This podcast is called the High Performance Human podcast for a reason. It gives me the opportunity to showcase individuals who excel in their chosen sport, but also in many other areas of their life, while still focussing on basics such as sleep and nutrition.   Next time you take a flight, think about what you would like to know about your pilot - skills at their job (obviously) but also that they prioritise health and fitness, turn up each day having slept well and eaten the right foods to help them concentrate throughout the full duration of your flight. Today's guest, Rick Peters, is an elite swimmer, airline pilot, and high performance human.   He was introduced to me by long time client Toby Baxendale when he and Rick met at the Barbados Open Water swim festival, last November. Rick finished 7th overall in the 5k swim (non wetsuit) in a very impressive time of 1hr 13 (an average pace of 1:28/100m), made even more impressive by the fact that Rick is 60 years old.   Rick still regularly captains long haul flights for Air Canada, and in today's conversation we talk about his daily fitness routine, his love for swimming, and how he stays so fit and healthy. Then we add in the complications of air travel, the impact of time zone changes, and some of the strategies Rick uses to mitigate these. Needless to say, I would be very confident to have Rick Peters as the Captain on my next flight! Some other topics we discuss include: Earthing - to help the body rebalance after crossing time zones Drinking hydrogen water to limit the impact of flying at altitude Finding time to workout when travelling The microbiome and how keeping your gut healthy has a major impact on brain health, sleep and general fitness   Rick doesn't use social media but if you have any questions for him, I'm sure he wouldn't mind me forwarding them on. He did recommend some resources and books.   Books “YOUNGER NEXT YEAR” (Live strong, fit, sexy and smart – until you're 80 and beyond) by Chris Crowley & Henry Lodge. The Psychology of Winning” (Ten qualities of a total winner) by Dr. Denis Waitley.   Video Light as Medicine by Dr. Roger Seheult MD of MedCram who gives a very detailed description of how mitochondria produce ATP and what infrared light can do to optimize your health and immunity.   Research Papers on Gut MicroBiome How gut bacteria balance enhanced exercise performance “Associations between gut microbiota and sleep: a two-sample, bidirectional Mendelian randomization Study”, by J. Wu et al “Gut microbiome diversity is associated with sleep physiology in humans”, by R. In this episode of The Optimistic American, Paul Johnson sits down with Dr. Emily Bashah to discuss trauma and the effects it can have on a person's life. They cover the different stages of trauma, ways psychologists treat it, and effective practices you can use to work on trauma yourself. Emily starts the conversation by defining trauma from a clinical perspective. Paul and Emily agree that you cannot treat PTSD if the person is still in a traumatic environment. Emily describes the physical changes in a person's brain after experiencing a traumatic event. According to Paul, no two traumas are the same - never compare a person's trauma to someone else's. Trauma often comes down to its impact on the individual. Paul explains that it's possible for people to hang on to their trauma, especially if it's meshed into their identity. Paul and Emily talk about the effects of failure on a person's self-worth. According to Emily, a person's brain that was rewired by trauma can be rewired again through healing and therapeutic experiences. Paul goes through the three basic elements of motivation: You have to challenge yourself. You need someone who will encourage you. You must see growth and be able to measure it. According to Emily, not all trauma is bad or needs to be fixed - you can lead a happy and fulfilling life without needing therapy. Paul shares ways to help someone who grew up in a traumatic environment. Talking to people about their trauma starts with trust, and you cannot build trust without giving people the truth. Paul and Emily go through the seven ideals of healing trauma. Emily describes the power of changing your story in trauma healing - you are the story you tell yourself. You are either a victim or a victor of life. Paul and Emily share their opposing thoughts on trauma and discuss whether forgiveness is the correct response to trauma.     Mentioned in This Episode: optamerican.com Addictive Ideologies: Finding Meaning and Agency When Politics Fail You by Dr Emily Bashah and Hon Paul Johnson Younger Next Year: Live Strong, Fit, Sexy, and Smart―Until You're 80 and Beyond by Chris Crowley et al

