Sometimes you meet someone online or in person and it changes the course of your life. Dayna Martin's book called “Radical Unschooling” was part of (co-host) Rythea Lee's parenting wake up call. She joined Dayna's support groups and coached with her during a time of deep distress and confusion. Dayna's loving and articulate allyship of her children and children everywhere helped Rythea turn towards non-coercion and collaboration with her daughter. What are the underpinnings of Dayna's approach and how does it fly in the face of everything we've been taught about teaching and raising children?Join us as Dayna shares more about what stepping out of our society norms did for her children and her family. She shares personal anecdotes on how she handles negative reactions and remains grounded in her values, providing listeners with insight into the resilience required to stand up for unconventional beliefs. Unschooling, for Dayna, is part of a broader social justice initiative. She talks about how giving children autonomy over their learning can challenge and help dismantle oppressive systems, including those that perpetuate racism, sexism, and homophobia. She believes that empowering children to think critically and empathetically from an early age can contribute to a more inclusive and compassionate society.Addressing common critiques—such as concerns that children who unschool aren't learning or that unschooling parents are neglectful—Dayna shares her responses. She explains that unschooling isn't about a lack of learning but about transforming how we approach education, highlighting the extensive skills and knowledge her children have gained outside traditional schooling. She gives listeners an inside look at her family's current dynamics and shares updates on what her children are passionate about, from creative projects to budding interests, illustrating how unschooling has allowed them to pursue what genuinely excites them.Join Cara, Rythea, and Dayna as they explore the powerful intersections of unschooling, freedom, and social change, challenging us to rethink our approaches to education and parenting.Connect with Dayna:https://www.facebook.com/DaynaMartinhttps://daynamartin.comhttps://radicalunschooling.com--It's important and essential to put our voices (Rythea and Cara) in a context. Welcome back to the IGNITE Your Dream Podcast! I am so excited to share today's conversation with you with innovator + disruptivator, Leah McDermott! Leah is a former Master Educator turned radical unschooling advocate, and mama of three boys. She is the owner of Your Natural Learner and Bridge Academy, where she provides resources and community for natural learning and homeschoolers around the world. After years spent in the public school classrooms, Leah recognized the disconnect between what we know to be true about how learning happens and what we were doing to our children in the system. In 2011, after having her first child, she made the decision to step away from the public learning system and began her work in encouraging and supporting homeschooling families to raise a new generation of confident and passionate lifelong learners, and today focuses on helping parents shift their mindset to trust that their children are capable of learning what they need when they need it. In today's episode we dive deep into what it means to "unschool," the challenges our children face within the current school system and what can happen when we trust our children's natural learning instincts over society's current models. I hope this conversation serves as an invation to expand + shift your perspective if you feel called to do so. I can't wait for you to listen! This week Tasha joins us on the show, a mother who fearlessly unleashed her kids from the formal education system to embrace the freedom of organic learning. Through personal coaching by Dayna Martin, the founder of Radical Unschooling, Tasha became an Unschooling Advocate, freeing her children and herself from the chains of institutionalized slavery. In this conversation we explore: Unschooling V's homeschooling Agendas of the system Challenging the narrative Simple ways to unchain from the schooling system and soooo much more! Today's episode is with Canadian unschooling advocate, Tasha Fishman: Coach / Mentor + Advocate and fearless Truth teller. Tasha describes herself as a regular mama who unleashed her kids from the formal education system to complete Freedom to learn organically. Tasha has three boys and has been unschooling her two youngest sons since waking up to the absurdity of public health and public school back in May 2020. She has studied and been coached personally by Dayna Martin, the founder of Radical Unschooling to become an “Unschooling Advocate” and free her children and herself from the bondage of institutionalized slavery. When she started, she had no idea that this path would radically transform the way that she parents, how she advocates for children's rights and how she views the world in general. Her pursuit for Freedom within our own country has led her to question and investigate every system that has raised us and ask the fundamental question: Who does this benefit? This episode will definitely be polarizing - but hear me out. I wanted to have this discussion because things are moving rapidly in Canada [and likely in other first world nations]. The curriculum, the system and the transfer of power from parent