High school can be tough, especially when your mom (Piper Laurie) is a religious fanatic and all the cool girls in school (Amy Irving, PJ Soles, Edie McClurg) think you eat shit. It helps when your telekinetic powers kick in with your period and and the PE teacher, Ms Collins (Betty Buckley) pities you and next thing you know, Tommy Ross (William Katt) is inviting you to prom! Mean girl, Chris Hargenson (Nancy Allen) can't have that though so along with boyfriend Billy (John Travolta), they plot to knock Carrie off her prom night pedestal. We've got a true "good for her" story for you, this week on Doom Generation. Happy Mother's Day!

Hey, hello, how was your day? “Whatever Happened to P.J. Soles,” originally released 20 years ago, has grown to become a fan-favorite Local H album, and remains the favorite of band leader Scott Lucas. In his words, “P.J. Soles” was “the work of a band that had simply ceased to give a fuck.” Scott returns to Car Con Carne to take a look back at P.J. Soles in its anniversary year, and we go track-by-track through it. Specifically, each and every one of these songs: Where Are They Now? Everyone Alive California Songs Dick Jones Money on the Dresser P.J. Soles How's the Weather Down There? Buffalo Trace Heaven on the Way Down Hey, Rita Heavy Metal Bakesale Mellowed That's What They All Say Halcyon Days (Where Were You Then?) If you're a Local H fan, or simply a fan of music deep dives, this is a can't-miss episode. I've interviewed Scott many times over the past 30 years, and this is easily my favorite of the bunch. You're listening to SONG IMPLODER — where musicians take apart their songs piece by piece and tell the story of how they were made. And then talk shit about those songs and make you embarrassed you asked about them in the first place. On this episode we conclude our examination of Local H's 5th studio album: WHATEVER HAPPENED TO P.J. SOLES? Released in April of 2004, the album marked a major stylistic departure and reevaluation for the band — paving the way for all that's come in its wake. Now on the day of a remastered re-release, we join singer/songwriter/guitarist Scott Lucas, producer Andy Gerber, and master of his domain Gabe Rodriguez to look back on the writing, recording and reception of the album that Lucas and many of the band's fans have come to see as their finest. I'm Ben Reiser.

Not to mention, four exclusive panels they attended diving deep into the eras of this iconic film series. Who knows? Maybe the boys recorded those panels and included them in this episode? (no blood on the knife when Laurie comes out of the closet...and why does she drop the knife, AGAIN?!)-Nope. So the Dr with a 6 shooter.-Nope again. -When they were showing shots of the various scenes, Mikeys knife was still on the floor in the living room, despite having taken it up stairs and Laurie used it on him.-I can def hear where Stranger Things got some musical cues from this theme. "It Was Bad, Mama. They Laughed at Me. Hold Me, Mama. Please Hold Me" . . . The Lasting Legacy of Brian DePalma's Carrie On this week's episode of WatchThis W/RickRamos, Ibrahim & I swing back to a classic of the Horror Genre, Brian DePalma's 1976 masterpiece of Suspense, Revenge, and Terror, Carrie. With a "Who's Who" of 1970's first-time talent including: Nancy Allen, Amy Irving, William Katt, P.J. Soles, and John Travolta, but the heart, soul, and pain of this film lays in the performance of (Oscar-nominated) Sissy Spacek. Spacek's scenes with Piper Laurie (her screen mother) are incredibly moving, adding to an already powerful depiction of bullying, teenage angst, and religious fundamentalism. It's great to return to a classic. Take a listen as Ibrahim & I continue our exploration of the Horror Genre. Questions, Comments, Complaints, & Suggestions can be directed to gondoramos@yahoo.com. Many Thanks.

The Give Me Five Podcast: An Uncultured Look at Pop Culture and Nostalgia
In 1979 the Ramones weren't the first choice to star in Rock N Roll High School, or the second, or the third, potentially even the fourth. They were however the best choice as they helped make this movie a fun little story about standing up to authority, rebeling and rocking out. The movie has strong performances by PJ Soles and Paul Bartel and less strong performances by Deedee Ramone, but it comes together as a fun little trip back to the early 80's. PJ Soles chats with Nicholas Vince (HELLRAISER, NIGHTBREED) about her globe trotting childhood, being cast in Brian de Palma's CARRIE, playing American teenagers, working on John Carpenter's HALLOWEEN; working with Goldie Hawn on PRIVATE BENJAMIN, Bill Murray on STRIPES and The Ramones on ROCK 'N' ROLL HIGH SCHOOL; her very special birthday gift to Rob Zombie and much more.