Christina Miller, MD, FACEP, is double board-certified in emergency and integrative medicine. After spending ten years in the emergency department and serving as president of Colorado ACEP (American College of Emergency Physicians), she radically changed her practice to health promotion, due to her own health concerns and being overwhelmed by the amount of chronic disease and illness seen in the ED. She studied nutritional science and plant-based nutrition, completed a fellowship in integrative medicine, and now focuses exclusively on nutrition and lifestyle changes to get to the root cause of disease and illness, while promoting wellness and longevity in each individual. Instead of treating emergencies in the ED, she is now helping to prevent and reverse chronic illnesses and empower people to live with vitality. She enjoys teaching plant-based, nutrient-dense cooking classes to both groups and individuals, and helped establish a free clinic outside of Aspen, Colorado for the underserved. She lectures locally, has spoken around the country with Younger Next Year best-selling author Chris Crowley, as well as in corporate wellness programs promoting good nutrition and healthy lifestyle. She has contributed significantly to the nutrition chapter for the American College of Emergency Physicians (ACEP) handbook and wrote wellness-promoting tips for the emergency physician. She is founder of Eat and Live Healthfully website and blog and served as the medical director of Aspen Valley Hospital creating their Integrative Medicine program. She was also selected to be a member of the Pitkin County Board of Health, where she helped with policy and public health concerns. In 2019, she moved to New Hampshire, worked at an integrative clinic in Vermont seeing patients, teaching classes, giving lectures, and reaching out to the local community. She is now proud to be part of the start-up company, Plantbasedtelehealth.com, offering plant-based telemedicine services to patients across the country, reaching people who otherwise wouldn't have access. Her goal is to continue to share the information and the resources necessary to help empower people to take back their health, prevent and even reverse chronic illness, and create long-lasting true health and vitality. One of her favorite mantras is, “Together we are healthier”. On a personal note, I also have my own story, as I was diagnosed with lupus in 2009,. I had initially presented with joint pains, which rapidly progressed to heart, lung, blood vessel, and kidney involvement. I was on 6 medications, including high dose prednisone and immunosuppressants, and chemo drugs. I had to quit my job in the ER at this time, because I was so immunocompromised. It was a very depressing and dark time in my life, and I was scared for my health. This is when I googled diet for lupus patients, and learned about plant-based whole food diets. I transitioned immediately after learning about it, but my healing was still a long course. I was not one of those people who went plant-based and all of my medical problems went away. I tweaked the diet quite a bit to a full autoimmune healing diet, developed a comprehensive mind-body program to calm my nervous system and stress hormones, improved my sleep, and made other lifestyle adjustments. I also had to eliminate toxins completely and overhaul many aspects of my life. It's been quite a journey, and I live a very different, much more awake, aware, and present life, for which I'm ultimately grateful. This is what I am so passionate, about and what I work so hard to share with my patients. I am very grateful for you inviting me to come speak with you and share the importance of diet, lifestyle, community, and maintaining hope as people heal from chronic illness, as well as about our new telemedicine practice at plantbasedtelehealth.com, where we get the opportunity to reach patients all over the country. www.eatandlivehealthfully.com

Let’s Get Physical: Maintaining Your Strength and Mobility

Retirement Answer Man

Play Episode Listen Later Feb 10, 2021 40:09

To rock retirement, you have to have the right tools, and the most important tool you have is your body. To keep up your strength and mobility your body needs to be fine-tuned. On this episode of Retirement Answer Man, we continue discussing your physical health. You’ll learn what you can do to maintain your strength and mobility so that you can rock retirement.  What is mobility? Mobility means having healthy muscles, bones, and joints so that you can freely move about. In retirement, it is important to have the mobility to do all the typical things you have to do and also so you can enjoy your favorite hobbies. Staying healthy and fit isn’t the same now as it was in your 20s. Back then you exercised to keep up your good looks, but now, exercise is critical to maintaining mobility so that you can rock retirement and do all of the things you want to do. Health and fitness can be your job in retirement Many people struggle without the routine of work to keep their life in balance in retirement. In the book, Younger Next Year, the author, Chris Crowley, makes the argument that you should make health and fitness your job in retirement.  This is an interesting idea that I want you to consider since exercise can provide you with not only structure but goals and rewards as well. When you devote time to your health you can see measurable results. Added to that, exercise can provide you with a social outlet and an ability to connect and work with other people. It can even draw you closer to your partner as you both work to attain your goals.  