Welcome to this brand new spotlight series on Sales with ASLAN, ASLAN @ Home. In it, we will explore how the truths we teach in training, workshops, and courses can be taken home and used in the relationships that matter most. In today's kickoff episode, Tom and his daughter Tindell discuss what it means to have conversations about a lasting and meaningful identity with their kids. They each share personal stories of moments when they have been tempted to define themselves by what they do. Tom explains how you can see the world in one of two ways. One, you are in a pyramid just climbing to the top, or two, you are a piece of a puzzle with purpose and a unique opportunity because of who you are. Join them in this insightful and fun conversation, which we hope will benefit anyone with the title of parent, mentor, or friend!
My guest today is Evan Tindell. Evan graduated from MIT and became a professional poker player before entering the investing world. He's now the co-founder and CIO of Bireme Capital, where he's delivered over 19% annualized returns since 2016 by sticking to classic, old-school value investing. In this conversation, we talk about how Evan developed his philosophy, why he stuck with value through challenging cycles, and how he thinks about shorting meme stocks in a market dominated by narratives and momentum. We also dive into his views on the Mag 7, Tesla, Japan, and how he's using AI tools for his research. When Kip Tindell co-founded The Container Store in 1978, people laughed at him for wanting to sell empty boxes. But Kip and his partners had identified a clear problem—the tyranny of household clutter—and a new category of solutions: metal crates, stackable wicker baskets, sleek lucite canisters. The Container Store's promise of affordable organization made it an instant hit, and Kip's wife Sharon soon joined the partnership. Decades later, as online shopping took off, the business faltered; and in 2013, when The Container Store went public, Kip and Sharon came to regret it.This episode was produced by J.C. Hennes läkare hade skrivit om fallet i New England Journal of Medicine. Kroppens celler byts ju ut under livets gång. It is not what matters, som han uttrycker det. It is not what matters.Vincent Flink Amble-Naessläkare och skribent

JACKSON, Miss. (WLBT) - House Bill 1020, one of the more controversial bills passed during the 2023 Legislative session, is now in effect. “We're all excited about working with more law enforcement because any time you see blue lights, you're gonna not quite commit the crime,” said Wendell Watts. Previously, the Capitol Complex Improvement District spanned over 8.63 square miles. Now, that coverage area has doubled, giving Capitol Police primary jurisdiction in 15% of Jackson. “We've been building our police force, too,” said Mississippi Department of Public Safety Commissioner Sean Tindell. “We were granted up to 150 officers a year ago, and we've reached that goal. We actually have a couple more than that. So we built that foresight, [and] we've been preparing, and we're ready for the expansion.” So what happens if you call 911 in the new CCID? “911, right now, will go through all of us, Watts explained. “[It] will go through the Jackson Police Department. Now once AT&T is done with the 911 system for Capitol [Police], they will be routed to their dispatch system at that point.” When it comes to the new court system where judges and prosecutors are appointed rather than elected, construction on the new court house and holding facility is still in the works. “I think there were certain aspects of it that was struck down,” Tindell said. “But one of the things that did remain was having the CCID court, which is focused on misdemeanors, preliminary hearings, and bond hearings. Every municipality across the state has one of those.” However, Chief Justice Mike Randolph has yet to appoint a CCID judge at this time, which means the Jackson Municipal Court judges will continue to handle Capitol Police cases. Despite the coordination overlap in dispatch, court hearings, and cases, DPS and JPD feel the transition will be smooth. “I haven't seen that type of collaboration in a very long time,” Watts said. “I think we're going do a lot for the city.” “This is by no means a takeover,” Tindell said. “This is a force multiplier, and law enforcement agencies working together to create a safer city.” _________________________________________________________________ HINDS COUNTY, Miss. — The Hinds County Sheriff's Office is teaming up with Capitol police to launch the "4th of July Holiday Blitz." The operation, which kicks off Wednesday, July 3, and goes through Sunday, July 7, is aimed at enhancing safety and promoting “responsible celebrations during the holiday weekend,” according to a news release from the sheriff. The operation will include saturation patrols across Hinds County to deter criminal activity and enforce traffic laws. Residents can also expect to see traffic safety checkpoints that will target impaired drivers and seat belt violations, among other safety concerns. “Let's celebrate safely,” Sheriff Tyree Jones said. “Designate a sober driver, buckle up and enjoy the holiday responsibly.” ___________________________________________________________________ JACKSON, Miss. (WLBT) - A former Pearl police chief who was the subject of a 3 On Your Side investigation into possible misuse of Rankin County tax dollars now has a high-ranking role at one state agency while he's being investigated by another. The Department of Public Safety confirmed Dean Scott started working for Capitol Police on July 1. Spokesperson Bailey Martin said Scott was hired as a lieutenant and will be over communications and dispatch but did not disclose his salary. The average annual pay for a lieutenant with Capitol Police is approximately $70,000, according to records WLBT obtained from the Mississippi State Personnel Board. “With the growth of Capitol Police, the department is continuing to build its team and seeking experienced law enforcement officers to meet the demands of the expanding district,” Martin said in a statement to WLBT. “Dean Scott's former experience in communications will be an asset as a Dispatch Supervisor.”
7:20 a.m. - Sean Tindell - Commissioner, Department of Public Safety Topic: National Police Week and today being Peace Officers Memoria Day. He can also discuss the recent legislative session, what bills were passed that relate to DPS and Capitol Police, update from DPS, etc. 8:05 a.m. - Jim Richards - President and CEO, KLLM Transport Services Topic: Update on the transportation industry, the Biden administration has issued new deadlines for unreasonable percentage of over the road trucks to be EV. The industry is fighting back. His inside perspective on trucking and the truth about EV rigs.

