POPULARITY
Behavioral finance is a critical area that merges psychology with finance to understand why people make irrational financial decisions. It's important to note that people's emotions, cognitive errors, and biases often drive these decisions, leading to poor investment choices. Being happy while dealing with investments is crucial. Let's examine some of the psychological aspects of investing and how they can be managed to create a better and less stressful investment experience. Psychological Aspects of Investing Analysis Paralysis Analysis paralysis is a common issue many investors face. With countless investment options available, individuals can become overwhelmed, and as a result, they may not make any investment decisions at all. This can lead to missed opportunities and unproductive financial stagnation. Fear of Missing Out The fear of missing out (FOMO) is another psychological challenge that investors often grapple with. This fear, driven by the desire to replicate others' financial successes, can lead to impulsive and high-risk investment decisions. Recognizing and managing this fear is essential to avoid detrimental financial choices. Overemphasis on Short-Term Volatility Another psychological challenge in investing is placing excessive emphasis on short-term market fluctuations. Reacting emotionally to daily market movements can lead to poor decision-making and can negatively impact long-term investment strategies. Complexity in Cross-Border Investing For those dealing with cross-border investments, the complexity of managing investments in multiple countries can be overwhelming. Regulatory hurdles, tax implications, and cultural differences in investment philosophies can create significant stress for expatriates and immigrants. Managing Your Stress Investing your money is stressful, but it doesn't have to be overwhelming. Managing stress effectively can lead to better investment outcomes and a more enjoyable investing experience. Here are some strategies to help lower stress and improve investment decision-making: 1. Simplification and Focus Consolidating and simplifying investment accounts can help you gain a clearer understanding of your financial situation. By focusing on a defined investment strategy, you can avoid being overwhelmed by too many choices and better manage your portfolios. 2. Diversification Diversifying investments is an essential strategy to spread risk and avoid excessive exposure to any single investment. By diversifying across different asset classes and sectors, investors can lower the risk of significant losses caused by a single investment's failure, thus leading to a more relaxed investment. 3. Develop a Plan Having a clear financial plan can help you stay focused on your long-term objectives and avoid making impulsive decisions based on short-term market movements. A well-defined plan provides a roadmap for achieving financial goals and reduces anxiety about investment decisions. 4. Build a Resilient Mindset Engaging in stress management techniques, such as meditation, physical exercise, or taking regular breaks from financial decision-making, can promote a resilient mindset. A calm and focused approach to investing can lead to better decision-making and reduced emotional reactivity to market swings. 5. Educate Yourself Continuously learning about investment concepts, market dynamics, and financial planning can empower you to make better-informed decisions. Well-informed investors are better equipped to manage their financial stress and maintain a long-term perspective on their investments. 6. Choose a Good Advisor Selecting the right financial advisor who prioritizes understanding the client's individual needs and goals is essential. A good advisor should focus on building a personalized financial plan aligned with the client's objectives rather than pitching investment products. Armed with these valuable insights and tips, it's time to implement them so you can experience a happier and less stressful investment journey. Happy investing, and may your financial journey be filled with success and joy! In this week's solo episode, I'm talking about relating to and managing your stress. As you know, there is no shortage of stress in our lives from work, school, kids, family, and the world. The question I want to ask you is, what are you doing with your stress? I have a suspicion that a lot of us are muting our stress, rather than managing it. If you are muting, you spend a lot of time numbing and detaching from your body and emotions. The impact of this causes you to waste hours of your week! Here's what we'll talk about to help you get those hours back: How to start tangibly thinking about stress so that you can release it from your body. How to evaluate when you experience a change of state and then recreate it. How to experiment and find a groove of what feels good, what's realistic, and what's working. Welcome to the Wake Up Call Podcast with Alicia Hopkins (that's me!). My goal in this podcast is to share valuable and actionable tips on what I call the “Core Four” - mindfulness, movement, habits, and growth - so you can build a life that feels true to you. Are you feeling weighed down with stress? Are you wondering how much longer you can carry this heavy load without making some sort of change? I have felt this way many times in life!! When you're carrying a load that's starting to get too heavy to carry, you have two options: drop the load, or reposition your grip. Let me just say, repositioning your grip is much better than dropping the load! However, repositioning your grip takes time as well as many mindset shifts. In this week's podcast episode, I share four different ways that we can change our mindset so that we can reposition our grip and carry the load of stress better. The four mindset shifts I share in the episode are: 1. Understand what lies you are believing about yourself 2. Taking five deep breaths is more helpful than you may think 3. Focus on the higher vision 4. Focus on helping others I want to encourage you that God's got you because He will help you find ways to carry the load of stress better. God wants you to live life on purpose. God wants you to lean into your gifts and help others. But God doesn't want you to burn out. God doesn't want you to be overwhelmed with stress and anxiety. God doesn't want you to feel drained and empty. God knows how you can live life well, and He wants to show you how. Proverbs 3:6 states, "In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths." If we acknowledge God in our tasks and commit them to Him, He will help us understand how we can shift our mindsets and live life the way God created us to. Never forget that girl, God's got you!