This important job can become the center of your life now that you won’t have the busyness of work life. It may even help give you a new identity to help you transition from your work-related identity. What do you think about making health and fitness the center of your life in retirement? How to build a body to support you to do all the things you want to do You may have heard that you can lose up to 50% of your muscle mass by the time you are 50. However, the aged muscle can be repaired if you are willing to work to maintain it. It is important to build a plan with your doctor and you may want to include a personal trainer and nutritionist to help you build that plan.  You’ll also want to work on increasing your flexibility. Your muscles get shorter as you get older causing your flexibility to decline. This can reduce your range of motion and lead to back pain, joint issues, and bad balance. Listen in to hear what apps you can use to help you maintain your exercise plan in retirement.  Be sure to check out this week’s 6-Shot Saturday email newsletter! Make sure that you are signed up for 6-Shot Saturday this week. Not only can you complete our annual listener survey, but we’ll have a link to a study guide for you to follow while you read the book, Younger Next Year. This study guide will give you a good idea of the kind of work we do in the Rock Retirement Club. OUTLINE OF THIS EPISODE OF THE RETIREMENT ANSWER MAN WHAT DOES THAT MEAN? [1:30] What is mobility? Chris Crowley, 86 year old Author of Younger Next Year: Live Strong, Fit, and Sexy - Until You're 80 and Beyond has sold over 2 million copies and been translated into 23 languages. This book was his first about what you can do to help you age better and enjoy aging more. Chris also recommends his book Younger Next Year The Exercise Program and Fit Forever videos. The newest edition of the YNY book has new material about keeping mentally active as well. Chris quoted his co-author, Henry Lodge as saying "how long you live is 80% genetics and how well you live is 20% genetics."Chris and I met at a bicycle camp in Connecticut 15 years ago just after his book was first published. Now he has released a new edition with new material about mental aging and staving off Alzheimer's disease. [03:26] Derek and Patrick waste no time getting caught up and getting the skinny on what Derek does. A self-titled “Apartment Schlep.” The best ideas for growing his business have come from his clients. With that comes relationship building through asking questions, listening, and understanding. “Seek first to understand, then be understood.” [08:22] Living into the illusion that multi-family residential real estate is a legacy for your children. It's apparent through experience and client interviews that the intergenerational transfer of wealth needs to be considered far earlier that one may think. Look out for more from their forthcoming book! [10:43] Derek illustrates the importance of liquidity and clear advance directives in the realm of large scale real estate holdings or development. [13:07] Derek walks through a scenario of how the first generation of a multi-family residential real estate family can set up future generations to succeed. Involving family early sets the tone for clarity in decision making and intergenerational wealth. First generation and the second or third may have vastly different viewpoints. [16:30] Derek shares more about the types of deals he's doing, what his specific goal is when he starts each day, and offers his perspective on showing up amidst the ups and downs of brokering deals. Humility and stoicism are beneficial characteristics. [20:01] Research is at the heart of Derek's business and in the last decade or so feasibility studies for new apartment construction is where his team has been hanging out. Derek outlines the five questions that get answered within these studies and the value they bring directly to developers. With the advent of a possible slow down, Derek also touches on the risk mitigation they work on for their clients. [26:08] Patrick and Derek talk about the viability of commercial and retail spaces within the reality of a new global outlook. With the mountain of uncertainty that exists and a lack of strong leadership, nobody really knows how it will play out. [28:34] Let's get down to brass tacks. Derek reveals the best places to invest. You might be surprised! [36:27] Derek and Patrick take a side road to acknowledge women in business, and the hard road it can be at times. Derek feels an underutilized resource is stay at home Moms, many of whom can bring great skills and enrichment to the business table, and simply need some flexibility. [40:15] Derek's outlook of our economic world through his apartment sector lens is informed by his keen observations. Emotions, low interest rates (that must remain low) along with resident, investor and developer demand is thriving. A virtual training platform in all real estate sectors is proving to be highly effective and impactful from both Patrick & Derek's perspectives. [46:55] Patrick offers his view on why the multi-family sector is appearing to be both recession and virus-proof. [48:58] Guidance from a veteran: start thinking in detail about how your company can fit into the current economy and the talent you need to ace it. We all want to age gracefully, but the truth is that aging isn't always glamorous. Women going through menopause deal with a lot of difficulties because aside from the emotional turmoil, there are also physical pains and dysfunctions like having osteoporosis. Women over the age of 50 are the ones most likely to develop this disease, but the good news is there's something we can do about it.  