These influencers make careers out of convincing you to give yours up.It seems pretty obvious that it's supposed to benefit men but in reality it benefits nobody - people that don't fall sharply into a gender binary suffer, women suffer, and unfortunately even men suffer under this system. The whole thing contradicts itself. It's snake oil. Toxic fumes to huff so you're too high to notice them abusing your free labor and support. Pretends to be empowering, when it's the opposite. Pretends to make you more secure, when it's the opposite. Pretends to be aesthetic and peaceful, when it's the opposite. These influencers make careers out of convincing you to quit yours. It's a grift. Don't fall for it. Glamorizing hard work without acknowledging the true difficulty and depths of demands of it is DANGEROUS. For some time now, there's been a growing trend on TikTok and Instagram of young women sharing about their daily lives as “trad wives.” “Traditional wives” forego the workplace, extol the virtues of homemaking, and often talk about the ways they “submit” to their husbands. So why do these women say they've chosen a life at home? How does their messaging cross into religion and politics? And is this “movement” a reaction to the burdens on modern women, or a threat to feminism's progress? We revisit a conversation with journalist Sophie Elmhirst from last April, who wrote a piece in the New Yorker called “The Rise and Fall of the Trad Wife”.

There is a trend on TikTok glorifying the idea of being a mob wife. These videos depict women as being incredibly fashionable and glamorous, but also as passive onlookers who are not affected by the serious issues of violence and illegal wealth associated with organized crime. If you haven't seen the interview with Johnathan Owens, you are in luck! I watched it so you don't have to and you already know I have thoughts. He said a few things about his experience of meeting Simone Biles that rubbed people he wrong way. Let's get into it. Another day, another word vomit of a podcast. Come join me in navigating sin in the world, finding your way, and open conversation in what life has been like in my crazy brain this summer. Warning: it's a lot.
It happens each time we turn on the tv, or scroll on our favorite social media app, and even when we visit with good friends. As human beings, we are all driven to try to gain an accurate self-assessment of who we are. If we're not careful, this passive watching (and sometimes judging) of others can subconsciously begin to make us feel like what we have isn't enough. Who we are and what we have achieved isn't enough. Or on the flip side of this, we may begin to feel a sense of superiority over others. Whether our self-esteem is inflated or deflated, nothing good comes out of comparison. Our joy, happiness, and contentment suffer. Our empathy for and connection to others suffer. In this episode, we talk about Social Comparison Theory (Festinger, 1954) and how we can fall into the trap of valuing our own personal and social worth by assessing how we compare to others. Whether it is an upward or downward comparison, if we allow comparison of others to dictate how we view our own lives it can steal our joy. Comparison is a Kryptonite that often makes us want more while we simultaneously see ourselves as less. Tune in to this episode to learn more about how to ditch comparison and stop allowing it to steal our joy. “A flower does not think of competing with the flower next to it. I don't know how it happened, but somehow $10k months became the gold standard in online businesses and is basically everyone's goal when they started their business. But why? Why girl? Why are you limiting yourself like that?! I can tell you right now that six figure months (not five) are my norm now - and that's cash, too. It took a lot for me to shift perspective away from glamorizing those $10k months and starting to dream bigger (and then earn bigger too!) and in this episode I want you to really start thinking about if $10k months is what you really want or if you are just keeping yourself small. In this episode, I'm chatting about: What really happened to me when I was making $10k months How I stopped putting that glass ceiling over me Why you might be devaluing yourself and doing your clients a disservice Episode Breakdown [01:46] Why put a glass ceiling over your head? In today's episode we're having a good girl chat the glamorization of entrepreneurship; building generational wealth through real estate and more with multi six figure owner: Ashleigh Bolar. There is real value in ability to be vulnerable and transparent about struggles, successes and practical logistics of building a business which led to the success of entrepreneurship! Today you can find a lot of people sugar-coating the process with your flashy cars and all that other things that really has nothing to do with running a business. Highlights of this episode: 1. What do you think is the Unsexy Side of Entrepreneurship? 2. How can we make entrepreneurship more realistic and accessible. 3. While I've contributed my fair share of "entrepreneurship p0rn" to the internet over the years, I think it's time we collectively acknowledge how much we have come to glamorize entrepreneurship and what some of the consequences are. Here's my take on what has contributed to this trend, its potential downsides, and why we need to talk about it.