In this episode, Leslie and Alec discuss the 1978 and 2018 Halloween Films. On a cold Halloween night in 1963, six year old Michael Myers brutally murdered his 17-year-old sister, Judith. He was sentenced and locked away for 15 years. But on October 30, 1978, while being transferred for a court date, a 21-year-old Michael Myers steals a car and escapes Smith's Grove. He returns to his quiet hometown of Haddonfield, Illinois, where he looks for his next victims.Leslie and Alec go over the classic and iconic original and our thoughts on the latest installment in the long running franchise. Will we mention the retcon of the previous 9 other films? We sure do, so come for some halloween talk, stay for some discussion of PJ Soles.
Lucky 13 is finally here, Fright Fans!! Today's episode of Then Is Now is the final one in the 2020 series 13 Days of Hallowtober, and since it's October 31st we decided to cover the horror holiday classic, Halloween from 1978 directed by John Carpenter. Filmmaker Joe Lemieux returns to discuss this beloved picture with me, and we have a blast doing so! A classic film to be watched at least every October, John Carpenter's masterpiece of suspense and horror still holds up to this day! Since this is the final episode for 13 Days, I would like to give a special THANK YOU to all the great people that co-hosted with me including Joe Lemieux, Patsy the Angry Nerd, Chris Esper, Spency Domepiece and Squishy! We all had fun doing these shows, and everyone will return to Then Is Now in the future! On some of the films, we only had enough time to scratch the surface, so many of them will be re-visited in future episodes! As always, please leave us a great review at iTunes, Stitcher, Spotify, or wherever you download your podcasts, so others can find the show! Join the conversation on our facebook page, facebook.com/thenisnowpodcast, and visit our website havenpodcasts.com for other fun stuff including our sister show, The East Meets the West, in which we discuss Spaghetti Westerns and Shaw Brothers films! If I could, I would give this babysitter ZERO stars! She had sex in our bed, and the whole room smelled like eggs. Her boyfriend was still hanging around the kitchen when we got home, the phone was off the hook, the dog was dead, our kids were missing, and worst of all she left crumbs on the countertop! It's the most wonderful time of the year! To celebrate the ooky-spooky season, the Brides are coming at you with THREE episodes this month! And we we had to start with a trip to Haddonfield. That's right, today we're celebrating the Daddy of slasher pics, John Carpenter's Halloween! We discuss what makes this movie so good (a holy combination of acting, directing, and Debra Hill), how every victim in this film is totally likable, the ways Carpenter honors the pagan roots of Halloween in his storytelling aesthetic, and why the Rob Zombie 2007 remake ruins what makes The Shape so scary. Plus, did they really think they would get away with having Pasadena, CA, stand in for late-autumn Illinois, and does it really matter? Because this movie is AWESOME. Halloween, 1978. Directed by John Carpenter. Written by John Carpenter and Debra Hill. Starring Jamie Lee Curtis, Donald Pleasance, Nick Castle, PJ Soles, and Nancy Kyes. --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app
Happy Halloween! Dylan and Lauren kick off spooky season with a bang with an in-depth look into one of the most iconic horror movies of all time, Halloween. They're joined by Halloween virgin, Kyle, to give his first reaction thoughts to this classic (like if he'd smash or pass Dr. Sam Loomis). So call up your babysitter, find your favorite William Shatner mask, and gather your kids to trick or tread around the neighbor at approximately 2:30pm. PJ Soles, if you're reading this we love you! This time we're diving into John Carpenter's Halloween. We cover everything good and bad about one of the greatest horror films ever made. We talk about horror legends who passed on the chance to be in it and the careers it made for many of the cast and crew. What do Damon Wayans and Al Quaeda have to do with Halloween? Listen and find out.
