Christina Miller, MD, FACEP, is double board-certified in emergency and integrative medicine. After spending ten years in the emergency department and serving as president of Colorado ACEP (American College of Emergency Physicians), she radically changed her practice to health promotion, due to her own health concerns and being overwhelmed by the amount of chronic disease and illness seen in the ED. She studied nutritional science and plant-based nutrition, completed a fellowship in integrative medicine, and now focuses exclusively on nutrition and lifestyle changes to get to the root cause of disease and illness, while promoting wellness and longevity in each individual. Instead of treating emergencies in the ED, she is now helping to prevent and reverse chronic illnesses and empower people to live with vitality. She enjoys teaching plant-based, nutrient-dense cooking classes to both groups and individuals, and helped establish a free clinic outside of Aspen, Colorado for the underserved. She lectures locally, has spoken around the country with Younger Next Year best-selling author Chris Crowley, as well as in corporate wellness programs promoting good nutrition and healthy lifestyle. She has contributed significantly to the nutrition chapter for the American College of Emergency Physicians (ACEP) handbook and wrote wellness-promoting tips for the emergency physician. She is founder of Eat and Live Healthfully website and blog and served as the medical director of Aspen Valley Hospital creating their Integrative Medicine program. She was also selected to be a member of the Pitkin County Board of Health, where she helped with policy and public health concerns. In 2019, she moved to New Hampshire, worked at an integrative clinic in Vermont seeing patients, teaching classes, giving lectures, and reaching out to the local community. She is now proud to be part of the start-up company, Plantbasedtelehealth.com, offering plant-based telemedicine services to patients across the country, reaching people who otherwise wouldn't have access. Her goal is to continue to share the information and the resources necessary to help empower people to take back their health, prevent and even reverse chronic illness, and create long-lasting true health and vitality. One of her favorite mantras is, “Together we are healthier”. On a personal note, I also have my own story, as I was diagnosed with lupus in 2009,. I had initially presented with joint pains, which rapidly progressed to heart, lung, blood vessel, and kidney involvement. I was on 6 medications, including high dose prednisone and immunosuppressants, and chemo drugs. I had to quit my job in the ER at this time, because I was so immunocompromised. It was a very depressing and dark time in my life, and I was scared for my health. This is when I googled diet for lupus patients, and learned about plant-based whole food diets. I transitioned immediately after learning about it, but my healing was still a long course. I was not one of those people who went plant-based and all of my medical problems went away. I tweaked the diet quite a bit to a full autoimmune healing diet, developed a comprehensive mind-body program to calm my nervous system and stress hormones, improved my sleep, and made other lifestyle adjustments. I also had to eliminate toxins completely and overhaul many aspects of my life. It's been quite a journey, and I live a very different, much more awake, aware, and present life, for which I'm ultimately grateful. This is what I am so passionate, about and what I work so hard to share with my patients. I am very grateful for you inviting me to come speak with you and share the importance of diet, lifestyle, community, and maintaining hope as people heal from chronic illness, as well as about our new telemedicine practice at plantbasedtelehealth.com, where we get the opportunity to reach patients all over the country. www.eatandlivehealthfully.com

In this episode I discuss two chapters on the cellular level from the book Younger Next Year. where Dr Henry S. Lodge writes about the natural decay that is ongoing day and night which helps us shed old cells, provides opportunity to rebuild new bone, muscle and every other system of the body on a regular basis. The kicker though, if you don't trigger the rebuilding process through healthy stress such as exercise. You are literally decaying. Unfortunately in modern day society we are so familiar with the effects of decay that we've normalized it as a part of aging but aging is different from decay.Purchase your copy of Younger Next Year from Amazon AudibleSign up for our newsletter to get exclusive content at BronsonWilks.comStart recording high quality audio and video with SquadcastStart your own podcast for free with BuzzsproutGo to Tubebuddy.com/BronsonWilks for help ranking your youtube videos. Training Women in Menopause? Are You More Ageist Than You Think?