We have big worries because we have little faith. Christians have a chance to shine in our anxious world because - unlike everyone around us - we don't have to worry. And, since we've been taking Jesus seriously in His Sermon on the Mount, we could say that it's wrong for us to worry. Wrong because we have clear promises from a faithful Shepherd. Today Jim will wrap up his sermon, Managing Your Stress. Listen to Right Start Radio every Monday through Friday on WCVX 1160AM (Cincinnati, OH) at 9:30am, WHKC 91.5FM (Columbus, OH) at 5:00pm, WRFD 880AM (Columbus, OH) at 9:00am and WRZN 720AM (Gainesville & Ocala, FL) at 7:30am. Birds have no refrigerators! Birds also have no can openers, no pantries - not even a plastic storage container. They receive their "daily bread" when it's needed. Maybe we should trust God more, like our feathered friends. Jesus was making a point by asking, rhetorically, "Aren't you more valuable than a bird?" The Lord posed 5 such questions in this part of the Sermon on the Mount, and we'll cover most of them today. Here's Jim with Part 2 of Managing Your Stress. In the "hierarchy of needs," Jesus invites us to skip Level 1. Poor Abe Maslow: He didn't know that our most basic needs - food, clothing, shelter - could be charged to the account of a heavenly Father. He should have studied the Sermon on the Mount! That's what we've been doing; and we'll continue today with the opening of a message on Managing Your Stress. Now that everyone has turned the volume up, here's Jim. How do you do show up as the best version of yourself? We all have those days when we don’t show up as our best selves, but it really doesn’t help to beat yourself up about it. The solution could be quite simple. Today I’m excited to welcome our special guest, Dr. Greg Kelly. Greg is a Naturopathic physician (N.D.), lead product formulator, and author. In this episode, Greg shares the importance of understanding concepts and mental models, so we don’t blame ourselves for our behaviors. Being grouchy or irritable is a symptom that your mental energy is depleted. Often, all we need is an opportunity to recharge to show up as the best versions of ourselves. *** Do you want to stay up to date with every new episode and get my brand new Kwik Brain Accelerator Program? I've been told by way too many doctors that the reason I get sick so often is because of my stress level. It's time to make a change.
Main tiktok aja disangka "sakit"?!? Pergi ke psikiater disangka gila?!? Ga dapet pertolongan, malah dapet bully-an. Gimana ini? Coronavirus Crisis: Carpe Diem Episode 16: Who Am I, Really? Identity and Resiliency May 18, 2020 Welcome to the podcast Coronavirus Crisis: Carpe Diem, where you and I rise up and embrace the possibilities and opportunities for spiritual and psychological growth in this time of crisis, all grounded in a Catholic worldview. We are going beyond mere resiliency, to rising up to the challenges of this pandemic and becoming even healthier in the natural and the spiritual realms than we were before. I'm clinical psychologist Peter Malinoski your host and guide, with Souls and Hearts at soulsandhearts.com. Thank you for being here with me. This is episode 16, released on May 18, 2020 entitled Who Am I, Really? Identity and Resiliency In the last episode, we discussed the main sign of psychological health. I asked you to send in your thoughts about what is that main sign. In the Resilient Catholics Carpe Diem community space at Souls and Hearts, which we launched a week ago, I was having a great exchange with Kathleen which spurred me on to some further consideration about integration, resiliency and especially identity. Really want to thank you, Kathleen. Alright, I want to take you back with, way back to the beginning human history, come on with me to Genesis 3. We're picking it up in the middle of the story. Adam and Eve have fallen to Satan's temptation and eaten the fruit of the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil. Let's listen to the story but be thinking about the theme of identity – Who Adam and Eve were, and how they saw themselves. That's what I want you to keep in mind. So put your listening ears on, and get ready -- It's story time with Dr. Peter. Then the eyes of both were opened, and they knew that they were naked; and they sewed fig leaves together and made themselves aprons. And they heard the sound of the Lord God walking in the garden in the cool of the day, and the man and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the Lord God among the trees of the garden. But the Lord God called to the man, and said to him, “Where are you?” And he said, “I heard the sound of thee in the garden, and I was afraid, because I was naked; and I hid myself.” Here we see a radical shift in both who Adam and Eve really were – they had been in a state of grace and now they have fallen into sin. Also, though, you have a radical shift in how Adam and Eve see themselves. They hear God walking in the garden, gently calling out to them – and God, being all know, He knew exactly where they were. In his gentleness, in His consideration for them, he didn't want to startle them or disconcert them any more than they already were. He was calling out to let them know He was coming. And their response – to be afraid, to hide from him. Their identities were devastated. Think about