The panel thoroughly examined the hottest topics in the fight world in the latest Ringside Report MMA show episode. From Conor McGregor's surprising announcement to Jamal Hill's electrifying knockout, the show was brimming with insights and analysis. The hosts, Dave Simon and Fred Garcia, alongside the frequently disconnected AJ D'Alesio, confidently shared their unique perspectives and predictions. Key Takeaways Conor McGregor's upcoming fight against Michael Chandler is a significant event in the MMA calendar. Jamal Hill's impressive knockout win over Khalil Rountree Jr. has solidified his status as a rising star, but his quick return to the octagon raises concerns. Islam Makhachev's dominant performance against Dustin Poirier has cemented his position as a lightweight champion, but his confidence could be a potential weakness. The PFL continues to gain momentum in the MMA world and its Gegard Mousasi problem. The Anderson Silva vs. Chael Sonnen boxing match generates buzz, but some believe a jiu-jitsu match would be more compelling. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rdlSs4mVW5Y Watch the episode on YouTube above or listen to the audio podcast below. McGregor's Return to the Octagon The night's biggest news was Conor McGregor's revelation of his upcoming fight against Michael Chandler. This announcement has sent shockwaves through the MMA community, with speculation already running rampant about how this fight will play out. The Ringside Report crew broke down the potential strategies of both fighters, offering their predictions and analysis. Hill's Knockout and Makhachev's Reign The panel also discussed Jamal Hill's stunning first-round knockout victory over Khalil Rountree Jr., solidifying his position as a rising star in the light heavyweight division. Dave expressed concern over Hill's quick return to the octagon after a recent knockout, while Fred saw the appeal of fighting on a high-profile card like Conor McGregor's. Poster for UFC 303: Will it be Conor McGregor's last stand UFC 302: Islam Makhachev vs. Dustin Poirier The conversation then turned to Islam Makhachev's dominant win over Dustin Poirier, further cementing his status as a lightweight champion to be reckoned with. While all three hosts acknowledged Makhachev's skill, Dave voiced concerns about the champion's perceived cockiness and potential to overlook opponents. Fred countered, emphasizing Makhachev's undeniable talent and the strategic advantage his wrestling poses against Poirier's striking. Placing your bets? Use our link at bet99.ringsidereport.net Anderson Silva vs. Chael Sonnen: A Trilogy in the Making Boxing in Brazil The hosts also dove into the upcoming boxing match between MMA legends Anderson Silva and Chael Sonnen in Brazil. Dave and Fred expressed excitement for the event, particularly due to the nostalgia and history between the two fighters. However, Fred questioned Sonnen's decision to box Silva, given Anderson's superior striking skills and experience in professional boxing. In his characteristically choppy manner, AJ advocated for a jiu-jitsu match instead, highlighting the unique appeal of grappling contests. PFL Goobles Up Bellator Other Hot Topics In addition to these major stories, the Ringside Report touched on a variety of other topics: PFL's Growth: The panel discussed the Professional Fighters League's (PFL) rise and its efforts to rid itself of Gegard Mousasi's Bellator contract, highlighting PFL's unique format and growing popularity. Pro Wrestling Crossover: The show concluded with a brief look at the upcoming pro wrestling events, showcasing the intersection between MMA and the world of sports entertainment. Conclusion This episode of the Ringside Report was a must-watch for any MMA fan. With in-depth analysis, expert predictions, and a wide range of topics covered, it's clear that this show is a valuable resource for staying up-to-date on the l...

