, and the ontotheology of eye contact