Or, "Wait, What?" ...Dennis Quaid is allegedly in Stripes, for like three seconds, because at the time he was married to the main character's love interest, but we didn't see him, and we had a pretty hard time seeing why this was a foundational comedy-head go-to movie back in the day. Well, one of us did, because insufferable Bill Murray shtick was not adequately offset by sightings of breasts. Is this the oldest-looking 29 in film? Does John Larroquette bail out his scenes? Can we get a moratorium on jokes about sex with cows? Throw Sean Young's career in the back of a Miata and find out. This week on #HFTMH, we're discussing the 1979 movie Rock N Roll High School starring PJ Soles and The Ramones.
It's been a year, and I'm working on some other projects and have not come back for Halloween II yet. So, here is the first of several remixes of the early episodes that didn't have great sound quality. My eagerness to jump in outweighed my patience for figuring out a good mixing program. This is a much longer version of Minute 1, with two of my sisters and me talking about the Halloween houses, Solarbabies, Blood Beach, Motel Hell, Rob Zombie's remake and why the original is scary. Plus, we talk about the first few credits--Mustapha Akkad, Donald Pleasence, Jamie Lee Curtis, Nancy Loomis, and PJ Soles--as well as Janet Leigh, the final girl, and what it means to be a slut.
Michael Meyers - Return to Haddonfield On this week's episode of WatchThis W/RickRamos Ibrahim & I sit down (almost a year after our last visit to Haddonfield, IL) to continue our talk on that blank-faced masked bastard, Michael Meyers. Screenwriters Jeff Fradley, Danny McBride, and David Gordon Green (with Green directing) bring us all back to that sleepy little town to re-introduce us to Meyers. With a returning Jamie Lee Curtis as Laurie Strode (the lone survivor of the first film) and a whole new generation to murder - all in one night - audiences are reminded of the brilliance that has been with us for 40 years. Take a step into The Fortress and remember what all of the excitement was originally about. Questions, Comments, Complaints, and Suggestions can be directed to gondoramos@yahoo.com. As always, a Million Thanks!
Happy Halloween! We celebrate by talking about the amazingly perfect John Carpenter’s Halloween(of course!). Starring Jamie Lee Curtis, Donald Pleasence, PJ Soles & Nancy Loomis(Kyes) Halloween started and exemplified the slasher craze of the 1980s and we couldn’t think of a better way to usher in its 40th Anniversary and our holiday! We drink Great Lakes Brewery’s Saison DuPump while chatting Halloween and then get real with a true crime story about “The Candyman” who killed his own son and tried to kill four others on Halloween night in 1974. We hope everybody has an awesome Halloween, play safe kids!
Celebrating Halloween’s 40th anniversary, and, in anticipation of Blumhouse’s franchise revival, Horror-fix managed to catch up with the original Halloween’s P.J. Soles at this year’s Days of the Dead convention in Indianapolis. PJ was gracious enough to sit down and talk with us about the impact the film has made on her and its audience. Thanks PJ! You can listen to the full audio below with PJ and interviewer HorrorFix’s own Jim Chandler!

James Farentino stars as a derelict priest who gets a second chance at life by fighting evil. This NBC telefilm also stars Harrison Ford in a supporting role mere days before his breakout role as Han Solo. Timing is everything. This telefilm is largely forgotten compared to Star Wars, but it's a supernatural chiller that's worthy of our attention.

