(Joseph Smith, TPJS, p. 231)   The final clash between the two great kingdoms is imminent. At present, however, they are very unequal in power. The great powers displayed by contemporary Babylon are fulfilling the desires of every conqueror and tyrant. The kingdoms of the world possess all the economic, military, and legal powers they desire. Combined together there is very little that stands in the way of this “super-power” and its “super-government.”   By contrast, the Kingdom of God has become less and less powerful. It has been mis-identified and disorganized. It has no wealth, no identity and no organized body. В регулярной рубрике BONUS TRACK классика прогрессив-хаус музыки в лице голландского супердиджея Harry Lemon aka Lemon8 и его пластинки The Only Way, вышедшей в далеком 2000 году на лейбле Basic Energy. Хочу больше познакомить вас с биографией этого великолепного музыканта и диск-жокея. Harry Lemon (именно так зовут диджея и музыканта Lemon8) родился в маленьком городке близь Роттердама, в Голландии. Гарри с раннего детства интересовала музыка, а также психология, литература и видеоигры. Однако всерьез заняться он решил все же первым. В 16 лет он играл на еженедельном собрании в центре молодежи, где впоследствии подрабатывал уборщиком. Позже Гарри некоторое время проработал в музыкальном магазине бок о бок с еще не известным тогда диджеем Тиесто (DJ Tiesto). Первым псевдонимом ди-джея был DJ Funkateer, в связи с его чрезмерным, в то время, увлечением стилями фанк и хип-хоп. Гарри даже выпустил несколько треков в стиле диско-фанк. За несколько прошедших лет у Lemon8 открывается второе дыхание и он снова заявляет о себе. Его микс "Inner Sanctuary Sessions 2002" включил в себя 20 треков, как оригиналов, так и ремиксов от самого Lemon8, доказав миру, что Гарри – не только хороший музыкант, но и отличный диск-жокей. Вошедшие в него треки тут же обратили на себя внимание. "New York, New York" был заигран до дыр на Winter Music Conference 2001 Джоном Дигвидом (John Digweed), а "Lose Control" вышел на лейбле Bedrock и даже попал в сборник лучших работ лейбла за 2002 год. Остается вспомнить "Triple Funk" и мой сегодняший бонусный трек "The Only Way" – интересно, есть ли такие прогрессив хаус диджеи, которые эти композиции не играли? После значительного карьерного подъема Гарри взял маленький тайм-аут и вплоть до 2003 года ничем не радовал своих поклонников. 2003 год начался с ремиксов на Against The Grain – "Further", вышедший на Screen Records, а также на Holguin & Baund – Rambla (вышедший на Basswalk). Кстати, работать с американским лейблом Basswalk он стал после того, как разорвал контракт с голландским Basic Beat (Basic Energy). В этом же году Гарри решил обратиться к "народному стилю" Голландии - трансу и написал отличнейший трансовый ремикс на Origine – "Sanctuary" (который я еще обязательно поиграю в рамках своего радиошоу), тем самым отметив открытие своего нового трансового лейбла Bandung Records. Даже сегодня, спустя десятилетия, Гарри не изменяет выбранному пути, работает с музыкой, пишет новые треки и ремиксы в хаус и прогрессив направлении. Harry Lemon (именно так зовут диджея и музыканта Lemon8) родился в маленьком городке близь Роттердама, в Голландии. В 16 лет он играл на еженедельном собрании в центре молодежи, где впоследствии подрабатывал уборщиком. После значительного карьерного подъема Гарри взял маленький тайм-аут и вплоть до 2003 года ничем не радовал своих поклонников. 2003 год начался с ремиксов на Against The Grain – "Further", вышедший на Screen Records, а также на Holguin & Baund – Rambla (вышедший на Basswalk). What are some Inspection Blunders you have Seen and how Sellers watch out for them?1. Inspectors are NOT licensed in the state of CO2. For our Errors and Omission Insurance to be Valid, we as licensed agents CANNOT let an unlicensed person go in the house on their own…yet...●Weekly, I get requests from agents asking if we can give out the code to let inspectors spend 3 hours in someone’s home touching every system on their own without an escort. Not only is this behavior a license law violation but it invalidates our insurance!●I’ve caught agents, going to the home, letting them in THEN LEAVING DURING THE INSPECTION●I’m not sure what agents have to do other than represent their clients (of which they are getting thousands and thousands of dollars to do… but not attending to their buyer’s due diligence, to me, is a failure to represent the client.●As a result, if the seller is NOT present during the inspection, we staff the inspection with our team to represent the seller during the inspection.