Original Air Date: January 25, 2021 The moment I finished this interview, I went into the next room and told Adaora: “that was the best interview ever.” She looked at me incredulously. “You say that every single time,” she said. I know and it's true and for real this was epic Let me make the case. Lucas and I had an honest, vulnerable, and powerful conversation. Right at the beginning, we discovered some similarities and connections between us that gave us both spiritual goosebumps. That set the stage and tone for a real, honest, heart-to-heart conversation. Lucas went on to share his powerful and inspiring journey. He was transparent about his ups and even his downs. Lately, I've noticed that many people tend to paint perfect pictures of their lives where everything is always going right. Lucas, on the other hand, shared his struggles in life and business with me – in the hopes that we could learn from the lessons that he's had to learn the hard way. He delivers some really valuable gifts for all of us in this interview. I really hope you will do yourself a humongous favor and listen to this conversation. And if you're not already convinced that this will be one of the best hours you can spend, then let me share a little bit more about Lucas. Lucas Tindell is an author, public speaker, corporate trainer/coach and host of a live video podcast. I'm happy to share my conversation with Evan Tindell of Bireme Capital. I've enjoyed Evan's thoughtful letters over the past couple of years and it was time to talk about this approach to investing. We dove into Evan's background as a poker player, how he looks to exploit biases in his investment process, and how he navigated the ‘20-'21 bubble in growth stocks as a short-seller and value-oriented investor. Disclaimer: This content is for entertainment purposes only. This is not investment advice. I am not your fiduciary or advisor. Hello everyone,I'm happy to share my conversation with Evan Tindell of Bireme Capital. If you're interested in his work, check out his three letters with thoughts on the bubble (part I - birth, part II - anatomy, part III - apex -“We believe inflation is likely to be the catalyst that ultimately pops the everything bubble” from 2Q21).Books mentioned: The Theory of Poker by David Sklansky.I hope you enjoy the conversation as much as I did. You can listen to it on: Spotify, Apple, at anchor, and via RSS.Through Evan I also found this interesting research paper on poker players as investors: “our findings suggest that skilled poker players are, on average, better fund managers.”“Extant academic work shows that winning poker players are more patient and less susceptible to behavioral biases such as the disposition effect … “patience is rewarded” among winning poker players, and these players tend to avoid “overweight[ing] frequent small gains vis-à-vis occasional large losses.”However, it's not as simple as picking a prominent poker player and hedge fund manager. It seems that after winning public tournaments, these managers take in more capital which leads to a decline in alpha.

The moment I finished this interview, I went into the next room and told Adaora: “that was the best interview ever.” She looked at me incredulously. “You say that every single time,” she said. I know and it’s true and for real this was epic Let me make the case. Lately, I’ve noticed that many people tend to paint perfect pictures of their lives where everything is always going right. Lucas, on the other hand, shared his struggles in life and business with me – in the hopes that we could learn from the lessons that he’s had to learn the hard way. He delivers some really valuable gifts for all of us in this interview. I really hope you will do yourself a humongous favor and listen to this conversation. And if you’re not already convinced that this will be one of the best hours you can spend, then let me share a little bit more about Lucas. Lucas Tindell is an author, public speaker, corporate trainer/coach and host of a live video podcast. Lucas has spent over ten years working in key leadership positions focusing not only on organizational development but primarily on the development of people. He now serves as a leadership development consultant, working with global leaders to identify strengths and areas of development for sustainable growth and improvement. Are you ready? Let’s do this. Gospel Scripture: (all NIV) Romans 3:23 “for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,” Romans 3:24 “and are justified freely by his grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus.” Romans 3:25 (a) “God presented him as a sacrifice of atonement, through faith in his blood.” Hebrews 9:22 (b) “without the shedding of blood there is no forgiveness.” Romans 5:8 “But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” Romans 5:11 “Not only is this so, but we also rejoice in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have now received reconciliation.” John 3:16 “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.” Romans 10:9 “That if you confess with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.” Luke 15:10 says “In the same way, I tell you, there is rejoicing in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner who repents.” Romans 8:1 “Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus” Ephesians 1:13–14 “And you also were included in Christ when you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation. Having believed, you were marked in him with a seal, the promised Holy Spirit, who is a deposit guaranteeing our inheritance until the redemption of those who are God's possession- to the praise of his glory.” Ephesians 1:15–23 “For this reason, ever since I heard about your faith in the Lord Jesus and your love for all the saints, I have not stopped giving thanks for you, remembering you in my prayers. I keep asking that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the glorious Father, may give you the spirit of wisdom and revelation, so that you may know him better. I pray also that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which he has called you, the riches of his glorious inheritance in the saints, and his incomparably great power for us who believe. That power is like the working of his mighty strength, which he exerted in Christ when he raised him from the dead and seated him at his right hand in the heavenly realms, far above all rule and authority, power and dominion, and every title that can be given, not only in the present age but also in the one to come. And God placed all things under his feet and appointed him to be head over everything for the church, which is his body, the fullness of him who fills everything in every way.” Ephesians 2:8–10 “For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith – and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God – not by works, so that no one can boast. For we are God‘s workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.“ Ephesians 2:13 “But now in Christ Jesus you who once were far away have been brought near through the blood of Christ.“ Philippians 1:6 “being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.”