what just happened. Very difficult to underestimate the catastrophic psychological effects of the fall. We get the physical effects of the fall, the effects of the fall on our bodies -- Subjective identity includes the experiences (and how we recall those experiences), the close relationships, and values that come together to form one's subjective sense of self. You might say subjective identity is who we feel ourselves to be, in the given moment. For some that sense of identity is more consistent and stable, and for others, it may vary more from day to day. Conscious Subjective Identity Who we profess ourselves to be. Unconscious Subjective Identity – Parts of us that hold assumptions about us that are not available in conscious awareness. There are moments when these unconscious assumptions break into conscious awareness – particularly when we are stressed, tired, overwhelmed. These moments are when our regular defenses open up and some of what we keep out of awareness starts bubbling up. Example: Remember the Boasting Traveler from Aesop's fable in the last episode - episode 15- you know, the one how bragged about how he made the most prodigious leap in the city of Rhodes? That traveler was troubled with narcissism – deep sense of sense of inferiority, weakness, shame, and inadequacy. These were not in conscious awareness – but those unconscious beliefs existed and they influenced and motivated his behavior to try to impress others. But then the bystander punctured his puffed up presentation – challenged his boast and may have deflated him, brought him into contact with his own inadequacy, both real and felt. Another example of unconscious subjective assumptions about ourselves. Let's look at dependency. Dependent people may not be in touch with their deep unconscious beliefs that they will only have their needs met if they are subordinated to more powerful others – they need the powerful other person to make them whole or complete. Every personality style every personality disorder has implications for our conscious and unconscious assessments of ourselves. In a word, every personality style reflects assumptions about our identity. So let's break this concept of identity down into a more fine-grained analysis. Come on with me as we go deeper into this. Objective identity is who we actually are. How God knows us to be. The reality of who we are. This doesn't depend at all on our opinion of ourselves. This isn't as much in fashion these days, the concept of objective reality. Divine revelation, which doesn't care much about current fads and fashions in secular psychology, though, Divine revelation teaches us a lot about who we are as human beings – objective reality from the One who is Truth. Subjectivism is the doctrine that "our own mental activity is the only unquestionable fact of our experience", instead of shared or communal, and that there is no external or objective truth. My truth. You have your truth and I have my truth. And there is no objective truth. But reality has a way of hanging around – even in secular psychology. So we still have the concepts of delusions and hallucinations—characteristic of departing from reality, breaking with reality. So those three elements – 1. Who we really are in the mind of God (objective reality)2. Who we profess ourselves to be3. What we unconsciously assume ourselves to be Relate these back to Adam and Eve Triangle of Pathology – 1: who we really on in God's eyes 2: Who we believe ourselves to be in our conscious awareness – this is who we profess ourselves to be – “I am a beloved child of God”. 3: The unconscious beliefs we hold about ourselves those that are outside of conscious awareness, but that still impact us. When those three points come together into a single point, we are grounded in reality. The size and the shape of the triangle tell us something about how well adjusted we are. Exercise – go back and remember how you thought about yourself when you were in your dark place. What kinds of assumptions came bubbling up. This may not be hard for some of you, because you may be in your dark place right now. But if you're not in your dark, hard place remember back to it. There are clues to what you may unconscious think and feel about yourself. If you can begin to work on those assumptions in both the natural realm and in the spiritual realm you may not have to go back to that dark place as much. Or it may not be as intense. Review the points made. I am listening to you! I've had multiple requests on the topic of grief and resiliency so be with us in the next episode, coming out on Memorial Day, May 25 where we will get into that in depth. What you say really matters to me, and it helps me tailor this podcast to what you need. Keep the suggestions coming in! We have a Action item: Register for the Resilient Catholics: Carpe Diem! Community here. Working on growing the community and becoming more connected. To that end, here are two opportunities. We're a small community, so let's take advantage of that. Let's really get to know each other. Zoom meeting On Friday, May 29 at 7:30 PM Eastern time. 6-12 of the community members and me, and I'll make a brief presentation on the special topic of Grief, Loss and Resilience. I will also present some exercises you can do on your own after the meeting. Zoom meeting, register in the community