Settle down, See Hear listeners. Class is now in session. Tim, Sticky and Maurice take time out from dissecting frogs, picking fights with the jocks and giving lip to the principal to talk about the Roger Corman produced, Alan Arkush directed 1980 film Rock ‘n’ Roll High School. Is it just another b-grade drive in movie about teen rebellion or is there something more going on here (umm….yes there is)? This is the tale of one girl’s devotion to The Ramones, her determination for them to play a song she’s written, and her fight against the school administration who are repulsed by all things rock and roll. Who will win the battle of the wills between Mary Woronov and PJ Soles. We discuss the tradition of films and TV shows set in schools and the perception of the teacher as inspiration or villain, why the film is an open love letter to music without stylistic division, Corman’s original intentions for the movie (going even earlier than his desire to capitalise on the Saturday Night Fever craze), and how to make sure that mice don’t end up like Spinal Tap drummers. We also agree that it’s just a damn funny film. You can download the show by searching for See Hear podcast on iTunes or download from http://seehear.podbean.com/ If you dig what we do, could you please rate us at iTunes or even better, spread the word that the show exists so more folks can tune in. In this episode, movies that spurred our love of low budget cinema. Previously we looked at William Shatner's The Intruder, the Blaxploitation classic Dolemite and the Paul Bartel / Mary Woronov comedy Eating Raoul. In Episode 14 we discuss everyone's favorite breast fetishist Russ Meyer and the movie Up!, a bizarre murder mystery comedy that has a Greek chorus, a la Woody Allen's Mighty Aphrodite. "Soft-core shenanigans" and Raven De La Croix cross our radar as well. Also, the Roger Corman production Rock 'n' Roll Highschool. It features PJ Soles, who was in Halloween and the quite awful Alienator (We love Corman, especially his animals run amok flicks like The Nest and Piranha). Finally, we turn to one of our absolute favorites, the Brian De Palma helmed The Phantom of the Paradise, starring the very much alive Paul Williams (oops) which in our mind is far far superior to Rocky Horror.
Totally awesome fun time with Carrie, Rock N Roll High School and Halloween fame PJ Soles.
This week Mike and Sean take on a pair of modern teenage musicals. First up is Roger Corman's explosive Rock 'N' Roll High School, directed by Allan Arkush in 1979 and starring PJ Soles and The Ramones. Then they attempt to harmonize over 2012's instant classic about the world of competitive collegiate a cappella, Pitch Perfect, starring Anna Kendrick. Also this week: the latest in the Scarecrow Video Kickstarter campaign, a lament for the Leonard Maltin Film Guide, a look at the career of Joe Dante and remembrances of the late Robin Williams and Lauren Bacall.

Movie Meltdown - Episode 249 This week we wrap-up our month-long tribute to Halloween and horror with "live" coverage from our bloodbath double feature that was... "Meltdown Macabre"! First we talk with writer/producer Lotti Pharriss Knowles and director John Knowles, the creators of our first feature, "Chastity Bites". Then we sit down for a group discussion about our second feature, the horror/comedy/train wreck known as "Mama Dracula". It’s an epic double feature episode - to encapsulate a double feature evening. And as Marlena blinds us with science, we also discuss… Allison Scagliotti, a window into your mind, Re-Animator, social media, The Fearless Vampire Killers, Stuck on You, frontier justice, a balls out feminist, fanboy appeal, a working relationship, Louise Griffiths, Lauren Hutton, Star Wars Christmas Special, The Fly, suffused with importance, the little girl with the underwear, Claudia Donovan, having a shorthand, SyFy Channel, really embrace that inner bitch, a level of commitment, Bugs Bunny, Fred Armisen in a canoe, spraying DDT on mosquitoes, Botox, Warehouse 13, finding your people, Army of Lovers, could be drugs... could be France, spooked by Judaism, being a horror nerd, building a sense of dread, marketing your movie, the birthday shark, forensic engineering, I had problems spatially... with this movie, the jump cut case, Annie showing her panties, strong female characters, color saturation, Francia Raisa, 80’s music videos, David Lynch, two ships passing in the night, Eastern European serial killers, doing accents, Once Bitten, Nurse Ratched face, campy horror, the essence of Lotti, green roots support, when Harolds collide, keeping the world at arm's length, being past the point of being able to function, Frankenstein's monster and Lassie, Oh my god... I love PJ Soles, surreal smoke-filled bright light dark shadows swirling cameras, in a giant bird cage, head trauma, Elizabeth Bathory, Stuart Gordon, Howling 2: Your Sister is a Werewolf, accidently writing a better movie, the middle has completely fallen out, a film language made up between twins, wampires are wery fast, 60 bad movies and a box of wine, Halloween 3: Season of the Witch, sprinkling fairy dust around the set, creating gold and playing Dungeons and Dragons with porn stars. Spoiler Alert: I don’t think we can ruin “Mama Dracula”. In fact, our discussion of it kind of improves the movie. But regardless, watch it beforehand for spoiler-free listening.