●The state contract to Buy and Sell Real estate says… Buyer acknowledges that Seller is conveying the Property to Buyer in an “As Is” condition, “Where Is” and “With All Faults.” BUT…3. Ever since I realized we were outnumbered, I have been keeping my eyes open for my generational peers. We are harder and harder to find – for reasons that are not entirely clear to me. (How can there only be one Gen X-er in EVERY office? Don’t some Gen X-ers work together? Where IS everyone?) But my sense is that we’re all doing this keeping our eyes open for each other now, to some degree. I can’t imagine how frightening it must have been watching as Ananias and Sapphira fell to the floor dead. What was going on? Where was the fear of the Lord in the church? The church in Jerusalem was experiencing a mighty our pouring of the Holy Spirit. Miracles and signs and wonders were happening. Thousands were coming into the Kingdom of God. The church was impacting the city. A significant part of the work taking place was the care for the elderly, the orphan and the poor. Church members were even selling real estate and bringing the entire equity to the church for distribution to the needy. In short, the church was being what the church was supposed to be. This couple wanted in on the recognition. Ananias and Sapphira sold a portion of their property and brought an offering to the Apostles. Ananias said they were giving the whole equity as an offering to help the poor and the needy. In fact, it was only a portion of the equity. When questioned by the Apostle Peter, Ananias said it was the whole. The man fell dead. It was only a brief few moments when Sapphira arrived. The Apostle Peter asked her the same question. She answered in the affirmative. She also fell dead. “Great fear came upon all the church and upon all who heard these things. “Great fear came upon all the church and upon all who heard these things” (Acts 5:11 NKJV). Ananias and Sapphira had a religious form without the power of the Holy Spirit. The fear of the Lord was not shaped in their spiritual life. This is one of the unique characteristics of the manifest presence of God upon His church; a strong fear of the Lord. Where Is the Fear Of the Lord In the Church? The concept of the fear of the Lord is absent from the present church culture. In past generations there was a healthy fear of the coach, dad and mom, teachers, and leaders in the community. You always called them "mister". It was never a first name basis; after all "that is Mr. Smith, the bank manager or Mr. Baker the principle, the football coach, or the math teacher." Today, it’s all on a first name basis. The coach is supposed to be your buddy. Mom and dad are supposed to be friends with the kids. After all children have their rights. Employees, employers, average citizen and community leaders are all equal. When that healthy fear is removed from society; when it is absent from the heart of a child or a teenager, there is no fear for the position of those who have weight or significance in the community or in the family. It takes the heart out of family and out of the community leaving a vacuum of honor and respect. When the fear of the Lord is absent from the heart of a disciple and from the spirit of the church there is a loss of reverence for the sacred and the holy. There is a decline in the purity of the heart. Fear of the Lord is full recognition of His nature; God is omnipotent, omniscient, and omnipresent. It is full recognition of His authority; God is absolutely sovereign. Such recognition brings a trembling in the heart. It is not cowering before Him but reverence for who He is and His authority over my life. The child of God has a holy trembling that balanced by deep love for Heavenly Father. There is a healthy fear of His authority and power balanced by certain trust in Father’s love, mercy and grace. The fear of the Lord is not optional equipment for the true disciple of Jesus Christ. "And now, Israel, what does the LORD your God require of you, but to fear the LORD your God, to walk in all His ways and to love Him, to serve the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul, and to keep the commandments of the LORD and His statutes which I command you today for your good?” (Deuteronomy 10:12-14 NKJV). “You shall fear the LORD your God; you shall serve Him, and to Him you shall hold fast, and take oaths in His name” (Deuteronomy 10:20 NKJV). Persistent disrespect to parents, supervisors or community leaders is a certain sign there is little honor for authority in that person’s heart. They believe themselves to have equal voice and equal authority. When you see persistent disobedience to God’s Word in the life of a believer there is little or no fear of the Lord. They may say otherwise but deep in their heart they insist on having final authority. This absence of the fear of the Lord holds great danger to the church and to our nation. Dr. Funkenstein, a.k.a, Star Child: Singer, songwriter, bandleader, and record producer.    