With social media often dictating culture—from skin and body positivity movements to normalizing formerly stigmatized mental health conditions—is the proliferation of popular meme accounts glorifying anxiety, depression and the “sad girl” persona? Is social media rightly celebrating mental health, or unnecessarily causing more of it? Because compared to behind the scenes, you're kind of like okay? This doesn't add up?” Glamorizing engagement, marriage & babies The girls talk about the glamorization of marriage in our society, and the effect this has on women in particular. Why is there so much pressure to get married? “I also know it is a really uncomfortable place in your mid to late 30s, and you want a family” Unsettled Hotline The girls introduce their new venture - The Unsettled Hotline! This is a platform for people in unsettling situations to open up and discuss with someone who will listen. It will also be a place to chat with Ashley about wedding plans. Hello Runners, How are you? We are now in December, the final stretch of 2021, and smack dab in the heart of the holiday season. And this is the time of the year where we may eat a little more than usual. So running is more important to burn those calories. Right? Since it is December, there's probably some Jingle Bell run close to you. Sign up for one to keep a goalStaying motivated this time of the year can be rough with the shorter days and possible winter weather where you live. Here in Denver, we've not had our first snow of the season. The temperatures have been warm, with lots of sun, and no snow. Hawaii is getting snow! Not in Denver. I'm not complaining. I like running in the cooler temps but am not a fan of snow. Please keep it in the mountains! I feature three stories that I know you will enjoy in this episode. First is an article about the high expectations of athletes to perform at the expense of their health. This episode was inspired by a quote by another podcaster Katy Leeson, and it reads, “We need to stop glamorizing over-working. Please. The absence of sleep, good diet, exercise, relaxation, and time with friends and family isn't something to be applauded. Too many people wear their burnouts as a badge of honour. And it needs to change.” Well we got fired up, inspired, and we had to dive in! Get ready for some unconventional, possibly cancellable ideas :)! Why does hard work trigger some people? And yet when we don't share about our hard work people think we're slacking? And what is hard work really? Plus what is the actual measurement of hard work? Oh and how do sins play into it? Hola gente hermosa! For this week's episode we discuss the tik Tok trend/culture of being a toxico or toxica. We feel that in the Latinx community being toxic is sometimes glamorized, which makes future generations feel like it is okay to be in a "unhealthy" relationship. Stop the BS and actually fix the issue in the relationship please!Do you have a toxico/toxica experience?! Send us a DM, we would love to hear.
Our extreme work culture - the culture of overwork - and the glorification of overwork is problematic. We all pay a price for overwork including stress and burnout which threaten our health and emotional well-being, And additional home responsibilities and societal expectations put women at a distinct disadvantage in extreme work models, not because women shirk the pressure or responsibility of extreme work, but because of the many social, cultural reasons that women are unlikely to be able to match the hours logged by their male colleagues. This episode addresses the extreme work model, presenteeism, and a 24/7 work culture where high intensity and constant deadlines are the norm, everything is an emergency, and every problem is critical. A culture of constant accessibility and availability has become the productivity standard. But is it necessary? We need to rethink outdated and unnecessary attributes of the ideal worker as one willing to prioritize their job above all. The absence of sleep, good diet, exercise, relaxation, time with family and friends - time to just BE - is not something to be applauded. To many people were burnout as a badge of honor, and it needs to change. If you want to stop glamorizing the grind, this is the episode for you!