space, starting on Wednesday, May 20. Seating is limited. Last one hour. Very interactive. Since we're working with such small groups, we are doing a Zoom meeting rather than a webinar. Zoom meeting: On Saturday, June 6, 5:00 PM Eastern time This one will be much more experiential and it will be about Managing Your Stress. Lots of tips, pointers and recommendations about stress management during the time of the coronavirus. That one will also last for 60 minutes. Dr. Peter, Dr. Peter, I can't make those times? Can I still watch? Absolutely, we don't want to leave anyone behind. Yes, we will record both the meetings for later viewing for those who are in the community. Register for the community – I get on the discussion boards several times a week, and I respond more quickly to the conversations on those discussion board than I can to my email. Register with us first 30 days are free, so these two zoom meetings will be free. No one left behind because of financial need. If the $25 per month is too much, then contact me at crisis@soulsandhearts.com Dr. Gerry and I don't want financial concerns to ever keep anyone away from benefitting from what Souls and Hearts has to offer. To register, login to Souls and hearts.com and go to the home page, scroll down and you'll see the “Resilient Catholics: Carpe Diem) right in the middle. All right, the most important thing – prayer and sacrifice. Please pray for Souls and Hearts. Please pray for me and for our community and for this podcast, that it be what God our Father and Mary our Mother want it to be. Thank you for all the prayers. And that's a wrap for today. And in closing, Let's invoke our patroness and patron: Mother Mary, undoer of knots, pray for us. St. John the Baptist, pray for us.
High blood sugar is a factor in many chronic diseases and in this episode, Angela shares the results of tracking her own blood sugar levels. She explains what blood sugar variability means for your body and shares great practical advice that can be used immediately to manage blood sugar levels. Stress is present in all our lives and Angela explains how cortisol impacts the body and the actions you can take, to control your levels of cortisol, manage your blood sugar variability and optimise your life and longevity. KEY TAKEAWAYS Keeping cortisol low is important for blood composition. Stress leads to the elevation of cortisol and cortisol raises blood sugar. Exercising in the morning means you are making the best of the ketones that are available and potentially increase fat burning. To keep your body in a fat-burning mode you need to avoid eating a diet high in carbohydrates and refined sugar. When blood sugar rises and insulin is released it triggers the body to store fat instead of burning it. Exercise has been shown to help move sugar into the muscles for storage and causes an immediate increase in insulin sensitivity Research has shown that both aerobic and resistance training increase insulin sensitivity but a combination of both is the most effective and high-intensity interval training is the most time-efficient way to achieve this. The immune system does not perform as well when you are under stress its ability to fight infection is reduced. There are actions you can take to lower your stress levels, social connection and getting outside along with mediation and breath work will all make a difference. Your breath is your superpower, it’s the easiest way into your parasympathetic nervous system and using breathwork can bring a sense of calm and lower cortisol levels. BEST MOMENTS ‘Chronically stressed people can be skinny fat because high-stress levels cause fat to be stored in the abdominal area’ ‘It is more beneficial to focus on low carbohydrate and polyphenol-rich fruits such as berries and avocados’ ‘Resistance training has been shown to increase insulin sensitivity’ VALUABLE RESOURCES High Performance Health podcast series Transform your sleep DNA optimization High Performance website Christian Thomson website Superhuman Experiment Facebook ABOUT THE HOST Angela Foster Angela is a Nutritionist, Health and Performance Coach. Stress affects us in a variety of ways including mentally, physically, and emotionally. We sometimes feel the emotional and mental impact of stress, and we may be aware of some of the physical symptoms, but few people know about how stress impacts a variety of hormones. One of the hormones that stress can wreak havoc on is cortisol. We need a healthy balance of cortisol in our system for quality sleep, to maintain a healthy blood pressure and sugar level and for many other reasons.Cortisol out of balance can cause weight gain, interrupted sleep, cardiovascular issues, and many other physical maladies. Listen to today's episode to learn more and download the newsletter that Kitty wrote this week about cortisol levels and why you need to be aware of the importance of healthy levels. Also download Kitty's ebook on stress entitled, Stressed, Stretched, and Just Plain Overwhelmed: A Guide to Managing Your Stress and Developing a Greater Sense of Work-Life Balance. +++ SHRINK MY BRAIN +++ Research has shown that when we are exposed to continued stress, the volume of grey matter in areas of our brain responsible for self-control, decreases. You could say our brain shrinks. The more this happens, the more toxicity builds up in our