to institution is part of an agenda that is extremely blatant and brazen. In this interview I found myself scrambling for words in parts of this episode. Everything is a hot button topic and as it's designed, woke culture will label you as a homophobe, racist, misogynist and anti-everything. It's the cancel culture zone – but as I know it, these are the tough conversations that we need to be having. You definitely don't need to agree with what we talk about here - but how wonderful if you'd give it a listen. In my opinion: If we don't lean in to more of these conversations, as parents we'll be cast aside and our government will continue (yes, I said continue) to take on more ownership over our children. Sometimes you just don't know what you don't know and frankly, so much of what's happening in the classroom has nothing to do with well intentioned teachers and faculty. It goes way beyond that. So, here's me opening the door to a deeper awareness of things that are already happening in our Canadian education system and as Tasha says, “Don't take her word for it”. You can reach out to Tasha for resources. Question everything and be open to changing our perception of what's happening. I deeply appreciate Tasha's wise voice and her willingness to be one of the humans who goes first. A few highlights of today's episode: Tasha answers the question, “Is our education system failing our children?” + how Tasha's journey from homeschooling to unschooling mom + advocate. The difference between homeschooling and unschooling. What's going on in the school system that so many parents are unaware of. Why there have been so many shifts in the curriculum [especially in the last few years] and where that really comes from, historically. The roots and history of our ‘modern' compulsory education system. How teachers, principals and education assistants are typically well-intentioned pawns in the system. The separation of child from parent Tasha's recommendation to research everything she shares in this episode and in her work. The transgenderism movement in the school system. How to change this and advocate for what our children truly need. Tasha shares the globalist agenda and how schooling plays a part in it. I have studied and been coached personally by Dayna Martin, the founder of Radical Unschooling to become an “Unschooling Advocate” and free my children and myself from the bondage of institutionalized slavery. To sum it up: Unschooling is a philosophy and a lifestyle where you put the needs and interests of your children first before the needs of an institutionalized curriculum which adheres to a teacher, who answers to a principal, who reports to a Board, who complies to our government, who follows the WEF, who ultimately serve the elite ruling class families who control all of us! It's time to break that chain…We are not Free until we are All Free and that includes our children. I offer weekly group parenting coaching calls, private coaching sessions and I am happy to share my story through various mediums. Feel free to like my Instagram page for all parents (Unschoolers & Homeschoolers) alike to connect, share resources and create meetups. I know that we can create a great community for ourselves and our children outside of the school system.” SCHOOL DETOX KIT – IT'S FREE What will I learn? There is a peaceful alternative to Forced Learning. There is a way to live harmoniously with your children at home. You are more capable and competent than you think! Children can learn and thrive without curriculum and/or forced learning. Breaking down your own programming is the key to a successful transition. The 3 main dark agendas in Public schooling. How to handle an unsupportive spouse or family member. Radical shifts in perspective lead to radical shifts in lifestyle which has nothing to do with being privileged! Unschooling is a lifestyle stemming from a peaceful parenting paradigm. We are breaking free from an authoritative paradigm and into a partnership paradigm with our children. In this episode we meet Ross L, Ross is a powerlifting coach, life coach, podcaster, content creator, father, partner, and aspiring public speaker to name a few things. After having lived a life of limits and circumstances, Ross now seeks life-expanding challenges on a regular base. Especially challenges that allow him to connect with and support others in their journeys to break free from self-limiting beliefs. If we can pause for a moment to recognize the learning opportunities in all of life's events, we can move forward empowered to create the experiences we most desire. Cultivating an internal sense of belonging to move forward with. The journey of life is full of great joy when one has a sense of belonging! We revisit his experiences in school, where he was the target of bullying. He internalized the statements that others made about him as his self-talk for most of his life. The phrase we tell young children “Stick and Stones may break your bones, but names will never hurt you,” was something he heard, but instead of helping it invalidated his experiences and what was going on for him because it did hurt. The impact was in many areas of his life including relationships, at 28 he realized the patterns and started therapy and working on himself to have a better relationship with himself. Our peers really impact our self-talk but how do we challenge that self-talk? At the young ages of elementary