Born in Kannapolis, NC, he grew up in Plainfield, New Jersey. Clinton became interested in doo wop during the early ’50s. Basing his group on Frankie Lymon & the Teenagers, Clinton formed The Parliaments in 1955, rehearsing in the back room of a Plainfield barbershop where he straightened hair. The Parliaments released only two singles during the next ten years, but frequent trips to Detroit during the mid-’60s – where Clinton began working as a songwriter and producer – eventually paid off their investment. The Parliaments finally had a hit with the 1967 single “(I Wanna) Testify”. But his label ran out of money and George refused to record any new material. When the label was bought out by Atlantic, Clinton decided to abandon the Parliaments name rather than record for the major label and record the same band under a new name: Funkadelic. (In 1970 he regained the rights to The Parliaments name) Inspired by Motown ‘s assembly line of sound, He gradually put together a collective of over 50 musicians and recorded during the ’70s both as Parliament and Funkadelic. While Funkadelic pursued band-format psychedelic rock, Parliament engaged in a funk free-for-all, blending influences from the godfathers (James Brown and Sly Stone) with freaky costumes and themes inspired by ’60s acid culture and science fiction. He is regarded, along with James Brown and Sly Stone, as one of the foremost innovators of funk music. He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1997, alongside 15 other members of Parliament-Funkadelic.   Key Artist   Kool & the Gang, "Best Band Ever!?!?"   Formed in Jersey City, New Jersey in 1964 by brothers Robert "Kool" Bell and Ronald Bell. They have explored many musical styles: jazz, soul, funk, rock, and pop music. After three albums, the band had commercial success with Wild and Peaceful (1973) which contained the US top ten singles "Jungle Boogie" and "Hollywood Swinging". They reached a commercial peak between 1979 and 1986 following their partnership with Brazilian musician Eumir Deodato and the addition of singer James "J.T." Taylor to the line-up. Their most successful albums of this period include Ladies' Night (1979), Celebrate! (1980), and Emergency (1984), and the hit singles "Ladies' Night", "Celebration", "Get Down on It", "Joanna", and "Cherish". The band continues to perform to this day.   Open Comments:   Question: What makes a track funky?   Movie Scene - Royal Black Hollywood Strikes Back   Both movies were deliberate attempts to counter the Blaxploitation movement.   Claudine - "The Poverty Technician" (Plot)   The film tells the story of Claudine Price (Diahann Carroll), a single Black Harlem mother, living on welfare with six children, who finds love with a garbage collector, Rupert Marshall (James Earl Jones), whom she calls "Roop". The pair's relationship becomes complicated because of several factors. Among these are that the couple do not want to marry because they would not be able to support the children without welfare, and that the kids themselves, particularly eldest son Charles (Lawrence Hilton-Jacobs), are apprehensive of Rupert, and believe that he will leave their mother just like her previous husbands had. Claudine and Rupert meet while both are at work. Rupert asks Claudine out on a date with him and Claudine accepts. When Rupert becomes invited inside Claudine's apartment, the children are rude and vulgar towards Rupert. This is also the first time the audience meets the children and sees the inside of Claudine's slum-like apartment. Later, in the film, the audience finds out that Claudine receives financial aid from the government through the welfare program. Throughout the film, Miss Kabak, the social worker, visits Claudine at her home and asks her if she is employed and if she is dating anyone. Claudine always denies Miss Kabak the truth and lies to her about being unemployed and single. If Claudine tells the truth and says that she is employed, the amount of financial aid she receives from the welfare program would decrease or she could also no longer receive any more financial aid. If Claudine dates anyone and receives gifts from her boyfriend, the social worker must deduct any money or gifts Claudine is receiving from whomever she is dating. Just before he is to announce his engagement to Claudine to the kids, Rupert is served papers for a court order relating to underpayment of child support of his own children; his work wages are garnished to pay the difference. Rupert becomes so upset about this that he disappears for a couple of days and loses contact with everyone. He moves out of his apartment, does not show up to work, and does not show up to the Father's Day celebration the children had prepared for him. Charles eventually finds him drunk at a bar and angrily confronts him. Charles is angry at Rupert because he left his mother without any explanation. Out of the anger Charles felt for Rupert, he engages in a physical fight with him. After the incident at the bar, Rupert eventually shows up outside of Claudine's apartment and speaks to her. After some time, the couple talk things over and make up. After several hardships and debating over whether they should marry because of financial issues relating to welfare, the couple decide to marry. They hold a wedding ceremony, but it is interrupted when Charles runs inside the apartment in the middle of the ceremony while the police are chasing after him. The couple and the rest of the children run after Charles, leave the ceremony, and board the police wagon. The film ends on a cheery note with the entire family, along with Rupert, walking happily hand in hand through the neighborhood.   Question: Should welfare be (a) reformed or (b) avoided? What would a or b look like?   