In this week's podcast episode, I talk with Sarah Purcell, a former investment banker turned Pilates and Yoga teacher. When Sarah was diagnosed with osteoporosis, she searched for ways to heal and found that movement and weight-bearing activity were the keys to fighting this disease.  During our conversation we discussed what osteoporosis is, the role of good nutrition for better health, how Sarah reversed her osteoporosis to osteopenia, the difference between osteoporosis and osteopenia, managing niggling aches and pains, and she also shows us a few exercises that we can do.  If you want to grow healthier and stronger as you age this episode is extremely helpful. Tune in to this podcast today!  What's Discussed in This Episode: How Sarah was diagnosed with osteoporosis [3:16] What is osteoporosis [4:57] The importance of good nutrition [5:11] Controversy of where to get the bone building elements [6:24] Wolff's Law [8:39] Menopause and osteoporosis [9:37] Sarah's solution to her osteoporosis problem [13:08] Bone density vs. bone quality [14:02] How osteopenia is different from osteoporosis [15:28] The first step to moving more - walking [16:43] Taking ownership of your health [21:53] The LIFTMOR protocol [23:06] Bone building exercise - deadlifts [24:02] Pathologic fractures with women who have osteoporosis [26:00] How to manage niggling aches and pains [26:57] Owning your ranges of motion [27:51] Breathing and alignment [28:33] Kyphosis, rhomboid push ups  [29:21] Type of movement for those with a rounded spine [30:39] The need to "make friends" with your body [33:51] Viewing exercise as our "job" [37:12] Sarah explains how she's helping women overwhelmed by weightlifting [38:10]  Further discussion on managing niggling aches and pains [42:57] The importance of having a community to get support [48:45] Other exercises to do [49:32] About the Guest:  Sarah Purcell is a long-time Pilates and Yoga teacher. She is certified to teach the Restore Your Core method that has helped her resolve the little aches and pains of peri-menopause and has created the Bone Boot Camp for Osteoporosis which promotes bone growth. Through weight-bearing activity, she successfully reversed her osteoporosis diagnosis into osteopenia.  She enjoys working one-on-one with clients to assess and tailor a program for them whether it's in-person in Florida, or online via Zoom.  Sarah's goal is to spread the word that aging does not have to mean core and pelvic floor dysfunction and aches and pains that keep coming back. In this episode of Veggie Doctor Radio, I talk with Dr. Chris about lifestyle telemedicine and how it might be able to help so many. If you are wishing you could get a consult from an intelligent and well-trained plant-based physician to help you prevent or potentially reverse disease, your opportunity has arrived!   About featured guest: Christina Miller, MD, FACEP, is double board-certified in emergency and integrative medicine. She is now proud to be part of the start-up company, Plantbasedtelehealth.com, offering plant-based telemedicine services to patients across the country, reaching people who otherwise wouldn’t have access. Her goal is to continue to share the information and the resources necessary to help empower people to take back their health, prevent and even reverse chronic illness, and create long-lasting true health and vitality. One of her favorite mantras is, “Together we are healthier”.     Dr. CHRIS MILLER https://plantbasedtelehealth.com   Disclaimer: The information on this blog, website and podcast is for informational purposes only. In Episode 22 of the Intelligent Equity Podcast, host Ryan Kiefer talks with Chris Crowley of Comey & Shepherd Realtors. Chris shares his thoughts on what kinds of challenges and opportunities are out there for first-time buyers in 2020. You’ll also hear about how home affordability has actually improved because renting is currently more expensive than owning.   Episode Highlights:  Chris Crowley grew up helping his father who was a contractor. This gave him exposure to a behind-the-scenes view of renovating. He has been an active agent for 14 years with Comey and Shepherd. First-time homebuyers are up against a lot in the current market. It’s a very competitive market. First time buyers don't have time to think about it. You have to go into a home, look at it, and make your decision while you're there. Local starter homes start between 100-250k. What are the challenges or opportunities currently for move-up buyers? Most people in the mid-range level aren't in a position to buy without selling. Sellers take a risk when accepting an offer with contingencies. Typically winter is a slower time of year, but there are a ton of buyers out there right now. The traffic is up over 12% year over year in terms of buyers out looking at homes, particularly in the starter home market. What advice does Chris have for sellers who would