On today's episode of Locked On Ducks, Spencer McLaughlin goes through one of the defense's biggest question marks going into next year. Veteran safety Jamal Hill might go the way of Jeffrey Bassa and convert to linebacker, so how do their skillsets compare? Plus, a question comes in about the sorts of tight end recruits Oregon has been going after lately. When Oregon lost to Big 10 foe Wisconsin in the NIT Quarterfinals, Dana Altman expressed frustration that only about 3,300 fans showed up for the game. Oregon AD Rob Mullens swiftly announced a move to try and change that trend going forward.Support Us By Supporting Our Sponsors!Built BarBuilt Bar is a protein bar that tastes like a candy bar. Fall camp is now just TWO days away! On this episode, host Max Torres previews what's in store for the Oregon defense in 2022. The Ducks have a bunch of talent at every level of their defense, but there's varying levels of production and experience. Starting up front, expectations are high for the defensive line with returning veterans like Brandon Dorlus, Popo Aumavae and Keyon Ware-Hudson. They're joined by newcomer and Washington transfer Sam 'Taki' Taimani. Moving back to the linebackers, Noah Sewell and Justin Flowe headline what is one of the most talented linebacker corps in the entire country. Behind them you have some very promising young talent in Jeffrey Bassa, Jackson LaDuke and Keith Brown. Oregon also added speedsters Harrison Taggart and Devon Jackson, who could see the field sooner than later with their crazy speed. DJ Johnson and Bradyn Swinson look like they could be the answer for pass rusher as the defense looks to fill the void created by Kayvon Thibodeaux's departure. In the secondary Bennett Williams boasts the most experience at safety, while the Ducks hope of breakouts by Trikweze Bridges, Jamal Hill and Steve Stephens IV among others. Cornerback is the youngest position group and looks like it will be led by Colorado transfer Christian Gonzalez while they hope for some younger and newer faces to step up like Dontae Manning and Jahlil Florence. According to a report from 247Sports, Dan Lanning and his staff have, for the third time, convinced an Oregon Football player who put his name in the portal to stay with the school. 4-star Class of 2021 safety Daymond David took an official visit to Florida State, but it seems he has decided to return to the Ducks. Kristian Williams, however, a former 3-star defensive lineman, has left the program and is headed to Missouri to play for the Tigers. On this episode of Locked On Ducks, Spencer McLaughlin looks at the secondary depth (specifically at safety) if the report about Daymond David is accurate. The number of names adds up quicker than some may realize with players like Jamal Hill, Bennett Williams, JJ Greenfield and others in the safety room--but the experience beyond Williams and Hill is rather thin. The safety position (with the departure of Verone McKinley) remains a legitimate question for the year 1 defense of Dan Lanning and Tosh Lupoi. A listener sends in a question asking about some of Oregon's best all-time players, specifically running backs. There have been more than a few top-notch tailbacks for the Ducks over the years, and Spencer goes through the best that he's seen in his lifetime. The Dawgman.com interns - Jack McCauley and Intern Emeritus Luke Mounger - break down what they've seen from the Oregon Ducks so far this season and how they match up against the Washington Huskies going into Saturday afternoon's game at Husky Stadium. Luke tackles the Ducks' offense first, focusing with his take on their quarterback, Anthony Brown. He also touches on their offensive line and the skill players the Ducks should rely on to move the ball against Washington, namely Travis Dye, Johnny Johnson, Devon Williams, and Mycah Pittman. How will the Huskies try and stem UO's potent run game? They've had difficulty all year stopping good run offenses, but has the emergence of younger defenders like Carson Bruener and Voi Tunuufi help change that trend? And can Washington's pass defense, which has been really good all year long, continue to hold up and force Oregon into some uncomfortable down-and-distance situations? Do they resemble any other teams the Huskies have faced?  Moving to the other side of the ball, Jack breaks down Oregon's players of note on their defense, starting with defensive end Kayvon Thibodeaux. He also mentions Keyon Ware-Hudson, Popo Aumavae, and Brandon Dorlus as other defensive linemen to pay attention to. Moving to linebacker, Noah Sewell is the man in the middle for Oregon. He also talks about Oregon's secondary, including Mykael Wright, DJ James, Verone McKinley, Jamal Hill, Steve Stephens, and others, where they are the No. 10 pass defense in the Pac-12. Are there some holes in the Ducks' defense that Washington can exploit? Jack and Luke go into some of the UW players that would need to have big days to keep up with the No. 4 Ducks, as well as schemes and plays they expect to see from the Huskies to combat UO's defense. And they think the weather could be a factor too. To finish up the preview podcast, Jack and Luke give their confidence levels for a Washington win. There's no question if the Huskies were able to defeat Oregon it would be considered a big upset. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

Up until Jamal's college swimming years, he never really told people about his condition. Like myself, he didn't want people to look at him differently because of his condition. After a college swim meet that went poorly, Jamal had an epiphany, he was going to drop out of college and become a pro swimmer! (June 30, 2021)Jamal Hill is a 24-year-old Paralympic swimmer. He is ranked number 1 in his classification in the US Paralympic freestyle in both the 50m and 100m. At ten years old, he first experienced a temporary total paralysis, and doctors considered amputating his right arm. Ultimately, he received the diagnosis of Charcot-Marie-Tooth (CMT) disease - a degenerative neurological disease that typically weakness muscles in the legs and arms. Jamal is a budding star, in part due to his growing brand and media presence. He has been featured in many ads, including Speedo and Airbnb, and has been profiled in multiple short news documentaries. In 2018, Jamal founded