Conclusion: Regardless of the message, Gladys' music was on hit (3rd #1 R&B LP) and Diahann Carroll was great, she was nominated for Best Actress at the Academy Awards in 1975.   Uptown Saturday Night - "The Good Guys (Sidney & Bill) Get Over" (Plot)   While enjoying themselves at Madame Zenobia's club on Saturday Night, Steve Jackson (Poitier) and Wardell Franklin (Cosby) are held up by robbers who raid the club, taking Steve's wallet as a result. Upon realizing that a winning lottery ticket worth $50,000 is in the wallet, they set out to find the crooks themselves. Determined to retrieve the ticket, they search for it using the help of gangster Geechie Dan Beauford (Belafonte), who wants to defeat his rival Silky Slim (Lockhart). Using their wit, perseverance, and fearlessness, Steve and Wardell devise a plan to get the ticket using the help of both gangsters, in the hopes that it will pay off for them.   Question: Is this truly anti-Blaxploitation or just another version?   Television Scene - A Tale of 2 Black Families   That's My Mama, "Warm and Fuzzy" (1 season, 1974-75) (Plot)   Set in a middle-class African American neighborhood in Washington, D.C., the program revolved around the character Clifton Curtis (played by Clifton Davis), a man in his mid-20s who worked as a barber at Oscar's Barber Shop, the family barber shop he had inherited from his late father. While Clifton enjoyed being a bachelor, his loving, but tart-tongued and opinionated mother Eloise "Mama" Curtis, played by Theresa Merritt, wanted him to settle down and find a nice wife. Additional characters – such as Clifton's two best friends—Earl, played by Teddy Wilson, an easy-going mailman and Junior, played by Ted Lange, a suave and good-humored ladies' man—came and went over the course of a typical day at Oscar's Barber Shop. Other characters included Tracy, Clifton's little sister, played by Lynne Moody and later by Joan Pringle and her husband, Leonard, played by Lisle Wilson, as well as local seniors Josh and Wildcat, played by DeForest Covan and Jester Hairston. Clifton Davis and Hairston would work together again years later in the hit sitcom, Amen.   Conclusion: Never a ratings success.   Good Times, "Classic" (6 seasons, 1974-1979) (Plot)   Florida and James Evans live in a Chicago housing project and have three children: James Jr., also known as "J.J."; Thelma; and Michael, called "the militant midget" by his father due to his passionate activism. When the series begins, J.J. is seventeen years old, Thelma is sixteen, and Michael is eleven. Their exuberant neighbor, and Florida's best friend, is Willona Woods, a recent divorcée who works at a boutique. Their building superintendent is Nathan Bookman. The characters originated on the sitcom Maude. Episodes deal with the characters' attempts to overcome poverty. GT was intended to be a good show for Esther Rolle and John Amos. Both expected the show to deal with serious topics in a comedic way while providing positive characters. However, J.J. became the breakout character.  As a result, the writers focused more on J.J.'s comedic antics instead of serious issues. Through seasons two and three, Rolle and Amos grew increasingly disillusioned with the direction of the show. Rolle was vocal about it: "He's 18 and he doesn't work. He can't read or write. He doesn't think. The show didn't start out to be that...Little by little—with the help of the artist, I suppose, because they couldn't do that to me—they have made J.J. more stupid and enlarged the role. Negative images have been slipped in on us through the character of the oldest child." Jimmie Walker was the only cast member to not show at Rolle's funeral. Amos also spoke out: "The writers would prefer to put a chicken hat on J.J. and have him prance around saying "DY-NO-MITE", and that way they could waste a few minutes and not have to write meaningful dialogue." Amos was ultimately fired after just 3 seasons.   [Audio Clip]   Open Comments:   Question: Did/do you know anyone in real life like J.J.?   Conclusion: They didn't recast James Evans, they just killed him off and Esther was playing a single mom after all. What does it mean to you to be part of a team? Are you currently part of a team? Where? Is that team “united” or “untied”? During your lifetime, what is the best team you’ve ever been a part of and what is the worst team you’ve ever been a part of? What made the teams so good or so bad? Can you use this knowledge to make any current teams you are a part of better? Oftentimes in traditional churches, the term “committee” is used when talking about a group of people working together at the church. At Connection we like to use the word “team” instead. What images come to mind when you hear committee? When you hear team? Is there much difference? Are you currently part of a team at Connection? Is the team “united” or “untied”? What is it that is making it one or the other? If you feel it is more “untied,” is there anything YOU can do to change that? How about your home team? Is that team “united” or “untied”? If you answered “untied,” what can you do to change that? If “united,” what is it that makes it united and how can you help that to continue?