Fitness Marketing Mastery

Play Episode Listen Later Jun 1, 2022 20:05

I think training women in menopause comes with a responsibility. If it's our mission to serve them, then we're tasked with the need to call out them… and us… when we're misfiring ageist messages.   00:00 I think we can agree with this:  Age doesn't matter. It's ability.   But age will matter as long as clients say, and you give validation to:   I'm _____ (age) what exercise should I be doing? You look great for your age!  I just can't do that any longer at my age.  After menopause, you need to take it easier.   None of the answers to those questions is founded in science or legitimized by anything but years of conditioning and habit. How you answer unless you're schooled in the science of muscle, bone, fat, and metabolism for women over 40 wouldn't be anything more than your conditioning and opinion, or maybe a desire to sell something.    We're not immune to ageism though, especially if you hear a question or statement like one of these are immediately are forming an answer… INSTEAD of stopping the conversation right there and talking about the impression they have falsely acquired.   03:16 The Real Conversation   If you're training women in menopause, you unintentionally could be falling into this trap. And it's not your fault… until well, now.    Because once you know, if you think like me, if you have the ability, you have the responsibility to change it.    You are either the change or a part of the problem.     If training women in menopause comes with a responsibility to know beyond the basics of exercise prescription (and of course it does), then we have to think more closely about our own use of messages in conversation with clients, including reaching them on social media.   Let me give you some more examples of potential ageism.    Book titles and hashtags and program names all fall into this gray area that takes some dissection.    Younger Next Year  #foreveryoung  #agingbackwards #aginginreverse #reverseaging  #turnbacktime #turnbacktheclock  #antiaging   I've recently shared (something you want to know more about if you share resources with your audience) C60 Purple Power with my audience. I'm using it (I don't share anything I don't use and then share the actual experiment with my audience).    It's a carbon molecule that has been found to be able to influence many things associated with aging. Among those are not only restoring libido, and mitochondria production, but wrinkles, fine lines, and graying.    So, I wonder, even in that, if I'm ageist if we seek to turn back the clock to a time when we didn't have gray hair (for me, unfortunately, that would be 26!), or wrinkles… then aren't we trying to defy aging instead of embracing it?   07:23 Is that ageism?   There are other virtues of the C60 product that support energy, vitality, and physical performance improvement rather than accepting a decline that “naturally” occurs with aging.  Isn't that, of course, beneficial to sustain or increase mitochondrial production if it can be done without medication, and simply by exercise, even an intermittent fasting, window, and the support of C60?   Is wanting to age better, ageism?    I don't think so. I want to hear from you though.    I know there may be listeners who would say that you don't have a hormone problem if your hormones are flatlining after menopause. You might say, that's normal.    But… is normal and common acceptable? What about optimal? When did we start saying average is okay?    If it's possible with bioidentical hormones, use of C60, or other products that are not medication with negative side effects, to have profound effects on your health, is that ageism?    Let's look at some other words associated with age.  10:23 Neutral or Positive Age-Related statements:  Every age Any age Change the way we age Change the way we think about aging, which is the entire philosophy behind Flipping50.    Change the way we age, by the way, is the tag line for the International Council on Active Aging. So, do give credit where it's due in using it.   11:11 Consider These Positive or At Least Not Negative Phrases: Active aging Older wiser Age is irrelevant (a podcast title by Helen Fritch, by the way, please also give credit)  Older fitter stronger – a book by Margaret _______________  Faster After 50 – a book by Joe Friel Proaging    Even hashtags and statements like #nevertooold … when you think about it. The statement makes old, and bad. It's bizarre if you think too deeply about it. But there is a mild connotation with old being negative.    Of course, the recovery you'll say is, no, it's saying you're never going to be that. But again, that suggests that old is something you never want. And I don't know about you, but I think we're not going to win that game. I like to ask questions when I'm with clients that I know the answer to… or at least know the answer to the answer they tell me.   13:33 Actions for You:  Review your last 2 weeks of emails, posts, or videos  Look for hashtags or statements you made Do you like your message? Anything you want to change?    I'd love to hear from you. And this is a great conversation starter with your clients! None of us realizes we do this intentionally.    The way a woman wants to age is her business. And our goal shouldn't be to change her. Just to allow the way we each choose to age, and how we choose to get there to be just fine. If we ask, did she have work done? What's she using?   