like to wait for the spring market? Chris feels that the weather is a huge factor in when the spring market will take off. If the weather holds out how it is right now, the spring market is right around the corner. The spring market will be competitive and it is already gearing up. Buyers that are out looking at this time of year are typically serious. If you get a showing request this time of year, it's a serious buyer. Chris is hoping for a very successful, prosperous year for everybody. Home affordability has actually improved because rates are back near historic lows. If you own a starter home, you can get top dollar for that home right now and probably get a good deal on your move-up house. With rates being so low, rents are extremely high. It's a perfect time to buy. You're going to save money by owning vs. paying high-dollar rent. Your median rent takes up 28% of the median income in this country. Buying a home takes up 17%. 3 Key Points: The current market is extremely competitive for first-time homebuyers. There are a ton of buyers looking right now. The spring market will take off soon. Home affordability has improved with unexpectedly low interest rates. Resources Mentioned: Ryan Kiefer: LinkedIn, Facebook, Website Chris Crowley website, Facebook, LinkedIn

In the morning the user is provided rich analytics and “plain English” coaching ideas. Crowley likens his EverSleep device to having a thermometer. A thermometer offers one very vital measurement. EverSleep provides a bigger picture on sleep health, but like a thermometer, its designed and priced to be used multiple times at home to measure sleep and changes to sleep over time. Crowley discuses in this podcast how EverSleep fills a gap that allows a person to gain ready and immediate insight into sleep quality. EverSleep allows users to measure the impact of changes they may have made deliberately to improve sleep, or to try to figure out what may be causing a change in sleep patterns. The product looks at 20 different aspects of sleep to provide a personalized report, that includes ideas. In this podcast we learn that EverSleep is easy use, works with almost any mobile device, does not need licensing (no recurring firmware or use charges) and comes with a lifetime guarantee. Rear Admiral Kerry Metz (USN, Ret.) started his career as a Navy SEAL, and eventually served as the first commander of Special Operations Command North. In this discussion, Kerry talked about career success, career setbacks, and how “you can’t be a shiny penny without a few wire brushings!” Kerry shares his 5 H’s when it comes to leadership: honor, honesty, humility, humor, and happiness. He discusses the differences and similarities between the military, sports teams, business, and the shared commonality regarding leadership. Listen in to gain insights from a modern-day, intellectual warrior. Key Takeaways [3:01] Kerry progressed as a SEAL from the tactical area, through operational roles, and then to the strategic level as an admiral. The Special Forces, SEALs, and Rangers are tests for the human body and mind to do 10 times more than they think they can.  [5:48] A good team requires a common purpose or mission. Next, comes a shared experience or sacrifice. Everyone contributes to the best of their ability. These are the ingredients for a high-performing team. [7:33] Kerry talks about sacrifice in a startup. Employees sacrifice high salary for shares. Founders are often on the road more than most executives, for a later payoff. Sacrificing now gives you future options. [9:25] Kerry discusses how Naval officers achieve rank. Evaluations are not only for what they have done, but also their potential. Leadership is developing the leaders behind you. If something happens to you, the one behind you has to step up and take your place. [13:29] Kerry talks about his advancement. He was passed over for Lieutenant Commander once, but not the second time. When he was up for Commander, it also took two times. But he made One Star Admiral before his contemporaries. Kerry follows five ‘H’s: Honor, Honesty, Humility, Humor, and Happiness.  [21:13] Military groups fight in a mission to win or lose; sports teams play a game to win; but business can be a long slog. He cites Admiral Jim Stavridis, who said to be open, honest, and collegial, and Admiral Michael Mullen, who said to listen, learn, and lead. Leaders who apply these principles will lead well. [25:49] Competition among peers is healthy if it is balanced with cooperation. Leaders should lead people the way they need to be led. Some need a push, some need a pat on the back. Tell the contributors how they are doing, and what they need to do to be on the mark. [29:44] In 1989, Kerry tells a hard leadership lesson he learned as the Team Commander of SEAL Team One when they deployed to the Philippines.  [37:27] Put people in the right spot for them, nurture them, and empower them, and they will surpass your expectations and surprise you with their achievements.  [41:42] No one starts at the top. He would like to help others have a smoother ride, go further, and go faster. The world needs leaders to handle complexity.   LinkedIn: Kerry M. Logical Weight Loss Podcast
Are You Being Honest With Yourself?