school, we should be focusing more on identity and validating who each individual person is, and teaching compassion and kindness. We talk a little about school and Dana Martin's book, Radical Unschooling, and the idea of connection over correction which removes that authoritarian paradigm and puts us all on the same level playing field. In the classroom, teachers are afraid to accept responsibility or apologize. Ross noted that in the classes where the teacher allowed flexibility, there was more connection and collaboration. We discussed how many of our responses come from a place of our own experiences and hurt. I asked Ross to give some advice to teachers about bullying. He believes the foundation answer to that question of why our kids continue to get bullied is because, as adults, we set the example and we continue to bully. All behaviors are learned. We teach them how to behave by how we lead. He reminds us there's no such thing as a bad kid or a misbehaved kid, only a kid who's lacking belonging and significance. Paying attention to behavior and understanding that the kid is trying to express something through this behavior. He also says we should see the bullies, see the bad behavior, and see them for the actions and the communication that they are trying to share with us. In this episode, Robin Stebbins interviews Tasha Fishman, one of the best voices out there on unschooling our children and how to get started, even if the are currently attending school. In my interview we discuss how to truly educate our children, while giving them autonomy, freedom and respect as a way of bringing shalom in the home or a feeling of peace and serenity. Tasha is just a regular mama who unleashed her kids from the formal education system to learn organically. Another Mad Question Askin’ episode! Episode 189 addresses this question from our Make-it-Happen family:“Hi Akilah and community! Episode 182 with Genesis Ripley (Partnering with Our Pain) was so amazing! I need to listen again so I can absorb all the thought provoking things you both brought up. Akilah, you and Genesis mentioned Colonized Unschooling. I had this idea that if you do Unschooling with your family, especially Radical Unschooling you are automatically on the path to Decolonization. I definitely don’t want to do Colonized Unschooling! What does that mean? I think you and Genesis said something about how Colonized Unschooling is letting your kids do whatever they want and then supporting them. And this is related to the Colonial idea that white people think they own the world and can rape and pillage and dominate without caring how they are harming and impacting the community. So is Colonized Unschooling basically narcissism? What does Decolonized Unschooling look like? We give our kids a lot of freedom and support them in doing pretty much anything they want as long as they aren’t harming themselves, other people or the environment.”Moji Yai and Kris Richards share their responses as unschooling parents and social justice oriented people. Moji, who we've heard on Episode 168: Resistance + Returning, Episode 62: Deschooling Through Deciding is an unschooling mother and entrepreneur from Benin, West Africa. She recently moved back to Benin after spending much of her youth and adulthood in the U.S. South, and offers women and families space to study, an environment to explore, and a community to gather with, learn, play, and expand knowledge. See Moji’s invitations online at Wise African Woman (WAW). Kris has chatted with us on episodes 186 and 187 on the topic of community and capitalism, if you haven't heard don’t miss them! We’ve also heard Kris talk this season about Deschooling Corporate and Community Relationships and about the Ways Capitalism Invites Indoctrination.WHAT WE DISCUSS:Moji and Kris chat about their perspectives on decolonization and privilege as they relate to unschooling. Moji talks about privilege as ignorance, pointing out the importance of paying attention to pervasive whiteness and how disruptive it is to acknowledge, unlearn and shift away from it, by recognizing it and questioning how the things that gave you that sense of privilege are the things you need to let go of, so that your “privilege” becomes a useful tool for change.Kris sees privilege as something that the system sets and that we need to be aware of, but also take action upon, starting with introspection. Decolonization is not automatic, it’s intentional mindful work, therefore unschooling could not be “automatic anything-liberation-centered; it must be actionized and acknowledged, and practiced. They also talk about the connection between scholishness and narcissism. Moji sees schooling as a haven for turning parenting into narcissists, and gives us examples about how this shows up. Decolonized unschooling is not only about the children, it is about the parents too.Check the full show notes page here.Support the show (https://www.patreon.com/akilah)