Or say, I would never do that, or I think she looks so fake… we really should on everyone. I was at a restaurant with two friends recently and when the waitress walked away, one said, “Was that a bad botox job or what?” I didn't notice it. So therein lies the differences we all have to what is acceptable… but yet, an opportunity to say, if she likes it, then go her!  Why not celebrate the woman in a green dress even if you hate green, or the one wearing the mini that you would feel slutty in? If she likes it, she feels confident in it, do we really want to judge?    Whether age or otherwise, training women in menopause will bring you an opportunity not just to change the sequence of exercises and diets for the better, but to change acceptance and peace within ourselves that makes this a better world.    BTW, when you see me do something with an ageist slant, it's all fair, ask me about that. We won't make this flip overnight, any of us.    Resources:  Flipping 50 Menopause Fitness Specialist  https://www.flippingfifty.com/specialist More Midlife Clients in 5 Days https://www.flippingfifty.com/midlife-clients     Other Episodes You Might Like:  Women's Fitness, Health, & Hormones | Training Menopause: https://www.fitnessmarketingmastery.com/hormone-course/  20 Tips to More Midlife Fitness Clients Post Pandemic | #319: https://www.fitnessmarketingmastery.com/more-midlife-clients/

Younger Next Year was a very fun read. One of the authors is an M.D. and the other was one of his patients. They each give their take on why these principles of exercise, connection and a cause are so important as well as diet. Exercise is the most important for longevity and a maintaining a high quality of life into your 80s and beyond. Aging is not a choice however decay is. When we live a sedentary lifestyle we are literally in decay but we can reverse that by triggering the C10 rebuilder cells by stressing our bodies with exercise.Purchase your copy of Sean's book Being Unstoppable from AmazonStart recording high quality audio and video with SquadcastStart your own podcast for free with BuzzsproutGo to Tubebuddy.com/BronsonWilks for help ranking your youtube videos. Let’s Get Physical: Maintaining Your Strength and Mobility

Retirement Answer Man

To rock retirement, you have to have the right tools, and the most important tool you have is your body. To keep up your strength and mobility your body needs to be fine-tuned. On this episode of Retirement Answer Man, we continue discussing your physical health. You’ll learn what you can do to maintain your strength and mobility so that you can rock retirement.  What is mobility? Mobility means having healthy muscles, bones, and joints so that you can freely move about. In retirement, it is important to have the mobility to do all the typical things you have to do and also so you can enjoy your favorite hobbies. Staying healthy and fit isn’t the same now as it was in your 20s. Back then you exercised to keep up your good looks, but now, exercise is critical to maintaining mobility so that you can rock retirement and do all of the things you want to do. Health and fitness can be your job in retirement Many people struggle without the routine of work to keep their life in balance in retirement. In the book, Younger Next Year, the author, Chris Crowley, makes the argument that you should make health and fitness your job in retirement.  This is an interesting idea that I want you to consider since exercise can provide you with not only structure but goals and rewards as well. When you devote time to your health you can see measurable results. Added to that, exercise can provide you with a social outlet and an ability to connect and work with other people. It can even draw you closer to your partner as you both work to attain your goals.  This important job can become the center of your life now that you won’t have the busyness of work life. It may even help give you a new identity to help you transition from your work-related identity. What do you think about making health and fitness the center of your life in retirement? How to build a body to support you to do all the things you want to do You may have heard that you can lose up to 50% of your muscle mass by the time you are 50. However, the aged muscle can be repaired if you are willing to work to maintain it. It is important to build a plan with your doctor and you may want to include a personal trainer and nutritionist to help you build that plan.  You’ll also want to work on increasing your flexibility. Your muscles get shorter as you get older causing your flexibility to decline. This can reduce your range of motion and lead to back pain, joint issues, and bad balance. Listen in to hear what apps you can use to help you maintain your exercise plan in retirement.  Be sure to check out this week’s 6-Shot Saturday email newsletter! Make sure that you are signed up for 6-Shot Saturday this week. Not only can you complete our annual listener survey, but we’ll have a link to a study guide for you to follow while you read the book, Younger Next Year. Welcome to Cloverleaf Chiropractic Show. Today, what we're going to do is talk about what kind of changes can we make to become younger next year. So the title of my talk is “Younger body next year.” So what are some of the things we can do to make our body healthier?Welcome to the Cloverleaf Chiropractic Show, a podcast advocating wellness, life and healing from within. With 38 years in practice, 50,000 patients and over 1 million chiropractic is adjustments, here's your host, Dr. Daniel Abeckjerr. My name is Dr. Daniel Abeckjerr. I'm a Doctor of Chiropractic. Stay tuned for “Younger body next year, how can we be healthier next year.”I was reading a book called Younger Next Year, the