Welcome to the Sober is Dope podcast with your host, POP Buchanan. We are excited to bring you our Winter edition of, “A Walk in the Park” with POP Buchanan. This episode is intended to motivate our audience on the importance of getting back on the wagon immediately after a relapse. This is a reminder that we don’t have to accept old programming on hitting rock bottom and rockbottom being the prerequisite to healing. This episode is to encourage anyone in active addiction or in a current relapse to get back into treatment sooner than later. We dedicate this episode to our anonymous friend that recently relapsed after 20 years. Below are facts about relapse and the stages of relapse. Good luck. The Stages of Relapse Relapse is a process, it's not an event. In order to understand relapse prevention you have to understand the stages of relapse. Relapse starts weeks or even months before the event of physical relapse. In this page you will learn how to use specific relapse prevention techniques for each stage of relapse. There are three stages of relapse. • Emotional relapse • Mental relapse • Physical relapse Emotional Relapse In emotional relapse, you're not thinking about using. But your emotions and behaviors are setting you up for a possible relapse in the future. The signs of emotional relapse are: Restless, Irritable and Discontent • Anxiety • Intolerance • Anger • Defensiveness • Mood swings • Isolation • Not asking for help • Not going to meetings • Poor eating habits • Poor sleep habits The signs of emotional relapse are also the symptoms of post-acute withdrawal. If you understand post-acute withdrawal it's easier to avoid relapse, because the early stage of relapse is easiest to pull back from. In the later stages the pull of relapse gets stronger and the sequence of events moves faster. Relapse prevention at this stage means recognizing that you're in emotional relapse and changing your behavior. Recognize that you're isolating and remind yourself to ask for help. Recognize that you're anxious and practice relaxation techniques. Recognize that your sleep and eating habits are slipping and practice self-care. If you don't change your behavior at this stage and you live too long in the stage of emotional relapse you'll become exhausted, and when you're exhausted you will want to escape, which will move you into mental relapse. Practice self-care. The most important thing you can do to prevent relapse at this stage is take better care of yourself. Think about why you use. You use drugs or alcohol to escape, relax, or reward yourself. Therefore you relapse when you don't take care of yourself and create situations that are mentally and emotionally draining that make you want to escape. For example, if you don't take care of yourself and eat poorly or have poor sleep habits, you'll feel exhausted and want to escape. If you don't let go of your resentments and fears through some form of relaxation, they will build to the point where you'll feel uncomfortable in your own skin. If you don't ask for help, you'll feel isolated. If any of those situations continues for too long, you will begin to think about using. But if you practice self-care, you can avoid those feelings from growing and avoid relapse. (Reference: www.AddictionsAndRecovery.org Mental Relapse It gets harder to make the right choices as the pull of addiction gets stronger. Techniques for Dealing with Mental Urges In mental relapse there's a war going on in your mind. Part of you wants to use, but part of you doesn't. In the early phase of mental relapse you're just idly thinking about using. But in the later phase you're definitely thinking about using. The signs of mental relapse are: • Thinking about people, places, and things you used with • Glamorizing your past use • Lying • Hanging out with old using friends • Fantasizing about using • Thinking about relapsing • Planning your relapse around other people's schedules --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/soberisdope/message Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/soberisdope/support

To wrap up this series on surrender vs submission, we’re going to look at two important footnotes: One is the phenomenon of the rebel, a character we all love to love, and the dangers that come with glamorizing rebellion — there is a fine line between a rebel and a consummate teenager. Second is one of the most common forms of resistance that you are likely to experience in life: your natural fears when confronted with an opportunity to change. President Dwight D. Eisenhower often said that what is important is rarely urgent and what is urgent is rarely important. I’ve found that the most badass people I know, the ones who are the best in the world at their craft, are rarely busy in the way we’ve been taught to think of it. Being busy is a disease, a terminal one. It destroys your precious time. Being effective is about using every minute thoughtfully and mindfully as you make steady progress toward your dream. The biggest surprise to me has been that those people, those creators who are so deliberate and planned in the way they work, are also incredibly joyful and playful while they work. Planning and play aren’t opposites; they complement each other beautifully. Food for thought. Enjoy! Today's episode is brought to you by CreativeLive. Heist movies are often fun, creative, and so very satisfying. Which is weird, right? Are we doing anything more than glamorizing criminals?