[Guest: Dayna Martin] Join Dr. Edith and Dayna Martin, the world-renowned pioneer of Radical Unschooling (also known as Peaceful Parenting) as we explore the history of education, new perspectives on children's rights, and the new Partnership-Based Paradigm with our children. “You know when you hear truth.” ~ Dayna. ~~~~~~~~~ Topics explored: * Backstory - how Dayna came to live this life of Unschooling and Radical Unschooling * Listening to your inner guidance and inner truth. Healing from the need to seek approval from outside “experts”. * How to be an effective bringer of change. * Going past judgement, embracing one another via kindness, peace, and love * As an empath - shifting the energies. Vs. letting “default energy” happen * Definition of “Unschooling” - learning outside of the paradigm of school. * “We've been conditioned to see only certain things of value.” * Study John Holt's work - forced learning is not true learning, it's training in obedience. * Learning is supposed to feel good! When kids say “I hate learning” - they don't - they hate “forced learning.” * The Prussian model of school - intention to make good factory workers. * History of mandatory schooling - in late 1800s, Boston massachusetts - 85% of parents unwilling to put kids in school, but were forced at gun-point. * How teaching kids all the same things can lead to dumbing kids down. Undermining connection between parent and child - up until now. Now everything is changing. * Definition of “Radical Unschooling” - extending this into every aspect of life. * All humans are born into this world deciding freedom. When we are controlling, it warps the relationship with things that are being controlled and limited. * Our desire for freedom comes before finding moderation and balance. * How to manage “Screen time” - how to find balance through freedom. * Kids want to make healthy good choices. When you're not controlling kids, they tap into the understanding that you want what's best for them. * Why the term “screen time” is disrespectful to kids. * Kids see all their interests and passions as an extension of themselves. * When you're afraid of something, you want control. * Books, magazines, mentorships, technology, museums, etc. are all equally valued. * Parenting is supposed to feel good. Controlling kids all day is not pleasant. It's hellish. * How do children not group up to be “spoiled brats?” * What is a “spoiled” kids - are not from a partnership-based paradigm. * Balancing raising children, unschooling, and our dreams, projects, careers, etc. Mantra - “Everything I want to do, will get done.” * Control is the biggest time suck and energy suck. * “Parents - you know when you hear truth.” ~ Dayna. * The rights and respect of children - the evolution of consciousness. * Story of bullying, power struggles. * When we model peace in home, kids will model world-peace in everything they do. * What are Dayna's kids up to these days? * “Happiness leads to success.” Vs. “you'll be happy when you're successful.” * What is Dayna's #1 most important advice for stepping into our highest human potential? ~~~ Connect w Dayna - http://www.DaynaMartin.com Connect with Dr. Edith - www.SuperWellness.com / www.DrEdithUbuntu.com Pick up your copy of SuperWellness on Amazon.com Join us for the upcoming Six Week SuperWellness class - starting July 14! http://www.SuperWellness.com/6WEEK ~~~

This week, we are joined by one of the biggest influences on our parenting and educational philosophies. We have stolen so much from this person, and we have recommended her to everyone for the last 7-8 years. She started this little facebook page about a decade ago (which has over 59k followers btw) and this was where we first started to get a peek into the life of a homeschooling family through conversations she would post, educational resources and her no holds barred, authentic nature. She has also had an amazing health transformation, so we are excited for her to share how nutrition played a role in her raising two amazing boys. Words cannot describe what this person means to us. I remember clearly going to elementary school and not liking it, even though I was super-interested in all the subjects we were being taught. As I progressed through the "educational" system, through high school, college and graduate school, I found out that the conflict between learning and being in school just got worse. In the last stages of the system, doctors memorize things like vaccines are safe and effective and drugs can make you healthy, and they think they "know" that. PhD graduates memorize things like government and experts have to make all the major decisions in people's lives, because the general public is not capable of living their own lives or really having freedom, and these "experts" also think they know that. So the end goal, a totally controlled society, justifies the means, which is tyranny. The kind of educational system that produces this kind of attitude turns out specialized experts that have lost their ability to see the context and implications of what they are thinking and doing. They are perfectly suited to take their place in society, in a good-paying job with lots of prestige, not understanding the damage they are doing, helping to destroy the world. There are some people who think beyond this suicidal paradigm of fake education which is really just programmed brainwashing. One of those visionary leaders is Dayna Martin. Dayna was on Lost Arts Radio in 2015, and has done a lot of important work since that time. Maybe you are just now hearing about "unschooling" for the first time, and are curious to know what it is, and if it could really help your kids and you. This is your chance to learn from one of the best sources on the planet, and Dayna will be here to share what she has learned as the pioneer in this field. The reality of unschooling is exciting and capable of producing major change in the world.