lives, which eventually spills over within the work environment and onto the people we lead. When leaders are under a load of stress they are more prone to say or do things that can cause friction, misunderstandings, and hurt. This is a recipe for a toxic work environment. The good news is that stress can be managed and when managed can turn around a toxic workplace. The question is how. In this episode, you'll discover a few ways to lower stress, manage your emotions, and turn around a toxic work environment. This episode of "Teachers in Transition" offers that one can manage stress by employing a day-to-day practice of meditation, intentional mindfulness, and prayer. These practices help to slow one's mind and allows one to step back from the noise and chaos of our day-to-day world so that we can become more like third-party observers. We need to establish some distance from the chaos to deal with it more effectively.Kitty Boitnott is a Stress Management Coach and expert on teacher burnout. For most people, breathing isn't something you think much about. It's important, though, to recognize and appreciate that even though we breathe unconsciously, breathing shouldn't be taken for granted. We can go far longer without food or water to live than we can without oxygen. Breathing brings oxygen to the trillions of cells in our bodies and contributes to the proper function of those cells. Breathing is important and deep, intentional breathing at various times during the day can help ease your stress and the tension in your body.A transcript is available at http://bit.ly/2XARSvV.For more information about stress and how to handle it more effectively and proactively, check out Kitty's free ebook, Stressed, Stretched, and Just Plain Overwhelmed: A Guide to Managing Your Stress and Developing a Greater Sense of Worklife Balance. This! If you only listen to one episode over the next few weeks- THIS is the episode. I can’t wait for you to hear this interview with Dimity because her story because it is so real and relatable. Dimity is a super busy psychologist, flying all over Australia to work on some pretty harrowing jobs. Needless to say stress was HIGH. But even though she was preaching every day to others about what stress does to the body, she had no idea just how much it was affecting her PCOS symptoms- especially her acne, fatigue and fertility. This doesn’t mean that she had to quit her job. Instead, we just made a few critical tweaks to her diet and lifestyle and the symptoms she’d been told by her gynae were just ‘her normal’ started to resolve. Highlights, takeaways and quick wins:High stress and lack of sleep can cause our insulin to skyrocket- even when we are eating exactly the same diet. Insulin is what causes our testosterone to rise which stimulates acne, contributes to infertility and weight gainWe don’t have to eat perfectly to improve our insulin. Hangry attacks are a real thing- and are likely a big sign that your insulin isn’t working properly. Treating the root cause of PCOS can dramatically reduce the risk of pregnancy complications when you do conceive.Fertility: AMH test for egg count is a really inaccurate test, but often used by fertility centres to get you to spend money and freeze your eggs.Research published in the Journal of the American Medical Association showed that low AMH diminished ovarian reserve was not associated with infertilityActually they found that women with a low AMH have an 84% chance of getting pregnant within 12 months, compared with 75% of those who had a normal AMH. Eating less and exercising more is very rarely the answer for PCOS weightloss. Weight gain is not your fault- it’s generally due to insulinWeight loss will not ‘cure’ your PCOS symptomsOne of the most important things we did for Dimity was to identify that her insulin (the hormone that regulates our blood sugar) weren’t working properly and this was part of her PCOS ‘root cause’. The second part was recognising that it wasn’t just her diet that was contributing to her high insulin, it was also stress. Up to 80% of women with PCOS have some insulin resistance which is contributing to their PCOS- so this is likely you too. But you might not know this because you haven’t had the correct tests for insulin taken. So I’ve created a download of the best tests for insulin to pick up early stage insulin resistance. You can download those tests here: https://thepcosnutritionist.com/resources/episode-6/
Dr. Libby Brown shares the negative impact stress has on your health, different ways to cope as well as self-help techniques to help manage stress.
You may not have thought of eating for proper nutrition as a stress management strategy, but it is. To keep your body and mind in optimum shape, you need to maintain your health. A healthy body is a resilient body, and resilience is what you want to have when you get hit with a stressful event. If you are resilient, you will bounce back more quickly. If not, you may find yourself struggling to recover.Eating for stress management includes avoiding the so-called "comfort foods" and sticking to whole foods--fresh fruits and vegetables--and other produce that hasn't been highly processed. To learn more, download the free ebook, Stressed, Stretched, and Just Plain Overwhelmed: A Guide to Managing Your Stress and Developing a Greater Sense of Work-Life Balance.