the non-profit organization "Swin Uphill." Its mission is to teach one million people how to swim through private training, sponsors, and a digital swim school platform — the organization targets low-income communities. Jamal was named the 2021 Cullen Jones Aquatic Athlete of the year, presented by Diversity in Aquatics. “Anti-Blackness is woven into the fabric of our society” - Jamal Hill In what might be one of our most self-reflective episodes yet, for the last installment of Swimming Week Johanna and Derek are joined by Jamal Hill, a Black Paralympic swimmer who is currently training for the 2021 Tokyo Olympic Games. We talk to Jamal about what it was like growing up not only as a Black person in the US—where he suggested he only felt comfortable speaking openly about his feelings about racism in the aftermath of George Floyd's murder in 2020—but as a black swimmer with Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease in a predominantly white sport. Jamal credits the YMCA in providing opportunities for Black and other minoritized Americans to learn how to swim, and discusses the challenges that CMT poses for his training and the importance of advocating for sporting opportunities for children with disabilities. Importantly, Jamal's grasp of the broader, 600+ year history of Black swimming thanks to Kevin Dawson and Jeff Wiltse's historical works, underpins his perspective on the extent to which American swim has or has not changed (hint: not much). In the second half of the episode, Jamal shares his thoughts on a wide variety of topics, from what it meant to learn about and present to public audiences on IG TV about Dawson's historical work on the African diaspora's rich aquatics history, to the limitations of white swimmers' activism today (with huge props to Simone Manuel, Naomi Osaka, and others). He moreover offered a compelling perspective about elite swimming's future in the US: should it remain an NCAA sport when it does not generate revenue, or should swimmers branch out and pursue different training opportunities beyond the college model? You might be surprised at his answer! You can find Jamal Hill on Instagram @swimuphill and on Twitter @swimuphill, and his foundation to teach one million children how to swim, Swim Up Hill, here. In this episode, Johanna and Nathan speak with historian Kevin Dawson about how his book, Undercurrents of Power: Aquatic Culture in the African Diaspora completely debunks the historical and contemporary white supremacist myth about Black people's innate inability to swim. Dawson explains how from about the 1400s-1800s African peoples were some of the biggest swimming, canoeing, diving, and surfing experts worldwide because they taught their young children to swim and find communal meaning in the water. The aquatic sphere defined their ways of living, occupations, and leisure activities. When white European colonizers – who feared the water - approached West African shores in the 1400s, they were amazed to find African people frolicking in the ocean and diving to great depths. As whites colonized and enslaved Black peoples in subsequent centuries, the two groups used the latter's aquatics skills to negotiate their power vis-à-vis one another. Whereas enslaved Africans did things such as only selectively save white people during maritime disasters, work more slowly, and find prestige in their success in water competitions, white slaveholders in North America especially exploited Africans' swimming skills through the same water competitions and other tactics. Until the post-Civil War era, white Europeans and American slaveholders framed enslaved people's aquatic abilities in racist terms by describing them as animal-like, in comparison to their own white, “civilized” way of living.  You will not want to miss the second half of the episode! Dawson explains how the shift to our present-day white supremacist ideas about Black people's innate inability to swim began in the early 1900s, when whites transformed sites of water to sites of trauma for Black Americans. They segregated public pools under the guise of needing to protect their white wives and families from Black and other minoritized groups' “filth” and “criminality.” Particularly traumatic moments such as the lynching and dumping of Emmett Till's body in the river reinforced the water as a site of death for the Black American community, such that the latter began to understood swimming and the water as sites of white leisure and “un-black.” At the end of the episode, Dawson details his work engaging with public audiences and swim team by educating them about his work. He also explains his surprise and joy at seeing Black Paralympic swimmer Jamal Hill discuss Undercurrents of Power to viewers in an IG TV video for USA Master's Swimming, as well as the limitations of Team USA's current attempts to tackle the history of anti-Black racism in American swimming history.  You can find Kevin Dawson's groundbreaking book, Undercurrents of Power: Aquatic Culture in the African Diaspora, here. Black Paralympic swimmer Jamal Hill's fantastic IG TV video for the USA Master's Swimming Instagram account can be found here. Hill will be our guest for a future episode of Swimming Week, so stay tuned! Team USA's limited attempt to confront our racist history of swimming can be found here (note too that no scholars of color are cited), and its beautiful IG post can be found here. Jamal Hill Richardson-Albini is a world champion Karate and Kickboxing martial artist. He is also a strength coach, former division one basketball player and business owner. So he has a lot of stories and we had a lot of time to sit back and kick it at his gym, Prevail Fitness in Laguna Beach this past month. Jamal gave me the run down on his athletic career and motivations, learning to find his ideal flow state before fights (it took him some tinkering with his walk-in music to get the right vibe), and what the flow state means to each individual. We also dove down the rabbit hole in regard to the training schedules of MMA fighters and just how insane they are, which led into some really interesting places. Jamal has been a good friend for a few years now and I love talking training with him. He is very meticulous in his approach yet knows when to turn his brain off and compete, a rare find in our world.