Ep. 10 | Dayna Martin: Peaceful Parenting & Radical Unschooling We were fortunate enough to get an interview with Dayna Martin at Anarchapulco in Acapulco, Mexico in 2018. We talked about peaceful parenting, radical unschooling, and more. Here are some of the highlights: Peaceful parenting starts at birth. Natural, home birth vs hospital birth Hospitals are businesses C-sections are much more common in hospitals There are downsides to C-sections, including the baby missing out on special probiotics in the birth canal Doulas and midwifes know what signs to look for to know when it's necessary to go to the hospital Many doctors and nurses are only trained in natural birth for about 15 minutes. When a baby is unmedicated, it helps itself be born. When your kids have an interest, surround them with resources to pursue their interests. Support your child in whatever they want to become Let your children become what they're meant to be The key to peaceful parenting is: not controlling them Resources Mentioned Radical Unschooling by Dayna Martin The Whole Brain Child by Daniel J. This week, I'm discussing radical unschooling. Do you unschool but don't like the sound of radically unschooling? Maybe you're convinced you'll never do it? If so, I hope to change your mind! I'm pondering lots of questions including: How did we end up becoming radical unschoolers (when I said we'd never do this)? Are radical unschooling parents irresponsible? Or are the critics wrong? How will our kids learn to do the things that are necessary and right if we don't make any rules? Can anyone radically unschool? Or is radical unschooling associated with only a particular lifestyle? Can Catholics unschool? How do we protect, care for and share our beliefs with our radically unschooled children? Is it possible to let kids make their own choices and, at the same time, be confident that they will make the right choices? What could happen if we force our kids to live by our rules? Is it really okay if kids don't wash their hair and clean their teeth? What is at the heart of a radical unschooling way of life? Laura Bowman, Director of ETUSC, East Tennessee Unschooling Summer Camp, and Radical Unschooling mom, shares her family approach to Reading and Math.Laura Bowman is a radical unschooling mom of 3 amazing kids, an artist, and music lover. She is the Director of ETUSC (East Tennessee Unschooled Summer Camp), a 7 night secular camp for approximately 80 unschooling teens (13-18) from all over the country. She is also the Coordinator of ARGH (Autodidactic Radical Gathering of Homeschoolers), a bi-annual casual gathering for unschooling families. You can find her during the warm months on her porch making art, going for morning walks with the family dog while listening to music or audiobooks, and trying to get to the lake or river whenever possible; during the cold months she’ll be wrapped in a blanket watching Netflix, trying not to leave the house, and making art in her studio. She enjoys talking about vegan nutrition, family, art, and music...as well as the conundrum of being a social introvert with anxiety who organizes big social events.