Logical Weight Loss Podcast

Play Episode Listen Later Aug 20, 2017 40:58

I lost thirty pounds last year, and while it's taken me months to do this, I've now found 20 of those pounds and stuck them right on my belly. When I went over 215, I really scratched my head. I was still drinking lots of water, getting 7 hours of sleep most nights, and eating vegetables, chicken, etc (most of the time). You Don't Age Most of the Time - You Age a Little Every Day So I thought about my year when I lost weight, and I thought about the number of times I ate fast food. I would say less than once a month, and if I did skipped the fries and the coke and got a chicken sandwich with water. Now I probably get fast food twice a month, and it's the whole nine years. I've said it before when you do the wrong thing you are practicing at it. This practice started with getting an egg McMuffin with water. That lead to getting an Egg McMuffin with hash browns (and I'm not sure why as their hash browns are basically a deep-fried grease sponge). That lead to getting a coke with the meal. Each time, it was a baby step. When I first did this, it didn't affect my weight, but it nudged me in the wrong direction. Are You Lying to Yourself? I was still getting my 10,000 steps in, and sure that is exercise but I wasn't breaking a sweat. Decay or Grow Old I just listened to Younger Next Year: Live Strong, Fit, and Sexy—Until You're 80 and Beyond by Chris Crowley and Henry S Lodge. Chris is in his 70's and beings all sorts of real life examples, and Henry is the doctor who brings the science. They say your body is going to do one of two things on a daily basis. It's going to Decay, or it will receive information from the brain and body to grow new nerves, tissues, and rejuvenate the body. What makes it go into decay? Sitting on your butt. The only reason a man would sit on his butt thousands of years ago was if there was a ton of food, (or no food to hunt) and the idea was there was probably going into a famine. So you sit and you decay. If you had to go hunt, you got up and move around, your body actually uses up some of its resources and the brain triggers the body to grow new resources. So how do you trigger the body to think you're off to kill a saber tooth tiger? By exercising 6 days a week, and doing weight training three days a week. This will take approximately an hour a day. When I first heard this idea I was like, "Well that ain't going to happen." I truly do not like weight lifting. I've tried some things. I like the app " 7" which walks you through a seven-minute workout using just your body weight. I know I work during the day and do podcast consulting during the evening. That leaves early morning, or I could put me first, and schedule consulting around my schedule.   It's Time to be Selfish So many parents put their kids first and themselves last. You need to change your thinking on this. If you put yourself first by exercising, eating right, you are going to be around longer for your kids, so by putting yourself first, YOU ARE putting your kids first. Maling it In For me, I'm going to baby step this, and instead of starting off with six days of exercise (three of which contained weight lifting) I'm going to start with three days of exercising (more on that in a minute) and one day of strength training. I've actually put it on my calendar. The other thing that was different between me this year vs last year. Last year I would exercise (get 10,000 steps but part of those would be working up a sweat). This year I'm getting 10,000 steps in walking around the neighborhood. Now for some of you walking around the neighborhood would make you sweat. That's the point. I quit sweating. What is One Thing? Last week I talked about getting swept up by the tide and taken the wrong way. Don't get overwhelmed about how far off you are, instead think of one thing you can do to start swimming in the right direction. Garden of Life Chocolate Raw Fit Protein Powder - Review So I just completed my first order from Thrive Market. I purchased the Garden of Life Chocolate