friend of mine told me to read this book, that it would really help as far as you know, making your health different. And what the book talks about is that basically if you do certain things, in one year from now, your body is going to be a lot healthier, and you're going to be a lot younger within a year's time. So what the book says is that 70% of the normal problems of aging and weakness and sore joints and bad balance can be changed, can be put off, can be reversed. It says basically, that we can eliminate 50% of the illnesses that we have and the injuries that we have, and that we can be functionally younger every year that we take care of ourselves, in the next 5-10 years, you'll see a tremendous change in your health and your body. And that you can have more vitality, and that you can enjoy life more. So the messages really really simple is that if you learn to train for some of the things that you can do in life, you're going to be having fun in life, and you're going to really enjoy life more. So I did read the book and it explained a lot of things. And basically, it's all simple. It's all mathematics you know, 1 and 1 is 2; bottom line. You add 1 on 1, and then at the end of the year, you're going to have 2. But if you do the opposite, if it's 1 minus 1, then you're going to be at the same level. Or if it's 2 minus 1, you're going to be behind, you're going to fall behind. So when it comes to health, you have to do things in life to make things better. So the analogy that I'll like to use is the concept of money. Imagine if you went to the bank every day and deposited $10 every day. At the end of the year, you would have close to $4,000 in the bank. If you did that for 10 years, at the end of 10 years, you'll have $40,000.  If you do that for 40 years, at the end of 40 years, you're going to have $160,000 in the bank, and you're going to be sitting in pretty good shape. Well, if you imagine if you did the opposite, if you took away $10 every day from the bank, from your bank account, at the end of the year, you're going to be in the minus 4000. By the end of the 10 years or the end of 40 years, you're going to be in the minus $40,000 or at the end of 40 years, you're going to be in the minus $160,000.So use that for your health. Imagine doing something positive every day for your health, what would happen in a year from now? So what are some of the things we can do to become healthier? For example, the diet, right? If Eat healthy and you do that every day, you eat instead of eating potato chips, you eat carrots or you eat healthy food like vegetables and fruit. Or exercising, if you did some exercise every day and you made it your goal to do something every day. With this quarantine going on these days, one of the things that I did is I decided to do something every day to exercise. So I took advantage of the time that we had, and basically I did something with it. But imagine doing that all the time, exercising every day going to the gym or doing whatever it is that you'd like to do, or eating healthy or doing some of the things that can make you better. As the doctor of chiropractic, I get a lot of patients that come to my office. And one day I had

In this episode of Veggie Doctor Radio, I talk with Dr. Chris about lifestyle telemedicine and how it might be able to help so many. If you are wishing you could get a consult from an intelligent and well-trained plant-based physician to help you prevent or potentially reverse disease, your opportunity has arrived!   About featured guest: Christina Miller, MD, FACEP, is double board-certified in emergency and integrative medicine. She is now proud to be part of the start-up company, Plantbasedtelehealth.com, offering plant-based telemedicine services to patients across the country, reaching people who otherwise wouldn’t have access. Her goal is to continue to share the information and the resources necessary to help empower people to take back their health, prevent and even reverse chronic illness, and create long-lasting true health and vitality. One of her favorite mantras is, “Together we are healthier”.     Dr. CHRIS MILLER https://plantbasedtelehealth.com   Disclaimer: The information on this blog, website and podcast is for informational purposes only. We continue our series today based on the book, “Unloading the Overload: Stress management for Christians” (https://www.amazon.co.uk/Unloading-Overload-Christian-Managing-Stress/dp/189974617X/ref=sr_1_fkmr0_1?keywords=%E2%80%9CUnloading+the+Overload%3A+Stress+management+for+Christians%E2%80%9D+by+Chris+Powell+and+Graham+Barker.&qid=1557228534&s=gateway&sr=8-1-fkmr0) by Chris Powell and Graham Barker. Today we explore the issue of exercise and diet. How do our nutrition and fitness effect our times of quiet with God - or not. I should begin by stressing that none of the advice here is given by a medical professional. I’m simply speaking from my own experience and reading. That having been said, let’s explore this topic. Does what we consume and how we look after our bodies make a difference to the quality of our connection with God? I’ll lay my cards on the table. I believe the answer is, “yes”. It is insofar as it is within our control to choose what we eat and drink and how often, and have any significant influence over the health of our bodies. I believe the care and nurturing of a physical state has an impact on the spiritual. It is not correct to see the spiritual and the physical as being of completely different domains and having no impact on one another. We are not simply souls which temporarily inhabit a broken and corrupted flesh. It should be borne in mind that we will have a body in the next life.  