This week, I discuss these questions: Is radical unschooling about allowing kids to do whatever they like? But if we stand back and give our kids that kind of freedom, will life become chaotic and unproductive? Could radical unschooling require an active rather than a passive response from parents? And how did our family become radical unschoolers? I also share some family news, some local history, and a few resources. You can find the show notes on my blog Stories of an Unschooling Family. Dayna Martin talks about Radical Unschooling and Michael Murphy: Look Up, Stop Geoengineering In the first part of our show this Saturday, we get the special treat of an in-depth discussion with internationally known natural childbirth and radical unschooling advocate Dayna Martin (www.daynamartin.com), who says that there is a better way to raise our children instead of subjecting them to the government indoctrination centers known as public schools. Even most private schools impose a curriculum on children that may not ideally facilitate their innate desire to learn in their own unique way and according to their own natural timetables. We have been programmed over generations that children will not learn and develop themselves fully unless we micromanage the process. Dayna has demonstrated this theory is incorrect, and the opposite is often true. Shifting gears for the second part of the show, we are pleased to have an opportunity to talk with Michael Murphy (www.whyintheworldaretheyspraying.com), creator of the documentaries on geoengineering, "What In The World Are They Spraying," and its sequel "Why In The World Are They Spraying," that have been seen by millions around the world. Most of the world's population is yet unaware of the full importance of the ongoing spraying and damage being caused by the global geoengineering programs now in progress, but more people are waking up to this worldwide assault on humanity with every passing day. In fact, not only humanity but the entire biosphere is in danger of annihilation as the geoengineering project that has been publicly denied for so many years continues to poison our air, water and soil, threatening to make the continuation of life for all species on Earth impossible if not reversed very soon.

Klein http://www.independent.org/publications/tir/article.asp?a=536 ; http://www.independent.org/pdf/tir/tir_10_1_1_klein.pdf "Why do some people never support a free-market proposal, even when they think it would work better than government intervention? For many, the reason is that collective political action offers the romantic notion that 'we’re all working together,' while market mechanisms seem to them less lofty because they rely on the self-interest of individuals acting privately." (D.K.) TPR (the people's romance) encourages governmental intervention for its own sake Pundits constantly conflate Americans with government, i.e., the people in government who rule over them Fearing, revering, and worshipping power and the process of indoctrinating a public that kowtows to "authority"--main aspects of TPR Encompassing sentiment coordination of the WHOLE group, whether you like it or not, is the nature of TPR In actuality, there are no "citizens" and there is no "State"--both are arbitrary collectivistic and legal abstractions that lead to coercive control of rights-respecting people and distortion and destruction of entire economies Without imposing a communized infrastructure, government would lose all perceived legitimacy The in-group and out-group dynamic is also part of TPR--the out-group must be either shunned or subdued Libertarian aphorism: The are two types of people--those who want to be left alone and those who won't leave them alone Most slaves don't like seeing other slaves trying to break free of their shackles--so they attack them and keep all enslaved TPR lives off coercion The conceptual common denominator between fanciful Objectivist government and actual government is the coercive monopolization of its "services" Feelings are tools of evaluation, not tools of cognition; people can have "joyous" feelings based on a whole host of contradictions--though they betray their true selves, their authentic selves The three types of libertarians: classical liberals; laissez-faire capitalists (or minarchists); anarcho-capitalists, or market anarchists, or voluntarists (or agorists) TPR lies at the heart of communism The differences between working for a communist boss and a capitalist boss are immense, although oftentimes diminished in a mixed economy like today's Statists are afflicted with slavespeak (http://www.buildfreedom.com/tl/tl07a.htm) and the Stockholm Syndrome (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stockholm_syndrome) The fatuous superstition of "the consent of the governed" leads to "being greater than kings and less than men" (de Toqueville) Taxation is an extortion racket to no end Lysander Spooner's 1840's attempt at competing with monopoly gang of the USPS http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lysander_Spooner#Early_years_and_the_postal_monopoly Statists' version of a "civilized society" is one in which rights-respecting people are forced to do things against their wills--oh so civilized, isn't it!