Back in December of 2019, I had the pleasure of hosting a panel for Girl’s Girl, an organization that aims to bring together female-owned businesses through markets, events, and of course, panels. On the panel were Emilie Nolan, who is a dear friend of mine and owner of a fine jewelry brand then called Gemmie, now called Oremme; Valeria Lipovetsky, the CEO of VALERIA INC, the team behind the content she shares on Instagram and YouTube; and Amber Joliat, owner of MISFITSTUDIO, a studio known for the MISFIT Method, a style of movement that Amber created. The theme of the night was to get to the down and dirty about owning your own business — a path which is often glamourized. This was a live recording, so the audio is the BEST, but if you missed it, you can still hear words from these inspiring women.Find Valeria on IG @valerialipovetsky, Amber at @theamberj and @misfitstudio, and Emilie at @emilievnolan @oremmefinejewelry.

Pernah tak terfikir certain psychological concepts are over-represented or popularized dalam culture? Depression and various mental health issues are being pushed everyday and are being normalized through mainstream media. House.. genius Doctor tapi depressed, Sherlock.. ada anxiety.. 13 Reasons Why.. and the list goes on. Aku rant ni bukan mengkritik depression or anxiety itself but the glamorization of it. Budaya menormalisasikan depression as if ni benda yang common dan harus dilayani oleh setiap individu is utter nonsense.

It’s time for us to learn how to be empathetic to people who commit suicide and the survivors but it’s also time for us to have common sense and stop glamorizing something that is terrible and causes so much distraction to other people. Suicide rates are high in the business world especially with entrepreneurs with so much at stake this is a conversation everyone should be having

Glamorizing entrepreneurship
Have you checked out the Vice Channel on TV? It seems that this is a channel that is mainly devoted to glamorizing marijuana use. I'll have to admit that marijuana isn't the worst drug out there, and it is legal in some states. However, using a drug with the intention of getting high still equals drug abuse, be it a legal drug or not. It seems like Vice is glamorizing getting high through the use of marijuana. Is this something that we should tolerate?
Way outside our cities and towns are societies of disappearing and endangered indigenous people . Some of us may think that’s natural— it’s been happening forever. Others fight to protect those cultures and have very strong opinions about what’s right and what’s wrong for those people. One of those opinions is whether there’s a “right way” to depict people who are different than us— who are not living in urbanized or Western societies. I was surprised by just how controversial this subject really was. I guess it’s ok that we’re surrounded by spectacular images that romanticize cars, sports, and marriage. Really anything commercial— but to apply a similar heroic lens to people who are different than us, well, that could be sacrilege. It seems there are people out there who believe that the only way to photograph those folks needs to be as an anthropological documentarian— capturing people only how they’re actually living vs in their Sunday best— proud, celebrated, glamorized. I mean, isn’t that what we do when we take pictures of ourselves? We're not posting pictures of ourselves hanging in sweatpants and stuffing our face with Fritos. It’s ok that we’re beautiful but god forbid that we make that commentary about those poor, exotic people living on the edge of the world. There are no edges to this world. There are people who live far away from our dense, standardized populations but our cultures are the edge from their point of view. This week it was my pleasure to talk to photographer Jimmy Nelson from his place in Amsterdam on his way out to another remote destination. Jimmy has been a photographer for over 30 years and his book “Before they Pass Away,” showcases 35 disappearing tribal cultural around the world. He captures them with stunning images. They’re truly incredible portraits of vanishing people. Be sure to visit growbigalways.com to check out a portfolio of his images as well as a video that will give you an up close look at what it’s like traveling and capturing remote and spectacularly loving societies. As Jimmy puts it, photographing these people are as much about discovering them as it is about discovering himself and how he belongs in the world. Really isn’t that what we’re all trying to do? We’re all on that same journey. I hope you enjoy listening to Jimmy’s and it inspires you to engage in his important work, which I guarantee will have a huge impact on you.