The apostle Paul puts it well: “Therefore, since we have these promises, dear friends, let us purify ourselves from everything that contaminates body and spirit, perfecting holiness out of reverence for God.” (2 Corinthians 7:1 NIV11) Our bodies were made for physical action. God intended us to look after what he had created (Gen 2.15). This involved and still involves hard work. Our bodies react positively to physical exercise helping us to produce chemicals which provide natural feelings of well-being.  God made us this way. When we denigrate our bodies, or minimise the significance of a reasonable level of physical fitness, we deny ourselves gifts that God is offering. To do such a thing must have a deleterious effect on our connection with the father. Let me share some personal experiences.  Exercise I find prayer walks very significant in my relationship with God. On occasion I enjoy sitting still and meditating in prayer, but prayer walking is a staple for my quiet times. However, I have dodgy knees. So far I’ve had six operations on my two knees. They creak, and, if I don’t take care of them, cause significant pain. Not too long ago I was in severe pain and could not walk much at all. It had a very negative effect on my connection with God. I decided to take things more seriously. I did further research and discovered that it might be helpful to take glucosamine regularly and drink pomegranate juice. The frequency of walking also makes a big difference. Therefore, I take those glucosamine supplements three times a day, drink pomegranate juice daily and walk every day. No matter what. I’ve also taken up cycling. First on a stationary trainer in my garage until I was more confident (and the weather improved!), and now cycling the local lanes and canal tow paths. There are multiple benefits to this, of course. But primary amongst them is that, at least at this point, my knees are in good enough shape to allow me to take as many prayer walks as I desire. On another note, I have significant neck pain as a result of a disc problem. It interferes with my sleep, which make being alert and fresh for my morning time with God a challenge. I decided to attempt some action on this protracted problem. My wife suggested contacting a friend, Debbie Bishop, who is an expert personal trainer. She came over and designed a pilates-style strength-training plan which helps my entire body, but especially my knees and neck. After two sessions I was in less neck pain and sleeping better. Sleep is a key component in being prepared for a time of quiet in the morning. Of course, we cannot control everything to do with our sleep (I was woken this week by a dog barking at 4.41am), but what we can influence we surely should. A couple of thoughts about exercise. There are many theories about what is most helpful, and your doctor is probably your best source of advice here, but, the key is to find a mode of exercise which you find reasonably enjoyable, which you can maintain regularly and helps you to be ready for God in the mornings. 2. Nutrition  I don’t believe in diets - at least not diets in the sense of the multi-billion industry encouraging us to part with huge amounts of cash for dubious weight loss goals. However, it is clear that what we put into our bodies has an enormous impact on our well-being physically and, it seems to me, spiritually. In the last few years I’ve taken my nutritional more seriously. It all began with a trip to Ghana (which was a tremendously positive spiritual experience), and picking up a rather nasty stomach bug. Having lost a little over a stone I felt much better, and decided to maintain this new weight. Of course, being closer to my ideal weight also blessed my knees. Since then I’ve hovered around 13 stone (182 pounds for my American cousins, or, 82 Kilos) which is about right for me.  More recently I’ve taken to eating a more plant-based diet. By far the most significant issue is becoming self aware of what helps and what hinders. Let me give you an example.  I travel to the Thames Valley churches of Christ (http://www.tvcoc.org/) on Friday nights. By the time I get back it’s typically anywhere between 11 PM and 11:30 PM. Frequently, I’ve been leading worship or teaching, or in significant conversations and training opportunities. My mind is buzzing when I get home. As you can imagine it is a little difficult to switch off. What I did for quite some time was watch some television and drink a glass of red wine until I felt more ready to sleep. The upshot was rotten Saturday morning quiet times!  I was lethargic, and often had a headache.  Is watching television an evil thing? Is drinking a glass of red wine sinful? Of course not. But these “solutions” were hindering not helping. I have since developed a new strategy which involves drinking more non-caffeinated fluids on the way home as well as a healthy snack (often dates or a banana). When I get home I tidy away the equipment I have brought back from the meeting, tick off the completed items from my list for the day, and write down the priorities for Saturday. Then I listen to a podcast which has nothing to do with church stuff. It's usually a Goon show from the 1950s which I know almost word for word by heart. Occasionally I use an app called “Feeling Good” (https://www.nhs.uk/apps-library/feeling-good-positive-mindset/#) and a recording on that app called “Yes you can… Sleep soundly”. Listening to the Goons or the app I drift off to sleep earlier than I otherwise would do, and wake up more refreshed than in the past. None of this guarantees a good quiet time on Saturday!  