Writer Michael Brandt is no stranger to the big and small screen. Having written such thrilling films like 3:10 to Yuma, Wanted, 2 Fast 2 Furious and Catch That Kid, he is also the co-creator of NBC's Chicago Fire, Chicago Med, Chicago P.D. and Chicago Justice. His latest film, which he adapted from the book, "Arthur: The Dog Who Crossed the Jungle to Find a Home," is a story of friendship and survival. The film stars Mark Wahlberg and Simu Liu. Final Draft sat down with Brandt to find out how this story of an adventure racing athlete who goes on a 435-mile journey through the jungle with his newfound friend, Arthur the dog, came to life. “Producer, Tucker Tooley, said, 'Here's this book. ESPN has done the story on this guy, but I'm not sure it's for you,'" said Brandt. "Meaning he didn't think I'd be into it. He gave me the one-line, and I said that sounds amazing.” We sat down with Brandt to hear about this heart-warming true story and how he brought it to the big screen. Listen to hear the full interview.

This month, we're talking to two Latinx Chicago women fighting hard for progressive values in Springfield — and already seeing results from some groundbreaking legislation and widely earning the respect of their colleagues. State Reps. Delia Ramirez and Celina Villanueva have been showing up in a big way downstate, fighting for education equity, immigrant rights, voting access and empowering young people of color. Both women started off as organizers so we are putting them on stage together to learn from their experience and help us understand their work on a deeper level.--- OUR GUESTS ---DELIA RAMIERZ Delia Ramirez is an accomplished social service director, community leader, and coalition builder who has dedicated much of her life and career to the Humboldt Park and Logan Square communities. On March 2018, as a first-time candidate, Delia was elected the Democratic nominee of Illinois' 4th house district and is the first Guatemalan American in the state legislature. A daughter of Guatemalan immigrants, Delia resides on the same block where she grew up. As a graduate of Sabin Magnet Elementary school in the eastern part of the 4th district and Northeastern University, Delia recognizes the importance of public education and is committed to fighting for high quality, equitable education for all our children. In 2004, at only 21 years old, Delia became the Executive Director of Humboldt Park Social Services, now the Center for Changing Lives. During Delia's tenure, the agency served more than 4,500 households and quadrupled the budget expanding its supportive services to become a city-wide organization nationally recognized for its innovative work on housing and financial stability programs. Delia has served as the Board president of Logan Square Neighborhood Association, District Advisory Chair of the 14th District Police Department, Co-founder of the Chicago Justice for our Neighbors Free Immigration Clinic, and currently serves as the President of LUCHA, a community development and affordable housing organization in the district. Delia has been a leader in neighborhood and city-wide coalitions for balanced neighborhood development, an elected school board, the Fight for 15, and Automatic Voter Registration. Her work has been recognized through several awards including the 2007 Community Renewal Society 35 under 35 leadership award, The National Hispanic Plan's 2011 Leader for Change Award, an Emerging Fellow of The Chicago Community Trust in 2013, and La Raza's Community Leader award in 2013. Up until December 2017, Delia served as Deputy Director of the Community Renewal Society, Chicago's oldest faith-based social justice organization, where she oversaw the development, organizing and policy units. Under her leadership, CRS helped pass several bills that remove barriers to employment for people with records. Additionally, she led a process that culminated in a three-year strategic plan for the Chicago area faith-based organization. In her first year as a state legislator she passed seven pieces of legislation ranging from expansion of homeless prevention to legislation reforming the department of children and family services and removing barriers to licensing for immigrant communities. As a leader in the progressive caucus in the House of Representatives, she is leading the housing taskforce looking at comprehensive state policy to housing stability. Delia has demonstrated throughout her life both personally and professionally, the ability to build relationships across broad demographics and unite diverse stakeholders for a common good. She is a proven leader with deep roots in her community. CELINA VILLANUEVABorn in Chicago and raised in Little Village, Celina Villanueva is currently the State Representative of the 21st district. Philip Winchester reprises his role as Peter Stone on Wolf Films/Universal Television's “Law & Order: Special Victims Unit,” now in its 19th season. Winchester originated the role on the 2017 NBC drama “Chicago Justice.” Growing up in Montana with an American father and British mother, Winchester has a place in his heart for both sides of the Atlantic. Originally, they left open the possibility of more episodes being developed but now it’s finalized: Season 7 will have seven episodes, Season 8 will have only 6. TJ Miller won’t return to "Silicon Valley" for Season 5 which is a damn shame HBO and Jon Stewart have scrapped their planned short-form animated news project which was originally set to premiere during the 2016 election. Saying in a joint statement, "We all thought the project had great potential but there were technical issues in terms of production and distribution that proved too difficult given the quick turnaround and topical nature of the material. We’re excited to report that we have some future projects together which you will be hearing about in the near future.” Oliver Stone is partnering with Weinstein TV to direct the entire first season of “Guantanamo” -- a that’ll focus specifically on the detainees held in one of the world's most controversial prisons, and those who defend and condemn them. When one extraordinarily average man (Rodriguez) dares to question the situation, he becomes an instant target.” Netflix has canceled "The Get Down" after one season The third and final season of Netflix’s "Bloodline" premieres this Friday. Originally, it was to be a five or six season series, but because of Florida’s decision to cut tax incentives for film and TV productions, things became way too expensive to shoot. Instead, the third and final season -- cut down from 13 episodes to 10 -- will premiere May 26 to Netflix. History Channel has ordered a new UFO-themed series from Robert Zemeckis titled, "Blue Book." The story follows a college professor recruited by the Air Force to research paranormal files from the 1950s and '60s, each episode drawing inspiration from actual files for a blend of UFO theories with authentic historical information. Disney has renewed "Andi Mack" for a second season The "Black-ish" spinoff has an official new home - Freeform and an official new name: "College-ish" Lifetime is moving forward with its Robert Durst movie, titled “The Lost Wife of Robert Durst.” David Gillies, vampy star of CW’s “The Originals” will play Durst and Katharine McPhee will play Durst’s first wife Kathie, who mysteriously vanished in 1982.