The Governor announces his nominees for Corrections and Public Safety leadership. Then, casinos reopen their doors today. We look at how the two month shutdown impacted Mississippi's gaming industry and what patrons can expect when they return.Plus, in our Book Club, the photographs of a Neshoba county woman that illuminate the galvanizing events of the Jim Crow era in Mississippi.Segment 1:Governor Tate Reeves is nominating new chiefs for the state's Corrections and Public Safety agencies. Reeves announced the nominations during his daily press briefing yesterday. The first term Governor inherited a prison crisis that came to a fever pitch late last year as violence spread through the system. Reeves addressed the crisis, saying the it highlighted the systemic problems within the department of corrections. Before introducing his pick for the new Commissioner of Corrections, Reeves suggested that many of the department's problems were the result of poor leadership. Reeves is nominating Burl Cain, formally of Angola State Prison in Louisiana to be the new commissioner.Governor Reeves is also nominating Mississippi Court of Appeals Judge Sean Tindell of Gulfport as the new public safety commissioner. Tindell says his first 90 days in office will help him lay the foundation for the direction of the department.Segment 2:Mississippi casinos on the Gulf Coast and along the Mississippi River from Natchez to Tunica have been shuttered for two months, dealing an economic blow to casino workers and associated businesses. Over 20,000 workers state wide have been furloughed, and the shuttered gambling halls have cost the state valued tax revenue. But, that could change today as casinos reopen their doors. Larry Gregory is the Executive Director of the Mississippi Gaming and Hospitality Association. He joins us to explain the impact of the shutdown on the gaming industry, and what patrons can expect when they return. Segment 3:Few may remember Florence Mars, a white woman in Mississippi who picked up a camera to depict the Jim Crow era. It was the murder of three civil rights workers in Neshoba county, her county, that motivated her. A hundred of her photographs, most taken in the decade between 1954 and 1964 are included in the book: “Mississippi Witness: The Photographs of Florence Mars.” Co-editor, James Campbell tells us about his conversations with Mars who died in 2006. The 30 year-old Controller Area Network bus, better known as CAN, is often held up as a symbol of the auto industry's glacial pace of innovation. But, as Ken Tindell of Canis Automotive Labs explains, the electronic backbone of every modern car has persisted through decades of profound changes in electronics and networking for good reasons. What's more, Tindell has taught CAN a new trick that could maintain its viability for decades to come while securing it from the cybersecurity threats that were all but unimaginable when CAN was first invented.
Tindell Baldwin joins me for Episode 26. She wrote a memoir called Popular: Boys, Booze and Jesus. It's an honest read about her story of growing up in a christian home but walking away from God in high school in order to find love and acceptance. It's a story of redemption. Whether you are a young woman in college or a mother of a teenager or maybe a woman with a similar past, Tindell's story will resonate with you. I particularly enjoyed chatting about perfectionism, shame and fear.

Today's show is featuring John Rinehart, author of Gospel Patrons, as he speaks at the 2014 Generous Giving Conference. "JOHN RINEHART is a California-based writer and speaker with a degree in business from Biola University and a M.Div from Talbot School of Theology. In 2009 John and his wife set off on a 5-month trip around the world to become globally-minded Christians. Their adventure led to the unexpected discovery of the beautiful part businesspeople can play in advancing God’s kingdom. Since then the message of Gospel Patrons has spread to business and ministry leaders around the world, helping them become radically generous and personally involved in the work of God. John currently speaks at a variety of events, conferences, and churches each year about the greatness of God and the part we can all play in the Great Commission." Run Across Congo In May 2015, a 7-marathon, 7-day expedition along the shores of Lake Kivu in the eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo will raise awareness and funds for the inspiring female coffee farmers, farming families and cooperatives working toward gender equality in the region. An all-women team of runners will participate in the first ever Run Across Congo, supporting and celebrating the resurgence of the Kivu Region through empowering women in farming communities. Runners will traverse the Great Lakes region of Africa for 300km and include stops in farming communities with whom organizing partners, On The Ground and Twin, have existing relationships, including coffee cooperatives and local officials. Awareness and funds raised from Run Across Congo will have several long-term impacts, including gender equality and women’s empowerment programs, creating access to knowledge, land and income beyond coffee.