But I do know I’m in a better place with a better chance to enjoy that time of quiet with God. A few caveats.  First of all, I understand that some of us may not be in a position to exercise in the traditional sense. It doesn’t mean, that if you are confined to your bed with illness that you cannot have a good time of quiet with God. God is able to help us to triumph through all circumstances. I’m only talking about what is within our control. It’s also not the case that I’m suggesting a particular exercise regime or set of nutritional choices as being more godly than another. This is much more about being conscious of the choices we're making and aware of whether they are helping or hindering our relationship with God. Do you agree with me that the way we treat our bodies has a significant impact on our relationship with God? In what way do you feel your choices in these areas are having an impact on your times of quiet with God?  Do you have any tips you could share that might help us develop better thinking and decisions regarding exercise and nutrition? Great Escape Radio Episode #73: Are You Growing or Decaying? “You need to do something every day to tell your body it’s springtime.” ― Chris Crowley To learn more about Breakfast Stock Club, go to: www.greatescapepublishing.com/breakfaststock. Great Escape Radio host, Jody Maberry talks with Bonnie Caton, Breakfast Stock Club Creator, about the importance of staying active. Bonnie shares her thoughts… “Lately I’ve been thinking about this a lot and I’ve realized that getting involved in travel writing and travel photography gets me off the couch and out of the house. It sends me on adventures and I end up having a much more interesting life in general.” In Chris Crowley’s book, Younger Next Year he states that 70% of aging is a choice. As humans, we exist in basically two states, we’re either growing or decaying. Bonnie explains… “As a holdover from the past when people endured times of famine, our bodies have a built-in decay mechanism that kicks in when we’re not moving.” Jody can relate – he moved from a job as a park ranger to an indoor job in an office without windows. He felt the decay. But he’s combating that with a concerted effort to keep moving. In fact, he’s closing in on 500 days in a row with 10,000 steps or more. Travel writing and photography gives you a reason to get off the couch, get moving and get out of the house. It also keeps you curious—almost in a state of child-like wonder. And that helps keep you young. Listen in for Bonnie’s tips on breaking out of the decay stage and staying active even when you’re not off on a grand adventure. To hear more from Bonnie, you’ll want to check out the Breakfast Stock Club here: www.greatescapepublishing.com/breakfaststock. In episode 34, Chris Crowley, author of the Younger Next Year books, talks about how exercise and a healthy lifestyle can turn back the clock … and he's living proof! Chris has been very influential to me over the last decade. He is the New York Times best-selling co– author, with Henry S. Lodge M.D., of Younger Next Year – A guide to Living like 50 until you're 80 and beyond. This book has been instrumental to me for establishing my adaptive fitness training business. It is my bible and number one source for motivating my boomer and beyond clients to establish an active and healthy lifestyle. I love his no BS, non-negotiable approach to the exercise required to truly turn back your biological clock. Chris has also authored Younger Next Year for Women, Thinner Next Year, The Younger Next Year Journal and a soon to be released book on Fitness. Beside an author of books and his Younger Next Year blog, he is also an attorney, a keynote speaker and the host of total immersion retreats in Aspen, Colorado. Needless to say retirement is not in his lexicon. In the interview, Chris answers the following questions: Tell us a bit about who you are and what you do. Your book, Younger next year was very influential to me personally and it obviously is very biographical for you. Can you tell us the story of how you came to write that book? In your teachings you talk about the good life as being a 3 legged stool. What do you mean by that? It has now been 10 years since you wrote Younger next year and obviously you are your own testimonial for your teachings. How has adapting this lifestyle affected your own life up to now? A lot of us boomers find it difficult to adapt to a healthy lifestyle that we can stick with. What do you see as the biggest mistake that most baby boomers make when it comes to trying to establish a healthy lifestyle? In your book, you make references to Kedges. What are Kedges and why are they so important? You also started to host retreats in Aspen, Colorado. Can you tell us a bit about these total immersion and mini retreats? Do you have any parting advice that you'd like to share with your fellow boomers? Jim will talk about the amazing benefits of cardiovascular exercise and give you specific recommendations as to what you can do to resist the tide of bodily decline that is pulling on all of us baby boomers.  This podcast is inspired by the book, Younger Next Year, by Chris Crowley & Henry Lodge, M.D. It discusses how cardiovascular exercise can truly be the fountain of youth for you. The premise of the book is that our genes are still working on programs from back when our primitive forefathers were living on the Savannah's of Africa. Knowing this is the key to staying active and healthy into your 80's...and beyond! If I were you I'd listen up. This could be life-changing!