Raw Fit Protein Powder. Here are some of the details: High Protein for Weight Loss† (28g Complete Plant Protein) Organic Svetol® Green Coffee Bean Extract and Organic Ashwagandha Burns Fat, Satisfies Hunger and Helps to Fight Cravings† Less than 1 gram of Sugar Certified USDA Organic, Non-GMO Project Verified, Certified Vegan, NSF Certified Gluten Free, Informed Choice Certified (Trusted by Sport), Kosher Certified, Dairy Free, Soy Free Featuring Clean Organic Plant Protein from Organic Peas and Sprouted Organic Grains, Seeds and Legumes Boost energy and build lean muscle mass – Use pre- or post-workout Satisfy hunger, and stay full longer with Organic Whole Food Fiber Contains Svetol Green Coffee Bean Extract to burn fat naturally and maintain healthy blood sugar and Organic Ashwagandha to support cortisol levels and manage stress-related cravings It was $13 cheaper at Thrive Market. ($24 with my 25% discount, and free shipping instead of $38).  I think part of the problem with the word Chocolate is we are used to candy bars which have so much sugar so that when we get a healthier version of Chocolate that isn't as sweet, we kind of get a letdown. I did like more than other products Shakeology by Beachbody which is $5/serving. This clocked in around $2.50 per serving (where a Frappuccino clocks in around $2). So yes, Starbucks might be cheaper, but it has 58g (15 teaspoons) of sugar in it (and that's without the whipped cream). In general, I like that is definitely drinkable (but doesn't have me saying "YUM, GIVE ME ANOTHER) and it doesn't have any weird aftertaste and mix well so I wasn't drinking chalk. Get 25% off your first purchase + free shipping + free 30-day trial!" Keep in mind that our prices are already 25- 50% below retail because we cut out the middleman. And now they're offering an extra 25% off their first purchase! Go to thrivemarket.com/LWL Become a Logical Loser (PATRON) See www.logicallosers.com

In episode 34, Chris Crowley, author of the Younger Next Year books, talks about how exercise and a healthy lifestyle can turn back the clock … and he's living proof! Chris has been very influential to me over the last decade. He is the New York Times best-selling co– author, with Henry S. Lodge M.D., of Younger Next Year – A guide to Living like 50 until you're 80 and beyond. This book has been instrumental to me for establishing my adaptive fitness training business. It is my bible and number one source for motivating my boomer and beyond clients to establish an active and healthy lifestyle. I love his no BS, non-negotiable approach to the exercise required to truly turn back your biological clock. Chris has also authored Younger Next Year for Women, Thinner Next Year, The Younger Next Year Journal and a soon to be released book on Fitness. Beside an author of books and his Younger Next Year blog, he is also an attorney, a keynote speaker and the host of total immersion retreats in Aspen, Colorado. Needless to say retirement is not in his lexicon. In the interview, Chris answers the following questions: Tell us a bit about who you are and what you do. Your book, Younger next year was very influential to me personally and it obviously is very biographical for you. Can you tell us the story of how you came to write that book? In your teachings you talk about the good life as being a 3 legged stool. What do you mean by that? It has now been 10 years since you wrote Younger next year and obviously you are your own testimonial for your teachings. How has adapting this lifestyle affected your own life up to now? A lot of us boomers find it difficult to adapt to a healthy lifestyle that we can stick with. What do you see as the biggest mistake that most baby boomers make when it comes to trying to establish a healthy lifestyle? In your book, you make references to Kedges. What are Kedges and why are they so important? You also started to host retreats in Aspen, Colorado. Can you tell us a bit about these total immersion and mini retreats? Do you have any parting advice that you'd like to share with your fellow boomers?
