Show Notes As the month of October draws to a close, so must Dan and Kris dive into this month's 10 20 30 40 with enthusiastic aplomb. Each month, they look back at notable game releases from 10, 20, 30, and 40 years ago, and while there were some nasty technical difficulties preventing them from efficiently dong to (Thanks to Metacritic changing the way their site works), they still managed to pull it off! This time around, the 10 and 30 were fairly mundane, but the 20 and 40 were quite stellar with some fantastic Atari 2600 arcade port like Dig Dug and Joust, and the PS2/Xbox/GameCube generation seeing some killer classics like Jak II, Viewtiful Joe, and Crimson Skies. At the top of the show, Kris tells the story of how he went to New York city to see The State live on stage, and how a stranger with a jump drive made his day. Dan didn't do much gaming thanks to a visit from his in-laws, but did get to catch up on some fantastic TV, and finally get some time in with Star Wars: Jedi Survivor. But the big story was the release of Super Mario Bros. Wonder. Kris spent some time with the game and it's every bit as magical as he thought it would be. Is it the best Mario game since the Super NES? Only time will tell. enjoy! We play a lot of games, and watch a lot of media. And sometimes, we wonder why a particular franchise that seems ripe for a game has NOTHING. And of course, there are the perfectly good games that have fallen into obscurity and could use a reboot. So let's talk about some of them- from Crimson Skies and AT-43 to Pokémon and Stargate, Grand Theft Auto and Dinotopia.

This week Trees makes the most of the weekend while Fred...doesn't. After a brief discussion on Gamescom announcements things quickly move to the games they've played. Trees has his staples: Car Mechanic Simulator, Maneater, and AC Valhalla. He also got to experience the 4K upres version of Crimson Skies, gave an indie title Islanders shot, and wrapped up with Slime Rancher (Plortable Edition). Fred tries to figure out why he struggles with the PS2 era in particular after reflecting on his recent MGS2 playthrough. Then it's all new stuff with 12 Minutes, Psychonauts 2, and Demons Souls (PS5).

In 2016, we interviewed Kelan Gerrity from ‘Sera Blue’, a new age publishing company based in Johannesburg, South Africa. Kelan, a writer herself, offered a very interesting promotion - if you purchased a copy of her book, ‘Crimson Skies’, you could submit a story idea that ‘Sera Blue’ would edit and publish for free. After a long and challenging process, due to the quality of the entries, Sera Blue declared a winner - Joburg based writer Jason Hes, for his horror novel submission, ‘Our Immaculate’.We recently sat down with both Jason and Kelan to discuss Jason's path to geekdom, the competition process overall, and how Jason came upon the ideas that formed the basis of his horror story.
This week Joe decides to tackle Crimson Skies on the Xbox because he saw Musty playing it, even though Bill told him to try it years ago. We have a massive argument over Star Trek : Discovery and shows in general. Bill reads some listeners comments and Joe debunks them. Joe tries to teach Bill some math and Bill tells Joe how he pictures what his life is like. By listener request, this week we take on the neo-pulp serial/cg proof of concept picture Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow! Is this a backdoor Crimson Skies movie? What does this movie have in common with Nancy comic strips in terms of using archetypal symbols to communicate? Why is Jude Law so immaculately, tortuously handsome? If Hollywood accepts cool pitches like this on their face, will we be able to get a producer on our new Sky-Captain-Inspired blaxploitation flick 'Grainy and Brown"? All this, and some crash-course knowledge bombs about Ancient Hebrew and plate tectonics! Watch how fast this goes off the rails as we get deeply distracted talking about Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow!
